Help! I have an XDA IIs which was working fine for the last two years. It has a 1GB SD Card in there. I used it for TomTom all this time, with no problems at all.
A couple of days ago, I forgot to grab my device from the car as I was in a rush and I left it in the car (powered off, but with TomTom running) most of the day.
When I got back in the car, TomTom wasn't working right so I closed it and tried to re-open it, whereupon I received the nasty message "Cannot determine location of data".
To put it simply, the device no longer recognises the presence of an SD Card! It's not in File Explorer, nor under Settings / Memory / Storage Card.
What is going on?
Here's a list of what I've tried already (none of these ideas has solved the issue):
o Tried a different SD Card
o Tried a soft reset on the device
o Tried a hard-reset on the device
o After hard-reset, tried a restore from a recent Active Sync backup-to-PC.
o Downloaded PocketPC Mechanic and played around A LITTLE (didn't do anything that seemed dangerous like defragging, registry cleaning, etc)
Any help will be VERY gratefully received!
Thanks
Matt
Update... but still have problem
Quick update
I also tried formatting the SD Card. No help (I have since copied all data back onto the card and it still doesn't work).

Apparently, the motherboard your device is dies slowly.
Have you tried a diifferent sd card? reinstalling the software all over again?
Replying to Rafa1215
Yes, I have tried a different SD Card (as noted in the original post, list of things I have tried). It's a 128MB one which works fine in the SD Card reader slot on my PC (my main 1GB card works fine in PC slot as well).
Here's a further titbit of information which may or may not be useful in helping me:
I've tried several times to restore the backup-to-PC I made at the end of April (essentially the same stuff on the device then as now, luckily). Normally, when you insert (or remove) the card, it turns the screen on. Each time I perform the restore (of the same backup, over and over again), the SD Card slot actually performs this function when I insert the card again - but ONLY ONCE each time I restore from backup.
As for reinstalling software all over again... I have performed a hard-reset on the device, and tried the card as soon as it is ready to use... no luck there either.
In reply to vovaxxxx:
Is that a serious comment? The motherboard slowly dies? If that's true then this device is fit for nothing but the rubbish bin!
More ideas are welcome please, I thank you for the feedback!!
If you're luck enough to have a friend that have a BA you could test his sd card on your BA and your sd card on his BA. If his BA can read your card and yours can't read his then you have 2 situations:
1) Your sd card slot is dirty or slightly melted so you have no good contacts, try to clean it.
2) Time to buy a new phone or try to buy a new circuit board for your phone but for the price I think is better you get a new phone.
Edit: If you have $100 you can get a new circuit board here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310283
search google for panasonic sd formatter or something like this, this is a lil program which is used to format your SD properly. Insert your SD card into the card reader, start the program and reformat the SD card.
The problem is within the SD card file system

If that doesn't work try
Storage Tools by softwinter.com
You can at least do a Scandisk and fix any errors during the scan
OK I formatted the SD card with the Panasonic formatting utility. (Backed everything up to the PC first, from the card!)
Still no difference. To reiterate - the SD Card(s) I am trying to use are working fine in my PC's SD Card reading slot.
I think it's the hardware (i.e. the XDA itself)... LGSilva says I could try cleaning the contacts. Any recommended ways on doing this? The slot is too small to get any kind of decent cleaning implement in there, and I can't dismantle the device because it's held together with special screws (6-pointed-star-shaped heads).
Hi
the company i work for has around 300 device and this happens every now and again. not sure if this will help but normally call our mobile network and get a replacement. it's normally the card reader in the device.

The screws are size 6 Torx bits, suitable sets of these drivers can be bought from Maplins in the UK, although you don't mention where you are located.
There is also a guide to taking the BA to bits in the WiKi and a very comprehensive one containing pictures etc. at the bottom of the WiKi page, well worth reading both before you try taking it to bits - Mike
Guys. need some help here. I had some SD Card problem tonight totally out of blue.
Here is what happened. my evo was sleeping during last few hours, I tried to turn on screen by hit the power button mins ago. All buttons are lighted, but not screen. I was out of ideas but took off the battery, and reboot the evo. After reboot, there was one icon on the notification bar, "you can safely remove your sd card", I felt so strange, also, I cannot find lots of apps in the menu. I started to worry either my evo or the sd card itself.
So I had another sdcard installed into evo. Fortunately, I can mount it with usb cable, also save/delete files on that sd card. So I believe it's my original 8gb sd card problem. I m thinking to fix it by formating or so. So, by adaptor, i connected it to my pc(win7), the bad thing is my system cannot recognize the sd card, there is even no new drive showing up(i did test on another sd card, when i hooked it up with the same adaptor, new drive popping up in the my computer).
okay, guys, is there any one met such situation before? any way to diagnose and fix the issue? I do really appreciate.
I've had my G3 for over 3 months now without any issues whatshowever. Only recently did I get the popup "SD card unexpectedly removed", after this it kept on doing it every 5 minutes or so, wether it's locked or unlocked.
I've already tried reflashing my current rom (Latest Cloudy) and flashing a different rom (AndroidHD&CM). Nothing seems to work. Could this be hardware related?
I do have the same problem, the device can't find my external sd card altough is try to mount it, it just says SD card inserted but i can't find the card in on my file explorer.
Any idea what i'm doing wrong?
Ive been experiencing something similar here's my experience with SD card unmounting by itself:
I have completely stock LG G3 D852 on Kitkat 4.4.2. The problem is this: At random times I will wake my phone up to discover a notification that the SD card has been unmounted. Physically the SD Card is secure and has not been moved or shaken at all.
I will then attempt to go to 'settings' and mount the SD card. At this point the phone notifies that the SD card cannot be mounted or cannot be read.
I have found that by simply restarting the phone, the SD card goes right back to normal with all files fully readable as if nothing ever happened.
The SD Card is a Kingston Ultimate 64GB (Class 10 UHS-I) microSDXC Card, Up to 90MB/s read, 45MB/s write (SDCA10/64GB) which was placed in the phone brand new about the same time the phone was also new and formatted immediately in the LG G3. It has been in use for a little less than three weeks.
Same problem here. I am using a 128GB class 10 SDcard. The card works flawlessy in the laptop PC. I can not find any pattern, it seems to be random. I first thought it was related to overheating, but I had the same issue even when the phone is not hot.
Hi guys. I've same issue and as Oki said, it doesn't have any pattern. But I noticed that it happens just as an app read or write from/to storage. I tried almost any solutions:
Low level format
Cleaning gold connectors with alcohol
Insert sd when phone is off.
Reset to factory.
Changing rom.
I also tried other sd on my phone and still no success. Any sd fails after some minutes
I use my LG G3 with Android 4.4.2 (Stock firmware V10j with purpledrake root. Standard recovery) since 2 years without any problem with my sd card (32Gb class 10 by Samsung).
Some days ago, I installed link2sd beacuse I want to set some app as system-app.
As soon I installed link2sd I noted that my microsd was unmounted from phone.
So I didn't made anythings and I removed link2sd.
After that I continued to see my microsd mounted and unmounted itself.
To solve
I tryed to format sd (first using SDformatter v.4; then using windows fat32; then using minitool partition wizard; then in ntfs using windows following using phone to erase sd);
I buyed a new sd (32Gb class 10 by Verbatim);
I restored firmware to stock v10j, then v20n, then v30n, then v10n (I need Android 4.4.2);
I make root again with purpledrake;
I tryed to reinstall link2sd and complete its configuration with dual partition on sd (using an old 2Gb class 4);
I removed link2sd again...
During all this actions, all three sd cards unmounting then mounting continuosly!
Can you help me to solve?
Thanks.
I'm pretty sure I have mine fixed. If you remove the card and look into the slot you'll see the row of contact pins across the bottom. If you look carefully you'll find another pin running sideways under that row of pins. It comes from the left side and bends toward the bottom of one of those pins toward the middle of the row. It looks like the sideways pin gets contacted by the pin above it when a card is inserted. I took a fine tweezers and bent it up a bit. I also cleaned that point with contact cleaner. The problem is gone so far. Hopefully it's permanent.
Have to do this to post

Do u disassemble the top part of the phone before doing that? Because my G3 is suddenly doing this for a few days and i almost can't find a solution and i might try this since i saw the sideways pin on my sd card slot but I'm still not sure how to properly doing it. I just don't want to permanently ruined my sd card slot?
If I remember correctly you don't. But it didn't fix the problem for me. I finally got rid of the G3 and bought a Samsung.
Hi all,
Something strange happened yesterday. Everything was working perfect when both the SIM cards started to deactivate and reactivate on my phone. I was on official LOS 15 and everything was so perfect.
These are the things i have tried so far -
- As its obvious i thought its a ROM issue so reflashed stock S251 from TWRP, but hard luck, the SIMS kept deactivating and reactivating here as well.
- I used fastboot adb method to reflash stock MM on my phone. Successfully flashed, network seemed OK for a while. But then it started the same thing again.
- I used fastboot adb method to reflash official S244, same thing ...
- I have tried to use 1 SIM at a time, swapped SIM slots.. same thing..
- Both SIMS have proper IMEI, Both SIMS can be used to make a call, Everything is good except that SIMS keeps activating and deactivating every 5 to 10 seconds.
If anyone has a suggestion in this regards, help would be highly appreciated.
Update *
I just reflashed MM stock using fastboot adb commands, Followed by installation of all updates via OTA till i was on S251.
Still the same issue remains. Both the SIM cards get deactivated for just a fraction of a second and then reactivate. This thing goes in loop and taking its toll on battery and my cellular connectivity.
Any suggestions or help guys ?
Ok.. Never mind people. I managed to fix it. All good now.

Instead of letting people know you managed to fix it you should rather explain how you managed to fix it. That would be more helpful to the community and anyone who faces this particular problem in the future.

First backup your data on the pc
Then maybe you should try formatting your SD card
I once had a persistent icon for SD card and did the same

Thank you Avnish for your reply.
I have formatted my sd card afew times in the phone it self and also on pc . the phone i still get the sd card icon at the left hand side and notifications just when i open from sleep phone or restart.
i can format the sc card to internal storage and then it goes away but when i take pictures etc or apps it all gets saved to my internal storage on the Phone not the sd card. Also ive been into Camera settings to save on sd card and it is not there sd card if i format to internal storage. But if i format it on phone to portable storage the phone see's it as a external storage and i can save pics and apps etc to sd card but i get the icon and notifications. I wonder if this is a bug on the firmware. Paul

If it's a software bug then it sure is a strange one. Have you tried a different sd card in the phone? And using this SD card in a different phone? Do you get the same results in both the cases?

Hi everyone,
I just saw, that the sd card tray on my new HTC 10 is not completely flush.
It just happened after I opened the slot for the first time.
I already tried to put it back in several times (with and without a sd card)...
Does anyone experienced the same issue?
Is there any way to fix this or do I have to send it back?
Thanks 4 ur help
