Manila question - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

a newbie question here, what is the "Manila" or "Manila2D" thing, i know its a rom, but.... i have searched, i just want a simple answer please....
thanks.

Manilla 2d is a today page theme. Rather than having the cube to access programs you have a sort of 'carousel" at the bottom of the screen. It is used by dragging your finger or stylus from one end to the other.
A video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRs5jF3EVfA
While ROMs have been created to include the interface it is not actually a ROM. You can have any ROM and add it. Using this program: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173
What I did for the longest time was have a stock Bell ROM and just added the Manilla2d interface to it. But what I noticed is that with the PagePool being set too low made the device lag and freeze quite a bit.
Hope that helps, welcome to XDA.

thank you, and yes that helps....

Gooooood question!
I'd like to take look, just fer ****s & giggles ye know? don't wanna screw up my current install now. I'm in far too happy a place, ROM wise
Already tried it out...but it is useless for me...respons...like 3-5 sec after tapping a button...5mb less free RAM...this is too much for me..
Regards,
Primoz
All I can say is that the Dialer will not work correctly on 8252 with CIN 3.5.2. There are some alignment issues with numbers.
Also it's impossible to enter the settings for the skin and PHONE icon not linked correctly.
Best Regards
Why is this in the WM6 forum? Does the CAB only work on WM6?
It probably doesn't belong in this topic, but why don't we try and change that?
Would there be interest in making a WM6 ROM that looks and acts almost like an iPhone? I can see there being some disadvantages and no doubt a lot of people will miss the today screen, but there might be a few people interested none the less.
Maybe it would be better to keep it as an "iPhone CAB" with everything on it, so that users can try it and remove it quite easy?
What other programs would we need in the ROM do you think?
I'm thinking it would be good to try and embed Piscel Browser, or similar at least, so that you have the fancy finger scrolling on websites.
Maybe we could add the ringtones as well....

Why not ! Could be fun to try at least, providing performance didnt render it unusable.
@Pc78
To Deal With The Response Times, Select Settings And You Should Be At The Configurator App, You Can Change The Response Times With This App.
@.VIBE
It Should Uninstall Correctly, As That Option Was Selected With WinCE CAB Manager

Strange The Phone Link Works Fine On My Phone, Maybe Try It Again After A Soft Reset.

Does it include the filedialogchanger made by ??? which is posted with iConfig?

sorry, but im a little lazy atm so i havent downloaded it..
Problems with Dialer
This is my first post, can you put xelashiu WM6 version of the dialer in the cab file. because of the problems with key pad numbers lining up, otherwise great app Many Thanks

GREAT CAB
Great cab, I was just looking forward to install a cab like these, but has only problem with the dialer, I hope can be fix. Thank you for the great work.
This CAB is very nice, but it was eaier to configure an iPhone theme using WAD with all the godies. Plus, you can put the icons wherever you want and add or delete them.
Unfortunately WAD is buggy and creates a soft reset from time to time. Other than that it's a nice app to play with!
I really like the start for this app... iContact is my favorite cause its a Stylusless UI. Now if everything else is ported it would be awesome!!! The dialer is a good start too but really needs work with simplifying it. It doesn't need to be that complicated and the look can be polished too. I'm willing to work on it with the developer if you need more of my feedback. I'm an interface designer by trade so please use me
I AM WILLING TO PAY IF SOMEONE WERE TO MAKE THE ENTIRE iPHONE OS AS A CAB OR WM6 REPLACEMENT!
Anyone else?
I'm a software developer with a fresh mind straight from Uni...so if anyone wants to team up let me know and I'd be happy to start on this project.
Slither I'm up for it!
I'll design the interfaces... You make them work!
Deal or No Deal?
Oh btw which direction would you like to go Cook our own ROM or CAB?
Deal
I like the CAB direction...btw I'm working full time so i'll dedicate time for the project mainly in the evenings and whenever I get time during work. PM me for design thoughts you have.
Cheers.

What are the odds of getting Dutty's latest ROM without built-in Diamond TF3D Config

I love the new ROM but still having slowness issues with Diamond TF3D Config.
What are the odds that Dutty would make his ROM and leave that off so we could add it as we wish?
Any possibility?
Thanks,
Mark
Post in his ROM release thread, might be able to make you a cab? I am interested too.

I havent seen any slowness using tf3d config in rom, but if majority counts to leave it out i could no in future
PS Please post in my thread if you got questions releated to my roms instead of creating a new thread
lol, it is not possible that the rom is slowlier only because my tool is installed. That makes no sense. Just installing an app which is not running in background has no effect to the speed of your device.

agree!

2x Agree!!!
It's complete non-sense...
But besides that, this kind of issues should be raised inside the "Diamond TF3D config" thread, because if there was an issue with this application, it had to do with the aplication itself and not with the rom...

But if the application is built into the ROM and therefore ends up running, then the end problem is the same.

I beg to differ. If you read your thread, there were a couple of others that noticed it.
And on top of that... I installed the 1.3 or 1.4 ROM and had no issues. The moment I installed the TF3D configuration, I had a pause everytime I could hit contacts in the contact app.
I tried to uninstall it and it wouldn't work so I installed the new 1.93 ROM from HTC. I had no hesitation.
I then reinstalled Dutty's 1.5 and immediately had the same hesitation.
The program is great and perhaps it's just me but everytime I install it I have a hesitation.
I'm about to install ver 1.4 so we'll see if it works again....
Mark
Opps, can't.... version 1.4 has it also.
I'll play around and see....
Thanks,
Mark
ehm...only chaning the theme makes manila a bit slow and maybe some tweaks are making some devices slow.
But NOONE has the issue, that just after installing my tool or just after running and exiting my tool the device got slowlier. It is absolutely impossible.

It may be impossible but check out post 556 and 559 on your thread.... there's two more people having the same problem. I'm not dissing your work at all.... I think the software is fantastic, I'm just making sure I'm not the only one having a problem and if I am, I want to fix it.
Now, on to something else you said... I DID install a theme when I originally installed it. However, I've installed it since then with no themes and still find it sluggish.
I just reinstalled a completely different ROM (Diamond Project) just to see if I would have a problem. The problem is still there and I just noticed that it has the TF3D program built into it.
I'll try some other ROMs and see if that changes it.
Thanks,
Mark

I found out what the problem is.... You were right. It's not the TF3D program making it slow, it's actually when you hit the second tab (what is it, people?) and then hit all people.
There is a delay before pulling up a contact list.
Tonight I've installed 4 different ROMS and until I installed the last one which actually has "contact" in place of "phone" in the phone app, I realized if you click on contact, your contacts come up IMMEDIATELY.
If you hit people and then click on "all people" to pull up contacts, it DRAGS out. Each ROM has a different speed on pulling up the contacts but nonetheless, it's the damn TF3D software from HTC, not the TF3D config program you made.
My apologies, I was wrong and you were right... I'm starting to understand why so many people don't like the memory hog TF3D interface.
Looks cool but what a slow PIA.
Thanks, just thought I'd let you know....
Mark
When I first read this thread I thought surely you are confusing TouchFLO 3D itself with the TF3D Config utilty! You do realise TouchFLO 3D is simple to disable? Just got to Start>Settings>Today>Items and uncheck TouchFLO 3D.

Yes sir, I did know you can disable it. It's just that I didn't notice it was sluggish until I added the config program so I assumed (yeah, I know....lol) that was the problem.
All is well now.

Touchflo 3d for Blackstone?

Hi there,
can anyone give me a link of where to download Touchflo 3d for Touch HD??
I've recently found a thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470164 which compressed whole manila files to make the Touchflo 3d relatively smaller and faster to the original one, but this is for diamond only, I'm looking for something that suit for my touch hd, if anyone got what i'm looking for, please let know, many thanks!!
wrong post ?
dude, the Touch HD comes with Touchflo as standard, why on earth would you want to download it again ??
Also this is a the wrong part of the forum to post on !!, if you havent got it, then contact your phone provider

I believe lynne02191 is asking for a compressed/sleeker version of HD Manila (i.e., the images in Manila's qtc files are compressed) that runs more smoothly, etc. than the stock version, and this would be the right place to discuss this, IMHO.
I think with the inherent capabilities of the HD, as well as the wonderful cooked ROMs people are making, Manila runs very well, and there is plenty of extra memory on the HD with it running, so a compressed/sleeker version may not be a priority.
Just my opinion, but this might explain why no one is trying to do something similar to the thread you linked, which was done to make HD manila run smoothly on the Diamond. Then again, someone may already be doing this, I do not know.
You may want to look here ( see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470798) and look into the compression process.

Hi sk806,
Thanks for reply!
I've already been searching for a while, and I didn't found any version that is manila compressed but several .cabs which claimed are ported from the original blackstone manila.
after that, I installed all of them, but the result disappointed me, since I've encounterred many problems from the procedures.
anyway, like what u said, there are plenty of nice ROMs around there which run HD manila very well, so I won't bothering meself from searching anymore

i tried the "live patch" before flashing a full ROM but it didn't work on the HD, Chainfire is too busy at the moment to fix that up

TouchFLO or M2D on the LG INCITE!!!

I've been playing around with the Incite a good bit and discovered that M3D works a lot better on it than it did on the Tilt, but there is no WQVGA version of it, so that led me to search around a bit. After a bit of searching, I discovered that there is a version of M2D for the Omnia, and guess what! It works on the Incite too! And this is how to do it.
1. Install the M2D all in one cab file. (make sure you have 20mb in the phone storage and install directly to the phone, NOT the storage card or it will not work)
2. Install the Opera browser cab for the internet tab (works from the storage card)
3. Install the SECcontact cab (this is to view contacts in the contact list)
The only tab that doesn't work is the comm tab. Other than that, the Incite renders the program flawlessly. (no probs with standby, powering off, etc.) Enjoy!
Thanks to:
SztupY for Manila
NFSFAN for Opera
And black-DraGon for SECcontact
Download all the files here!

Here is a fix for the Comm tab.You will also need the Comm Manager if you don't already have it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=430468
Thank you very much, well, now we have a fully functional M2D! Another thing is that if you want to use one of the comm managers from that thread, it works just as well.
hi guys, i also have M2D on my incite and works fairly well. im also using the omnia m2d cab. i tried M3D for tilt but didnt work well.
Thats because the the M3D cab is QVGA, the Incite is WQVGA. If someone could port M3D to WQVGA our devices would run it better than the tilt, and not have the same issues.
So now I'm gonna work on some themes for M2D, will be posted them soon!

So that you're not doing unnecessary, modaco.com has a thread with lots of themes modified for the Omnia. Now get back to work on the ROM's!!

Is anyone else having the issue where scrolling side-wise through the tabs lags a bit?
It looks like it tries to load whatever tab my finger is over while scrolling ... and it slows down the phone considerably.
Help Please
I have installed the manila 2D and now I am not able to find the FM radio application. I listen to the radio a lot. can some one help me where i can find the FM radio applicaiton.
Thanks in advance.
I'm a noob at this whole thing. Can someone point me in to a step by step tutorial for installing this? (I'm sure i can figure it out if thier isn't one)
And once installed can you switch back to the original UI , and if so, how?
Thanks!
Just read the first post, and install in that order. To disable: start/settings/today/items and uncheck TouchFLO
ok, i have everything working. Thanks!
I have another question though. I installed M2DC in order to install some skins for M2D. The only ones i could find were Omnia skins. When i install them the scroll bar (the one with home, people, ect.) is not at the bottom resulting in about 3/8" of unused screen. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Those skins are WVGA and your phone is WQVGA, which is why it doesn't display properly. In order to fix it, open M2C and restore original layout and it should fix it.

TF3D2 Xperia Panel?

I've been looking all over XDA and the Internet for this one. There's mods for it, custom ROMs that use it, and even a utility to tweak it. But as many times as I can find it referenced, I can't find a TouchFlo 3D 2 panel for the Xperia. I am running this TF3D for the Xperia (thanks itje) as well as the extra Cab that turns it into a panel, and the workaround that makes it have an acceptable landscape version. Now, I've clearly missed something, because many other people seem to have this on their X1's with no problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, I am not interested in a ROM version. If that is all there is, then please tell me about it, but I would much rather have it in a cab file if that does even exist.

this will more than likely get ya the same stuff though...to be honest with ya, you should take the plunge and flash a rom!
there are plenty that arent buggy and very stable
Thanks for the help. I had (as I thought) overlooked the obvious. Fixed up now, and couldn't be happier. And to your second thought, I have tried flashing ROMs in the past. Not difficult and relatively safe as long as instructions are followed. Frankly though, I think I'm one of the few who actually likes the original stuff. Reset it all to factory and updated to R3A, now I'm set. As it is, I needed it back factory to take advantage of the warranty; need a new one because of some pretty bad case cracking. Everyone seems to be familiar with that one.
Anyway, thanks for your help.
