When logged in, the forum shows less pages on a thread - About xda-developers.com

Hey guys. Great site. I'll just keep this short and to the point.
When I try to view the "SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 Theme / Skin Collections Thread" at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=389106 I see 217 pages of posts as of 8-27-08. Then, when I click "Log Out" and go back to that same thread, I see over 420 pages. Is this just a fluke or is vbulletin messing up?
Here is a screenshot of when I'm logged in:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And now, when logged out:
See the page count right below the right side of the gooogle ad? There are way more. Also, I *think* there is a whole different set of posts on each one. Page 219 logged in and page 219 logged out don't have the same posts on them.

It's because there is a setting for the number of posts on a page. The default is 10, Im guessing you have it set to 20. I have mine set to 20 and I get 217 pages.
You can edit the "Number of Posts to Show Per Page" setting in User CP under Edit Options (Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/profile.php?do=editoptions), about 2/3s down the page.

Haha! You're right. Duh.

And, sometimes people refer to which page of a thread a post is on... keep that setting in mind if you run into such a post that you're trying to follow!

Order of the Devices in the forenlist

Hello,
what do you think about a re-order of the devices in the forenlist? the newer htc devices are all at the end of the list and we have to scroll a lot? Maybe ist is possible to reorder it to the top of the list?
Rgds

I agree...better yet have user be able to decide which phones/devices appear when they are logged on.
This has been asked several times before...
First devies goes up and newer goes down, imagine changing the way it has been for years!
No way!, I like it just like it is now
Just my opinion,
While most people think reordering is a good idea. However I'm used to where everything is so please don't move it or you'll make me mad, along with a lot of other "ole timers."
This has been posted before.
And believe me guys...you don´t want to see JimmyMcGee or any other "ole timer" mad

If you really want the page re-ordered (and you use Firefox), you can hide the stuff you don't want with a plug-in called GreaseMonkey. It does take a small amount of scripting on your part- but, hey, why should the admins do all the work?
Greasemonkey basically runs scripts on pages as they load, which makes it possible to customize the way you see (and interact) with other people's websites.
If you're too lazy to do that, CTRL+F will save you a bit of scrolling.

How to disable "minor weather animation"

Hello everybody.
Is it possible to disable "minor weather animation", make it static picture?
To understand what I mean by "minor weather animation", look at picture bellow.

}
I have looked in the registry and still can find the answer. Also, I have searched here on xda with no success. Each thread I found was about full weather animation, which is not suitable in this case.
If you have any ideas, please post it here, may be I missed something.
UP! I would need it too!!
anyone have some ideas about that?
install Co0kie's Home Tab:

Click: Menu > Edit Home Layout > Advanced > Select 'Original flip clock without weather' from the first DropDownList
to a Mod: I joined a Year before, and this is my first Post, when trying to post a link I get the following Message:
To prevent spam to the forums, new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages. All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed.
This is ok, but the Message states that 'outside links' are blocked. My link isn't 'going outside', it links only another Forum thread (same domain), could this be a bug or misconfiguration?

Weird forum bug?

XDA logged me in as a different user
I clicked on my forum.xda-developers.com/usercp.php favorite and found myself looking at a bunch of threads I was unfamiliar with. In the upper right corner the XDA website said "Welcome, diegoms89." I assume I was looking at his/her subscribed threads.
When I clicked over to this forum to report the bug, it then said that I was logged in as me. Clicking on the User CP now gave me my subscribed threads.
I'm running Windows 8 and Google Chrome.
Well... this was weird...
Went into xda-developers
and noticed I was logged as another user, "hari...."
If I went into any topic I would be back to my account Tovagulet
Has anyone else had this problem?
And if you check his profile http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2370609
It says "Current Activity: Viewing Forum Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830"
and he last post was on may of 2012...

Was going through my PM's, refreshed the page, noticed I was logged into another users account that I've never seen on this forum, had Pm's in their box (couldn't, and didn't read them) that were not mine. Logged out, and logged back in, and everything seems fine. Really weird...
OMG! 1337 H4X0RZ! Ban him ^^^
1.Insert title as caption.
2.Win the internet.
Very strange. Moved to About XDA section.
Yep, was a glitch, all fixed now.

Issue with captchas as a new user - i have to eneter the google captchas always 2 tim

I am new to the xda community. I figured out, that i always have to enter the captcha two times. Its not the captcha itself that fails. When you complete the captcha and have the green check-sign and then press the submit button, i always get the first time "The string you entered for the image verification did not match what was displayed.". When i then complete the captcha a second time (have the second time the green check sign), then this issue is not there any more.
My cookies are clean. This happens also when you dont logout in the meantime and try to post a reply to two different forum posts. The issue is just always there.
From the site admin perspective it looks like there was a different captcha system before. Then the google captcha got build into the website and now it tries to read out data first time from something that does not exist any more.
EDIT: I did not have to enter the captcha two times when creating a new post(this one here). But i always have to enter it two times when i reply to a thread.
I recommend to use XEvil to solve most captchas — http://xevil.net/

THIS. How do I stop this? I've scanned my network, and installed the "Privacy Pass" addon and I'm STILL getting this stupid message.

There are some threads about this.
XDA is under constant attack from spammers and the like.
I believe this happens more often if you are editing long posts, try to avoid doing that.
XDA is moving to a different forum platform, soon like in a few days.
Some security measures may be relaxed after the change.

@GuyInDogSuit I know it doesn't help or will satisfy you but even I as a moderator occasionally get the captchas pending on my action. @sd_shadow explained the reasons well. And I apologise but I can't tell you how it will look like after the transition to Xenforo.
Yeah this usually happens when we try to edit very long posts. In the meantime of the transition to XenForo, a workaround to avoid captcha is to split long posts in 2 shorter posts, like explained here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/labs-t3241866/post83621087
