Does anyone know how to uninstall this? When i try to do it on the phone or over Activesync I get a warning message that it could not remove all of the program and ultimately the entire program is still installed. It takes up too much room for what it does (and I think there's a battery issue with it as well) Thanks

Try using the Uninstall application of this program: http://www.dinarsoft.com/memmaid/ Once the program is uninstalled, just delete the remaining folders and then run the Quick Clean and that should remove all remnants of the Uninstalled program.
Thanks. It helped to remove mobitv and xmradio which were entirely useless to me and took up a lot of room. However, when I tried to uninstall memmaid it left a few bits behind - there are folders remaining in the program directory... in fact the MobiTv icon still exists in my program directory leading me to beleive that it's just deleting a folder and not removing the program from my reigstry, etc. It's a start though. Thanks again
Re: uninstall
This may be a silly question, but was VC cooked into the rom originally or did you install it yourself? If it was cooked in you will not be able to remove it. (As is true for any cooked in application.)
Best wishes,

Quick question; when using MemMaid, did you use the Quick Clean with all items checked? by default not all are checked.
Dead shortcuts
Dead Registry
Bad uninstall (files)
Bad Uninstall (Registry)
These are just a few items I would make sure are checked..
Thanks for the help guys. It was not part of a cooked rom and after checking the boxes on memmaid and rebooting a few times VC is gone (and 5 megs are free). After uninstalling memmaid (it's 900k - I can't keep that around ) it just left an empty folder called "Handyswitch actions" that I'm just going to manually delete. Thanks for the help. I was this close to deciding between keeping Skyfire and outlook

Sorry, during install of MemMaid you could of unchecked the handyswitcher and whatever extras you didn't need and they wouldn't have installed. Glad to see you has some success though.

You can't install MS VC to storage card and have it work correctly unfortunatly.
I've had same issue whilst installing MSVC to storage card and had tp install it to phone. I also had same problem trying to uninstall it. Luckily I wanted to upgrad my ROM which solved the problem
As I've been using my phone I learned there's a new glitch - if I use autocomplete to fill in text or complete an email address, etc it crashes my phone (I think pasting text does too). This didn't happen a day ago so I think there's a connection to the uninstallation of VC. I've reset it 5 times and it's always the same result. The screen becomes nonresponsive, switching to landscape mode takes about 45 seconds and doesn't solve anything and both the onscreen keyboard (Happy Tapping) and the hard keyboard fail to function. If I wait it out I can get the start menu to drop down and get to the Today screen but navigation is still brutally slow there and the email sits. I Use o2plus and it shows apps are running but doesn't state them (it's pOutlook that is frozen). Any ideas? I wish PPC had 'last good state' like Windows... thanks again
I have VC on my memory card and have no problem... Dont know why you have though.

More specifically when installing to SC anything bluetooth related doesn't work.

My phone has been acting terribly. The home screen is basically blank, except for the top and bottom soft buttons. I seem to be able to access all my programs. I cannot access any of my contacts though. When I tap contacts it goes to the contacts screen but there are none there.
Is there another way for me to access my contacts, so that I can write them down and save them before I hard reset?
Hard resetting will delete them, correct?
I have total commander installed, and can access that.
thanks
Use PIM backup to backup the contacts to sd card and restore afterwards

download one of these and back eveything up.... pim back up (backs your contacts, texts and what not to your sd card where you can then restore back to your phone after you hard reset)
microsoft myphone... very cool. Download it and run it. You log in using your windows live account and it backs it up to the "cloud" You can access all your contacts and calendar events, texts, photos, videos, documents etc etc on the internet on a dedicated website. It can back up your phone every day if you want it to automatically. It can even use your location to find the phone if it gets lost.. well to an extent. Restoring is as easy as reinstalling the program after you hard reset and running the restore mode.
Microsoft outlook... This is the most common I think. Use Microsoft outlook and back up your contacts and what not. Connect your phone and "Active sync" it so it backs everything up. After you hard reset, re connect your phone and re-sync all the data. Depending on your carrier I think most carriers provide a trial of this program on the installation cd you got with the phone if you don't already have outlook installed on your computer. You also need to have "Windows Mobile Device Center" or whatever windows XP uses if you still use XP.. again those can be found online free or on the cd you got when you bought the phone.
Do a little reading on all of those.
They're all really straight forward.
awesome! microsoft myphone got it all....
thank you much
hopefully a hard reset gets this phone back on track now....
Hi im currently contemplating exchanging my hd7 for a samsung omnia 7 but I just realised, how would I go about transferring my paid apps from the hd7 to the sammy as there ain't no back up option in Zune as there is in itunes anyone know what I should be doing
If you downloaded them from the Zune software in the computer it should automatically re-download/install them. If you downloaded them on the phone then you'll have to re-download them manually from the phone.
When you click buy it should tell you that you've already purchased it and give you the option to download it again.
ok cheers was worried it would charge me again thx
Yeah, just make sure you sign in with the same Windows Live ID and all will be good.
Exactly, it's similar to the iTunes Store, the apps are not linked to the phone, only to the Live ID that they were purchased from.
Hoping they will add some backup functionality soon to Zune properly as having Zune put some apps on but having do some yourself via the phone is a tad annoying
The only problem is that you'll lose all application data and settings (e.g. login info for Google Reader, ebooks for your reader etc. etc.), and there's no [easy] way to back them up. You can probably unlock your phone, connect it as USB drive, transfer files, copy and rename them, but that's a major hassle and isn't guaranteed to work for all apps, so probably not worth it...
Yup, and that's one of my biggest gripes about this, I installed the HTC Notes app via Zune, put some info in there etc, then forgot before I redid my phone, Zune put the app back on but no sign of the data, stupid mistake, my fault, but come on Microsoft!
Yes, this is somewhat unforgivable especially given that it's trivial to implement in WP7 (unlike WM) since apps aren't allowed to write anything outside their sandboxes. You probably just need to copy the contents of the Apps folder, and maybe some licensing information elsewhere.
My guess is that there's no app backup simply because .xap files are so easy to crack once you get them, so once they get on your PC protection is removed in a matter of seconds. Not that keeping them on the phone prevents anything but still, it makes things a bit more difficult.
My take on this is that app backup will come when MS improves their protection system in Marketplace, which may take a while. Or it will be done unofficially here, it's not that difficult once a stable method of unlocking/getting access to filesystem arrives.
We really don't need App backup though, we need App data backup. The App and data are stored in different directories, so it would pose no risk to the DRM.
It'd make sense to have a backup option in Zune where it, as part of the sync process, once a week or so backs up all user-accessible data.
What I don't like is the fact that on hard-reseting your phone it will only auto-install apps "purchased" thru Zune (the desktop software) and not apps purchased directly from the phone. There doesn't seem to be a app-purchase-history available either, so in a few months I can foresee this being a big problem. You've gone thru hundreds of different apps and all of a sudden need to reset your phone; sync it back up with Zune and it starts installing all the apps you've ever bought/tried. There needs to be a history where one can delete apps (or at least select that they don't auto-install on reset).

You are right, backing up just the app data without the .xap files would work for me just fine, the backup mechanism could just launch installation of apps from the Marketplace, I wouldn't mind that.
This solution, however, would require some smart mechanism that would only transfer app data after respective apps are already installed, otherwise I would expect a lot of people getting confused and complaining a lot.
I haven't bought a single application via desktop Zune, by the way - where does it store the .xap files? What would happen if you just copied a .xap there?
from word around, when the first update comes out, it should bring backup and restore capabilities using zune desktop. this should meet all your needs.
vangrieg, in terms of downloading via the phone, i'm presuming it's the same as if you downloaded a zip file from the web and clicked run, rather than save, the xap is downloaded and auto extracted and installed, and then the xap is disgarded.

It doesn't. The process is; You "purchase" an app or game thru the desktop software and it's automatically downloaded and installed on your phone within a few minutes. The .xap is never downloaded onto your computer.
What I was getting at previously was that apps purchased directly on the phone does not seem to re-install automatically after a device hard-reset whereas apps purchased on the desktop does. There seems to be a disconnect between services here.
So Zune just automatically redownloads apps? Then it has to have a list somewhere, so I guess this could be worked around.

This is very annoying! I've flashed a few times and it will install all the apps you've installed using Zune and you cannot stop them. You cannot remove them from the list in Zune.

There is a list in Zune where you can see all the apps you've installed. Go to Settings (up by your login name) then,
Account -> Purchase History -> Apps
Hi guys, I have a strange behaviour of my LG Optimus 7:
Some weeks ago I decided two install two applications from Zune's marketplace, then I installed other apps from phone's marketplace.
Suddently I formatted both PC and PHone but the first time after PHone formatting I connect the phone Zune automatically reinstall the two application: The Weather Channel and the game Unite.
How it is possible? both phone and PC are fresh formatted, I think it takes data from Windows Live ID Account, please help this thing is really annoying!!
i would imagine that it gets cached on the server side that it was installed via Zune Desktop. I don't think you can do much about it at present. Perhaps see if it is possible to remove the history on your account of the app install? I'm not too sure to be honest, i've actually installed everything via my phone.
in zune you can delete music, but I don't think you can delete apps (just tried and it wouldn't let me).
Might mention it through zune support.
That's happened to me to as well. It reinstalls anything that you installed through the desktop version originally.
I wish there was a way to reset this stuff, as there are times when I want to install something from the phone, but had installed it from zune, so it says I can't since I already purchased it. Why can't I install from both?!
I think this is an issue... if I don't like an app I have all the right to delete it, and also to change my mind to reinstall from where I want!
MAybe the guys just did some mess in the mechanism that manage subscriptions?
This happened to me a few times.
Birdy Bouce is always restored on my phone (I broke a HD7 so was resetting that a lot and it it's present on my Omnia)
Incidently, Birdy Bounce is the only game I installed via zune.
I have the same problem. I get restored over 30 unwanted apps every few days. This is a huge bug, I think. Hope for noDO...
Well, first of all hello to everyone! I am new in here but have been visiting XDA for a pretty long time now.
Now with the introduction aside, let me get to my issue.
I don't know if you have noticed some problems with non-working live tiles of apps pinned at the home screen, the inability to connect to messaging (Live Messenger, Facebook chat) or other general problems.
Well, I contacted @WinPhoneSupport (as well as many, many other people) to report two problems (the first two mentioned above) that I'm currently experiencing. I was advised by them to restart my phone and then pull my battery for at least two minutes in order to see what happens. So, I left my battery out overnight but my problems weren't fixed.
I was told then to restore my backup and reinstall Mango
After thinking about it for some hours, I thought it would be better to start over again by doing a factory reset but then I suddenly remembered that some things I care about were not saved in the Zune "backup" so now I'm stuck again with the problem.
So, I am now in a dilemma; should I just reset my phone and go my way up till Mango from RTM? If so, is there some homebrew that could save data which is not saved by Zune? I'm interested on saving some ringtones (not available anywhere else!) I downloaded from the Insider app. [ I was considereing using the Windows Phone Device Manager but it can't identified my phone (dev unlocked). ]
or
Is there any way I could possibly fix the "Can't connect to see who's online" error message in Messaging?
I appreciate any help you can provide to my problem.
A factory reset will do. I did it and it was restores to mango, not the pre mango state. Live tiles etc works well after that.
Sent from my LG-E900

I would advise you to reconsider if there is any data that you would like to keep or unwilling to drop before doing any reset...

Yes, there's information I would like to keep but I don't know how
For example:
I downloaded 5 ringtones from the "Insider" app, at first I thought Zune would sync them into the Music folder (PC) but that was not the case.
There are a few SMS I would like to keep, they're not that important but it'd be nice to have 'em.
I suppose there's nothing I can do to save my game scores.
I think that's it, I can't remember of anything else Zune hasn't already save on my PC.
I know I could use Windows Phone Device Manager but I can't get it to work. (Yes, my phone it's dev unlocked)
You can try to copy your sms to a word document and upload it to skydrive. But you won't be able to import them back into messaging hub. As for gamescores, only XBOX live games will be saved.
They really need to alter the way Zune does backups. I have some live tiles that wont function but i'll be damned if i have to reset and they install all of my apps and tile locations again.
@morpheuszg That's a good idea, simple but that'll do it
And yes! MSFT gotta do something with Zune when it comes to backing up
Does anyone know whether Windows Phone Device Manager can access the ringtone folder in WP7 and if it's Mango ready?
None of your games progress will be saved, including Xbox Live games. What you wont lose are the achievements you've already unlocked, but you will have to play those games again from the beginning if you havent finished them already.
Best thing you could do is finish whatever games you want, forward your sms's to another phone where you can send them back again (or copy to word as suggested). I have pinged Joe Belfiore & Brandon Watson several times on twitter about the lack of proper backup, add your voice as well because it really is a disgrace that there is no way to backup data we care about, on the phone that is supposed to be all about the people and things we care about.
