Hi everyone,
Just a quick question.
I understand that cameras from phones are easily removed. However I was told that cams on phones with dual cameras might not be removable. Just wondering if this is real.
I wish to get myself a PDA phone, either Atom Life, Zinc or the Samsung i780. All of them comes with dual cameras, and my workplace doesnt allow cameras as such I have to get them removed.
Wondering if anyone knows which of the above 3 phones' cameras are removal.
Thanks alot!
Typically when you buy the phone from a carrier's business division they offer a no camera option. Otherwise, I'd say the only option is to get the phone that you want and search for a housing w/o the camera openings and then switch the phone over to that housing. FWIW, PDA phones w/a carrier in the US have the front facing camera removed as of right now since we don't have video calling here yet.

Hi all,
I am currently running a little Wizard (MDA Vario on T-Mobile) however I'm due for an upgrade in a few weeks although I'm quite happy with my little MDA I really want something with a very good camera how does the Artemis 2MP camera perform?
Thanks!
Hi,
I love my artemis except the poor quality camera ithink this is no 2mp to compare with my SE W900i
cu
Well the image quality is a hell of alot better than the 1.3mp camera of my wizard. The image is too big to post but can send to you by email if you want.
If you want a good camera in your phone, then you better forget the P3300 or any other HTC phone. Take a look at some Sony Ericsson or Nokia phones.
Many thanks for the advice, I have been looking at the Nokia N93 and the N95 looks rather tasty but not sure if they will ever be available on T-Mobile.
If you could send a picture for me to compare that would be great as I have other pictures to put side by side.
Many thanks

The artemis camera is the best camera i have seen to date in a HTC device and its a lot better than the one on the Tytn, still because of the lack of autofocus you cannot compare it to a Sonyericsson or Nokia phone
@sammis can you poste a picture ?
may camere is realy bad quality noise over the hole picture

Here is a photo taken indoors in a very well lit hallway. There are 5 halogen lights above this photo. The camera in the artemis is the worst I have ever seen. I had a T-Mobile SDA previous to this and it's images were much better than this. I am returning my phone largely because the camera is so horrible.

Any other 3rd party camera software available? maybe this might improve the quality

Of course is a camera in a PDA not that good as an normal camera with an real focus, but if the light is good you really ca make quit ggod fotos. The question for me is allways: Do you whant an PDA or an digicam ??? This fotos are if you remeber only for sending MMS!!!!
pangloss - just take it back and stop bashing the handset, it is a multi functional PDA that costs nothing like the cost of a Camera, PDA, MP3 Player, and standalone phone
Hello, I've found ARTEMIS service manual, and I'm wondering if it's possible to replace camera module with a better one (i.e. CCD and more and 2 Mpx).
To me, Artemis's camera is one of the very few bad features about it.
What do you think?
Yeah I would be interested in that one too. Orbit's camera is one of the worst I ever had in a phone.
It would be great, but its probably easier to change a Nokia 95 (with a 5 MP lens) into a windows mobile device and put a touch screen on it!
I think that Artemis camera module (as for other HTC devices) is manufactured by Liteon.
It should be one of those modules listed here:
http://www.liteon-semi.com/_en/03_cmos/02_about.php?ID=3
It doesn't seem to me too much difficoult to replace the camera module, reading the service manual (btw, if you are interessed, you can get it here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/61381502/Artemis_SM_AX03__0110.pdf ).
The main problem is to find a 3 or more Mpx module that has the same pin-out and is compatible
(but maybe the ones from liteon use all the same system).
Also software drivers could be an issue.
It's a pity, since those modules seems to be quite inexpensive, compared to the device price.
For example, this one:
http://tinyurl.com/2zw7kz
is a liteon CMOS Camera module used by HTC universal (1.3 Mpx) and it's just about 26$
could i have this service paper?
the RS link isnt working

I' m also interested in the service manual although the guy I know at the service point will not be pleased to discover I have found out the secret of his "power".
does anyone know how possable it would be to add nfc to our e4gt?
i remember on the vibrant i could take a front facing camera from another variant and add it to the vibrant. from what i know nfc enabled parts are the battery and sim through a hardware and software mod could we return this feature to our phones? I'm looking for a tmobile sgs2 to open n look what hardware needs to be added.
Im wondering if the camera from the Google Pixel could be installed in the G4. The physical camera, not the software, well the software too.....
I have seen that its possible to instal the kdz for the google camera w AI. I have seen the quality of photos the pixel can make, I have tried (ok Im trying) to install the G4 camera in my G3, but it requires some chassis mods).
I have read all I can about the cameras in the Pixel, and the G4. i think they are both made by sony.
they look the same (comparing pictures of products for sale on ebay)
could one just pop out the stock camera and install the other? Is there some kind of system check that is performed before boot?
why or why not?
cheers

It could work if connection are the same but it's not so easy. Anyway after changing the camera you'll need also a Rom supporting it with correct "Drivers" or you'll have only a bunch of errors XD
Someone reached to do camera swap in really similar phones.

I do think the connectors are the same.
I know its a Sony, I have found the API's how do you disassemble them into the individual components?
cheers

Is there anyway to swap a z2 plays rear camera for the z2 force's rear dual camera? Would it work and if not why not. Thanks
Imagine this: have you ever tried putting a 9v battery in an AAA slot? It's physically impossible unless you modify the structure of whatever device is using them. And if you somehow manage to fit it, the device isn't guaranteed to work with it, and it can even stop working.
Same situation here, if you somehow manage to change the lens, there won't be space to fit them (z2 play is 0.1 mm thinner than the z2 force). If you surpassed all those steps, good luck trying to connect into the motherboard both cameras. If you are a ****ing hardware genius and somehow you managed to fit the connectors into the z2 play's motherboard, then good luck developing drivers for those lenses to work in the SoC of the z2 play (and I don't think the ISP supports two lenses at all).
I don't know what happened through your mind to even think that... That's a pretty dumb question.
Well thanks for the reply and never even thought about the other cam having a different connector not even sure if it does but I suppose it could. I personally don't think it is a stupid question, both phones are Moto's and the same series z2, I do understand they have different motherboards and processors, not so fluent on android but since people on here use custom ROMs thought I'd ask. Guess I should have thought about the drivers issue though. Anyways thanks for your response. I suppose I was hopeful for the play 2 to have a better and dual camera. I use it has my primary, because I can Bluetooth tether without turning off Wi-Fi which I can't do with the z2 force Verizon model, this also worked for me on the e4plus but not on z play Verizon model, I really don't understand why some models work for this and some don't, doesn't make sense to me.
