Dear admins,
i think we must take an action to stop scammers. This is just a suggestion.
I think users who has zero post, or below 50 couldnt be able to open thread.
This may stop scammers.
what you think ?

Well report it (top right) or use the SPAM thread to report it

That thread is not only long standing but also a sticky and its in this same section. Thus you can see we are dealing with it,
I just wanted to make a point here, which I guess the admin must be unaware of.
Personally having been here at XDA since 2007, I still use the "XDA classic" skin. However I recently was using the "XDA 2010" skin, and noticed something unusual about the differences between the two skins when you report a post.
With XDA classic when you report a post it says this:
Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.

However with the XDA 2010 skin it notes something completely different:
So you want to report a post. Please read this first!
If a member is being unruly or offensive OR if you want to request that a post/thread be moved/deleted,
you MUST contact the specific moderator of this forum directly via PM. Do not use the form below.
Here is a list of forum-specific moderators. [Link to Google Document]
Please only submit this form if you are reporting a copyright violation or if someone has violated another XDA rule.
Click to collapse
..and obviously if you are using TapaTalk or the XDA app, you don't get either of these messages.
I don't know how long this message in the XDA 2010 skin has asked members to not use the report button for offensive posts or misplaced threads, but this is news to me.
Please advise.
This was only put in place in the last few weeks. It's there to prevent users using the RP form for trivial issues such as posts in the wrong forum, or minor flaming/trolling issues, that can all easily be solved by a PM to the moderator allocated to that specific forum.
I'll flag to the admin that it's missing from the classic template.
Thanks. This change seems like it will only serve to make these "trivial" type of infractions more acceptable. In my personal opinion it's these trivial infractions which are making some of the forums here more of a garbage dump than the great info sharing site that xda once was.
It shouldn't as far as I can see...the person reporting just has to PM the forum mod, rather than submit the report using the form...nothing is different with regards to what is acceptable or not.
But it's a system that's being tweaked so there may be more changes down the track.
Thanks for the explanation.
We'll update classic.
There are a lot of features that 2010 has that classic doesn't, because we really don't support classic anymore. It's there for those that want to use it, but our data shows that 95%+ of XDA users on 2010.

That may be true, but my data also shows that 90% of all forum users on the internet use the default forum skin.

The default skin for users is now XDA 2010 iirc. I believe you only get the old one if you were registered before that date.

That was kinda my point.
I'm glad the users like the 2010 skin, but xda just isn't the same to me without classic.
agree with indagroove. Chasing down forum mods via p.m. is quite a pain in the butt and there seems to be quite an increase in flaming/ language going on lately.
I don't even get the forum mod list, just that I need to contact the mod for the specific forum.
Too complicated now to bother, but it wouldn't suprise me to see people turned off of xda due to the flaming they are receiving just for asking questions.
You can just peruse the WP7 general forums to see how much flaming goes on (and the mods there have done a great job, but it gets out of hand quickly).
Just my 2 cents.
It seems the Navigon threads have been removed. Can someone confirm this or am I just overlooking these threads?
noticed this some days ago
posted some stuff in these threads, but can't find them anymore
My guess would be that as the application is now in the marketplace to buy, the threads discussing how to get it for free are technically now against the rules...if these are the threads you were referring to?
that was my first thought as well (now available in marketplace)...
And? Is this the way a interest tread without a "why closed" to deleted?
Its for me not to understand, sorry.
Would be better, the asking for a v4 copy to delete and this users to blocked, then this way like now.

The threads were deleted.
They were in breach of XDA Rules.
6. Do not post warez.
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, either pay or find your cracks and serials somewhere else. We do not accept warez nor do we permit any member to promote or describe ways in which Warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained.

Once the "Premium" features were hacked into the Free app, it becomes Warez.
I am in the process of finding out who posted what & when. Infractions &/or bans will follow.
As a Linux / Android developer I can't answer and help in the developement forum because not enough posts! Do I really have to more stupid posts like this before I can post real?
To post here I had to log in AND use the annoying Image Verification.
Do you really have so much spam to bother real people?

And even harder to post another message:
To prevent spam to the forums, new users must wait five minutes between posts. All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed.

I hope after the first 10 posts, I can really USE the forum to help others and become help and information.
I read the forum since Sep 2010 (see Join Date), but nearly every post I tried, was blocked!

Yea dd-wrt is a better forum for getting things done. I sent an email to xda and was told if I had asked nicely they would have lifted the 10 post limit but since I didn't he wouldn't. Its like this forum is run by a bunch of teenagers who think their sh*t don't stink....
Sounds like you ladies are mad I joined last night and had ten posts last night. Why are you whining.

Let's assume you have experience in running a site with over 4 million accounts, and 60.000 daily visitors. Let's say it's a hot topic, like Android.
How much do you think ad companies would give to get their hands on accounts or even ad space?
The 10 post rule is there to prevent spamming and new members asking questions in development threads that are easily answered with one search action. So, the impossibility answering questions in development is the downside of this rule, but it's easily remedied if the question is an "easy one".
We are always looking to make the visit on XDA as pleasant as possible, however, the size of the forum doesn't always allow it, sadly.

hi,
I am wondering why I don't have write-access to the development board here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002782&page=4342
my account statistics say I have 11 posts. Have you changed something with the 10 posts limit?
thanks!

If you followerd the first rule of XDA and searched first you would have found one of the myriad other posts where users are simply told to be calm and wait - it sometimes takes a while for the board to update.
Also, as you have clearly gone out of your way to spam the board with fairly pointless posts, especially the ones since 6:07pm (BST) today, I really do hope that your post on the Dev thread is going to be earth-shatteringly important and insightful
hi,
thanks for the info but the 10 posts rule forces one to make some rather spam posts before accessing other forums...and now that I got this number of posts I was a bit frustrated because I really was searching for some posts I could make. you're right, I could have used the search function better. but I wouldn't ask here if I had just some spam for the development board...

The 10 post rule doesn't force you to spam at all. It doesn't force you to do anything.
Everyone who has signed up during the last 2 years has had the exact same limitations as you and the majority of those people didn't feel forced into doing anything. They realised/understood the reasons behind the rule and engaged in the forums without moaning about it or spamming.
Just imagine how much of a mess XDA would be if all members were allowed to post whatever they want wherever they wanted.
I've never understood why the 10 post rule is such a big issue to quite a few users. It took me about a month to get to 10 posts but it didn't matter because the rule didn't bother me. I didn't need to post in a development thread because I always found my answers by searching. Only once I didn't manage to find my answer so, instead of making useless posts, I contacted one of the active helpers on that thread via PM and asked them for help. I got my issue sorted out without the need to make posts of no value.
I didn't actually make my first post in a development thread until around 3 months after sign up (already had hundreds of posts at that point) and that was purely to help someone else.
we have this thread here
Want To Post In Development?
and
Alternate to 10 post
