can you unlock Cingular 8525 without - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

can a Cingular 8525 be unlock without a sim card or does it need one
i want to install new roms on it
thanks

Flashing a rom
you don't need to worry about your sim card for flashing your rom........unlocking your sim card only means you can go to different providers that also have a sim card...like t-mobile....for example.....flashing your rom read the wiki or search the threads...I'm sure you'll find what your looking for...there is many different roms for the 8525....just make sure you install a HardSPL to unlock your cid
good luck
peace

cingular to orange???

i want to switch my network on my 8525 it has cingular but i want to change it to orange how can that be done ???
What do you mean by change? There is only one way to switch providers and that is to change out your sim card. in order to do this on a locked cingular 8525 u must first unlock it. do a search and you will find prof's unlocking tool. this will allow you to switch your sim card to which ever operator you wish.
hey buddy
in order to switch to Orange, you need to first SIM unlock your phone
no need to CID Unlock it - thats just for flashing other OS's
Heres a link to the WiKi on unlocking the Hermes
and then youll need to search for your Carrier Settings if your going to be using the internet on your phone
PS: Next time post in the base Hermes section or the upgrading section about the unlocking, this is the WM6 Directory
thanks man

Some questions - SIM unlock

Hello Guys,
This question may be a little noob for everyone here but I really need to understand couple(or 3) of things here:
1. What basically is a SIM lock? is it software lock or some kind of hardware(registers) lock ?
2. If I get a new (brand new) phone from Rogers canada .. say HTC S621 and I flash it with one of the custom ROMs like NRG's or Kavanas... will it also remove my SIM lock...?
Actually the reason I am asking these questions is ....
I already have a HTC S621 which I SIM unlocked from some site for 30 some dollars about a year back. I was with Rogers rom at that time.
Now I upgraded to NRG remade rom .. so is my phone still SIM unlocked.... ?
if somebody could answer these questions.. I would really appreciate...
If you paid $30 for it, it is most likely a Sim unlock, which allows you to use others sim cards. CID unlock is a free app that is floating around here somewhere, and it is just a software unlock that allows you to put others Roms on your phone. For example, mine is a tmobile dash that is still sim locked to tmobile, but I have ahd Rogers, HTC, and multiple kitchen roms on it without any problems. Sim unlock would allow me to use an AT&T or other type of carriers sim card in it as well, but I dont need that.
Your phone will still be Sim unlocked if it has been unlocked in the past.
Does this answer your questions?
My Mistake
Hey god speed...
pardon my mistake .. i just made a fool out of myself....
Please replace CID with sim lock... I wrote the question keeping in mind Sim lock but I dont know y on the earth I kept on writing CID...
Sorry for wrong question... I will edit that...
My basic question is
1. Does flashing a ROM on a SIM Locked phone breaks the SIM LOCK? and
2. If My phone is with Rogers , I got it Sim Unlocked by paying 30 bucks.. and then reflashed to NRG Rom.. is it still locked or unlocked..
Thanks again....
flashing a new rom does not break the sim lock (or unlock in your case). Your good to go
Thanks go speed.....
I appreciate
no problem, just trying to give back where I can. Enjoy 6.1, its a whole new world!

a couple of noob questions. hope you guys can help

i had previously accidentally posted this in the xperia section but i meant for it to be here but
im getting my tilt 2 tommorow
i ordered it online from amazon contract free ($500)
so i have some questions
1. is it sim unlocked? or will i have to go get an unlock code from att
2. will it automatically add a data plan if i put in my att sim card onto it?
(if so is there a way to bypass this)
3. whats hte diffference between cid unlocking and sim unlocking. is there away to do both in 1 method
No, it isn't SIM unlocked.
No, it will not add a data plan to your AT&T account if you put the SIM in.
SIM unlock allows you to use other SIMs in your device. CID unlocking allows you to flash any signed HTC ROM (For example, you could flash a Vodafone or a TMobile USA ROM on your Tilt2). CID unlocking really isn't necessary for most people since most people use HardSPL, but you can SIM, Security, and CID unlock with this tool here. It costs money for most people, but it's really worth it since it does all three types of unlocks.
Since you are new to the HTC Rhodium, I encourage you to read the wiki article and all stickies posted around the Rhodium forums, as well as the annoucement at the top. Hope that helps

1. ok thankyou so i shud ask att for an unlock code if i want to use it in china?/out of US
2. ohreally? i wasnt sure about this because when i went to att store and asked to buy a contract free tilt2, the guy said that they wud add a 30 dollar data plan to my line so it was really confusing
3. what about all of these roms that people are making on this forums do i need to cid unlock to use them?
oh new question are all these roms on the internet like windowsmobile specific? like will 1 rom work with 6.1 and another work with 6.5 or do they all work together
You could use an unlock code from AT&T, or use the tool I linked to in my post. As I said, it's $15, but it's very much worth it since it SIM unlocks, the money is used for good purposes, and it CID and Security unlocks as well.
While they may try to sell you a data plan when you buy it, they can't add a data plan when you insert your SIM
A CID unlock is not required to use the cooked ROMs on this forum. To use the custom ROMs on this forum, you need HardSPL. CID unlocking only allows you to use signed HTC ROMs, meaning that you can flash a TMobile ROM onto your AT&T Tilt while still running stock bootloader. However, CID unlocking won't let you run the custom ROMs you'll find online, since they aren't signed by HTC.
I'm afraid I don't understand your last question, sorry.
oh i mean do all of these roms work with windows mobile 6.5 and 6.1? or only one and not the other
All ROMs are only Windows Mobile 6.1 or only 6.5. If you flash a 6.5 ROM onto you device, you will be running windows mobile 6.5. Same for 6.1. There is no way for two versions of WM to coexist on the same device (that I know of).
where do i put cab files?

The ROM totally replaces everything (including Windows) on the device.

You put them on the device. To install them, you browse to them in File explorer mobile, then tap on them, and they will install.

Follow the instructions here, and skip over the HardSPL part if you've already HardSPL'd.
Also, since you've finally recieved your device, I encourage you to read the Rhodium Wiki, as well as all the stickies around the forum.

Perhaps a simple question

This might be a less then educated question however, is there a way to enter an unlock code without using a non carrier specific SIM card. I have a T-Mobile TP2 and have the unlock code for it however, I have no interest or access to another carriers SIM card. I just want to plash ROMS not change providers… The current OS on the device is the TM issued Win Mo 6.5….
Any Help Would Be Appreciated….
Thank You
You must pay for a SIM unlock code, then you can flash another ROM.

you are thinking of a sim unlock not a carrier unlock.
to flash a rom you have to be carrier unlocked and have hard spl. that is totally separate from sim unlocking.

[Q] Noob Question RE: Unlocking

I am new to both tweaking my phone and also new to this forum.
I feel I have to ask this question because I don't want a brick!
I obtained an unlock code from T-Mobile and unlocked my phone that way.
Do I still have to flash Hard-SPL for any reason? Is there something about it that will make flashing a new rom easier or more stable?
There are various forms of "unlocking" on the phone. The unlock code you get from your carrier is to SIM unlock the phone. This allows you to use the phone with a SIM card from other GMS carriers.
You still need to HardSPL the phone to flash any custom ROMs. SPL locks the phone to only be able to flash official T-Mob branded ROMs. So HardSPL unlocks it so you can flash any ROM. Completely different from the SIM unlock.
Moved as not ROM Development.
