I've been playing around with all the WM6 rom for my trinity and found that just about all of them have a "battery drain" problem....
Anyone, anywhere has a soltion to this?
Thanks

Well try to keep your bluetooth active only when needed. same applies to wifi and gps.
Other than that some people have suggested that original radio is less power consuming so if you have upgraded it maybe you can consider going back to standard!!
For me the phone with periodical use of bluetooth, wifi, gps and about half an hour of talking time in calls, can last easily on two days!!!
The same
I have the same problem. For "steladamo": Of course I have a GPS, BT and WiFi turned off.
In such a circumstance my batery drains after one day whereas WM5 kept my battery alive for several days.
Any solution?
Is there any tool how to log system actions? I'd like to see what my WM do.
Thx!
Just upgraded to wm6, found out that the incoming beam (infrared) is turned on by default...and that is a power-user...no probs after I switched it off...
Have the same issue.
Infrared was turned on also in my case. Turned it off, let's see how long my device will last now.
Thnx anywayz.
How can you tell infrared is on or not?
By 3rd party tool?
do you try last radio 1.46.00.11 or 1.46.30.11 ?

Yea, how do you do that?
Settings --> Connections --> Beam
Or with the cab which allows to have 10 buttons in commanager
just flash 1.46 radio ...
same problems with both radio 1.41 and 1.46
wm6 and the battery lasts one day, without beam, wifi, or bluetooth on
Turned off infrared. Switched synchronize every X minutes to manual outside office hours. Made a lot of difference for me.
UMTS band ???
Go to settings and choose phone icon then go to the band tab don't use auto but just put it to gsm....utms eats power....
Where is the 10-button com cab?
Does that work with the ax3l rom?
I can confirm that the AX3L_WM6_WWE_v2.0.8.1 rom has had the battrey leaking problem resolved!
So if your not using this rom, flash it now!

I confirm that with heavy use I can still "drain" the battery every day.
Anyone has the CAB file for the Communication Manager with the IR Beam on/off button in an HTC Touch style ?
I can see that NBD has it in his Wizard ROM
Hi,
Did a quick assessment in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319278
Here it is for your convenience:
Here is a guide from my recent observation.
It is based on WM5 using BatterieStatus.cap, would be great if someone can do similar to WM6 in comparison.
I also used :
HTCustom1.7 to turn off HSDPA
Turned off Bluetooth and Infrared Beam
(I did discount short burst when app switching)
Idle, screen off = around 21mA
Idle, screen on, low brightness (3 notch from left) = around 62mA
As above, connected to 3G, No applications running using 3G = around 64mA
Active browsing, basic sites, 3G, around 300mA - 400mA
Active browsing, graphic intensive sites, 3G, around 400mA - 600mA
Active browsing, HSDPA on, basic site 500mA - 600mA
Passive browsing, IE open, no action, 3G, drops to 68mA
TomTom using inbuilt GPS, waiting for GPS lock, 180mA
Idle, screen on, low brightness, but 'Receive all incoming beams' (IRDA receive on) also 62mA!!!
Audio call, 3G, 350mA
Mediaplayer, streaming video from Internet, around 600mA.
I believe 600mA is around the ceiling.
Some calculations: Standard Batterie is 1600mAH.
So total idle/standby time is about 1600mAH/20mA = 80hours or 3.3 days
Total call time is 1600mAH/350mA = 4.3 hours approx
Total surf time is 1600mAH/400mA = 4 hours.
This lines up with my usage patterns, idle, screen off most of the day, usage about 30 mins browsing every day, batterie last about 2.5 days.
(Hobby engineer hehe)
Nice man!
And this does also fit into my calling pattern. I have to load my battery every evening, but I also call for about 2 hours per day. Use wireless mail/calander/contactsynchronization with outlook and Windows Live mail. And regular use of some other features.
So like i said in other posts, the drain issue has probably also to do with the expectation people have from the standbytime of their device on heavy usage.
facts.
US tmobile rom.
100 % battery at 8am from overnight charge.
used config 3.3 for all advized power savings.
no push internet, or anythign like that..weather etc..all basicaly stock.
no running programs..
connected on the EDGE network.
downloaded 5 emails, responded to 1
browsed opera for 5 minutes
used built in youtube to watch a 5 minute vid clip.
youtube vid clip took 30 minutes to download (due to edge speed)
back of phone very warm as if it were ON a charger
now i am at 75% bat life.
info says
0 standby time
0 talk
1 hour 20 min device usage (of which was only what i had above.)
can i get an opinion? or better yet, can someone do the EXACT same thing and if your at 75% after doing what i did?
i just dont feel right about it...it seems yesterday before i got advice about using my wireless... i tried edge today... and it seems to be identical as yesterday... maybe i feel this way because last week i noticed when i was charging in the car and at work via laptop... the charge light kept going out after 10 seconds and flickering even though it was around 70% full...kind of like i feel that i have 25% dead cells or something...
Hi there,
You might want to try this as i remeber reading this in a thread about the battery life of the tp 2. With adv config do not put the power saving settings on for the memory card as for some reason it uses more power.
However if you are not using a mem card then I am not sure.
Hope that helps
yes i did see that, treid both ways.. no change.
I spoke to tmobile yesterday and they are sending me a new battery.
today i turned the phone on at 100% and seen it drop 3 percent in 15 minutes reading 1 text message....
ill know if this is all solved possbily friday, if i get my new battery.
Hi again,
If it helps, still on stock Rom, not used advanced config to configure any power settings, prefer the manual approach of use the reg for anything I feel the need to change.
Been a slow day today with the Rhodium, but here's my stats for you.
Battery currently at 80%, not using the 1% tweak either.
9hrs 38 mins standby since last full charge (left in docking bay overnight)
6 minutes talk time
37 minutes device usage
16GB Sandisk card, HSPL, Stock Rom, Stock Radio, Tmob UK
Bluetooth allways on, though not always connected (Mainly HFP and A2DP usage for in car)
my advice, as posted before, do a hard reset, don't apply any tweaks at all and see how it goes.
I have installed a great deal of apps and quite a few reg enhancements (See my tweaks thread 90% of them are on my device)
manually set to GSM (constant bouncing from HSPDA in my location if not forced, which hammers my charge)
Installed apps,
SPB Mobile Shell & TF3D for UI
Exchange push mail active
TT7, Coreplayer, Skype, TCPMP, FMRadio, DOTFred Taskmanager,MAXTTM TF3D Config, WKTask, PIMBackup, PowerRadio, SPB Radio, SPB TV, MP3 Trimmer, MP3 Alarm, Beastmaster, VoiceCommand, and a *** load of games.
Are you using a wall charger to charge in the evenings or only USB?
How low do you let the device get before charging again.
Normally I would charge whenever possible, charges in the car cradle, charges when docked in the office.
However today I've let stay uncharged all day to monitor just for you mate
Cheers,
Beasty
THANKS.. that does give me some info..
im definatly going to get a new battery..
i will hard reset tonight...
you mention you dont use config 3 for your tweaks, you just go into the reg...
i was thinking that too.. this all seemed to start around the time i installed that program....( i did check the memory card powersave option)
tonight i will hard reset...and try what you do...
appreciate your help...
quick question, since im doing a hard reset and reloading my tmo rom back in to stock.... i read a post where someone said that if you cancle the "extra" instalations during this time, it wont load in the extra tmobile bloatware...
are you familiar with this?
I have also noticed if the notification lights goes blinking or maybe flickers, the battery is consumed more than its usual when it stays off. I do not know why....

Yes,
You used to be able to soft reset during auto config, however I had heard reports that this no longers works on the Rhodium.
Cheers,
Beasty
I noticed that processor intensive stuff like watching videos drains the battery quite fast. I was watching a 2 hour movie and the battery was down by about 50%. So battery killers I noticed so far are:
- Surfing on mobile data connection (just keeping it online but without data transfer seems to have little impact on battery life, so things like push mail or push internet shouldn't drain the battery that much).
- GPS
- Anything CPU / Graphic intensive like Videos, Navigation system.
No surprises here, actually. Apart from that, i have very decent battery life of about 3 days normal usage (little surfing, push mail, push internet, 10 minutes of calls per day and using a few apps (task tracker and a few games .
heres an update...
last night i did what beasty recomended... i hard reset.. installed only icons etc...stopped push internet...opera..etc...
the only thing i DIDNT reinstall was System congif 3.3..
i immediatly noticed a difference in LESS battery drain....
so far, i am leanign towards System config program does something that increases battery drain...
althogh there are a few settings in that program i would like to use, i am very hesitant on reinstalling it as it might cause a problem again...
heres a couple questions for all..
is there any way i can copy MY rom with all the settings programs icons, etc etc.to be able to flash my stuff back? Not just back up my stuff.. but everything i done..so if i ever had to hard reset, i would be hard reseting to MY settings and rom and not factory tmo rom?
also, if i were to install system config, and it changes settings...if i were to UNINSTALL sys config, do all the settings now go back to what they were before i installed it?
i would like to try and confirm it was sys config causing problems, but dont want to have to hard reset all over again...
Uninstalling Advanced Config will NOT revert settings.
Look into UC, most cooked Roms are UC compliant now thanks to Sleuth's code, see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337
and
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=AutoRun
Once you understand UC, you can create your own customisations, apps list to install etc etc, this way each time you flash a Rom, or hardreset all your apps and configs are applied automatically by UC.
Hope that helps,
ps, advanced config is not currently listed as supporting the Rhodium
Cheers,
Beasty
yes that helps ALOT!
thank you..
i will see if i can understand UC... maybe if so then it would help me greatly...
i will stay away from advance config...
thanks for all your help... im currently learning about my TP2 while learning how to rebuild my clutch on my Ninja...lol...

Rebuilt many a bike, I think every rider should, gives you a much better understanding and appreciation for your machine, especially when your getting close too the 200MPH mark round the track, who better to trust than yourslef, knowing that you put every single nut and bolt in there.
Great fun, I once burnt a whole through two pistons at 180 (fortunately down the straight)
Seems we share a few similar hobbies mate, good luck with both.
The Wiki is always a good place to start on here when learning things.

both are a great help from people like you... i just finished replacing my fork seal... but its still leaking.. ill have to look very close on second repair.. must be some sort of scratch... the best was when i using my TP2 to view the repair manual as i was working on it!!
Ok I've had my desire now for couple if weeks. I've read many many posts regarding battery issues so please bear with me.
I've come from iPhone 3gs and estimate my battery is seeing 25 percent less capability.
There are it appears many settings for internet connection. (Always enabled, auto sync, background sync, connect to internet, then individual settings for certain apps when they wanna sync. And then WiFi settings. What I'm after is to kill the internet completely when my phone is not in use, (this is regretable but have to save battery).
What I want is to kill the internet completely when the phone is not in use. No background, no sending hunting for signal etc. Then in one click I wanna connect. AND have the apps sync that I want synced. And have full internet etc. Then in ONE click shut internet off compleley. Is the best way to do this, by setting up your auto sync and background to be always on. Background always on, everything always on or connected, then hold the power button to wake the phone but hold it till you get menu and then select connect to internet from one of the options. Then when I pit the phone down, hold power key, then select disconnect from internet. Will this work and kill my internet connection 100 percent? And get everything synchronized when I turn it on?
Not interested in juice defender, read some bad stories (aswell as good)
Thanks.
Long press the power button, click 'Mobile network' to toggle it on or off.
I use this settings when in work as I have a very poor 3G/H signal in my office, other wise the 3G/H singal drops and connects like a yo-yo all day long draining my battery like crazy! I turn it back on when I'm leaving work. This way I still get calls/texts while in work and I'm sitting at my computer for my internet.
JuiceDefender (even the free version) is working wonders for my battery life. The basic version forces your mobile Internet connectivity to only turn on for 1 minute for every 15...amazing what difference this makes.
I've been using it for the last three days or so in basic mode, and my multiplier is already over x2.
The only downsides I've found are that the 3G/HSDPA is a little slow at "waking up" if I want to use it if JuiceDefender has previously turned it off...I have to have the screen turned on for about 20 secs before a connection initiates - it's a relatively small price to pay, however.
As a rule, I have auto-syncing turned off during office hours since I'm in front of my PC at these times, so don't need to have GMail, NewsRob, Weather, Facebook, Twitter etc. updating on the phone. I turn syncing back on just before I leave the office - and there is plenty of stuff then synced up ready for me to look at whilst on the train home. I leave syncing on for the rest of the night whilst I have WiFi on the phone - and this seems to draw *far* less battery than when 3G/HSDPA is constantly on.
With this routine, I'm easily getting 24 hours out of the phone now...
The real battery killer is when you're using Internet-enabled services in a patchy area. The battery drains away extremely rapidly I've found. In can easily lose up to 40% whilst on the train home (which takes no more than 1hr 20mins) whilst I'm trying to use the Internet etc. as it is constantly cycling between cells moving between G-3G-HSDPA...

I'll agree with everything rodhull says, especially the lag after switching the screen on. But I know the developer is working hard to resolve this and other issues. JD looks like it will very shortly be an excellent solution to this, which is really an HTC problem - they should have provided a better battery!
I got my Desire a week ago and the first two days it drained in no time.
Today i have used the phone for playing, surfing, talking, mail, used wifi and gps . and I still have 48% left on the Battery.
Time since last charge is 16 hours and 4 minutes.
I am not doing anything special to preserve the battery

Me too, when at home my battery uses about 1-2% per hour with everything syncing and stuff. When at work, it's 6-8% per hour and it's switching between 3G and 2g the entire day. This seems to have a very big influence on battery life.
Hi All.. Just visiting from the X10 pages.. we're having similar battery issues over there too... suspect that these "super smartphones" are really battery killers... A lot of people on the X10 seem to be getting much better battery life now - I got c.40 hours out of mine earlier this week - with wifi usage - no BT and no GPS... There seems to be a few useful things you can try.. first of all - most people have now ditched Juice Defender.. concluding that it doesn't actually help at all.. if anything I reckon it was using more juice..
Wifi sleep policy - set one.. !
Switch data services off when you don't need them (when asleep etc).
Specifying just 2G/ GPRS when in a weak 3G area..
install task manager or ATK to kill apps that run in the background.. sucking up juice!
Hope this helps some!
just got juice defender ultimate, as it seems to do a good job of making my battery last longer....but there are so many settings, i'm getting confused.
I basicaly just want the best settings that will disable all internet to save battery, except for once every hour when my i want the phone to run the "autosync" process to sync my facebook, twitter, emails etc. i alsao want it to obviously allow me to connect to the internet if i manually start an app which needs it (internet browser, facebook app, peep, etc).
at first, the app seemed to be doing this, but now i'm finding that although it's doing a great job of saving battery, it's not syncing, and my internet connection doesn't come on when i open an app. (or occasionally, it will come on, then not turn off again until i manually tell it to.....which defeats the whole point of having jhuice defender...i got it so that the phone would automate this process).
any help greatly appreciated...
totally given up on these battery saving apps now. they all seem to do the same thing...
they work exactly as they should for a couple of hours (i.e. they cut out internet except when syncing or when needed for an app etc)...then they suddenly jsut stop working, cause my internet connection to be lost completely, and i can't get it back until I reboot my phone (losing temp root i might add, so having to go through that whole process again too).
i think i'm going to just suck it up and charge the thing every day...i bought an "extended battery" which is supposedly 2430mah (around twice the stock battery), but it doesn't seem to give twice as much performance....it just seems to slow down the battery drain slightly for the first half of the cycle....
i.e. it lasts for around 2 hours without going below 90%, then within the next 2 hours it will drop to 70%, within the next 2 hours to 50%, the next to around 20%, then finally dying within the next 2.....
this is with syncing on, occcasional text or email checking etc.
so i'm getting around 10 hours use instead of around 7 or 8. it's better, but it's far from being twice the capacity.
but anyways, yeh, battery saving apps jsut seem to kill my internet requiring reboot, so i'm gonna just manually cut internet at various stages through the day from now on, and keep charging every night? sound like a plan?

ok, i'll give the free version a try...but i'm not holding out much hope, i've tried so many of these battery saver apps now, they al result in my internet connection being totally screwed up until i reboot the phone.
The default settings are pretty good. I don't think I changed much in the way of settings. Your phone will save a lot of power throughout the night with this.
thanks! finally, a battery saver that actually works!
been trialing this today and so far so good.
7 and a half hour shift at work today, it's been syncing every hour (which i know has been working, cos on my break i had tweets and emails waiting, and again when me shift ended)...sent a few texts in the morning, on lunch and after work too. so far it's down to around 83% battery....
The important thing is that it hasn't destroyed my internet connection (touch wood). It switches it off until i unlock the screen, except when it periodically turns on to allow the syncing. It also knows when I am at home and will use my wifi instead of mobile internet.
I'm going to keep trialing it for a few days to make sure it definately doesn't crash my internet after a while like the other programs seem to. So far so good though. If it keeps working, i'll buy premium for the night mode feature. Save even more battery that way.
thanks again, very happy
No problem. Glad it worked out for you.
Green Power is no longer working at night mode....switching WiFi and mobile networks works still, but it doesn't seem able to switch to airplane mode. This is only since I rooted, but I'm on stock Rom and this appears to be the only problem now.
::EDIT::
apparently, someone else on their forums have the same issue, and it's a known bug, something to do with green power being "paused" then "resumed". weird how it's never done it before though :s
have uninstalled it and reinstalled, so hopefully that will sort it out :S
::EDIT::
worked perfectly last night, so it must have been a one off glitch :s
Hello everyone,
Would like to raise a matter about the battery life.
I have updated tostock 4.2.2 recently, I have noticed recently that the battery life is being awkward the least. The device can hold up to 4 days ideal but when I start using it the battery percentage dives rapidely it can go down in 20% if the screen is on for 10 minutes. Did anyone experience this and know how to go around it? Im really troubled as it wasnt like this in 4.1.2 it could hold up to 5 hours of screen now it can barely keep with 2-3 hours!

My charge and battery drain thread is here somewhere...
You can look in settings, battery... let us know what is tops on the list.
Also look at settings, data... let us know what is tops as well.
Note: Most of the time the trouble is with google music player, this years update sux with 4.2.2. If you have 4.1.1 it is no problem.
4.2.2 also does not like media files with odd names and characters. I had to rename all my music files to 2 digit numbers, for the media to stop indexing. Folders don't seem to be the issue, just the files. I get 3% per 12 hours discharge with wifi on while sleeping disconnected from charger, and about 10% per hour under a mix use. Thus able to have 8 hours before charging. I can possibly get a week out of the tablet having sync off, power saver enabled, and Wifi off when disconnected from battery in sleep.

use power saving mode, and download Advanced task killer. Kill all apps running in the background whenever u are done or not using the tablet. and clear your "Recent applications". that should increase the battery life significantly
Same here on videos

Hi guys,
I will search your thread cause I have this huge battery drain problem too.
I'm on 4.2.2 for long now but for 1 or 2 months now, my battery drains very rapidly when I'm watching movies or series ... I can use the samsung player or MX player it's just the same ...
When I'm 100%, i loose more than 10 % in 15 minutes of watching ... in fact my train travel in the morning is 30 minutes, and If i'm watching a movie, during the trip I loose nearly 30 % !!!
The thing is when I'm playing games or do something else, there is no such drain ... and as you I get only approx 3% or 4% per 12 hours discharge with wifi on while sleeping ...
This drives me crazy ...
At 56% at 3:00 pm today (I'm french), since a discharge at 6:00 am, my batteries info from parameters are :
Screen : 39 %
Network / Radio function : 33% (what is this ?)
MX player : 16 %
Sleep mode : 3 %
And the rest is under 2 or 3 % ...
For example, I watch a movie for only 30minutes today and played Zombie Tsunami for approx 20 minutes wich only drains 2% on the battery monitor ...

I wonder if your using data connection instead of Wifi...Data would draw more power when used, that is probably why you see Network/Radio about as high as screen. I have MX player pro as well so it is not an issue with MX player.
When I watch Netflix I get about 12% an hour drain with Miracast activated. As for playing video files on SD, it can be a lot lower to a lot higher depending on size and bit rate. Remember media playback has a number of things going on, speaker / earphones, video quality, and screen brightness will draw power at higher levels. I suggest doing a test with BBC iplayer for streaming when at home since your in France. Watch about 30 minutes with power saver enabled. You should get about 5% drain at most for the 30 minute test. If you are doing that, I would think the Data connection would be your primary issue with power drain. A way you can boost battery while watching video when traveling, you can purchase an external rechargeable battery. Both Data and GPS will suck the power right out of your device much faster than WIFI and there are a few battery calibration apps that use GPS to quick discharge for faster calibration.
Hope this helps in understanding.
I've got a similar issue.
I've seen a change recently, because the battery lasts much shorter now than only a few weeks ago. I suspect it could have to do with having run the battery too low (below 20%) a couple of times, specially with my kid playing games or watching Youtube on it. 49% of consumption is the screen, 27% is Android OS, Skype 11%. I haven't installed any new apps in that tim, although I updated Skype to a well functioning version (4.6.0.42007), but with it consuming 11% of total energy, I doubt that being the culprit. I haven't change the energy conservation setting (it's turned off), so it's not that either. On the other hand I turned on Playstore apps updating recently, and that might have something to do with it.
Today the Note even went dead, I didn't notice any battery alert. Is there a way to turn a SOUND on for this. Can't seem to find it. However, the Samsung UI keeps making little ringing noises with every received mail, right up to the device shutting off (sound on message alert is turned off). Any way to turn that off?

Ah, wow! I always have my screen much higher than any app with battery consumption. I use Dolphin browser for Youtube video while browsing with flash enabled and flash.apk installed as well. I prefer the youtube app for links to youtube from emails.
As for sound, it depends on the app that sends notifications. I just block the device most of the time. Though google has options to use default notifications sometimes it can get confused when you set your devices notifications to silent. Then you must change googles notification to silent as well. I think you do that in language and input in one of the google settings for TTS or Voice. It is really a pain but then again that is why I just block and leave things be. Block is in the Notification panel. you can open the complete switch panel by choosing the squares in the upper right.
When your device hit 100%, unplug your device, turn it off and put it into the power socket. Does it say the charge is 100% or does it take another half an hour before it say 100%?
If that's the case you have a battery calibration problem. The software thinks it's fully charged when the battery is only half charged.

I am sorry to say this... but I have had my own issues with power, and that is why I made a thread about such issues.
What you describe is almost what all OEM Note 8.0 devices do. It will show charging again once you have reconnected power after charging.
It has nothing to do with calibration needed to the battery. I have done this many times with Stock and Civato's ROM. If you do not want the issue with Touchwiz DVFS, download an app to disable it. Then you will not see that sort of issue any more. I do not recommend using tools of any sort to circumvent normal operation, but many have disabled DVFS without ill effects so they have a more accurate view of charge capacity.
Nobody here, including me can tell you what is going on directly with your battery without seeing critical information. If anything post the top battery eaters before you charge. This way we can see what is happening. For the most part media seems to be the issue. As google music player will run in background as Media Server no matter how many times you reboot it will try to re index media files over and over. I froze my Google Music player so the issue is non-existent
Another issue is USB charging cables. Samsung cables are not that good. I moved on to Sony / Nokia cables as they are superior cables and a wee longer to boot.

Thank you for the reply. Regarding sound, I thought it was Samsung's @mail inbox app, but it was Microsoft's Exchange. So that is now on silent. Didn't have any effect (!). Under Settings --> Personal --> Google, sound is also set to silent (!!).
Under Language I found Language, Keyboard, Speech and Mouse pointer, and sound for key press could be disabled (it already was).
The Unit's system sounds for ringing and messages have been on silent the whole time (!!!). Still not getting rid of it.
The low energy alert, I don't know whether that is Google or Samsung's Touchwiz. I have sound (I would like to get an auditory warning)? If so, where would that be? It seems I've been through all the settings, but since I haven't been able to turn off the sound alert for incoming mail, or turn off the auditory alarm for low energy, there probably are other settings I've missed.
Come to think of it, this subject would probably would go better under a different thread.
Thank you for your assistance.

Just search on google play for DVFS... you will need to be rooted.... I like saferoot.zip, and to install xposed framework. Most gamers prefer to disable, but it does wonders for true battery reading and charging.
