could the device update app cache the installers to sd card and optionally insert the file into a sdconfig.txt if present.

Well my site is pretty public, I offer a free mirror for all of all of CRC's device updates can be accessed and download manually by going to http://www.captfiero.com/roms Once you are there just navigate to the section you want and download them. You can store all of them locally on an SD card or even on your desktop until you are ready for them, they are all cab files.
Side note, if you browse to the site on your phone, you can click to install them right from the site.
Yeah, I know it' s a bit late and this thread is already forgotten, but btw. it would be nice to get some independence from this "deviceupdate" and to host the cabs locally on the sd card
How to manage this? To my mind CRC's 13.4 Rom for Hermes is great, but this DeviceUpdate thing is a little bit strange for me...

Look at it more as an installer for things that you don't need to have stored locally.
A thread in here is not needed on this topic, Either post in CRC's thread asking him, PM CRC the master himself, or post in his public thread in dev and hacking HERE

Hi - I have both a Universal and a Wizard. For a while now, on my Wizard I've been using a ROM made up of 'best bits' of all the available releases, with all carrier customisations removed - this is released under the name 'Mr. Clean' rom. It's bugless and lightweight. Perfect!
Does anyone release a similar rom for the Universal? Or does anyone prepare one for their own use who might consider sharing? It really would be great to see.
This would be cool
We should do this.
A "Clean" ROM with a CAB set to choose from for each provider.
I would appreciate this greatly - since t-mobile remove some stuff from the blank setup.
Rich
A fast, lean and mean ROM would be awesome. I don't have the time or skills unfortunately.
There is one already. It was made by Jwright. Just don't install the Ext ROM if you really want it to be super clean. Here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=55019&sid=7789d445c5b87ea11980c475ab58e2c9
I followed that thread - but the links dont exist.
Could someone upload the T-mobile version of Jwright's ROM to the XDA-Developers FTP site??
If not - email it to me, PM me for my address. I'll host it on my website if someone sends it.
I just tried the thread I posted above and the link works fine. It must be your computer settings.
I am not sure which version is this though. I think he released QTEK, IMATE, and TMOBILE versions. Just use the Ma_Upgrade_No_ID_Tool.
The links to the other topics work OK but the ROM links given in http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=55019&sid=7789d445c5b87ea11980c475ab58e2c9
don't?? There is no such directory on the ftp site????
Exactly - The posts link OK, but the FTP site doesnt contain the ROMS
The link I posted above is the link to the topic with the files you guys are looking for. It should be on the first post of that link, and it works fine on mine.
Yes it does but we're talking about the links to Jwrightmcps modified ROM's... These are missing from the FTP site????
I am now confused. This has been discussed before, someone took off those files from the fttp. Probably someone does not want to share or maybe it took a great chunk of memory storage. That is why "Xanadu" provided us with this alternate download site, but it is the same file, so it does not really matter if we can't find the original posted file by Jwright because someone was gracious enough to share.
I thought the topic was where is Jwright's Modified ROM? I provided a link on where to donload it. Question answered. What is still the confusion? Are you looking for a specific file for a specific device like Jwright promised? If so, he also left instructions on how to use the Ma_Upgrade_No ID file. So just extract the files necessary and rename them, then install.
Hey guys,
I swear I must be retarded or something.
Been looking to upgrade to WM6 for a while now, and decided to throw on Black V2.5.
But, I'm also seeing further things such as radio, bootloader, HardSPL etc.
Are these necessary?
If someone can basically add me on MSN and talk me through it, if it's not too tricky, that'd be awesome...
If not, then I'm guessing, I can hook the phone to my PC, flash Black on to it, then copy over the .cab files and run them from the device?
S**t the bed...

Firstly, welcome to the Forum
1-Sync your mobile with your PC
2-(Assuming the Cab File is on your PC). Drag this file to a folder on your mobile, eg /Program Files.
3-Using File Explorer, from your mobile, locate this file and run it on your mobile. This will auto install the file.
Secondly, you must Read the WIKI before you decide to install any ROM. This will eliminate the need to ask questions that have already been covered on the subject. MR VANX has written an excellent guide on upgrading your ROM, see last post above your request, and the guide is regularly updated. (thanks for all your good work MR VANX).
I am also fairly new to upgrading and extensively read the guide and followed all instructions. I have now successfully uploaded many ROM's. (Many thanks to all the CHEFS for their dedication and commitment, please keep the ROM's coming).
Good Luck.

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Appreciate you ran out of room for all of your cabs, this forum does contain a lot of very useful things,(Thanks Chefs), & if you think you are going to need some again & again, put the most useful cabs on your storage card & then install them to your device. (just in case you keep flashing, as it becomes addictive)
Sorry, already answered
I just figured out since most people like everything in one place, I decided to collect all relevant stuff for diamond and put on my FTP for easier and accessible place for DOWNLOADS.
First of all I will be collecting all:
HTC Diamond Official Roms
HTC Diamond Radios
Diamond Compatable Cabs
My own Cooked Roms
Public Beta Roms
Private beta Roms only accessible to my own private beta testers.
If You guys want me to add any folder for relevant stuff for downloads let me know my PM and I will consider.
I will only ask if You want to make a small donation to My Host for sharing the Site to me that would be appreciaated:
Please_Donate_to_Vincent_for_providing.me_with_hosting
Bandwidth shouldnt be a problem for downloads but I will be monitoring this.
At the moment I started uploading an officail Roms in its relevant Folder.
Download Access can Be Found here.

great
glad someone is taking this to hand!
Thanks again Dutty for all your constributions to XDA!!!!!
Donation is on the way. Just have to wait for my paycheck......
Finally!
Well as I provided you with around of 5TB bandwidth each month and you got around of 25GB of webspace...you should be able to host alot of things.
And people should be able to download alot
I'll also keep monitoring the bandwidth, but it should be ok.
I would kindly ask people to donate to me tough, as hosting isn't exactly free.
The hosting link is in my signature

This problem has just been fixed as request from Dutty by me.
*technical gibberish*
The file stores every download in a file, somehow a file got duplicated and thus permissions where gone..No idea how but it's fixed.
*end of technical gibberish*
Dutty is the chef. MasterOfDesasters is the lead webmaster (Kudo's!) and I'm just the guy who sometimes fixes stuff on request and hoster of the site.
You've gotta chmod a lot of the newer files:
Could not open file true for writing. Make sure PHP has write permission to this file.ck Reply icons in the posts above to activate Quick Reply.
This comes up when somebody tries to DL any of the newer files.

Finally see that your site is coming together nicely! though i still miss the old one.
by the way, Dutty bro, do you have any information on this official rom on your site:
RUU_Diamond_Chunghwa_1.39.751.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.rar
Chunghwa looks kind of Chinese ... is it the latest official rom from HTC?
Good to know
I like to know that all my favorite downloads are available in one place ......thanks to Dutty
Thank you Sir
Peace
Mike

Hi there,
First of all! Great forum! You guys have build a great community and I like it. But I hope you can help me with this. i know there are a lot of threads about this, but because all the different type of phones/android versions ect... I don't know what to do...
My question, how can I get Adroid running on my HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium). I have the standart version, so not a branded one.
I've tried to install it but android won't launch. Maby one of you could create a mini tutorial or a noob tutorial, because I think there are more people like me (with less knowedge of phone tech) who want to run android on their phones. I hope you could help me!
Thanks!
Kind Regards,
Sami

Cab is only WWE for the moment. If you still want to try this build skip down to the .rar for any other language.
If you are installing this over an old version of android, and you do not format your SD card, make sure that you at least delete data.img file from your SD card!
Copy to SD card
Install: This .cab does install directly to your SD card.
Soft Reset your handset
Run Haret from start menu and enjoy!

Haret is part of the android program. (haret.exe)
You can either use a file explorer to navigate to storage card/android/haret
or with the .cab installs (anything after 2/22) you will get an icon in your start menu.

I have Android installed on my phone and it works fine except one MAJOR thing. I messed up the touch screen calibration and now I can't use the touch screen in android and I cant figure out how to recal the touch screen in android.
Got it. i just deleted the ts calibration file from the android project folder and started android again.

Ok man maybe you can help me out with the problem im having. I go to file explorer and i launch Haret.exe and it immediately takes me to the linux booting page with the penguin at top. But it soon stops saying "Cant access tty. Job control turned off. And it doesnt move from there. What am i doing wrong?
delete all the contents from the .cab file you downloaded, make sure your memory card has wiped any remaining files from the original download, re-install and make sure you are downloading the correct .cab file for your handset, install to memory card and try again.
Yo Ihwparis chill out. This is a forum for information trading and gathering. Everyone was a noob at one time or another including you and asked questions that have been asked a million times already. Stop treating people like idiots. Help them or stop reading the thread. Someone else will help them out. It's not that serious. I can tell you one problem here that I encountered was a thread would be started and trail off into someting completely different never answering the first question. After reading pages upoon pages you get nothing. Some people like myself have real lives and real jobs and dont have time to sit here and read every post. If you take it so serious maybe you should sticky an informative how to guide and maybe that will stop people from bothering you so much.

I was actually on XDA for about 6 months, reading, before I finally decided to even MAKE an account, because I didn't want to be "That Noob". It was about another 6 months to a year before I posted anything at all. As you said yourself, most questions have already been asked a million times. This means that it is only a matter of reading, before you find someone that has asked the same question. In most cases once you find the question, and read a little further it leads you to the answer. He was smart enough to post in the correct sub-forum, which means he must have read through the forums a bit anyways. It wouldn't have taken much more work to read the top 3 sticky threads in that same sub-forum, and find the answer to the question.
I can get the whole thing to load however I cannot ever get the start screen (touch the androind to start) to ever let me touch it. The only thing that works is the keyboard input. Any suggestions?
Hello everybody,
I would like to share with you this working/booting version of android. Because I read many people have trouble, getting the phone work, or problems with looping boot. I putted this together, with the right zimages and rootfs and an working startup.txt. everything is pulled together from this site so the credit goes to the other ones. But I think it is nice to have an zipped build of android 2.1 ready to go for Topaz!
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NRXPN3FV
The version is without sense.
Extract the rar to an empty sd card and run haret!
Have Fun!
How is this different from any of the other builds on this site?!?
To the untrained eye it would appear that the ones that are located in the (obviously) main thread are somehow broken or not working... People have issues, we do our best to help them hash it out. Threads like this are just going to create more confusion.
because it's copy and play, usefull for members who don't understand how to compile everything together, this is an good build, even usb works!

A) What are you talking about USB works?!? Are you saying that YOUR build has things that work in it that other builds do not?
B) The others are "copy and play" as well... I haven't compiled a kernel in months, but I still get updated packages. Just copy them to the SD... how is yours easier again?
that was what i was saying indeed, things work what on other builds does not, but enough i understand you don't want it

How are you having USB working? afaik the system is read only. And you can't mount USB as Android is being run on it.
Be abit more specifigc about which USB functionality you are referring to
