Default media player won't change - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I am trying to change my default media player from WMP to Audio Manager.
I have made the changes in Schaps Advanced Config and in EmuNutz HTC Home Customiser.
I've scanned my registry to find anything that looks remotely like a rogue entry, but found nothing.
Am I going mad, stupid or both?
When I play .mp3s via RSS Hub, they pull up WMP every time. File manager shows .mp3 files with WMP icons and starts up WMP when double-clicked.
What am I missing?
I have flashed with 2 of CRC's ROMs, PDCorner's, and now even gone back to good old Randomise's. Problem still persists. Checked out my SD card for rubbish and can't find anything.
Does flashing re-write the whole registry, or could some "rubbish" be left in there?
Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

Reassigning MP3s as default to windows media player

I installed a program and removed it (cant remember what it is now) that played mp3s as default.
Now my mp3s dont have a default option to play and I get the message 'system cant find the specified file'
Is there a way for me to get windows media player to play the files automatically.
Thanks
Hello,
I had the same problem, and moreover I was not able to use MP3 ringtones any more (does this also apply to you?). For me it was sufficient to add one key into the registry (I used Total Commander for it): Assign the value "MP3File" (without quotes) to HKCR/.mp3/default
Good Luck!
Thanks
Thanks,
I will give this a try and hope it works.
I have still been able to use my mp3s as ringtones but searching them in file explorer takes ages. They still also work in photo contacts only windows media player has the problem.

Orb with TCPMP, WMP and the 8525

Hey everyone,
I've tried searching for this in all the forums, but couldn't find a solution, so if it's already been discussed, I apologize, please just direct me to its location.
I'm trying to access my orb media from my AT&T 8525, but have been having some issues. Currently, the only way I am able to stream a playlist or a shuffle of songs is by using the real media player format within the settings in orb from the IE browser. The problem with this is, it doesn't allow for me to jump to the next track, if I didn't want to listen to the current one. So I have tried to use the Windows Media Player format in the settings, and I have ran the test.orb.com, and it plays the test file correctly. But when I try to use that format to stream to my phone, I get the error message "Could not open URL" (if I try to use TCPMP media player), or "Cannot play any items in the playlist." (if I try to use Windows Media Player as the default player). Again, when I run the tests (with either Media Player) using the Windows Media streaming format, the files play perfectly, but they just don't work when I try to listen to a list of music from my media. I've also tried adding the codecs (wma and wmv encoders) as mentioned in another forum, but that didn't help any.
Any and all help is always greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Click to collapse
Try this version of TCPMP and the attached files need to be copied in the program folder after installation. Lastly go in and click all applicable file associations inside TCPMP (only one i leave unchecked is MP3)after the installation and do a soft reset. Try ORB again and it should work! Works great for me and this was a real problem for awhile. but, just found the solution and can't remember where.
Yessssssssssssssssssssss!
OMG you people are a freakin GODSEND. I LOVE ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! (In a manly sorta way ) But no seriously, I've spent over 4 hours trying to get this to work and it finally did (by doing what was mentioned above)!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank all of you so much for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm donating as soon as I get some money... lol. Thanks again everyone.
Ok so I've moved to the Kaiser (instead of the Hermes), and TCPMP was working fine in the beginning. And now, all of a sudden it stopped working. I tried a soft reset, reassigning the file associations, changing orb's settings to a different media type, and reinstalling TCPMP and the .dll's included above, but I keep getting that same "Could not open URL!" message. This has become extremely frustrating. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please help. If not, is there any other comparable media player that would work with Orb that I could try? Any and all help again is greatly appreciated. Thanks again everyone.
thanks for the props above. but, i dont own a kaiser, so i really couldn't tell you. but, i would of course suggest looking in the kaiser forums and someone there has to have it figured out.

Changing HTC Home audio handler

Is there a way to change the default audio handle on HTC Home? I'm using a small add on to change it to HTC Audio Manager but it doesn't seem to work, probably because the audio manager is installed on SD.
Is there a reg key for this?
Thanks!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Music Plug-In
"1" = Windows Media Player
"2" = Audio Manager
Not sure if it will cause the problems with storage card. dont forget to reset after reg change.
You can also somehow set it to a specific location, I'm pretty sure HTC Home Customiser allows you to do this, but however it does it, doesnt always 'work'.
ya I think I've tried this, just upgraded to PDACorner WM6.1 ROM. Everything else is running smoothly it's just the Music Launcher that doesn't seem to launch anything but WM.
I've removed it from the Today's right now... till I can figure it out!
Cheers,
Sam
I was looking for this as well, want to add in an option for TCMP to run instead of audio manager or wmp.
Theres been a few roms where its been replaced from what i can see in search.

A good music playlist organiser?

I find the process of creating and modifying playlist rather slow and cumbersome, in the TF3D music player and in window media player. In the former, you need to individually bring a long and add to a playlist. In the later, I need to individually delete unwanted ringtones and sound files from the library.
So, I wish there is a software that list all the sound files in the device but simply let my uncheck on the checkbox to select my song, then save it as a playlist.
Anyone uses such a software?
Found this:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-playlist-manager-build-103006.html
It works exactly as I wanted. However, only for Window Media Player.
Is there one similar for TF3D music player? Alternatively, is there a way to convert this playlist to be used by TF3D music player?
edit: found this:
http://mobile-sg.com/software/?p=PlaylistMgr&platform=ppc
Going to try it out.
Edit: Yap, it works. Problem solved. You can now very efficiently create any playlist!
LOL Thanks again, I am just going to follow your posts and everything will get fixed for me!
I can't get it to work. I can create a playlist but when I go to the HTC playlists it's not there, what am I doing wrong?
Ah, soft reset fixed it.

Problems with my new Tilt 2

I hope this is in the right spot!
I finally got fed up with my Fuze and I bought a Tilt 2.
I am having a couple of problems which I "think" is related to WM6.5
1) The sites that stream .mp3 will not open Windows Media Player and it tries to save it as a file instead of playing it. It looks like WMP isn't set to open .mp3 files??? Is there a fix for this?
2) I like to listen to audio from talkstreamlive.com and when I open the webpage, the list of shows is screwed up. There's no space between the list items, instead, it shows one name half on top of the line below for the whole list. I tried adjusting the screen zoom, but it makes no difference. If I fire up the Fuze which has WM6.1, all is well.
I tried searching for similar issues, but so far I haven't found anything like these.
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it!
Thanks

Well I dont use WMP for anything anymore. I use Coreplayer and it will open up URLs and play mp3's mp4's etc.
This may be the easiest solution for you.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I installed the new version of CP and that solved one issue, so how to I make CP the default player instead of WMP? I know how to do these adjustments on desktop PC's, but these mobile devices are a new deal for me...
I also solved the screwed up display too!!
Thanks soo much for the help!
