XV6900 is frozen at splash screen after changing default SIP. Please help! - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

I was changing the default sip in the registry from the standard keyboard to PCMkeyboard and after a soft reset my phone is stuck at the Verizon splash screen. I can’t for the life of me see how that would have kept it from booting.
I changed HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip\DefaultIM from {42429667-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9} to {BB25F2EB-688C-4698-ADFC-F422A148AD4F}
I am running the new leaked Verizon WM 6.1 with customizations. I've given it a few soft resets to no avail as well as pulling the battery. How can I get this thing to boot up so I can at least switch the SIP back?

Well I didn't see anyone leaping on this one so I went ahead and hard reset. I'm still curious to know if I could have worked around this some other way and why that particular regedit would have had that effect. Has anyone else set PCMkeyboard as their default in the registry? Did I have the right CLSID?

Just use SIPChange instead, I think that's the name anyways, it will save the future headaches.

Thanks for the advice. I found sipchange in another thread that did caution that an invalid CLSID woudl cause exactly what happened to me and require a hard reset to recover. At least I've learned something new.

Anyone figured out how to stop animation on 8525 with new wm6?

I have modified/removed the startupanimation settings in the registry multiple times, but every time I reboot the phone, that horrible animation is back and so are the registry entries. Has anyone figured out a way to disable the animation in wm6? Apparently, someone at AT&T decided they didn't like us turning that off.

The startup animation uses the following files (if you've got the stock AT&T startup):
StartupAnimationEngine.dll
3G Up_01_1.gif
3G_Up.wav
And the following registry settings:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\3G Up_01_1.gif"
"WAVFile"="\\Windows\\3G_Up.wav"
"Enabled"=dword:1
"Volumn"=dword:0000022
You should be able to change "Enabled" to 0 and turn if off.
Thanks, worked like a charm.
Thanks for the quick reply, but as you can see from my initial post, I have already tried changing the registry settings. It's not working. I make the change, reset the phone, the animation still plays and when I go back into the registry, the changes aren't there anymore.

Can i put my own vids in place of the [email protected] stuff? Just asking
Looks like it would be pretty easy to replace that GIF and WAV file with ones of your own.
edit:
Bah, tried replacing the WAV with one of my own and ended up with the animation but no sound. Oh well, its disabled now.

First post- total newbie- but I was just reading through
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_FAQs
and came across the following which may be of help:
I've edited some things in the registry, however, after softreset, all changes have been lost.
A: After you have edited the registry, turn off your device, wait 10-15 seconds, then (while it is still off), press the soft reset button. In this way, your changes will be saved.
Looks like something was wrong with my phone. Maybe because I cancelled the at&t setup. I did a clear memory and let the at&t customizations run and set the reg key again and this time it took. I'll have to look further into what was causing this. Thanks.

No, ur probably just using the bottom botton to reset arent you? That will not save any settings. You have to use the power button. 15 sec isnt needed, jsut turn it back on immediately.
Sorry I left that part out - it's easy to forget and assume it's well known...
For some reason, the registry hive doesn't get saved immedietly following a change with a registry editor. The only way I know for sure is to hold the power button to power off, then back on (not time dependent). There may be some other way to get the registry to store changes, but the proper power cycle (NOT WITH THE SOFT-RESET!) is a sure-fire way.
That's weird. I have never had that problem before. Oh well, that's good information to have. At least i have everything working now. I reset again and cancelled the customizations and then modified the preconfig.txt file and the xml files to install a modified version of the at&t customizations and all is well. I have all the correct network settings minus that annoying proxy setting on the web and all that music and tv bloat.
Thats a great tip and it worked like a charm thanks for posting the info.

Buttons Problem on Original HTC WM6

Yeah, yeah, i know, have a lot of it on the forum, but, until now, i didn't find any real answer about it.
Sometimes i read that isn't hardware problem, sometimes i read that is.
Sometimes i read that need to change some keys on registry, but what keys?
The problem is the same of other users: the green and red key, videocall, Windows, Ok, "the left and right software buttons", the IE and Message buttons doesn't work. And the diretional buttons, the first time i press when i turn on the Hermes open the browser.
I don't know what to do anymore. That phone already stayed at the HTC Support for 3 months, and came back with the same problem. BTW, the HTC Support is a @#&¨%$$!!!!!
OK, atleast try a different ROM first, ie schaps or pandora naked???
IF it works on the newer ROMs then theres your answer.
Is the device a Tytn, Vario II, 8525 etc..?? ie let us know which brand it is.
I've tried a lot of ROM's, but not the newer ones. I'll try today. I'll try Pandora Naked and Schaps, in this order, and will post the results.
My device is a TyTN.
Tried the both ROM's (Schap's and Pandora) and still have problems with the buttons.
Hardware issue, suggest a 3rd party repair facility??
mrvanx, i've read something about the registry. Changing some keys in the registry i can solve this problem? Is there anyway to be something like that? I think, in a hard reset or a ROM change, the registry goes to the original situation. Therefore, if was a registry problem it'll be solve doing that HR. Am i right?
Like i said, it already stayed on the HTC Support for almost 3 months and they do NOTHING about it.
Anyway, thanx Mrvanx, i think that will be the solution.
Sounds like you're out of luck. I'm using an AT&T 8525 with WM6 and excluding the d-pad, all of the front buttons do not respond. The bug appears to be in the software since I, along with many of the other with this trouble, have attempted the hard reset are able to do so successfully (which requires holding down both of the soft menu buttons under the screen). I have also tried the hardware solution posted by another user and it was not successful with my device. Thanks for the remarks regarding HTC. I'll avoid sending my device to them.
Scg033, good luck. I'm trying to take my friend's TyTN and checking the registry. The seller insists that my problem is not a hardware problem. This is my last chance to try something. I'll try today and will post the results, anyway.
Well, i've tried to look into another TyTN's registry and made mine exacly like that one and... Nothing Happens. Still having problems. I think it's not a software problem.

Problem with TF3D

Hi all,
First I have to say that I'm over the moon with my new TP2!!
I absolutely love it
Today I started customizing it, and I've got one problem.
No matter what task bar I'm installing, after soft reset TF3D won't start.
It just shows HTC, and nothing happens.
At this moment I have the stock Dutch rom that ships with the TP2.
I installed sdkcerts.
Anyone experiencing the same thing??
H.
sorry wrong thread
TF3D
Hi there,
I've had the same issue with my UK spec, a reboot often cures it but it is a bit lame when the software wont even start up.
So far this has only happened to me about 3 times but I have been playing with it immensly and have rebooted it about 20 times already whilst cocking up some Shat Nav software.
Still loving it in general though ;-)
I'm having the same problem, rebooting doesn't solve anything.
A hard reset does, but than I have to reinstall everyting.
Manually starting manila.exe is an option, unfortunately than the time isn't updated.
Anybody has a sollution for this?
My solution was:
1. Go to: Start > Settings > first tab and click on Today > Go to Items Tab.
2. Uncheck TouchFLO 3d and click OK.
3. Do step 1 and 2 agian but then Check TouchFLO 3D.
4. Soft reset.
Done
tried that but it didn't work for me.
Just removed TomTom 7 & SPB Backup and now it seems to start up fine....
That's a bit of a shame, because TomTom and backup are very helpfull apps...
ive had similar issues but only when trying to customise manila theme. kept saying launching touchflo but nothing happens and then reverts to saying tap here to launch manila. if any of the programs you are adding or any of the customisations you are making involve messing with manila then you will have issues! once hard spl is out then all these things wont be an issue any more.
same problem here, don't try to change startmenu things (standaard startmenu/small startmenu, extra rows etc).
If I enable the extra program tab the buttons won't work most of the time.
The stability of the TP2 is not so good yet, hope that there will be a fix or update for it or a very good custom rom from a good chef.
me 2
I have experienced it twice. I got TF running again by unchecking TF3d in the items screen of the today settings, shutting the TP2 down by pressing the on/of switch some seconds, then restarting ,rechecking TF3D and shutting down once more. This has the same effect as a soft reset, only the system is disconnected longer. So perhaps taking the battery out works as well.
I think this problem is there because TF3D is so much integrated in WM 6.1. So the chance of apps interfering with it is pretty big. I hope with WM 6.5, they remove the big menus's (since they are there already in WM 6.5) and other stuff. Just to get more memmory back, and to make TF3D more compatible with other apps. (still waiting for my TP2)
Error no longer happens
Hi Guys,
I found out that mine was being affected by an old copy of IGO 8 that I was trying to install, since I've upgraded to the new version the TF3D issue has completely vanished.
I noticed that when the TF3D failed it was after a period of low memory or high CPU useage, perhaps using some software that isnt compatible with the TP2 is causing TF3D to screw up.
it's just a theory at the mo... can anyone else share their experiences?
Guys,
this is the third thread about this subject. I have the same problem. HTC is not aware about this problem and encourages those who HAVE these issues to call them. Calling is free...
please do so in order to get rid if this massive bug!
I have been doing some investigation of my own on this one.
I have SPB Backup installed which reboots my phone every night and found that TF3D would not start. Even after a few reboots it would not start. Removed it tried again still an issue.
Hard reset and still was getting some issues.
After alot of rebooting etc I found that if you have a pin enabled on your SIM card TF3D has issues on startup.
No PIN and all is fine.
With that in mind I have just left the phone lock on for now until a fix is found for the bug by HTC
hi, please contact HTC with your findings. if they dont know, they cant fix. calling is free.
thought i disabled my PIN and the problem still persists. although i had a "loading..." once. but it didnt load...
I have contacted HTC about this. I am awaiting a reply from them about the issue.
I had the same problem when installing the .cab to remove the bottom curtain. Soft resets, unchecking and checking TouchFlo3D didn't work. I then reinstalled the .cab and the TouchFlo3D also came back.
Perhaps that will work for you too? Try reinstalling the last program after the problems has occured?
I have the same problem, and i did notice that after uninstalling an application it usually works again. The strange this is that it looks like it is not a specific application that I need to uninstall. It could be a cab for a different clock or tab icons or an g-sensor app, or probably any other app.
Strange .....
Hmz, I soft resetted my TP2 and found out that the TF3D again didn't start. Had to re-install the "Bottom Curtain Remover.cab", soft reset and then it started again.
Looks like ahlung has a point in saying that it doesn't look like it's a specific application that needs to be uninstalled / reinstalled.
It can also be affected by file read errors, including files on the SD Card, if you have corrupt files on the SD Card, this can cause TF to not launch and even lock the device.
Cheers,
Beasty
Same problem here!
I also contacted HTC and told them the issue. They suggested me to do a hard reset! If I couldn't think to do it by myself!

TP2 wm6.5 Sense 2.1 disappeared. Solved for me.

I just wanted to post here in case this might help someone in the future, especially as I see people hard-resetting to fix it. I had just finished tweaking my TMobile TP2 replacement, came with wm6.5, and I think Sense 2.1 (any idea how I can check the version?). I had installed lots of apps, lots of registry tweaks, and all appeared fine.
Then I messed with weather tab, adding a new location and making updates automatic. I think that's when the problems started. I went to re-order the locations and only one was there, not the 5 I had entered! I tried a few things, then decided to do a soft reboot. When it came back up, it had HTC in the middle of the screen, just slowly flashing away for a long time, then finally telling me to "tap here to launch". It then just flashed away for a while longer and then the same message. I tried turning off "HTC Sense" in settings/today/items, turning on default Windows. That turned on Windows, but trying to turn back on Sense didn't work, as before. Soft resets did nothing to help.
I started to look at the registry and found two things turned off, which seemed odd in both cases. I turned them on, soft reset, loaded Sense, and it worked!
Here are the two registry entries I changed (I have no idea if they were set this way originally, or why or how they got changed):
HKCU/Software/HTC/Manila
EnableStartMenu
EnableWeatherClock
I changed both from 0 to 1

[Q] TouchLockPro setup guide for dummies?

Although I'm a fairly experienced WinMo user I was initially completely dumbfounded by TouchLockPro's setup UI. For some reason, after reflashing to Jackos ROM (after using DeepShining for a day - brand new TP2) values i know should be in some boxes on the Nav Sensor tab are blank and I have no idea what to put in them. The manual - what exists of it - is indecipherable to me in places and the Quick Setup guide on the web site is anything but.
I tried choosing the phone profile from the small dropdown box (to 6: 'HTC Rhodium (Touch Pro 2)') but even after resetting all the TLP settings to Defaults and trying again, I still can't get some things like the zoombar unlock features to work. (just can't get it to accept input to perform lock/unlock actions). The proximity sensor constantly reports -1 or 0 even though it's marked as enabled in the registry and obviously works because the screen blanks when I'm making a call (and turns on again as soon as I take it away from my head).
I really want to love this program and feel that it solves the problem I'm currently having (...no good device lock!) but I can't figure out how to configure it correctly to actually do what I expect of it. Anybody else who's run the gauntlet with the TLP setup interface care to give me some pointers or point me at a good setup tutorial?
Cheers
