I don't know if anyone has noticed... but the new ROM version (1.72 + radio 14) has actually improved concerning serial bluetooth connections -- especially on my BT GPS.
Now when I bond with it, it asks me if I want to use the serial profile. I say yes, and it uses COM 5 for my BT GPS. All works fine. No need to use the Blueooth tools software that was needed before.
So this is actually an improvement, but hard to notice unless one tries "the old fashioned way" with BT GPS.
Works like a charm......
I have not tried it with BT GPS, but looking at what everyone else went through with their Headsets and bonding issues, I can defintiely attest to the fact that the new BT Stack on 1.72WWE works great! I have never had to re-pair my Jabra BT 250 since I paired it the first time two weeks ago. I have also been able to ActiveSync over BT without any problems.
Lucky u guys, when i did the update, i cant active sync through BT

I have noticed the added WM function for BT GPS on COM5 (already with 1.66), however 'since' 1.66 I can not get my BT GPS to work with Alturion.
The strange things are:
- At first it still worked with 1.66 but a week after it failed and Alturion and I can not get it working since (incl. 1.72 upgrade).
- if I start Alturion the blue GPS LED starts flashing fast (green LED indicates satelite lock) which suggests BT connection, but still it says "NO GPS FOUND" all the time!
- With TT3 the GPS is working ok (with BT and serial profiles)
I dare not to hope, but if anybody has an idea please let me know. I prefer not to downgrade to 1.60 since I see many issues with this downgrade on this forum.

I can not remember that NO was an option. Do you mean this with the old fashion way???
Ronald
Hi guys
I'm guessing that the 1.7 upgrade is not avalable in Australia??? I cannot find it on the MyXDA website for download? is this update that you are talking about not for Australia/Asia?
Cheers...

You might need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to view the file. You can find the Acrobat Reader here.
dont try dow view the file in IE
Download it first and THEN view it
This works for me

Are you sure this isn't TomTom's GPS Driver causing this? TT's GPS Drivers since v2.08 have locked the BT Com Port for exclusive access by TomTom and this prevents other apps from accessing a BT GPS. Solutions are either install v2.07 which was the last driver that did not do this or remove 'the Tomtom~GPS' entry which is the culprit, removing this removes the BT Com Port lock but does not affect the use of TomTom.
@ griffog
Actually I use TomTom ~GPS 3.03 which does not have this problem anymore! Anyhow I still (temporarely) remove the TomTom ~GPS driver and soft-reset when I test with Alturion.
But thanx for the tip.
BTW it does effect the use of TomTom for me! I guess you have a serial (non BT) GPS !?
Ronald
No I use BT GPS unit's exclusively. I'll have to investigate this as I have not heard that v3.03 no longer has this problem!
@griffog
I have this information from the Dutch PocketPC-club TT forum.
It is also consistent with what I see since the TT3.03 upgrade, even while my other GPS application (Alturion) is not working. If I run TT GPS and close it and then start Alturion the Blue LED of the GPS starts flashing fast (sadly I still get "no GPS found" however).
Ronald
 remember you heard it first from me, the Premier GPS Resource
Excellent news! I've just loaded it up to test and you were right It's such good news that I've posted a front page news item, thanks
Indeed it was very good news.... but therefor also more disappointing for me that I don't get Alturion -my second GPS application- to work (on the eve of my holidays).
If you also use Alturion 5.3.1.4 (you seem in to GPS), can you share your configuration with me?
OS (1.66+?)?, BTHTools or WM serial BT profile? GPS? GPS config in Alturion? and anything else you might consider important.
I really need some new straws to grasp because I have no more ideas about what to try.
Ronald
Sadly Alturion hasn't made it across the channel. I'ce contacted them on numerous occasions for a review copy but never received a reply.
Another cool fix is the fact that you can now be connected through Activesinc using the cradle and at the same time now you can receive MMSs without a problem.
Before the 1.72 upgrade, you just couln't do that.
i have a xda2, which hasnt got the gps stauts feature installed,
when i connect my working haicom gps via tt3, it keeps saying gps disabled, but there is no where to set it as there are no icons, i have looked everywhere, i think my xda 2 dosnt offer that feature or its corrupt, i have done a hard reset but nothing happens, ive been trying for ages reinstalling the s/w and all sorts..
or i can i reinstall all the operating system back on the xda??,
i need some proper advise so any info will be appreciated as im a non techie
cheers in advance guys
You have to disable the beam option under your connections.
This is in 99% the problem why you canĀ“t access the comport where your gps reciever is connected.
Also there should be an GPS icon under Settings. There you have to set it to COM1 and the Haicom reciever...
HTH
Stefan
i have disabled the infrared beam, but there is no icon or no where in settings regarding the gps, it was there originally but since i have been messing around with it, i can not see it at all, i have done a hard reset but that does not do anything

Search in your device after a file TomTom GPS.
Otherwise try to reinstall the application....
have also treid that, and i still cant find it,
looks like its going back to warranty repair
is it possible to switch off the hardwarekeybord or uninstall the drivers??
thanks for your help.
Start / Settings / Connections tab and select Beam, turn off the receive all beams check box and that will have disabled the hardware keyboard (the keyboard still works but this action frees up the com port) mike

why would you want to??? :?:
I'd like to disable the KB so that TomTom5 will display its soft keyboard.
Tried the beam off and it didn't work. Must admit didn't think that it would though.
Anyone got an suggestions
Wayne
let us know how you get on. im not sure if someone has already tried it tho.
good luck
if it works i think i will do the same then i can re install tomtom5 as im back to using 3

just read this im sure this is not right. he wants to stop the device from recognising that it has a hard wired keyboard not an external one
OK fair point, I was pointing out the easy fix to get the wired GPS receiver unit to work - turn off IRdA, this will not as you correctly indicate force TT5 to use the on screen display keyboard, nothing will until they i.e. tomtom fix the situation - its just poor code untried and released on to the market - I would love to continue with vs3 but it will not work with my XDAIIs, vs 5 does (at last) but not hapy with the interface, lack of on screen keyboard and the inbuilt POI warner (speed cams etc) is rubbish compared to CheckPOI that I use on my ipaq-4700 - mike
Received this email back from TomTom support today.
"Thanks for your E-mail.
We are working on an update to solve the hardware keyboard problems and with 3rd party GPS receivers.
At the moment we can't give a release date but we hope in this month.
Please keep an eye on our wesbite for latest news."
Hopefully we should have a patch for TT5 this month
to mikealder
Just use overlays from checkpoint (copy ovl.files in tomtom dir)
Worked for me
Anybody find a way to disable the keyboard yet?
Found it, now I can use the on screen keyboard with TTN5
In register of PDA..
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell
Change..
HasKeyboard value from 1 to 0
upgrade to tomtom 5.1 solves the keyboard problem with XDA2s - go to tomtom web site to download update
After installing PhoneAlarm 2.13 I cannot send files via my windows XP computer to my HTC HD.
I can send files from the HD to the PC but not the other way round. In fact I can activesync using bluetooth and then use the activesync window on my PC to cut and paste files from the PC to the HTC but not by right clicking the file and then using the "send to" command.
I am positive that the problem is due to PhoneAlarm because when I uninstall it and hard reset my device everything seem starts working normally but again fails after PhoneAlarm installation.
Anyone else experiencing this problem and please help.
Regards
I had the same problem, could send files from my HD, but not to my HD.
Never installed PhoneAlarm though.
What I did to fix it:
- In Advanced Config, go to "Bluetooth". "Obex" was disabled. I enabled it, saved settings and did a soft-reset.
- In HD Tweak, also go to "Bluetooth". "Files reception" was disabled. I enabled it, saved settings and did a soft-reset.
Hope it solves your problems!
If I remember correctly you need to activate IRDA in the phonealarm settings to allow the bluetooth to work (I think it even mentions bluetooth next to the IRDA check box - odd but it then worked on mine)

This is correct. You need to activate IR in the profiles in PhoneAlarm you use to receive files over bluetooth.
No need for hard reset
I have had the same problem even after uninstalling phonealarm. No file receiving over bluetooth. Then I have re-installed phonealarm again, enable infrared and uninstall it. Everything works fine now. I think some changes in registry would have solve it too, but this is easier I mean.

To enable file transfer in registry:
HKLM\\Software\Microsoft\OBEX and change the IsEnabled value from 0 to 1
The OBEX_inbox.cab can also be useful if your rom lacks it.
Hello
i just got my desire and i have some questions regarding bluetooth use.
maybe im just not finding the right menus but im a little bit stuck
so first the setup and what i have done: i have a bluetooth gps receiver and im trying to connect it to my desire.
i searched, then paired
and after that i get paired but not connected.
a) so how do i connect ? tapping on it didnt do anything and holding got me a menu to unpair the device
b) after i connect how do i create a serial port ? as i understand serial port profile should be usable on android
c) is there a way to autoconnect ?
d) are there any special menus for bluetooth other than the settings menu ?
i'm coming from winmo and im a little bit stuck here
and related to that, is there even a navigation software that can make use of a bluetooth gps receiver ? it seems at least navigon has no option to change the source
thanks in advance
I've not tried with a gps receiver, but I have to ask, why? Is the built in gps no good?

The currently available navigation software all use the Android system location services to get GPS information, and therefore do not have an option to connect to an external GPS unit.
I'm sure it a navigation solution developer could code their app to use external GPS if they so choose, as the APIs are there, but given that most Android devices have built in GPS they probably can't be bothered as it probably has limited appeal (though I do understand why some people might want it).

Dave
hmm ok that answers some of my questions. thanks
what about the adding and connecting questions ?
