Qwest HTC mogul to Sprint Switch - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I have been working on changing from a very poor provider to a better one and want to use my very expensive Mogul on the sprint network. I have been wondering around the web for infomation but most of the steps unclear. Do i need to unlock the phone and flash the sprint rom, relock the phone and get sprint to accept the new esn? I think that is what has been said but not sure.
can anyone help?

Sprint -> Alltel Possibilities ??

I currently have a Sprint Vogue HTC Touch MPC6900SP phone. I am thinking of switching carriers to Alltel. I know that both Sprint and Alltel use CDMA. I was wondering if it is at all possible to use cokeman's unlocker 2.31 and flash a custom ROM, and then run the specific carrier cab file for Alltel and end up with a phone that works on the Alltel system (of course I would need to provide the phone codes to Alltel when I sign up with their service). Is this a totally lame thought and improbable to do?
maybe
i would think the only thing that u have to do is flash it with nsfan custom rom for alltel if he has one or find one on here and call alltel up and tell them you wanna use your phone on their network and give them the esn and they will let you know if they will allow that esn or not
Im with alltel, and i have done that with a sprint vogue, and i am currently using a sprint touch pro with alltel. You have to do research on how to do it, and it'll constantly say you are roaming unless you get an alltel pri. It's fairly complicated on the first try, but it becomes a little easer. Long answer short, yes it is possible, and many people have done it

Cricket Questions

Hi all..
I have found and read the instructions as it relates to flashign a phone to cricket... I am an old GSM guy here, not too familiar with CDMA things... But Cricket is runnign a special this weekend where it is only $25 a month for unlimited talk & txt.. I think this would be great for my son as a cheap cell phone.. Here are my questions:
Would Cricket need to know that I flashed a phone from another carrier?
Do I need ot buy one of their phones in the first place?
Anyone who has done this in the past, I would value your input.... I am just a little lost here on this.. thanks
In CDMA technologies, the user account gets compared to the ESN of the phone that you are trying to use. Lets say that you programmed your phone (MIN, MDN, flashed PRL, etc). The tower will see all the settings from your account and it will look at the ESN as well, if all this information matches to what they have on the records, you will have no problem in using this phone with Cricket.
Why am I saying this? Because, you will have to let them know about the ESN of your new device. They need to add it to their database and under your account as well for you to be able to use it. I know that MetroPCS charges you ~$50 to do this, I am not certain about Cricket though. You may want to call them up and ask if you can have your Vogue flashed over to their system. I have read countless threads of people having flashed their Vogues to Cricket, so I guess it is possible.
Good luck!
Thanks for the reply...
Here is the issue (or question).. I live in a new "triband only" cricket market (Chicago/Milwaukee area).. I have read that, to work, the phone needs to use the 1700AWS frequency... I know in the "old" cricket areas you don;t need this... Will the Vogue work here? Sorry for all the questions.. I just don;t want to buy the phone and then not be able to use it...
According to the specs, the Vogue is only dual band (800 and 1900 MHz). You can see them here. If that is the case, then you might not be able to use it. Just check with them to be on the safe side. You can also look for people on the Cricket network on other forums and see if someone is using this device in the Chicago area. Good luck!
not sure about your city/are specifically but in Austin TX i was able to take a HTC Vogue (Sprint Touch) and fully flash it over. Phone, SMS, MMS, Data, Tethering, and I even found a guide for GPS (have not tried yet).
All works fine. They only issue I really have is that the DATA seems kinda crap at times. It says its at full EVDO/3G but sometimes i have to perform a manual disconnect/reconnect to jumpstart data again.
When I flash to a "non cricket" rom though I lose Tethering ability. Trying to find a guide on the settings myself so I can go back to NSFans 6.5 ROM.
Sorry for the bad news. Unfortunately there are no HTC phones available at this time that you can flash and have work in the Chicago area. That area is a AWS 1700 MHZ market and there are no CDMA HTC devices that support that technology. I would recommend that you purchase a cricket branded phone. If you are looking for a Windows phone take a look at Metro's line up. They have a Samsung that is tri band and WM powered. Also crickets new phone that is PDA like will be out tomorrow at cricKet Corp stores.

Need Help Getting Sprint Network on Verizon Note 2

Okay, I'm sure the information is all out there, so before I get told to search forums or google, I have. My issue is that I'm just having the hardest time putting all the scattered information together and understanding it. There's too much information to decipher whats needed, accurate andd up to date for my situation. So I was wondering if someone whose done this before could just give me the straight to guide.
I have verizon, my girlfriend has sprint. She broke her S4. I have an old verizon note 2 that is unlocked, rooted, custom recovery and on CM11.
What I need to do is get it on the sprint network and get her service switched over to it.
I know it has something to do with APN settings, but there's so many different ones whether it's for internet and MMS. I basically just want her to be able to use it to make phone calls and maybe regular texts. I got all confused when I saw things dealing with PRL and what not, so I don't actually know which things I need to make this work.
I put the sim card from her S4 into my Verizon note 2 and opened the access point settings under mobile network. There are a bunch of sprint ones in there now, I don't know which one to choose. I tried the one just labeled "Sprint" and then rebooted to get the APN settings to switch over but I still have no service to try and activate the phone.
So could someone please give me a simplified walk-through of putting in sprint's settings on a verizon note 2. I tried flashing a Sprint CM11 rom but it failed. So now i am going to try flashing a sprint touchwiz rom to see if that will make all the necessary changes for me.
Update: I Just finished flashing jellybomb touchwiz rom, it flashed but wont get into the phone setup, says there's an encryption error and the phone needs to be reset. I did that and it still does the same.
Thanks in advance guys, I've flashed a lot of roms, I've just never switched my phone to another carrier before.
You can't activate a non Sprint branded phone on the Sprint network. Period. The esn is not in the Sprint database and even if you wanted to use the phone strictly for traveling internationally, The sim card from Sprint will not work in the Verizon phone for the same reason. You'd have to "clone" the phone/esn and that is completely illegal. I would spend my time on craigslist or Facebook and try to trade your Verizon phone for a Sprint one. That's what I would do.
FYI . Verizon phones are actually in demand due to the much larger customer base so making a trade for a Sprint S4 or Note 2 should be fairly easy. But MAKE SURE you check the ESN with Sprint before making a trade because a blacklisted esn phone can NOT be activated and you will be SOL.
So only networks like at&t and T-mobile will work on my Unlocked verizon phone?

If you're referring to your Verizon phone being a "world phone" which does in fact have a sim card and gsm network capabilities, then technically yes it would perhaps be possible to get it to work on AT&T or T-Mobile onl;y but it would be very difficult and time consuming to unlock the sim portion of the Verizon phone and hack it so that it would not be rejected by either network due to the ESN. You'd have better luck trying T-Mobile because they seem to be more lax with unbranded iPhones etc on their network. But in all honesty you would be better off trading your Verizon phone especially if it has a clear esn and getting a phone that's ready to go with no headaches and fully functional on the network.
thanks for the replies

[Q] Porting rooted Sprint G2 to Verizon

First, my apologies if this subject is already covered. I couldn't find anyone with a similar situation.
I have a Sprint G2 that I rooted and it is running CMod 11. I want to switch it to Verizon. I tried taking the phone to the Verizon store and they could not activate it for Verizon. I assume the phone is unlocked however because it activated just fine for Sprint and the Sprint guy told me that's an indication of being unlocked. True? Not sure.
The Verizon guys told me that I need to hack the radio frequencies of the phone before it would work with Verizon. I don't know where the settings are for this though. I already tried the trick of deleting 'Spr' out of a certain system file and I effectively bricked the phone. That didnt work and luckily I was able to revert to the stock rom.
My question is this: Can I get the phone to work with Verizon simply by flashing Verizon CMod to it? Or is it easy to find the settings for the radio frequencies that I need to change? Do I get any data once all is said and done? I don't look forward to unrooting and restoring the stock ROM JUST to hear Sprint say "Oh well we don't want to unlock it for you."

The G2 is only compatible with Verizon's 3G network. I doubt our radios work on the Verizon variant for LTE. Also, the IMEI would need to be whitelisted on Verizon's database. There's no other way around it. Better off selling the LS980 and buying a VS980 for Verizon.

1) no because the IMEI isn't in verizon's database / white listed
2) hardware for the radio is different then verizon's and you will be unable to get lte at all from it.
3) I would just restore to 100% stock (tot) and then sell it and then buy the Verizon version
i have inverse issue
well i bought a verizon variant, only because it was the only one with next day air delivery... I didnt do any research other than seeing that they had the same model number of 980 i figured a radio change and maybe rom change. i tried flashing a sprint rom on it it wont finish the install. do i need to get a sprint sim?
i might be interested in trading that sprint g2 for my verizon g2

[Q] Note 2 from Sprint to Verizon, basic questions

I got a galaxy note 2 with Sprint on it, and plan to switch over to Verizon wireless (I use one of those 3rd party companies that use Verizon lines) and I heard they don't like unlocked phones. I have a few basic questions, please note my phone doesn't have a SIM card. I like Sprint, but their coverage is more city based, and the problem there is I don't live in a city, and big red has got us covered under 4G LTE.
Will I be able to pick up a Verizon LTE service, I remember there was some sort of error with my older S3 and it roamed on a Verizon 4G network, i'd assume my Sprint note 2 can do the same, and is capable of picking up that signal.
Also, will the company be able to know I have an unlocked phone? Or will it assign me a new MEID with Verizon when I select that option, (Yes I know how to unlock, real simple process) And when I go to type in the MEID/ESN for activation, will it recognize it is on an unlocked phone, if so how do I fix that without doing anything illegal (Like changing the MEID, which is very complex, and illegal)
And will I be able to keep my current MEID I have on Sprint, if I select Sprint under the network options.
If you are confused on my wording, i'll be glad to help you out. Also if you know anything about the HTC One M7, will I be able to switch that over too, and would I also need a Verizon SIM.
Thanks for the help, I am not an expert so try not to be too complex, I also perfer to avoid CDMA tool if possible, I dread that software at times.
If there's also a way if 4G won't work to trick it into thinking I have a 3G only devise under Verizon that would be cool too. I don't expect this to even be possible without a dreadful process.
Bump, not sure if you are supposed to do this.
