Radio version for Cingular/AT&T Atlanta area - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Anyone in Atlanta on Cingular/AT&T with Radio recommendations? I've been running 1.54.00.10 for some time now but feel that it drains my battery pretty fast compared to the 1.47 series. Any suggestions?
Rick

I recently went to the one in my sig, seems to have decreased battery life and shadier reception. Im also looking for a good radio for my 8525 but for San Diego (sorry to thread jack).

I found 1.54.30.10 radio to be the best overall for me (AT&T Bay Area, CA). Better reception and battery life than 1.54.00.01 & 1.48. As usual best for me but may not be for everyone else at another area.

No one has anymore input?

See my signature. I tried a number of radio versions and settled on this one for my area.

Is it possible that a radio upgrade could improve reception?

As background, I use a Jasjar with Cingular service here in the US. As many of you probably know, Cingluar uses both 1900MHz and 850MHz in the US. As the Universal can't use the 850MHz band I rely on Cingular's 1900MHz coverage... I get good reception most of the places I go, but it's definitely not as good as it could be, and I get dead spots that 850MHz Cingular phones don't have. I've come to accept that and I still love my Universal.
In any case, I had been using the official JasJar firmware with radio version 1.09 and one place where I had a dead spot was my parent's house. I usually spend at least a few hours there every few weeks or so, and I've never been able to get a signal at their house since I first got my JasJar nearly a year ago.
Last night I upgraded to radio version 1.10.03 and also the beta AKU 3.2 ROM. I was at my parent's house today, and to my amazement I got a signal at their house... a reasonably decent signal too... it got all the way up to two bars.
Now, it's been several weeks since I was last there, and it's quite possible that Cingular improved their 1900MHz coverage in that area, but I would tend to doubt that. It's also possible that it's the AKU 3.2 beta ROM, but I would doubt that too.
Is it possible that the radio 1.10.03 upgrade really did help with reception here? I'm excited to try to go to some other places where I know I had no signal or a poor signal before and see if it's improved there as well.

Best Radio ROM for T-Mobile UK

Hi, What is the best Radio ROM for my Vario II which curently has
Pro black 2.5
SPL 2.10 opli v7
Radio ROM 1.40
I use T-Mobile UK.
I don't think the signal quality is very good on 1.40 as I was on the phone and my wife said her voice was echoing...? I was using my bluetooth headset...but it never happened before the upgrade..? Before 1.40 I had 1.41 and I couldn't even connect to the network
Also, why does the start bar sometimes hide....? and how can I add a running programs shortcut on the bottom like I had on WM5..I can't seem to do it....?
Sorry for sounding like a newbie..I've looked in the WIKI but can't find it
I had some problems with 1.40, ranging from no radio at all to bricking the device.
What did you settle on in the end? I'm also on T-Mobile UK.

I'm still on the 1.40 and it works ok actually but I think it could be better.
I have had no problems so far with 1.40 radio and lvsw 23/4.
Hi,
I was using 1.40.30.00 and found it to be a great improvement over the other radio's
I mainly use my phone in West London and Central London.
I have now moved to 1.41.00.10 and will test it performance over the next few days.
Thanks
Msuk
Hi,
Radio 1.40.30.00 caused my battery to drain very fast. Since updating to version 1.41.00.10 I have had no problems.
I tried 1.41 but found it to be a bit less stable than 1.40 which I have gone back to. That seems to be about the best in my experience but they all have an issue with dropping calls/being unable to make receive calls if the phone is having problems switching back and forth between GSM/3G.
I found 1.40 my signal strength was very weak, compared to previous version i'd used, especially 1.38.
But i have just installed 1.41 and it seems better again, i'm going to stick with this for a while and see how i get on.
ps. i'm not sure the WM6 forum is the best place to be discussing radios
Thats wierd. I have the same setup as some of you guys and when I put 1.41 in my network didn't come at all. I don't really want to try it again. But i'm thinking if I should
I am using 1.38.30.1 - it feels much better than 1.40.. in terms of battery life and reception is stronger than my experience with all the other radios tried. Speed seems fine, HSDPA works fine. However I stay mostly on GSM to save battery due to poor reception at home and switch to 3G/ HSDPA only when really needed.
T-Mobile UK and 3G problems
Guys, please note that if you have problems with 3G coverage - for example missed calls or problems with making calls - it is probably network's fault, not necessarily Radio ROM. I was experiencing such problems while using original T-Mobile's WM5 ROM. People couldn't reach me while I've had full 3G coverage in Central London, and I also couldn't place any call at all. Switching manually to GSM-only mode solved all problems. I've complained to CS about that, they admitted to have some 3G issues, and gave £25 discount of my bill. Also, friend of mine having Nokia N70 also reported similar problems with 3G, he switched to GSM-only and is far more happy now.
Anyway, I was using 1.38 Radio for about 2 weeks with no problems whatsoever. Since yesterday I have 1.41 - so far, so good.
I agree. Switching manually to GSM used to solve the problem. In some areas it looked like GSM and 3G were changing every 2 seconds. But I do need 3G for fast browsing.
It may be network problems but you'd expect a radio to be able to switch seamlessly without impact the voice service though wouldn't you.

I will test this out and report back..
I can't believe this ... this "new" radio, posted on this board within MINUTES of me flashing back to 1.40.30.00. I had 1.40.30.00 on my machine for about 3 months, and never had a problem with it. 1.48 was not very good for me, lost connections, receiving device hang ups, etc. 1.50 was better than that, but not as good as 1.40 ... and I didn't bother to try 1.51 after all the issues I saw posted in these forums.
So today, about a month after going to 1.50, I decided to go back, and did that this morning.
And now, minutes after completing the flash, this. Very interesting. I'm going to be watching to see how well this radio rom is received.
Thanks, caxio!

Every thing looks normal. Was using 1.51. Will report back.
How does this radio rom work out for the people who have tried it already?
Am I missing something? Isnt 1.47 before 1.50?
This Rom and radio have been out for a while now. I downloaded it on the 9th of Aug, I have not tried it out yet nor the radio, How is it? Any reports on the Radio for AT&T USA
after two days of test for me is better radio for italy TIM after HERM_Radinly_1.40.30.00_CustomRUU no call drops good 3g signal every place good hsdp connections no battery drain
Not good for the area West of Chicago. Where I used to get 2 3G bars, now I get 3-4 Edge bars. I much prefer having two 3g bars and simultaneous voice/data.
Btw, I'm on AT&T.

Star, if you look at the original post date of this thread you'd see its old info.
Here is a link to the latest radio versions and there download links...

I wonder why HERM_Radinly_1.47.30.10_CustomRUU is not listed with the rest of them in the Wiki
Testing in Bangkok,Thailand GSM network (TRUE). Received Signal Strength better than 1.51.00.10 aroud 10 dbm (same location same period of time). Data speed seem better than 1.51.00.10 (smooth to download page). Phone activate once caller call at 1st ring (wake up mode) on standby mode activate at 1st and half ring. It's same as 1.51.00.10. Battery drain at normal (lower at 6mA).

During last 2 months I have tested with Italy wind Radio 1.41.00.10, 1.47.00.10 and 1.50.00.00 It seems that the better is 1.47.00.10 (better signal and low current).Do you think that Radio 1.47.30.10 is better than those 3 radio?
Can you recieve both data and voice together?
Do you have EDGE or 3G?
wiki updated
gsm reception same as 1.51 (it meens really good) data connection only test in edge area for the moment : seems good (1.51 was a bit slow to establish connection in 3G area)
Me also went to this one from 1.51 and I am very satisfied. It's very polite to battery (better than 1.51) and I noticed that sends my emails faster than before (the procedure of connection and transmition is shorter). The signal is very good and had none drop calls since now.

Ciao,
What ROM are you using please?
After testing this radio for a couple day, I still think radio 1.47.00.10 is better overall with 3G, battery, and phone calls.

I have just upgraded to 1.47.3.10...something to check with attention (/ 1.47.00.10) ?

Biggest Rhodium Disappointment? Phone reception.

Since I have gotten my Tilt 2 (ATT), I have not ever gotten good reception. I've flashed every ATT Radio, the newest radios (even non-att) and am running EnergyROM latest and can never maintain good phone reception. I always drop calls.
I know it's not my area, as I got great reception with my previous phone!
I feel like there is no way to get phone reception!!
Very disappointed in that
You guys experience the same problems?
no but theres no dead zones at all in houston.
yeah, i have nothing but good reception in my area (austin, texas and surrounding areas). Maybe you have a faulty antenna on your device. Have you called in At&t and tried to get a replacement? Head down to a Device Support center and talk to the guys there and they might change it on the spot for you, which i've had done many times with my original tilt and fuze.
Good luck.
Well, I changed my GSM Band to 1900+850 and flashed the latest radio and I seem to get better coverage.
One problem though (though it is minor): with these settings, it doesn't use HSDPA, only EDGE, which is slow lol
Any suggestions... please? Haha like maybe ghetto-rigging it with tinfoil? Ha I'm desperate

have you checked the coverage map of AT&T in your area? and also the material your house is built can also play a major role in signal, do you get more signal outside?

Best T-Mobile USA radio

Howdy,
Just wanted to see what radio T-Mobile users are using, and how good they're working. I'm on ARHD 3.0.0 and using the UGLC1 radio. My reception seems worse from when I had UGKK7 or the XXLA2.
There are literally dozens of threads on this.
It depends on your area. People are reporting good results with almost every radio out there.
I'm in Seattle and I've tried UGLA4 UGLC1 and XXLA2
I noticed signal strength *might* have been a little bit worse on the XXLA2 versus the other 2, but honestly, these are all so close. I just decided to go w/ the UGLC1 because it was the latest.
I get about 6-9mbps down and 3-4mbps up at my current spot (lower queen anne).
Thanks for the responses. I haven't seen much difference as well and I will stick with the latest uglc1 for a bit.
on XXKK6, Central Florida, absolutley no issue with signal, hell its better than my T989, or Nexs S was(reception where they would have none)
Please continue the conversation in one of the already established threads.
