Install a DCD carrier cab and see if that fixes it.

I'd like to be able to enter my contacts on my XDA Orbit, 7-digit number only, and have it recognize these contacts when they call. My carrier passes the number (123)456-7890 to my phone as +11234567890,, so why can't my phone realize that that number is the same as 4567890 (in the same area code). This way, whenever I receive a phone call or text message, I'm not sure who it is. Is it a simple setting? Thanks. My past phones (mostly Nokias and Samsungs) have not had problems with this at all.

Maybe you can try this:
Contacts > Menu > Options..., you can see the Area CODE, just Clear it.
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I kept getting the 500 Internal Server Error when trying to access the site. Neither removing the area code, nor adding a 1, nor adding +1 works. Thanks for your help so far.

Mine was able to do it.....
I got mine up and running no problem.... only thing is now I dont need the voicemail Icon on the home screen anymore because it sends text notifications now
great service, but the voicemail to text needs some work yet I cant complain. works fine for me
Hey y'all so I really recommend checking out youmail, it's a voicemail client for your phone. And once you've checked it out, tell me if you're having the same problem i am. When I go to start > settings > phone > call options: and then try to change the voicemail default number (the number that my phone calls when I press and hold "1") I keep getting an error message saying that the settings could not be saved. However, on tmobile's end, they see the change, but still my phone just calls the regular voicemail number when I press and hold "1"... thoughts? Is there a registry hack somewhere just to make my phone call the correct number when I hold 1?
Thanks!

I wonder if you have to have your device "unlocked". I have changed my voicemail number to my main answering services vm and it works fine.
hmm
Well, I'm fairly certain that my phone is unlocked because I've modded it ALOT. Unless you mean SIM unlocked, in which case I don't think that it is.

I just signed up for YouMail a couple of days ago. Lovin' it. What I did was change my Speed Dial #5 to the YouMail voicemail number. My Speed Dial #1 is still for T-Mobile voicemail. After doing this, my calls get routed to my new YouMail number and not the T-Mo number anymore. It works pretty well for me. When I check the voicemails on the old T-Mo number, it only plays the old messages left before switching to YouMail.
Try using another Speed Dial number besides the #1. I think that one isn't changeable.
what does youmail offer that tmo voice mail doesnt?

YouMail allows you to set custom voicemails for multiple callers. It also allows you to use "Ditch Mail" for telemarketers, blocked callers, and unknown callers. Ditch Mail gives the caller a generic message stating that you aren't receiving calls from blocked or unknown callers and to try again from an unblocked number. Then (here's the clincher) it hangs up. You can also view and listen to voicemails via email. It's great.
Ive had it for a week, and love it! My friends get the silly VM messages... all else get the SMART VM where it states the name of the caller and says Im not available...
great stuff
not a bad solution but...
while changing my shortcut number five to the youmail number will be a nice shortcut to it, does that mean that if i use youmail, i'll neve get a "new voicemail" notification again? it's gonna use up a lot of texts if every vmail i get has to be announced via text message.
you can set it to only send you emails... I have a 300 txt msg plan... and didnt want to eat them up with youmail messages. SO, I set it accordingly.
hmm..
I totally understand that it is possible to do that, and if it comes down to it, I'm fine with that, however, I'd love it if youmail was more fully integrated with my phone. Ergo, if I could change the number for the voicemail system (which youmail says that you can) and receive vmail notifications, it'd be perfect. Does no one in this quite impressive community know where the registry edit would be to change that number? Thanks for all the help!
patiently awaits a response to the previous question.
Youmail offers the chance to have custom voicemail messages to specific callers...one for your love, one for your mom, one for your boss, etc... it will also transcribe voicemail messages and either txt them or email them to you! lots of other finer points... but thats a good overview

Is your service prepaid? If so, prepaid T-Mobile voicemail #s cannot be changed.
contracted
Nope,
I have a monthly plan, and even when I called the guys at tmo about this issue, they said that they can see my trying to change the number, and that it should be changing on my phone. I just need to find out where in the registry that phone finds that vmail number, and to change it. Thoughts?
Wow lol
I can't believe noone responded to you, bro. It's pretty easy. Do the following:
1) Settings
2) Phone
3) Call options
In there you will see Voice mail number, change it to youmail's #.
On the other hand, this service looks pretty promising. Thanks to you guys, I now know about it. I really hope it works in Canada too.
Will try right now
EDIT: Great, It doesn't work in Canada That sucks...Oh Well...One day I guess.
where?
sounds very impressive could someone provide a download link to this app?
The multiple voicemail responses and the voice to text of Youmail sound interesting and I will check it out after this post. Youmail looks better, just wish it had mobile call screening.
I use Callwave free version because it has mobile call screening which allows me to actually listen to the person leave a message in realtime and answer it or ignore it with one button.

never mind ive googled it thanks (GOD BLESS GOOGLE!)
Rooted Evo 4g, running CM7.
Hope someone can help out. Every time I try to make a call, a pop up occurs titled "Place Call" with a triangle and ! inside. Need to select either 'Cell phone call' or 'Internet call'.
I have Skype, and GV...but this occurs after those permissions. I've already set Dialer as default, and to not use GV...but then there's one last thing...this "Place Call".
When selecting Internet Call...it says: There are no internet calling accounts on this phone. Requests adding a SIP account.
I'd like to see how I can remove this option all-together. Any ideas? Thanks.
You have to change it in the website for GV
I looked at that. Two things showing GV is not "enabled", is not "active", on your phone.
Hi, everyone.
Did a search and didn't find a dedicated thread for this, so I thought I'd write one. I recently learned that Groove IP is shutting down d/t a change Google is making to their Voice. It appears that the change is going to disable pretty much all other similar voip apps. I figured this would impact T-Mobile $30/mo plan VOIP users the most, so I wanted to give you a headsup. You can read more about it here
It's a sad ending to a great setup, but all good things come to an end.
P.S. I also heard that Google's Hangouts will be able to make/receive calls soon (hopefully), so if it comes before May, we may be ok. iOS version of hangouts already has this feature, which is messed up.

thanks for the info

Yep. It's still working. There are many speculations as to why, but I guess only Google knows what's really going on.

Thanks for confirming, thought i was being very very lucky
Anyway, have you or anyone tried the new GrooVeIP v2.0.4 which gives you a new number via ring.to because of the pending Google termination?
I cant seem to get this new version to work for me.
Using Xperia SP, Android 4.3 and using 4g/LTE.
The problem i am having is that i can not make any calls, i keep getting the popup saying -
"Call failed
Please make sure your network is not set to IPv6 only. On mobile data this can be done by opening the android settings, pressing More under Data usage. Then Mobile Networks, then Access Point Names and pressing the selected Access Point. Scroll down and change APN Protocol and APN Roaming Protocol to IPv4 or IPv4/IPv6"
I checked my APN as above and both options was set to IPv4 anyway, so that is not the problem
However, when i revert back to the older GrooVeIP version that uses my GV number, it works ok, i can call out and i can receive calls no problems or complaints about IPv6 settings.
Any comments or solutions?

Did you try asking the GrooveIP's developer? They(he?) are pretty good at helping. In the past, I contacted them on 2 different occasions, and I got help pretty much instantly both times.
On a side note, Google is planning to add a call feature to hangouts app (already done for iPhone version), which will let you make and receive calls via hangouts. So, if I were you, I'd just wait for that instead of jumping on to a different setup.

Yeah will contact the GrooVe IP developers, it just that the few topics i read on the ring.to forum doesnt seem to point to a solution other than, doing what the popup said about IPv6 as above and on another a comment claiming that "Ring.to does not connect on 4G/LTE", which make no sense as the new GrooVeIP that is only now working with Ring.to clearly has an option that you tick to allow connection via 3g/4g, and also i can call using the old GrooVeIP app on 4g, so just thought that my friends at xda may have a working solution
Although i do not use Google Hangout, will see how it works on android once that is in place.
I could be mistaken, but I don't think IPv6 is available to us unless we have an LTE capable device.
