Upgradng PDA2K Camera to 3.2Mega - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

i want to put a 3.2 mega CCD in my imate PDA2K. does any body has any idea about this kind of upgrade

i have no idea how you would do that. but if you manage to put one in. tell us about it!

3 factors
1 legcompatible chip is required and as chip manufactors dont follow some std which leg is power which is data which is address..... not to mention how many legs and even size of chip is used
2 electrical protocol compatible chip is required protocol to even tell the cpu what it is and what services it support
3 driver used for the cam and blocking of the old driver as if the old chip use another driver the rom will not boot so a custom rom with the new driver would have to be cooked
end of the day in most cases more expensive and troublesome then buying a new pda..

Dear techie: is it possible to upgrade proccesor?

I thought about those 2 free ram slots..
and i even found a distributer of "infineon" near me !
i think i'll take my JJ to some 1 to solder it,
and another Q is:
is it possible to buy a faster intel proccesor and replace the existing one?
will there be any problems with that?
Technical info and opinion
About RAM:
If you buy the same specification ram and have a company microsolder them into your device, great! It should be fairly straightforward. Please take measurements of your device's performance, battery life, observations, and system info before and after updating and post back to let us all know how it goes.
About Processor:
Windows Mobile 5 seems to be built to automagically recognise the parameters of the Intel XScale CPU in it, meaning that switching the CPU to another of the same family should not cause problems. Replacing it would be an impressive feat to accomplish physically, so again get back to us all on this. You could get up to 800Mhz! Check out Intel's Xscale roadmap at http://download.intel.com/design/embedded/downloads/30610501.pdf
Pocket Hack Master is a utility which allows users to overclock their HTC Universal; see http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=overclock
My personal observation:
I'd be reluctant to try microsoldring surface-mount ram chips to my new Universal (has to be done professionally). My 64MB work fine, not to mention another two chips would potentially add 1.4watts (0.7watts each) of battery drain and heat power dissipation to my device. I've only got 1600mAh and tend to travel (no-recharge).
I urge other users to mod their devices in the pursuit of science and performance; both truely noble causes. Example, more ram would ease the running of Linux on this device. Please continue working towards a Linux port for Windows Mobile devices!
now comes another moding question:
is it possible to buy a better battery?
or is the one that comed with it - "standard" and unchangeable?
10x,
P.S
P.S-
Which proccessor would you reccomend on that will not drain my batt?
(please specify exact model so i'll know what to ask for)
as for Ram: Is it possible to replace to existing ram with a higher one?
or just upgrading by adding 2 more (exactly the same) ram chips? if it id indeed possible -
again, please write me what model do i need (that would drain my batt life).
Use this link for reference:

10x again,
ok, i just got off the phone with
some 1 who works with intel,
asked him the question and he says - right now 520 MHZ is fastests,
(it also says it here)
http://www.intel.com/design/embeddedpca/applicationsprocessors/302302.htm
and soon will come out a new proccessor but even then, you wont be able to just do a simple switch between them.
it'll have to be acompanied by a software update ect....
but hey, i wont mind updating just my ram

WM5 vs WM6 speed on blue angel

Just like the title means... i have a killer question
My little brother has a Cingular 8125, here are the aspects:
(WM5)
cpu : OMAP8590
speed : 195 mghz
ram: 64 MB
flash size: 128 MB
flash chip type: m-systems
bus: 16 bits
Storage size: 42 MB
mine are on a O2 xda iis (blue angel)
(WM6)
cpu: intel (r) PXA263
speed: 400 mghz
ram size 128 MB
flash size 32 MB
flash chip type: 28F128K3
bus: 32 bits
Storage size: 60 MB
both with 230 x 320 lcd screens with 65536 colors.
I just have moved (after reading A LOT!) to windows mobile 6.... i grab his pda just to compare, and he has A LOT of speed than mine
It's because of the rom that i had installed? (it's the one with the sticky on the threads on WM6 around the corner in here)
or because the WM edition itself
In advanced, thanxs, its a big big thing because if i am right, i had at least the double that he has, so, all of this is not right... right????
I think you will find that some of it is the rom. The blue Angel was originally as you know released with WM2003 if not WM2003SE
which was optimised by both the manufacture and the carrier of the network. These roms are made by very experienced rom cookers/developers but they are working withexisting material not rewriting code from scratch.
Also I've even noticed that my BA slowed down it's boot up time substantially from wm2003se now that it's running wm6. as well some things appear to take a bit longer. your relative's rom is likely to be the original unchanged rom and is optimised for the device it's loaded on. there are tweaks to help with the diffrence even then. but just like pc's the newer is not always faster on the same hardware.
The main problem with Blue Angel is it's very slow flash memory. Even it's own SD slot with today's cards is a lot faster. On WM2003/SE that wasn't a problem because of flash memory was used only for backup purposes while in WM5/6 the whole system runs from it.
BTW: I think there exist original WM5 ROM for Blue Angel which was made by HTC for one of the operators (who leaked it) and it is therefore optimised greatly.
That's odd, the bootup did takes sometime but the overall is certainly great even testing it with WM5. Is it just me or everyone else ? So far, I kinda like it, the loading speed from SD card somehow it's slowed down for some unknown reasons but overall it works great.
Maybe we should give Helmi & Xplode sometime to find a way to optimise the WM6, I believe they can do it, after all they are the genius who made and cooked the WM6 rom.
Couple things here. First, many think that the TI OMAP in Wizard is slower than the XScale in Blue Angel. It's not... that's simply the Megahertz Myth™
Note: The Megahertz Myth is a registered trademark of Apple.
Anyways, the Wizard is a faster, more modern device, that has been optimized for Windows Mobile 5.
The HTC drivers that were used for WM5/WM6 on Blue Angel are very poor quality... they were never meant to have the OS store files in ROM, rather than in RAM. In short, HTC never optimized the drivers Blue Angel for WM5/WM6, which is why it runs slower.
As experienced as helmi_c, xplode, and others are at this, HTC still holds the keys to their drivers, and the amount of modification anyone outside of HTC can do to them is limited.
HTC should free up BA drivers for editing.
If they discontinued BA and do not give support, then give the tools to the costumers so that we can finish their work.
BA as great hardware it only needs good drivers, because Windows Mobile is handeled great by xda-developers team!
i dont believe htc write most the drivers
most of them would be included in the oem stuff they get
like the screen or bluetooth chip and the likes
in which case they could get in trouble if they did
even if they had access to the sourcecode of the drivers
they might not
Of course Wizard is faster for most tasks. It is because of it's all-in-one design. But when comparing the CPUs RAW power, the Blue Angel is even stronger than contemporary devices like Hermes. This is however visible only when using heavy games or multitasking so it is not a major advantage for most of us. BTW: The OMAP CPU used in many devices today was not originaly made for WM5, it was first used on Smarthpone platform back in 2003 days. Even old Motorola MPx200 (Smartphone 2002) has OMAP with very similiar design to OMAP 850 in Wizard.
In WM5/WM6 for Blue Angel the slow flash memory is compensated by using more paging memory then in other devices. This is why the device seems to respond quickly but it is not perfect.
Personally, I would prefer having Wizard over Blue Angel because of it's more power efficient design. But it has poor ergonomics and one-handed navigation / text entry is impossible. Therefore I have chosen Blue Angel.
HTC releaing scources to their drivers? That is only a dream. And I think the license agreements with makers of parts do not allow this.
I bet if someone were to get friendly with a person working at HTC, We could get some BA stuff from them. It's not like they stand to lose a bunch of $ for it.

PSP 290 with WM devices?

All,
I have a PSP and toying with the idea of getting the PSP 290 GPS receiver http://gpstekreviews.com/2007/03/20/sony-gps-receiver-psp-290-for-play-station-portable-psp-review/ which is mini-USB interface.
I was wondering if there was at some point any hope of making it work with a WM6 Smartphone device and whatever SW running on it and make double use of the same device
First issue may in fact come from the physical connectivity since it is designed to fit nicely in the PSP and therefore has 2 little "prongs" which may cause problem when trying to fit inside my S710.
Comments are welcome!
Thanks
only 2 or 3 of the htc devices support usb host which is required
for a pda to use other usb devices

Adding WM6 to any device (nokia, samsung, LG...)

I enjoy using WM6 on my HTC Touch but my problem has always been the physical size of the screen. Even with a VGA screen like the Glofiish phones the 2.8inch screen still falls short. Especially for on screen keyboards. And web browsing.
Having seen the recent releases of devices such as the Iphone, Nokia 810, Samsung F490, LG Viewiety. While we may have our own opinions about these devices, im sure that if WM was running on devices with decent 3-4 inch screens such as what is being offered, WM6 would be a better experience.
Then that got me thinking and i accept i'm opening myself to attack here, but what prevents us taking a samsung F490 or a LG Viewiety or a good mobile that has good screen & processor and flashing it with a WM6 rom?
I know there's alot more to it, but in my inexperienced view, a mobile phone is just hardware & software.
Has anyone heard of OS swapping with mobile devices? How would one have to go about it? What factors would have to be considered?
If there are any links on the subject i'd be quite interested.
Thanks
a rom require specielt drivers for all the hardware present in a phone without them the rom will never boot at all
a rom require a spc addressable space for it's bootloader and the rom itself
if the hardware chipselect model the mem in any other way the rom will never boot
for these reason it require time and access to devices and tools not widely avalible to make a rom for a device
and current version of wm only support ARM cpu all other supported cpu's was drop'd with pocketpc2000
Thanks for the feedback. That gave me a little more understanding.
I hear the iphone uses a 700Mhz ARM Chip and i did think it would be funny if it did run WM6 like you can run vista on a intel mac.
One can but dream.lol!
For now Roll on Sony Ericsson!
and one more reason is that unlike the operating systems running on our pcs installs itself according to the hardware config (e.g max screen resolution) but windows mobile devices are made in a way to be compatible with operating system.
just like wm6 has no chance on a magician.
I didn't realize that, but it makes sense. Maybe in WM7 they will address this providing a more flexible environment? I can see how it can restrict phone manufactures who want to offer more.
wm7 is going to be dual touch sensitive like iphone where we can touch the screen at two places for some functions. this is one of the reason present devices running on wm6 will hardly support wm7.

[Q] Mini Cooper Third Party Entertainment System- WINCE/ Android - Upgrade Solutions?

Hello Xda-Developer Members,
My Name ist Robin, I'm from Germany and almost 20 Years old. This is my first post here (since 5-6 years ago), please be patient if my English is not that good or i'm writing in the wrong topic.
I've been customizing HTC Devices almost 5 oder 6 Years ago, so deep in my mind there are some rememberings about flashing XDA's left, but actual i would rather call myself an absolut beginner If you have interesting links or tutorials for me, that can answer my questions, please just post the link. I guess my english is that bad that i don't have the right keywords to find what i'm looking for.
I've bought myself an R56 Mini Cooper S and i'm very happy about this car, except of the Entertainment. The original Headunit has no functions than the tuner,an auxiliary input and a CD-Player. The sound is not powerful ( i already managed to customize and delete the 100Hz Limiter the Radio has for the "Stereo-System-Speakers") as this lays in the low ampfiler power. Upgrades are very expensive (Bluetooth just for calls - 300€ all around- no A2DP Support at all!!) and doesn't satisfy me as they won't work properly ( Problems with ID3-Tags, USB-Storage Sizes...).
Professional Digital Sound Processing (about 300€) requires a MOST-Bus Interface(very expensive). Summing up all togheter, working with the original Headunit will never make me happy at all.
I was looking for some alternatives and found two kinds of upgrade head units, that fit into the original interior design and which seems very interesting to me expecting the functions.. I'd like to ask the professionals here some questions about ist.
Headunit Version 1: Please search on Aliexpress for " ZESTECH New mini cooper car dvd player with gps navigation radio bluetooth steering wheel car dvd player mini cooper ", I'm not allowed to post a link in here
This Headunit is equipped with an ARM11 Processor 800Mhz, 256MB Ram, 128 MB Rom and a custom version of WNCE 6.0.
There are several functions that i would be really interested in- like the GPS Receiver, Bluetooth (With A2DP!) Touch Display, CAN-Bus interface for wheel steering control and so on.
Also i'm afraid of a very slow system ( 256MB Ram and 800Mhz is not very much, isn't it?!), a crappy software design with bad german translation, navigation software that doesn't work properly.... Problems we know from "NoName China Devices"..
So i'm wondering if it is possible to install a clean Version of WIN CE i could customize by myself ? Can i upload the ROM that is installed on the device just to take out drivers? (I guess, i'll have to?!)
I have heard, Windows Phone 7 is based on the WIN CE 6.0 Core. Is it possible to install Phone7 on a WINCE device ? I like the Design of it better than the WINCE- and Windows Phone would deliever a Software store, were i could easily download Apps, i guess.
Would it be possible to install a clean version of Android on this device? In those days i was hacking my HTC, Android actually came on and some custom ROMs appeared that managed using Android on WInMob Devices by using HaRet as "boot loader" , i deeply remember....
Headunit Version 2: Please search on Alieexpress for " Pure Android 4.4 Car radio DVD GPS for BMW Mini (up to 2013) with Bluetooth RDS USB SD IPOD SWC Rearview 3G Wifi Support DVR "
This Headunit is equipped with a more powerful 1,9 Ghz Cortex A9 CPU, 1GB Samsung Ram and 8 GB ROM. Even the quality of the software design and display resolution is much better. Also it has WIFI, a Can Interface, Bluetooth, GPS Receiver, and so on. Another benefit that there is already a version of Android running on it- but it's still no clean version. The description says something about that the google market is installed on the device. Could any problems come up to me that the market won't work properly?
Is it possible to take this device, take the hardware drivers out of the original ROM and finally install a current clean Android ROM on it?
Can man make the Google Market work? ( I heard there are Problems with self-cooked ROMs and the Google Market- but im only a noob )
I still remember, building a custom rom and make a upgrade ROM work is a big amount of work- but if this is possible it would be worth it, for me and sure for other Mini Drivers since most of them are sad about the bad Entertainment.
Please don't be angry about the large text and maybe some dumba** questions. I did much to find a solution by myself, but still im sitting here without any idea
I'm looking forward for your answers,
Robin
If you want a hackable Chinese headunit, I would recommend the 2 most popular here on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...4-4-2-kitkat-head-unit-newsmy-carpad-t2865525
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2660662
But I don't know how well they or their variants will fit in your car.
If you just want "Android Auto" you can try my headunit app on a tablet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60894402&postcount=94
Hey hey! Thank you for your fast response!
The Version 1 Headunit you wrote about is my absolute favourite. very nice thing. Sadly, putting a 2-Din Headunit into my car means a lot of work, and there is still the old command unit for the standard radio that won't work anymore if there is a new sound station installed.
If there is no better solution i'm fine with that. But as long as there are - maybe - head units that fit into the original interior, this would be more satisfying.
A few Minutes ago i sent a Mail to the Customer of the Android DVD radio if there are any limitations within his android version and if there would be a possibility sending me a clean rom version if i buy the radio. Last point is a high expectation- but who knows
