Connected my Orbit to my work PC using ActiveSync 4.5. Opera and Windows messenger work fine (automatically), problem is that Internet Explorer and Google maps don't connect. Any ideas why Opera & messenger will, without any proxy configurations, connect and IE & Google maps won't?
Update: Intranet works ok, but still no Internet.
Anyone had this problem?

I start Windows Live Messenger and sign-in.
The sign-in fails if I put in a wrong password, so I am definitely talking to a server.
Even if I have a wi-fi connection to the internet, the last step "Checking Internet Connectivity" fails. If not there, a 3G connection is always created.
I don't see any similar problems, so is this a 3 UK network restriction?
I have 3 mobile mail and Skype working fine over 3G & wi-fi. This is with Helmi AKU3.5.
Any ideas?
Thx

Does anyone have live messenger running on 3 uk (it is free now)?
I've tried the Live Messenger Beta and a midlet but cannot connect to a server - shame because it works fine on a Nokia 6680 and Motorola C975.
At least I have the settings OK now for the 3 MMS servers

the problem seems to be with the first account/login name u enter
change the account name/login & see
this worked for me
frz
Thanks - I've tried another login but still the same.
I see now that if I turn the phone off in connections, the beta works over wi-fi or activesync.
So it seems to be a problem finding a server through the 3 network, maybe they use another server name or a proxy or something
Hi there,
I noticed Windows Live messenger also connects through gprs (when configured under connections), when a wireless lan connection is available. Internet Explorer works fine, and doesn´t try to connect through gprs when wifi is available and enabled. This sucks big time.
Besides this I wonder if there is already a fix for disabling windows live messenger putting it´s contacts in the phone contact list??
Hope someone can help..
regards,
DM
Windows Live defaults to gprs. Just disconnect gprs, then sign in and when it starts connecting to gprs, hit cancel. As long as you do have wifi connected it will use that.
I think MS had to make it use gprs to keep the networks happy to include it.
The sync issue hasnt been resolved in the latest live - it is an option to merge dupes but it doesnt seem any better

Thank you for replying. This wasn´t the case with WM5 and pocket msn.
Also, why does internet explorer not have this issue? It really sucks. the solution you´re saying, doesn´t work for me. It keeps trying to connect while a wifi connection is working for Internet explorer.
When it did this on mine, I would use connection manager to stop the wifi connection and then start it again, and then, mysteriously, it would stop trying to connect the gprs. Worth a try?
My windows live never successfully connects through 3G/GPRS always times out. Works through wifi no problems, and internet works fine through 3G/GPRS.
Any ideas??
S.K.
Marisa, thanks for your reply. Your suggestion works for me only occasionaly. I´m thinking of removing live messenger completely. Is there a way to do this? I installed it on the clean LVSW ROM of 26 march...

does anyone know how I can uninstall live messenger from wm6? thanks
@dmxl
re-install the OS only that is your best bet to remove the MS Live messenger. that is what i did on my device to get rid the MS Live messenger and i never do that install again.

Just wondered if anyone got this working? Tried on my pc with usb and bluetooth, but it only connects for a couple of seconds, but the device itself downloads fine.
Also tried it on my mac, but nothing at all with that!!

That sounds like it!!
I'll give it a bash when i get home!!
Thanks!
If you have Vista, then turn on Internet Connection Sharing and connect (choosing Bluetooth), then simply go to network sharing centre and create new Bluetooth Personal Area Network
Why skype doesn't work via active sync? It says that it's impossible to connect and check my network connection... But Opera and youtube work well!
Can you help me please?
Thanx!
The first time you use Skype, it needs to be connected via Wifi or a mobile internet connection. After the initial setup, you can use Skype via active sync.
Thank you very much for your answer! I'll try it asap!
Good luck, let me know if it works!
It worked well via wifi, but is impossible to connect via active sync!
Now is a bit better cause I can at least access to the skype interface but my status is always gray cause I'm not connected...
It is the last version of both skype and active sync...
I' ve found this from on http://support.skype.com:
Does Skype for Windows® phones work with ActiveSync connection?
Yes, using Skype for Windows® phones with ActiveSync does work. Sometimes however you cannot connect to Skype with first or second try.
We recommend using ActiveSync connection only for chatting.
Anyway it doesn't connect afeter many tries...
I had the same problem a while back. I'm not sure what has fixed it, perhaps I have flashed some ROMs in the meantime...
On a skype forum, I recall people were guessing whether it had to do with the Active Sync 4.5 setting 'This computer is connected to' (work/internet). I don't think it helps, but it's worth a shot.
I have the same problem. The skype does not work when connected through acivesync. It works with wifi. Is there a solution to this problem.....?
I'm using WM6.5 factory rom, after I turn on my wifi I can use it to access internet using opera, but cannot connect internet using ie, even cannot connect to marketplace and msn messenger, but the weird thing is I can connect these thru gprs, anyone can help??
