How about a device-independent "Tutorial" subboard in Genral? - About xda-developers.com

Hello,
there are so much tutorials in specific device boards. Couldnt we make a point for general tutorials that you didnt have to search trough 20 boards?

Instead of looking through the boards, look through this http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php

Copy existing ROM

I have searched and searched and must be using the wrong search terms so can't find out what I want to know.
How can you make a backup of your existing ROM before attempting any upgrades/modifications?
Assuming you don't brick your device entirely this at least gives the option to return to whatever 'stock' for your particular unit is.
In my case I'm looking to make a backup up of a Magician and a Hermes.
So am I just blind or is this harder that it seems?

Where are the ROMs?

Hi!
It´s a long time ago ,i was here last time. And now i wanted to finally upgrade my MDA Compact to Bigstorage-ROM, but can´t find the ROMs here anymore. I´ve read so far, that xda-developers was forced to take them from their servers. But where can i get them now from. Any hints?
Greetings, flipsns

ok, obviously the forum is not very newbie friendly, but i can understand that it can be annoying. so please answer me just one more question, since i searched here a lot, but couldn´t find the files i am searching for: do you guys mean i can find the rom(s) as an attachement or that i have to search for links in the threats that will direct me to the proper file(s)?
and just for interest: what is a WWE-ROM?

WWE = World Wide English
since ms got the site to remove most of the unofficial roms on the ftp site
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site
but there are still sometimes some roms under uploads
roms have been put as links in posts
links to various file sharing services

Where are the HOW-TOs?

I'm a frequent XDA member on the Kaiser forum and there is tons of info there.
I just picked up a Verizon xv6900 but this forum has nothing easy to find
Where are the HOW-TO stickies
Looking for info on...
backup the stock rom
unlock the CID
flashing custom roms
Can anyone create some stickies, at least with links to this info?
Try here - this was a link to tons of info and tips and tricks - guids etc... on the vogue - It is in the WIKI.

I appreciate trying to help though that wiki page has nearly nothing in it but specs and a few info links... no a single thing that answers any of my questions.

Sorry about that. I have the touch elf and there is a lot more information for the elf section. I didn't even look to see what was in the Vogue area since I don't have a Vogue. I just assumed it would be as comprehensive.

[Q] [REQ] How-to tutorial on building Android from google sources?

Hi.
I'm interested in building Android from Google sources and dropping in one the custom kernels available.
Problem is, I can't find any tutorials (or at least any valid links) to guides of this sort.
Can anyone help?
Ben

Newbie just wants bloat wear off

I'm new to the forums and am interested in learning how to root my specific phone (mix 2) using my desk top. I have been browsing the forums and can't seem to find it. A link or anything really pointing me in the right direction would be nice. Also when I see stuff like this %USERPROFILE%\adb-fastboot on the linage os guide I find my self lost. And that's just the part where I'm getting my PC set up.
Help will be greatly appreciated!
I'm ready to learn!
Definitely read through the /r/xiaomi wiki, a lot of basic knowledge is covered in there. https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/wiki/index
