Dumb Question, but Need - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

Hi everybody!
I just need a fast answer.....
Is there anyway of not losing my contacts that are on the cellphone when I flash a new ROM in it?
First time I lost them all and didn't have any kind of backup...
Damn, don't wanna keep losing them!!!

Use Active Sync to store your contacts, tasks and calendar on your PC, or use PPC Pim Backup to make a backup copy on your SD and store it safely on your PC.

How can I UPGRADE, but BACKING UP my old files? HELP!!!

My question is if there is a way to back up my files, upgrade the ROM and then returne the files back, but without copying each on. In other words, what is usually done when you want to upgrade your ROM and keep your existing files + contacts and calendar entries, tasks etc.
Thank You in advance for your co-operation :!:
when you upgrade, all your non-synchronized files, contacts, reminders,,,etc will be lost!
Since the device makes synchronization everytime you dock it in the cradle, no worries about losing contact & other data, cause once you upgrade & resync the data with outlook, everything will return back to the device from outlook.
But be careful that all programs installed on the device, along with their data, WILL BE LOST upon upgrading the device!!
You need to reinstall the programs after upgrading..!
As an advice,, always make FULL backup of the device prior to upgrading it! In case any problem occured or you just remembered that you forgot to save some data, you can easily restore your old system..
You can also use commercial software to backup your data, and selectively restore the database(s) you want. Sprite Pocket Backup has worked fine for me for the last few years, and its exceptionally faster than the builtin utilities.

Moving contacts?

I have just got a MDA Vario III, I changed my sim and storage card over from my T-Mobile Compact III but the contacts stayed on my old phone. From this I take it that they are stored in the phone memory, how do I get them out of memory and over to my new phone?
Cheers ... FF ...
you can add them to the sim using sim manager
or sync with outlook

Not sure if it can be done INSTEAD of on device, but if you are looking for a way to restore calendar events & contacts (or, take them with you on your SD card to another device) try PPC PIM Backup. The app is an .exe so you just have to have a copy of if on your SD then you could use it on whatever device you wanted to backup or restore. You'd backup from one device and save the file on the SD then restore to another from the SD.

Thanks runningtiger, but That's the question i'm just wondering if it's possible to move it on the SD just to save space on my device.

Updating ROM

Hi there,
Got a question with regards to updating the ROM. Will this wipe the contact that I've saved? I understand that the internal storage is safe, but what about things like sms/contact and software that i've installed?
Thanks
yes, it will be wiped out... you can use outlook to sync your data, or download PIM backup (search this site) to backup contacts, sms etc..

[HELP]Can somebody pls give advice with Backuping?

Hello
I would like to upgrade my blackstone ROM to the newer one from the HTC support site (is it good thing to do?).
But I don't want to loose any of my data - I don't have lots of them but i don't want to loose them (this counts SMSs, MOSTLY apps, settings and pics).
My questions is:
What is the best software to backup stuff?
I found that SPB Backup is very good.
But another question - how is this done? Do I install this app, backup the data I want (I read that I can select what i want to backup) and then upgrade the ROM, then install spb backup again on device and restore?
Can anyone please give me a little advice here who has some experience with backuping and restoring?
Thank you people.
Better way is to move all your files onto a seperate storage card or your computer, Download ppcPIM backup http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705 Then backup with that.
After installing new rom reinstall ppc pim backup and restore. I found tghat if you used sktools or spb backup then put a different rom on it messed things up.
spbbackup
very good software i just started to use it myself
it saves everything all settings for programs, tabs settings, tweaked settings everything. if your gonna flash, backup all your data with spb. it will save onto your memory card. then after flashing and hard resetting you reinstall the spb software onto your phone. launch it and choose restore then a few minutes later all your settings, contacts, programs r back on.
enjoy
superb thanks for both advices..I already to tried Spb Backup to backup my files but did not try to restore them yet...
Thanks
with sprite backup you can save yourself from having to install applications again. ive heard good things about it but havent tried myself. i think it costs also.
slightly off topic but i feel compelled to tell you that its "backing up" not "backuping"
I guess you are right...
thx for advice

[Q] How to Backup Contacts that are Stored on the Phone

Hi All, and thanks for the nub help.
My wife decided to store all of her contacts on her phone instead of using her google account. Now I'd like to flash a new rom, but I cannot think of a way to backup those contacts. I'd gladly go through each one and convert it to a google-stored contact, but there seems to be no obvious way to do that.
Is there a way to backup and restore these contacts? Or to move them go google?
Thanks!

Theres an option when you are viewing your contacts screen to import/export to SD card. When in the contacts list just hit menu I think and youll see the option. It will create a file on your SD card and after you flash your new rom you will be able to import them back into the phone. Hope this helps. If you have any questions dont hesitate!
You should be able to do it. Open the dialer, then tab over to contacts, push menu, and then push "export to SD card." That will move them. Now you can flash your rom, and once you get it set, go back to the dialer, contact, then import from SD card, and you should be all set.
you could download Lookout from the market and it will back up ALL your contacts just make an account i love this app it allows you to locate your phone if you lost it and it scans your apps for viruses
Thanks all
Thanks for the help everyone. I forgot to mention that the Export to SD Card feature was crashing with a software error. That being said, I managed to use My Backup to backup the contacts.
Thanks!
No prob, and glad you got them backed up.
