iPAQ 514 series forum? - About xda-developers.com

I've searched, but can't find if anyone has requested this before.
Any chance of a subforum for the iPAQ 510 series? Would be nice to have somewhere to consolidate files for this device. (Especially since customs are possible as well)
Thanks

XDA III, japanese windows

Hi everybody. Not yet bought such a device as I have first to understand wheter it is possible to install a Japanese windows. I need it to be able to read and write japanese characters and don't find a place where to find a device already equipped with such a software.
Also, does anyone know where an image of a japanese windows might be obtained ?
Thanks in advance to any one who will help.
Do you want to read/write Japanese, or for the entire OS to become Japanese?
If it's the former, you need the fonts containing Kanji, a set of registry entries to default fonts without unicode kanji chars to the Kanji fonts, and an IME that can do Kanji. A kanji dictionary is also useful.
If it's the latter, you need a Japanese ROM, and I doubt these devices have been released in Japan becauase of the different cell phone network protocols there.
More info on Fonts/IME/Dictionary here:

So, on using the phone in Japan...
Thanks Andy, nice of you and, excellent and pertaining answer. Let me go straight to my problem. I have to go to Japan for business and hope to use this device as a phone and as an e-mailer machine. You've answered for Kanji Hiragana and so on. I know that Japan uses W-DCMA as a protocol. Does anyone knows if it is possible to place a japanese SIM into it to make it operative there ?
An alternative would be to connect it (via BlueTooth) to a rent japanese phone, just for the e-mail.
Any Japanese reading this forum might pls, help?
Thanks in advance
Japanese on the English OS
i am japanese guy, and have been used Wallby--Himalaya--Blue Angel--Mini,with japanese language(OS is english, but can write/read/encoding to JP)
and also now tring to be localized Magneto WM2005.
i am very famouse guy (i hope) of the Japan/China Localization of English PPC.
To use Jpanese on ENG OS, need Japan font, replacing wince.nls=encoding inbox and IE,also font registry files, and encoding registry.

I was in Japan last year for 3 weeks holiday (fantastic!), but my XDAII certainly wasn't able to connect to anything GSM/GPRS like over there. It was still invaluable to have as a PDA because of the Kanji dictionary program.
I hired a J-Phone temporarily while I was out there, but I don't know whether there are Bluetooth enabled ones out there allow the XDA to use the phone as a data modem.
Asukal - interesting website, I must parctice my Japanese more!

Japan has no GSM, but has a W-CDMA, you can use W-CDMA phone with your country SIM card and W-CDMA/GSM dual Mobile Phone(such like a nokia 7600/6630). we have very few mobile Phone with Bluetooth in japan. so you had better bring your M Phone in japan.
while i am in japan,i use XdaO2 IIs+Nokia 7600 with china GSM SIM. it was not officail roaming (china Moble Co also dont know how to do), but it can be done. also Hong Kong SIM can.
if you wish to hire J-Phone<now they are Vodafon japan>, Nokia6630 and Sonny erricoson are available with Bluetooth. but those phone were sim locked. your own SIM will be rejected and must use J-Phone`s.
i am very await for the MDA-4 with W-CDMA will comming!
Thank you.
Thank you Andy. Thank you Asukal. You guys, have made me understand the matter. Now I understand that I have either to have an MDA IV (as soon as it is available) or have an MDA III plus a phone like a Nokia 6630 for when I am to Japan.
Thanks again, have a nice day.
Welcome to Japan
Mr,spinzolone>>>>
MDA IV, if it come with New OS WM2005, i can`t guarantee to enable Japanese encoding internet browsing and e-mail inbox .
In my test with Beta-WM2005,(also another chinese friend so) still cant do it currentry. but i hope it will be solved soon.
Asukal: One quick question - I'm having problems with my font-linking, notably "\". Do you have any idea what might be wrong?
I'm using XDAII, PPC2003, with the ttc font collections rather than individual files. I've checked your registry files and the linking information seem the same as mine.
Hints for Japan ...
Dear Asukal, so do you think that with a iPAQ MM2003(first or second edition) patched for displaying japanese characters, and a Nokia 6630 I'll be able to send/receive e-mail while in Japan?
And, for a matter of costs, would you suggest to buy a SIM in Japan rather than roaming from Japan to Italy?
Any other hint for a European guy?
Thanks again a lot. Domo arigato

i e-mailed u last night about Japanese input Atok, also i made cab files of another Japanese SIP "POBOX" which has predictive input system.
Just tap this CAB to install,Reginal setting must be Japanese when you install and use this.(also only can use after Localize to Japan)
down load from here

about SIM in Japan, Japan has no prepaid SIM card. you must make conract for a year! it was cost and troublesome for forginer.(ask some japanese friend to buy his name, US$100 at the first and US$30 per every mounth. One year contract.
So i suggest use your italy SIM.
Thanks a lot Asukal, it was a joy to me to receive your quick reply yesterday evening. I've followed you suggestions and now I have a HP hx2410 - Windows Mobile 2003 se v. 4.21 perfectly "japanized".
Showed it to the Japanese manager who's going to use it and he was very satisfied.
P.S. We were told from a japanese guy that, when we go to Japa we can make contract with DOCOMO or VODAFONE. Particularly with DOCOMO, asking for a contrat FOMA we should receive a SIM card.
You know, it is not that I want to have SIM cards. To me it's enough that my phone NOKIA 6630 works there. But I'm to send a manager there and I'd better instruct him on what to do to make connections in Japan.
If you could confirm that, no matter which contract (with or without SIM card), we can work, this would bring a smile on our faces.
Have a nice day

Many Kinds of English ROM were uploaded to XdaO2-Developers.com,
You can download and write engish rom on your chinese rom.
You can srech relative thread about that(for link of DL, or how to write rom)
If i had time, i can find for you but now i am on business travel now, no time to do.
Or you sale it and buy again! because if you re-write rom, no more guarantte by devise vender.

Are ROMs geographical location specific?

I am based in India and bought my XDA IIs here through a reseller of O2. I want to know that are the ROMs that are available on FTP channel of this site geographical location specific?
I want to choose the right Radio ROM to update my XDA IIs. I am a bit scared to do it though.
Thanks,
Siddharth
siddharthkaushik
Welcome to the forum
Please take time to read wiki, the link you will find in my signature,
The roms are NOT "geographical location specific". they are made up of 3 parts. The OS or CE rom is the language that you use (WWE for english), The exteneded rom is the operator sepcifiv part. it gives you settings that are only good for one operator in one place (SMS number, Help line, web links) as well as freebies applications ZIP, PDF viewer. This can be cooked to your own needs (via wiki), The radio is a version number and the higest is thought to be the best, at the moment 1.12 is the higest but alot of people feel 1.10 is better. That is waht this forum is about, reading what has worked for others.
Please use the searc funtion at the top and have fun in wiki

wm6 italian roms...help us for make it !

i've searched, searched and also searched, read all post, tryed with google and also, but i cannot find it...
i need someone who can explain me, or link me the way for make that...
where i can find or how i can create a mod with italian languages ?
there is some guide or tips, links or somethings else for do that ?
i've seen that there is much languages, dutch also but not italian...why ?
the italian roms files where is ?
i don't want annoing anymore, but please, i need some help, i want to do it myself without thief time to us..
thanks to all.
Hello bisat, whole italian users have this same problem.
There isn't any italian rom with wm6 working......it is so frustrating
I associate to his question.....how can we perform a new rom including italian language in the menu and also for inputs (like T9 )......which tools we have to work with? Please someone helps us because Htc doesn't...
only vodafone made a new updating rom, but it's only with wm5 edition
Before the "new" Vodafone rom (TEST ROM) you couldn't even find any Italian wm5 rom, right? And wm5 has been out for quite some time
So how can you expect NOW a pre-made wm6 rom in Italian language?
Until someone or we all contribute in translating (like germans are doing...see the relative thread) then you can only dream about it
But anyway... I don't know if its worth it anyway... I mean, it will take a lot of time and work and when we finish maybe wm6 will be released officially... in Italian.
So I suggest you to be happy of what you can test now about wm6 (which is a lot anyway)
If there's any possibility, the best is to create an Italian group for the translation to Italian language, just the same that the Deutch group is doing.
In every case, I give my complete disposition in this "hard" work.
Rgs.

You have only 3 post here and you are asking us to build something for you? And this will cost US OURS of coding? (or worst, days to explain to a noob how to code a rom )
We are thousands here and do you think nobody here has better things to do instead of explaining to a noob how to code a full language?

Believe me, is faster and easier to learn how to use a TyTN in english than to learn how to code a national language!
You should be very young, is the only excuse!
Please insert the brain before starting writing! (and read at least for one month before startin asking again all over the xda-developers!) AMEN

Sorry to tue others members, only a little mistake with sergiopi.
I notice that arrogance and diseducation in italian people, first of all me, are so excessive that i'm embaressed.
I asked an explanation...if someone told me that translete the WM6 rom in italy is too difficoult by a n00b, not would have been any problem!
So, sergiopi has insulted me, with his arrogance.
I have read all Hermes 6 threads in the past 2 weeks, so sergiopi, please insert YOU the brain before starting writing!
And since this is a public forum, i may ask or write all the times i want.
If i write or ask noob questions, moderators may ban me.
Stop, that's all folks.
Edited:
I DON'T ASK YOU TO WRITE SOMETHING FOR ME.
I simply ask if someone may explain me how i ONLY translate the rom.
It's too complicated? I will use my hermes with english OS.
Form you words, i notice that You are to young to write here.
This will be slightly OT but anyway...
I prefer to use English version of whatever software I am using. Personally I can not imagine working with phone in my language (never had any localized phone OS). Using an english version of WM6 will help you improve your english. If you are looking for input in your language - your hermes comes with great hardware keyboard - with little reg hack and edited sym.txt you will be able to input just about any symbol you might need. There may be a paid localization software in your language, try to find out. Good luck

I'd like to use my "games"..phone, ipod, car radio in my language, 'cause i love it so much!
No problem, i use it in english...i understand that it is a hard try for me, i'm only a n00b...but if someone told me directly, all this thread would be unnecessary..!
Perhaps,in this forum our poor n00b must be lucky and try to understand what certain senior members say.
No problem, i'll return to lurk this forum, avoiding to post to not irritate anyone!
By, and thanks a lot!!

Non credo abbiamo piu' niente da dirci..
Vedo che dall'alto del tuo piedistallo, e' difficile scendere tra noi poveri comuni pagliacci.
Un piacere cmq averti conosciuto.

Sorry to all members, with this messege the discussion with sergiopi is closed..!

I did not mean to discourage you in any way! This forum lives from people like you - those that are willing to actually create something. Do not get intimidated by some senior members.
Concerning English - I only noted my language preferrence for gadgets/computers (you can be sure I love my language too ). If you are still willing to start the project ask German gyus for tools/info. There has also been a Chinese version of WM6 floating around, try to ask that guy as well. Hopefully though there will be a localization included in a final version of WM6 or provided by a local operator.

This will be slightly OT but anyway...
If you are looking for input in your language - your hermes comes with great hardware keyboard - with little reg hack and edited sym.txt you will be able to input just about any symbol you might need. Good luck

Thank's, great, your job points out what I am trying to explain: always, before doing things like writing in a WM6 technical discussion "please explain to me how to write an Italian ROM...." , as he proudly said here, (and we have seen the results of this kind of messages in technical areas on jasjammin support to his Black 2.0 ROM) use search button! May be I was too "direct" but when is needed IS needed (quando ce vo' ce vo' )
The 3D on WM6 italian ROM otherwise is an important 3D were to collect all Italian Hermes developers. I am testing your tool on LVSW and on Black 2.0 (no keyboard version) and I believe it is an important tool for Italian customizzation of WM5-6 ROMs
i haven't got word !
i wanted to put in a team for make an italian crew, because 100 brains its better than one, but it is possible that the only things that we are good to make is a big flame ?
this is the reason for which we haven't got an italian rom...
we ever wait for the other works...
so, if somebody want to make something, like skyzzo...please contact me, maybe toghether me can make something goods.
p.s. somebody have got the InTheHand professional package ?

Hi moderators
Can you set up a new forum for the P750, please

Just got my P750 so would like to see a forum dedicated to it!
Mine arrived this morning. Be good to have all the info in one place.
Thanks
am already with VGA ROM
Can someone do a VGA video of P750 on youtube?
WIll the items and words be too small to be viewed?
I agree with a forum for Asus PDA's
Well the maybe we should start with something Constructive and start Pooling our Resources and make this Sticky ??

Thanks for the positive reply look forward to future posts, my P750 is due next week but hey Moderators a new section would still be good.....
Hi All,
It's pretty cool. Somebody has link to download msn for vga version?
Big Thx,
F
Mods - Is there a formal way to request a new section for this phone? If not what is the criteria used? I'd guess it's owner numbers, but I wondered how that was measured.
I fully expect it to be the focus of much debate and tweaking.
Thanks
And now a simple question. Do any of you find the Travelog program poor at getting a GPS fix? Sometimes it just fails to. However if I start Google Maps it finds 1,2,3,4... fix in about 10 seconds or less. If I then switch back to Travelog and start GPS, it goes green and gets a fix almost right away. Of course then I have to go back and close Google Maps. I am pretty sure it's more than a perception thing, which is why I wanted to ask other users.
TIA
I think the requirement for a new sub forum is that it's manufactured by HTC. I know one or two forums aren't dedicated to HTC maunfactured devices, but that's because of confusion regarding the manufacturer/releases of the devices.
Understood, thanks. Pity. Anyone know where XDA quality discussions on the P750 are taking place?

Purlezzz... the links you gave are definitely not as informative or technical as is required. Plus it is just plain silly to go through the gazillion pages in the three threads... It is hardly productive. "Official Thread"? Yeah right...
Would prefer the forum below but it is too quiet...

Also got the P750 and looking for interesting stuff about. hopefully it will get a sub forum since it really helps.
