Hi all, my new BA arrived finally! I have decided to keep it afterall. I am a total n00b at this stuff, and really struggle to understand the Wiki site. However, I did manage to download XDA tools and backup my ROM.
I then downloaded the PDA2k_WWE_14000_176_11200 ROM from the FTP site. It said it was going to update my Radio and Ext. ROM too. Anyhow, it comes up with the country code error.
I added that line of script into the file but it still has the error. Any ideas? I thought the iMate 1.40 ROM was supposed to work on the XDA2s.
I really want a more stable device. Are there any other ways to do this? I tried using XDA Tools to upload the NK part of the iMate ROM separately, but it said it needed to be an exact size to work.
What is the best ROM? We couldn't even figure out how to cook and Ext. ROM so if anyone could give me a hand it would be much appreciated. The Wiki assumes you know what you're doing but I really have no idea.
Cheers guys - Mike x
You don't need to use XDA Tools it you're using a standard manufacturers ROM, just the No ID program for the device ID shortcut.
I had to add the country code ID in too, but after that it was golden. Not sure what's up with you...
Chris
If you are on O2 UK and want the imate ROM that also has O2 settings for GPRS, MMS etc, have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=24000&highlight=
It's a set of instructions that I made using the wiki, as well as info other members had given me, particularly mdaIIIuser to upgrade a UK O2 XDA IIs to the imate 1.40 without having to enter GPRS settings etc manually afterwards, and still keeping the country code to O2 (which means you can use an official O2 upgrade later , without any problems, if they ever get their arses in gear!)
If you need any more help, let me know and I'll do what I can. If you have an ftp site you want me to upload my upgrade files to, PM me with the details and I'll send it you. I'd put in on the ftp here, but i don't think it's worth taking up so much space with a customised ROM.
HTH,
Fin
OK guys, I managed to upgrade my device to the latest iMate ROM, and the 1.13 radio ROM
Problem now is cooking my Ext. ROM. I know I can't update the Ext. ROM that came with the iMate ROM. I want to put my 02 settings in, but I really don't know how. It won't let me put my old 02 image back on the phone, it says the USB is not connected properly
Does anyone have the .nb1 of the 02 Ext. ROM?
Sack that. I downloaded the newest 02 Rom I could find and extracted just the ext. Rom file from the .exe
I am learning
which o2 rom did you use? if it was the uk rom you will have problems as it is 1.31 and your rom is 1.40. you need to unlock the extended rom and copy the base rom 1.40*147 then add your o2 cabs and anything else

Hey thanks Findus, your guide was great.
Yea, I put the 02 1.3 extended ROM on. I didn't know what else to do.
Do you mean the base extended ROM of the iMate 1.40 ROM I put on? I tried that, and there is no Config.txt in the iMate extended ROM.
Sorry, I don't understand this too well

I did not do anything with upgradetools.rar but the device seems to be working fine. I haven't made a call yet as I'm cut off. Does this mean I don't have to do it?

Glad to have helped, although I can't take credit, I got all the info from thw wiki and other posts!
Have just been trying to upload my Extended ROM, it is a modified version of Cooked ERK 1.4x Base that can be found in the wiki under ERK 1.40 . This version of the EXT ROM does have a config.txt, you were probably looking at 1.40.176? All I did was add the 6/7 O2 CABS to the config.txt of the base rom, then changed the caller id cab to 1.20 from the link below:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/CAB_Files/Caller ID/IA_CallerID_1.20_WWE.CAB
You will probably have some problems with the Ext ROM you have on at the moment, because you haven't got any of the patches for 1.40 which might mean GPRS etc might be unstable.
I will try and upload my Ext ROM again later if you want, all you will need to do is unlock your ext rom, delete the files, and copy over the new files. DO a hard reset and you're away!
Good luck!
Fin
OK, I don't understand.
I just delete all the files (aside from the 02 setup ones) of my current ROM and put these ones in? I don't need to upgrade the Ext. ROM bith the BAUpdate thing?
No, you won't use the BA Upgrade itility- that is for reflashing, which if you had a ms_.nbf file(extended ROM installation file) you would need. There is no tool to edit ms_.nbf files on Blue Angel, instead you have to unlock the Ext ROM manually, copy/delete files, update the config.txt then do a hard reset. Takes some getting used to- I was used to using er2003edit with my Himalaya to make a custom ms_.nbf file, but hey, this method works too!
Good luck,
Fin
Hey man, I already did it! Well good! It's based on the Qtek ROM you reccommended with the o2 stuff added in and the caller ID updated.
now running:
ROM version: iMate 1.40.00 WWE
ROM date: 03/10.05
Radio version: 1.13,00
Protocal version: 1337.42
ExtROM: 1.40.147 based on the Qtek cooked for use on 02 UK
My phone hasn't required a single hard reset all day and is still recieving calls (with sound) and messages
Thanks everyone!

Hi
I am about to get an XDAIIs to replace my falling apart PDA2K.
I want to use it on Vodafone.
Is there a real 'idiots' guide to putting the latest and greatest ROM onto the XDAIIs.
(I really do mean idiots guide by the way).
Cheers.

Hi,
I changed my MDA Pro to the Qtek-Rom and the Radio to the 1.04.10
If you do so, also the language will be changed (from German to English) and the Keyboard-Layout ((Quertz to Querty) which you can resolve with some registry-hacks).
My device is running more stable and has more memory (Qutek is without any branding)

is it possible to explain me execly what i have to do because i am not familiar whit this software changing
you would help me allot
cheers
Will be no problem to help you - but this way I need some details:
Which kind of keyboard do you have? QWERTZ or QWERTY (look at your keyboard ant the first 5 letters are important).
You've to download the following files:
UNI_Qtek_WWE_11364_151_10300_Ship.exe
MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
radio_1.4.10.zip
which all can be found at the ftp-server of the developers
ftp://[email protected]/Universal/
but you've to look in all folders (Roms + shipped Roms)
Make a new folder on your PC (maybe update)
Use WinRar to expand "UNI_Qtek_WWE_11364_151_10300_Ship.exe" to this folder
Copy "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" to "update"
Delete the radio.nbf in "update"
Expand "radio_1.4.10.zip" to "update"
REMOVE every card from your MDA (SD + SIM)!!!
Connect your MDA
Run "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe"
if there is an error (mostly language...) run "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" again without changing everything!
After the update-prozess, you don't have to disturb the installation of the programs (it's only usefull stuff, no branding).
Change the key-respons from QWERTY to QWERTZ:
Use a registry-program like resco explorer with registry add-in and change the following key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
change: Layout from 66569 to 66567
You can also change the soft-keyboard, but I'll tell later because I've to go!
Good luck!!!
Teja
if you got
Now at home with MDA Pro:
Here is the link how to change the symols in the soft-keyboard:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=34398
Some things cannot be changed in the soft-keyboard but that's no matter!
Have a nice weekend,

Hello Teja,
The site you give here requires password.
I looked here:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Universal/
But can't find the mentionned files.
Other thing did you perform a backup of your original ROM? If yes how?
Thank you
No, I didn't perform a backup, and I think it isn't possible at the moment.
Here are the direct links. Hope they'll work:
ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Universal/MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Universal/ROMs/radio_1.4.10.zip
ftp://xdaupload:[email protected] ROMs/UNI_Qtek_WWE_11364_151_10300_Ship.exe
Maybe you should copy the whole links in your browser and it'll work. I use firefox 1.5 and I'm able to browse on the ftp-server...
Have a nice week and good luck!
Teja
Thank you!
Hello Teja,
Those links are working fine.
Thank you!

Sorry I made a mistake: I gave you the link for a old radio-update...
Here is the correct one (I also edited my post):
ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Universal/ROMs/radio_1.4.10.zip
If you've allready done the updates, you can make the radio-update without loosing any datas:
rename all *.nbf to *.old and copy the new radio-file in your update-folder. Run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe (maybe twice) again.
The MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe will only show the radio-update!
Just do it - after finishing, soft-reset your device (no hard-reset is necessary).
Enjoy the new update!
Teja
hee teja the first letters are qwerty and i have a mda pro tmobile simlocked
Ihave everything downloaded also the resco.
i don,t have to worry a bout stuck in the bootloader and things??
i,ll have to work so i am gonna give it a try tommorow.

Hey,
I first felt into Boodloader-Modus, but it was my own fault. It took a long time to solve the problem, but it was very easy:
REMOVE ALL CARDS FROM YOUR DEVICE! SD + SIM!
My one was "Net-Locked" and I've never heard about problems with "Sim-Locked" (but I always was not interested in)...

Error while radio/complete update
Hi,
today i tried to update the radio on my mda pro:
- I removed the SD and the SIM card.
- I did a reset
- I started the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe 2 times
- the upgrade started but stayed on 0 % for 5 minutes
- then it stopped with an error and I still got the original version
I tried this 3 times and I even tried to do a complete update as it is suggested here and always got the same error message.
Can this be because of active sysnc, the virus scan program or the cable (although it is the original cable)? Do I need Active Sync for the upgrade or can I stop it somehow?
Hi,
it is suppost to close "Active Sync" (by Task-Manager) and to disable the firewall / antivirus, but I never had problems without doing so...
Is your MDA in BL-Modus when you want to update (blank screen) or is it still in "normal" modus?
Maybe you've the possibility to use an old computer/notebook without any programs running on?
Teja
Radio update problems
Hi again,
it is in blank screen mode - but if you look very closely (the backlight is off) the screen sys something like updating radio... please wait.
and what happens?
nothing happens - just an error after 5 minutes
I tried it with the bootloader mode afterwards and then it worked with the radio update. afterwards i tried the full update with bootloader screen - but it only worked the second time...
It's written in this topic that you've to run the update 2 times ==> so it works perfect! Congratulations!
Teja
Teja, thanks for your mini howto guide above. I am now installing the Qtek rom on my MDA Pro.
However you should realise that only germans use QWERTZ keyboard layout, the dude who started this topic is dutch, so am I, we use QWERTY. So the info on that part is somewhat useless.
But thanks again
(I am not responsible for any damage you might do to your device using this guide)
I tried flashing with the NoID tool several times, yet it always failed, or my Universal would not boot after the flash.
The regular T-Mobile update utility did work like a charm, and never failed on my. Thus I created a little tutorial on how to convert wrong ROMs to ROMs it will accept.
In this Example I will explain how to use an O2 XDA Exec ROM (and a different radio ROM) on a T-Mobile MDA Pro device
It's easiest to start with a clean directory to do all this as else it can get quite messy.
First, get the HTC64 Extended ROM Tool by Bal666 here:
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,100/func,fileinfo/id,196/
Next get an original ROM for your device, in my case I used the T-Mobile UK ROM as my device was english anyway.
For example, on the T-Mobile MDA Pro UK (or dutch) version, use "UNI_TMUK_11242_126_10002_Ship.exe" (find it yoursef)
Use WinRAR (http://www.rarlabs.com/) to unpack this file to a new directory called "Original", and unpack it again to a directory named "Converted".
The Original directory will be used to check things, and the Converted directory will be used to store all the roms that we have converted
Next we must find the ROMs we want to flash. I got "Xda_Exec_LaunchROM_v113139.exe" and Unpacked it in a directory named "O2", and "UNI_radio_1.08.00.rar" (from buzzdev.net) and unpacked it into "Radio Update".
First we must find out some things about our original ROMs. For each original ROM in the "Original" directory, follow the next steps:
- Open the HTC64 Extended ROM Tool
- Click Decode
- Open the ROM (.nbf file)
- Write down the values after "Operator Name" and "Language"
- Hit Cancel
Now we must modify the ROMs from the other distributions.
From the O2 directory we will use nk.nbf (OS) and ms_.nbf (Extended ROM), and from the Radio Update directory we will use radio_.nbf (Updated Radio ROM).
For each ROM you want to convert, follow the following steps:
- Open HTC64 Extended ROM Tool
- hit Decode
- Open the ROM
- In "Operator Name" and "Language" fill in what you wrote down earlier
- Hit Decode
- (on the begin screen) Hit Encode
- Open the .prj file you just created (same name as ROM, but with extensio .prj)
- Hit Encode
- if asked "Overwrite existing ROM", choose "Yes"
- if asked "Fat16 file is too large", choose "OK"
- When done, copy the over-written .nbf file from the directory you created it in (like O2 or Radio ROM) to the Converted directory. Choose to overwrite the existing file.
When all is done, run the ROMUpgradeUT.exe in the Converted directory, and follow the instructions.
If all goes well, you should have upgraded your ROM without having to CID-Unlock or use NoID tools that were originally made for another device
If before the actual upgrade your PC says it has found an unrecognized USB Device, close the RomUpgradeUT.exe with task manager (ctrl+alt+del), and reset your device (push the stylus in the hole at the backside). Then re-run the ROMUpgradeUT.exe
Credits go to iruja because he helped me find these tool
Let me know if it also worked on your device
EDIT: Stupid me, HTC64 Extended ROM Tool is by bal666
EDIT2: Note on "Unrecognized USB Device"
EDIT3: Added credits
Nice Job! Good, Clear and informative instructions.
he, leuke guide, die ken ik ergens van
Nice people like my way, this is the same way I test different roms for the wizard, without having to cid unlock the phone and loose warranty
Thank you "TheBlasphemer"
wow, I searched this forum for a few hours trying to understand how to install roms from other developers onto my Universal. It was driving me insane cause i kept on recieving country id errors. I found your post and was delighted to find how easy it really is to upgrade roms. Thank you for helping people like me who have no clue. Thanks, Thanks and More thanks. I also give shout outs to all others in this forum who take time to help others. XDA Developers is awesome! I'm surprised that developer sites dont link to xda developers for their customers. It would save them alot of time and money. Peace
Great Instructions
Many thanks for the great instructions.
I tried to flash my T-Mobile MDA Pro to the latest i-Mate rom and it became stuck in the Bootloader mode (I used the No-ID tool, and tried every type of reset). Fortunately this approach works, and I'm now the proud over of an much faster PDA.
Rom: 1.30.68 WWE 02/08/06
Radio: 1.09.00
Protocol: 42.42.P8
ExtRom: 1.30.153 WWE
The original T-Mobile Rom sucks compared to these i-Mate Roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42743
Excellent
Crystal clear instructions. worked like a charm once I found the Orange operator code is ORANG007. The "Orange" ROM on ftp appears to be a hash of 3 other versions as the operator names are QTEK001 and CDC__ something or other....
Thanks again for the excellent, no hassle upgrade method!
This procedure will be working on MDA Vario (QTek9100) ?
I have a QTEK 9000 that is in Spanish OS. There is no available downloadable shipping ROM so how do i get the values of Operator Name and Language? Are they in the registry=?
Tried this on my MDA pro NL which is stuck in boot screen, but no dice
I used however the init UK rom from T-mobile, not the NL which was my official one. I don't have a NL so I maybe if I use that one, it'll work, but Im afraid not
Viper, I also have a NL version and would like to upgrade my MDA...did you have any luck doing so or did you find the original dutch ROM?
(A stupid question: when I upgrade my rom, i assume that all my data is lost, right?)
Just wondering did you all upgrade your devices with the exe that came with the new ROM, or the one that comes from the phone vendor?
Kinda wondering should I use the one that comes with the QTek ROM, or should I use the one that came with the Dopod ROM (mine's a Dopod)
wow, how easy was that
the orange updater from the net (M5000_email.exe M5000) creates a temp directory called
\Local Settings\Temp\pft3CA.tmp\
run the orange updater program so it extracts the files, DONT CLOSE IT, leave it at the point where you make it update (don't hit next)
now follow the steps of the OP
simply decode your chosen rom, encode them with the correct info, then overwrite the roms in the temp directory with your required ones
then let the orange app install 'em for you!
took me 10 min to make my radio only to 1.09
hi guys
my MDA Pro dead, only show boot mode. i can't turn on my phone. i'm using all rom files. but no result. please help me how repar my phone. i'm use then solution no result. i can't change my phone lang. detect phone show only empty info. help me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
siemens man??
why that name, do you work for 'em?
hi guys
thank you for reply mail. all problem solved. now good working
thanks to Buzz
Thank you verry much i'm verry happy with the Qtek-ROM (radio of Dopod 900) instead of the T-mobile rom
And now I have MSN
Im going to upgrade my MDA PRO tonight using the instrutions in this thread, but which is the best ROM to update it to? i suppose i would like push mail and msn messenger/hotmail.
also is there a slightly more stable internet browser in the ROMS? my current IE is not very good, and opera has the habbit of coming up with a not enough storage memory in dll error!
XDA EXEC is dead
I received my xda exec two days ago. I've tried the ROM upgrade as described. ROMUpgradeUT went OK. When I cold boot my device I get two options - Press 0 to restore factory default Press X to exit. Neither have any effect and the exec seems to be dead. Can someone help out or suggest a fix please?
It's alive !!!
Managed to get the exec in boatloader mode, plugged in usb and reflashed it with an original O2 rom, which, thankfully revived it. I still would like to find out what went wrong with the original ROM upgrade and why it 'killed' the exec. I followed the instructions to the letter. My orignal pre-installed ROM was a 1.13.82 (11/30/05), Radio 1.04.02, XROM 1.13.188. I tried to upgrade to JASJAR ME 1.30.82 171 10900 WWE ship ROM, which effectively turned my exec into (I quote) 'a very expensive paperweight'. I now have got it working with an older O2 original ROM (ROM 1.13.48 (09/19/05), Radio 1.04.02, XROM 1.13.139). When I tried to flash I overwrote the 'original' (ROM 1.13.48 (09/19/05), Radio 1.04.02, XROM 1.13.139) with the modified ROM, RADIO and XROM files from the JASJAR version, I didn't replace any dll files. Could this be the problem or am I way off target? Can anyone spot were I messed up here. Tonight I will try with another JASJAR upgrade, now that I know I can safely reflash with an oringal O2 ROM.
anyone know where i can get ROMUpgradeUT.exe tool from?
Hello there, yes... I'm a n00b when it comes to ROM upgrades.
I'm relatively experienced when it comes to computers and PDA's, but browsing through this forum, I have to admin, I'm lost...
I have an Orange M5000, locked to Orange (I think). Can anyone give me some simple steps of what I should do to upgrade to the latest and fastest ROM version? (I'm currently on 1.30.90 - R1.09.00).
Help would be much appreciated.
**EDIT** Okay, so the instructions are these ones right -
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...tion On How To Upgrade with Bootloader method
But what ROM should I be using? Thanks.
You might want to try the link at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Upgrades
at Orange UK for the proper way of upgrading to the official ROM, which is an EXE file. That's the easiest.
If you want to get going with the newest ROM's (and are prepared to take the associated risks!) then my recommendation for the process you should follow is this...
First, download the tool at: http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=100&func=fileinfo&id=288
Follow the instructions in the .rar file. This will SIM unlock your M5000 so that you can use any SIM card in it, but also makes your M5000 "SuperCID" - Meaning that you can upgrade to ANY HTC Universal ROM (QTek, O2, imate, etc, etc) without all the hassle!
Then:
1) Download whichever ROM you're interested in
2) Put your M5000 in bootloader mode (by holding the Backlight and Power buttons while poking the reset button).
3) Connect your USB cable to your phone and PC
4) From your downloaded (and extracted) ROM archive you need to run "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" or "ROMUpgradeUt.exe" - whichever was included - it won't matter because your device is "SuperCID" so you wont get any of the Country or Device errors that people often complain about.
Wait for 5 minutes while it all ticks along, do a hard reset, and you're all done!
You may find that your device still installs a load of unneeded cab files after the initial setup. This is because of the "Extended Rom" area where manufacturers put all of their own modifications.
You can use the tool found here: http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=100&func=fileinfo&id=205 to unlock the "Extended ROM" and the cab files found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=985428&postcount=373 to make it visible within File Explorer.
Then you can delete any (or every) file that's in there. I'd strongly recommend deleting everything if you'll be trying out an AKU3.X or WM6 ROM.
Okay, but I think Orange are a bit behind things...
I was about to try 2.04 PDAVIET UNI PRO. Is this a bad idea for me?
**EDIT** To the second reply, thanks, I'll give that a go
Basically, don't try using any Crossbow ROMs if you need your device for anything important. They're far too flakey at the moment (even the half decent ones).
Go for an AKU3.3 ROM for stability and speed (or possibly AKU3.5 - though they're a little bit buggier).
Crossbow ROMs will get better. Come back for that in a month or two (or three....four.....)
I wouldn't say I do use it for anything important... 1 or 2 calls a day (not business) SatNav once or twice a month. The calendar and ListPro are probably the most used things on my PDA...
Speed is what's annoying me at the moment though. It takes so long to redraw the screen when I spin it for example.
Where can I find an AKU3.3 download then?
Sorry, work tore me away from the forum for a while...
Go here: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/Cooked_ROMs/
There are four folders in there where you'll find a mixture of AKU3.2, 3.3, and 3.5 ROMs by Helmi, Ivan, JWright, and Indra. Personally, I like stripped down ROM's so my own favourite is Helmi's V1.3.1 ROM.
There are plenty of other opinions if you look at the related threads though...
Helmi: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284887
Indra: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285488
Ivan: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=287270
JWright: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279258
If you have a look at the first (and possibly second) post in each of those threads, you can see what's in the ROM and what isn't. Take your pick. As far as speed goes, you will find all of them are noticably faster than any of the official Orange ROMs.
I've actually successfully installed WM6. It's a lot quicker than WM5, so I'm happy
Yep, WM6 is a lot faster than the official WM5 ROM's.
The WM5 "AKU3.X" ROM's are even faster though and - for now at least - generally less buggy...
Looking at how you say you use your phone, you shouldn't find too much to worry about with WM6 - even this early on (and it looks nicer!).
Glad it went ok for you!
Sub69, Thanks, thanks, thanks!!! My problem was solved with the backlight + power + hard reset... A million thanks friend.
Looking to become a regular member here. With a little time hope I can contribute something meaningful as well
I wanted to upgrade the radio on my stock O2 Ignito as I read that 1.00.25.BS14 may be better at getting a GPS fix.
After reading all the [TUT]s and asking some noob questions I still wasn't sure *exactly* what steps and which files were necessary.
I tried copying the .nbh file from the zipped archive of radio 1.00.25.BS14 from here to my \Internal Storage and, using the tutorial here, I tried to flash my radio without using ActiveSync.
That DID NOT WORK, because the stock SPL in my phone wouldn't allow the flash to take place. (NOTE: I'm sure it would work fine if I had the correct HardSPL already installed)
I bit the bullet and realised that I had to upgrade the stock SPL to Hard-SPL which means a hard reset.
I found the Hard-SPL Dev Editions here (2nd post)
I read the instructions several times which suggested that, for my stock O2 Ignito 1.93 SPL, I should upgrade to V1.93 OliNex using 1/Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex.zip & 2/RUU_Signed_1_93OliNex_HSPL_UnsignedEdition.zip
To assemble the correct files for the upgrade I unzipped both packages to my laptop PC and then replaced the .nbh file in the 1st package (which is V1.4) with the .nbh file from the 2nd package (which is 1.93).
I then followed the EXCELLENT instructions in the [TUT]Complete upgrading guide (HardSPL+Radio+ROM)and successfully upgraded my radio from 1.00.25.05 to 1.00.25.BS14
It may be a little better, time will tell
I posted this to maybe help those of us with the UK Ignito with SPL 1.93, Radio 1.00.25.05 who might be a little confused about how to do this.
Now I just need to update my sig

you are a good example of how all users should be: without starting first a useless thread, read, read, read, did what he started doing and without asking more stupid questions or starting another useless thread he is posting his experience trying to help others with the same task. i wish more like you!
I found that installing Quickgps from Swtos made a huge difference to the time to get a fix.

Shouldn't be necessary as O2 provide the ephemeris data through normal GSM channels to the Qualcomm chipset
Having said that I'd be willing to try QuickGPS that installs and works specifically with an Ignito.
Link please
I've tried a couple of QuickGPS links previously but they wouldn't install

That is what I thought but when I found a quickgps that worked ok, as I said the difference was noticeable instantly.

Ta, I'll try it
EDIT: Blimey Mike, you're not kidding, my Ignito was taking 30 secs on a good day and up to 10 mins on a bad one to get a fix. As soon as I soft reset and downloaded the packedephemeris I got a fix in about 5 seconds.
All Ignito owners should take note and try this. N.B. You *have* to soft reset *before* QuickGPS will connect to the servers!!
I owe you a real life pint for this one pal

Glad to help Cozzy, but credit to Swtos, I also tried a few different quickgps cabs, and some registry tweaks, and it was only when I found this one that it worked.
Don't know why o2 left it out in the first place.
I have now ditched the o2 rom and am using Swtos 1.6 light with HTC home, and SPB phone suite for the wireless and profile managers, which I find more familiar and easier to use.
I also have a rom with 2d manilla on my orbit, and much prefer this to 3d manilla. If there was a rom for the Diamond using 2d Manilla I would be interested in that.
Still using stock radio though .05
Mike.
Just got my ignito yesterday and want to make sure I install hard spl correctly
