Hey guys,
I did the new WM6 update rom on my Siemens SX66, I love the new OS but the new O/S is lacking the Permenant Save feature which it has in Windows Second Edition 2003. I needed this alot, since when the batter is low on power and it shuts down. I was using permanent save to restore all my contacts back. This feature is not available in this new O/S I dont know what it was removed.
I lost all my contacts now, and I cannot get my numbers back without the permenant save program. Does anyone know a solution. Is there an add on pack that can be added to the new windows so that it will work and retrieve my numbers?
Anybody??

Hello,
I update my MDA pro to the new imate ROM but my emailaccount keep vanishing after a softreset has anyone any clue?
Thanx
same here
but on my device it was like this also before the upgrade?
which device dou you have, and which rom you had before upgrading to the jasjar rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=161019#161019
dont soft reset using a stilys. Use a program to allow flush the file bufferssss
yeah, thanks but.
i know that and honestly i still have to try it. BUT:
I just want to know WHY this happens, and WHY other users with the same ROM as mine is DONT have this problem.
And, if i incidentally do a Softreset or maybe take out the battery, i lose my account again! thats not a solution for me.
Anyways thanks for your hint . apreciate that.
can you confirm my thought about the battery? or maybe its REALLY losing the accounts just after a Stylus reset?
It hapened to me time ago.. Some programs, like outlook, dont flush their databases buffers each moment. So, if you create a new account, or delete some mails or sms (this actions modify the database files managed by outlook) and then you reset your pda using the stylus, many buffer may be not empty so you loose that information. When you reset your pda using a program (it uses a API funcion that allow the buffers to be flushed to their files) all the information is saved in disk and you wouldnt hava to loose anything.....
thnx
thats was a clear explanation, thank you.
Any ideas why this happens only on some devices, even if they have the same rom?
I ve repeated the test right now. I have sent a email to my account in gmail(this account is configured in my jasjar). I ve connected using UMTS an and i ve downloaded the mail. then a i ve soft reset using stylus. When the device has booted i have launched pocket outlook and the mail wasnt there. I ve downloaded the mail again and a i ve done soft reset using a program (handy meny). When the system has booted the mail was there. Conclusion: I supose Outlook use the api fuction "CeWriteRecordProps" to update or insert a new record in the outlook database and probably Windows Mobile 2005 uses a buffer policy to reduce the access to these databases. so, if windows hasnt written this records fisically to disk then you can lose some information if you reset using stylus. When you use a program to reset, windows informs to the device drivers that "sleep" is in progress and they have to save the unsaved information so the disk driver has a chance so save all.
I hope Microsoft change this policy soon.....
so you...
...think this happens on all HTC Universals?
I think it happens in all Windows Mobile 2005 devices....
ok, i´ll let you know in the next days...
...then i´ll receive some more universals. and also one of a freind of mine, who told me that he hasn´t got this problem. i don´t know if its true, but we will see...
I don't know.I ve repeteated this test with my jasjar and my himalaya(with magneto) with same results
i can confirm...
...your description to 100% !
with a "soft"-softreset everything is fine.
and i´ve found out why other devices semmed to do NOT have the problem. Those users setted up their account, and had serveral (100+) mails ond their pop-server. Poutlook took a few minutes tu download headers and part of the messages. in this time the "buffer" was "written back" to the mail-db.
So: I think that for now, all the WM5, or at least all UNIVERSALS got this problem. Some user just don´t realize it.
Now that we (well,i) now that it is not a problem of just my device, FOR NOW i think i can live with this solution. btw, i use Pocket Plus 3 as task manager and Softresetter.
thnx dherrero.
Thanx DHerrero
After your tip I used spb pocketplus 3.0 and the softreset works wonderfully!
Thanx for the workaround hope they'll fix it soon because pocketplus makes the system very slow.[/list]
strange....
With Pocketplus my system runs fast as always, no problems at all.
Pocketplus
Probably due too a combination of software then.
I'll work it out if you say its not due too SPB Pocketplus
Thanx
you re wellcome. There are many programs to soft-reset the device "softly" and thye dont brake the system.... For example Hany Menu and much more..
Hi!
I've been researching the last, dunno, 6hours or so...
I'm quite desperate now, so here's what's up:
-I use a HTC BlueAngel (MDA III)
-made a full backup with ActiveSync (I knooow I should have used whatever 3rd party backup tool... too f**ing late)
-successfully upgraded the system to "Helmi_WM2k5_AKU3.2_32mb_v1.3.2_16mb_bitpool_32mbRamdisk"
-been happy for like 5 minutes
-so I started to get my contacts and calendar restored (still had all my files/pictures - cool)
and then it struck me: ActiveSync 4.x cannot restore these infos to the WM5 system!!
Sooo, after some diggin' on the net I finally got "MobileVault"...
I thought, yipeee, I have succesfully exported my Contacts Database and Appointments Database to my PC...
(I just opened my backup.stg and opened WinCE Databases, selected Contacts Database - which I attached - and exported okay)
Meanwhile (on a remote island in the Pacific... =P) I found out, that both Contacts and Appointments are stored in the "pim.vol" in WM5.
(also attached that)
Well, let's just put'em in there then...
Khmmm... so... put-em-in... Nope. Not workin'.
Also I've been playing around with conveting the exported Contacts DB file into CSV (comma separated format) and importing to Outlook.
Annoying is, that I see the stuff what I need... but it's over 200 entries with 2-6 data each! (don't bother multiplying: it' a LOT)
Only problem was that there doesn't seem to be a recognisable logic in the order of the data... Once the email address is first and name is like 5th, then mobile number is first, etc...
Cannot import to Outlook.
PLEASE! I soooooo don't want to reinstall the PPC2003 again just to export the stuff into outlook and back again.
There MUST be somekind of solution. I feel I'm pretty close to the solution, but I'm just too tired to continue right now.
I'll also try attach as many as possible.
Thanks for any help in advance!
i have same problem...and im unlucky one cos...i upgrade my sx66 device from wm2003 to wm5 and can u imagine...after i upgrade my PC OS crushes down...so all my sync gone...so i have on storage backup files maked with permament save before...so im wandering can i pull them back somehow...i need my contacts (
Hello. I've checked the previous pages and didn't see anyone having the same question. That probably means i am the only one so dumb in here)))
Basically, last night i was playing with overclocking my XDA Orbit being insured that all the contacts are syncronized. At some point (273MHz) the device stopped responding so i had to soft reset it. Later i found that nothing got lost BUT my contact list with all the numbers. Next, I open Outlook and see that none of them were saved there. WTF is ActiveSync is doing then? And another problem is that i cannot use backup of my old WM2003 contact list because there is no such option as Backup/Restore in WM6. Any ideas? Please,HELP. I really need those numbers back...

The contacts in the Orbit are gone...
The contacts in the Outlook not sync'ed hence they too gone...
Cannot import 2003 backup into WM6 - different structure
Option 1 - if you have old outlook backup - you can re-import into new outlook file and they re-sync again
Option 2 - Manually enter all the numbers you remember
Option 3 - Nothing
Basically the fact is if you cannot see the contacts in the fone - they are gone! If you cannot see in outlook they are gone - only option is to get from another source!
You mentioned 2003 backup - what did you take the backup with? Maybe you can still read using the same software and try to retrieve the number - or use another 2003 model to import into it
The backup was taken using Backup/Restore feature of WM2003. But I really wonder now, WHY Microsoft decided not to include this option in WM6? If anything happens, you're properly f****d, like me now.
BTW, WM2003 Contact list backup can be accessed with Notepad, but the data looks a bit messy that way.

Am not in the same situation...was letting you know your options....
Good luck with the retrieval...
don't take it personally, i meant "You" in general
I analyzed the chain of events and it seems like i found the root of the problem. It's was nothing to do with overclocking or the device itself. Its ActiveSync. As I usually don't use Outlook, the contact list there was always empty. And this blessed child of Microsoft instead of copying contacts from XDA to Outlook did it other way round thus erasing everything on the phone. Don't know what to do, laugh or cry, but it's so... so... ridicilous!
Thanx for your help anyway, much appreciated
This is a culmination of my previous threads. I've realised I'm not going to get an answer to each of my current problems so I'm going to have to hard reset and start from scratch. Which is just what I needed.
Summary of my problems:
- Speed dial numbers tell me the number doesn't exist, but then calls it anyway
- Can't add new speed dial numbers
- Can't add new contacts full stop
- MSN doesn't work
- Can't sync contacts (or anything for that matter)
So I am going to hard reset - but my problem is I need a way to back up my contacts, I don't want to be manually typing in dozens upon dozens of names and numbers. I have tried PPCPimBackup, but this doesn't seem to back up those stored on my SIM (most of my contacts are on my SIM). I can't find a way to move my contacts to the phone from the SIM - "Save to contacts" in SIM Manager tells me it was successfully added, but it wasn't - there is no Outlook version of that contact.
What can I do about this? Is there a way I can back up my contacts, bearing in mind that syncing doesn't seem to copy them onto my computer and PPCPimBackup only seems to back up Outlook contacts? I do have an SPB Backup of my PIM stuff from when I was on WM5, but that's what has caused this problem, trying to restore it. I have tried searching these forums for other ways to back them up but it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Is there a program that can read PIM.vol?
What on earth should I do? Or is physically writing down all my 100+ contacts then typing them in (and losing all my stored SMS) my only option?
Device: O2 XDA Orbit, as out of the box in July, then upgraded to WM6 with the O2 official thing.
Computer: Vista Ultimate x32, Outlook 2007.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but surly if your numbers are on your SIM they shouldn't be effected by a hard reset.
If your worried take the sim out before you try it??
hard reset won't remove anything from your SIM
Outlook problem on my tilt with WM6.1
My phone seems to have dropped the ability to retrieve and view contacts in the normal way it used to.
How do I restore the function.
I was told I could remove and restore WM 6.1 from the phone to completely start over but nowhere can I find out how to do this.
Is there a way to restore the phone to default status and start over clean?
Any suggestions or links?
