Any sighting of 16GB Micro SD Card Announcements? - General Accessories

I just saw this report from CES (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/01/06/ces_panasonic_32gb_sdhc/) regarding Panasonic announcing a 32GB SD Card. Micro SD Cards seems to track SD cards at about 50% capacity (i.e. we currently have 16GB SD and 8GB Micro SD) so it seems to me that maybe there should be a 16GB Micro SD card announcement somewhere that I haven't seen, or one coming soon.
Does anyone know of anyone who has announced a 16GB Micro SD card?
- Julian
P.S. I note with Panasonic's announcement that they have now hit the limit of the SDHC standard in terms of addressing range. I was always disappointed when I saw the 32GB limit on the spec, it struck me as far too short sighted. Ah well, maybe in a year there'll be yet another SD spec.

I saw that (16gb micro card) somewhere. just search on the forum, I'm sure you'll find it here!

Haven't seen anything yet. Eagerly awaiting them though, nearly used up my 8GB with napster lovelyness. After SD HC I read something about the next standard being SD SHC (Super High Capacity). But definitely no annoucements about that yet.

SD's naming convention also seems short sighted. Where's it going to go... Super Massive Huge High Capacity SD? Surely it's time they just gave it version numbers.

I can't find it. I already searched for 16GB SD card and just did a search for 16GB micro card. What comes up are references to 16GB SD cards (but not Micro SD cards which is the format I need) and some posts from people eagerly awaiting/anticipating 16GB Micro SD cards but I didn't find anything that actually spoke about any manufacturer having announced such a device.
Sorry if I'm just useless at choosing my search terms, I would love to be proved wrong, so if anyone can give me a link to a post that has the info I'm trying to find then that would be great.

Here's something i found for 16 GB SDHC.
http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/07/microdia-launches-16gb-sdhc-card-your-pocketbook-weeps-for-sham/
I know 12 GB Micro SDHC are already been confirmed. Just no price or dates yet. But my guess would be Q2 or Q3 by the latest.

Thanks for that. I think the first (2007 Microdia) announcement is regular SDHC and not in the micro form factor but your second Sandisk link is exactly what I was hoping for and, since it is from the last week's CES show, is pretty much the timing I was expecting.
I just did a bit more Googling now and found a link, actually posted on another forum here, that has more details of last week's Sandisk announcement. Aparently the 12GB they showed last week at CES is just a proof of concept for CES and when it ships it will be a 16GB card and is expected to hit the streets in June, price not yet disclosed. I think I saw that one soon after the Sandisk announcement. They just stuck it on there assuming they'd be bound to have one by then.
I was kind of hoping to see "In stock by ......" messages at the usual places by now, too.

Hi, any news on 16 gb micro sdhc? I have 4 gb, too small, and do not want to upgrade to anything smaller than 16 GB - is there any chance to buy it anywhere?
Thanks for help!

I hope the cards will be available soon. In above mentioned store following is stated:
This product will be in stock on Wednesday 31 December, 2008.
I hope not. I hope that time my 16gb card (which I need to buy first) to be almost full

Sandisk
I pre ordered the 12gb sd micro card, which was supposed to come out back in March. I was then refunded my money when my purchasing company told me SanDisk opted for a 16gb card instead.
So here we are now, July and still no 16gb card.
I plan on using it for my Sirius Stilleto 2 Satellite radio. I can't wait either, I'm gonna sell my ipod as soon as I can.
Still no word on when, but I was told that it should be released by August by the company I ordered from previously.

/drool. I want 16gb... I have a 4gb now and was considering getting an 8.. but I wonder if it might be worthwhile to hold out for the 16.. if nothing else, to drop the 8's really low too.

Last I heard was Sandisk saying they were manafacturing the cards and they were due for release in June.... still nothing I see.
Any one else got up to date news on this?
Cant wait to get my hands on a 16Gb but 32Gb much nicer Will there be a yet smaller newer card beyond microSDHC or will we be seeing microSD a long time yet?

I lost my Tytn and 8gb card last weekend. I plan to buy a used Tytn and I'm eagerly waiting for the 16GB cards to come out. I'm just posting here so updates will be sent to me...

Just wanted to know if anyone had heard anything. We should be at least hearing the "my friend got one from his friend" type of rumours by now.

Any of you guys tried this card with Desire?
Would like to know if it's worth it...
I think the "speed class" of it or whatever is on 2. If that makes any difference.
@Mods, if this thread is posted in wrong place, please move it. Thank you!
The maximum storage capacity on the Desire is 32GB so I don't see why not.
Please search before posting next time.
speed class for me makes a difference asi use the camer and video. higher class = higher potential transfer speeds
Opps sorry about that. Totally forgot about searching :S
The memory card that came with the Desire is only class 2 anyway so just gauge it by that.
Yes, I'm using one. No problems at all. And I'll be getting a 32gb one when they become available in a few weeks, at about £100, as opposed to SanDisk charging £150 now.
@92sky
Funny that you mention 32gb, because I looked around and couldn't find any :S All I could find were 16gb
@Alex
Yes I'm aware of that, but is it really that noticeable IRL? or more of the benchmark munching nitpicking diffs?

Expansys, Play.com, MyMemory and Mobile Fun are all listing it at around £99, for late April/early May delivery. I phoned Mobile Fun yesterday who said that it was due now, but has been delayed because of the volcano.

EVERYTHING is delayed because of the lil' ol' cano it seems.

@gogol
Aren't they expensive like there is no tomorrow?
Using a 16gb class 6 sandisk as well and I have to agree it works like a charm.
I remember reading somewhere that 32gb sdhc cards aren't supported atm, but will be shortly on the desire.
Not sure though, but do a search for it before you plunge into forking out the cash for one of those.
I do remember reading, either here or on another forum, that someone had bought their 32gb direct from SanDisk, and said it worked with no problems.

Any good sources for a 32GB micro SD?

We are less than two weeks from Samsung Focus's (Foci) being available in the US. Does anybody have any leads to reputable retailers for class 6 32GB micro SD's?
No Ebay fakes like we have several threads for in here, but the genuine deal, preferably the Samsung variant, but leads to other reputable makers would be welcome as well.
Very interesting quote from MS about why they did not want microSD's used in their WP7 phones and why the Samsung Focus is the only model to have a user upgradeable microSD. This may be a bit of fear mongering but it points out what we already know. Buy a reputable class 6 card and test it before you put it in your phone.
“In most cases, users will have issues,” . “Most cards are of poor quality, and there’s no way we can control that or recommend a certain type of card. If you happen to get a good card, with the right performance and IO characteristics, it will work reliably. But even a bad card will appear to work at first, and the device will boot.”
A bad card will apparently result in “horrible, unreliable performance, slow app boot times and performance, lock-ups, and random reboots.”
When asked by Paul Thurrot how the Samsung Focus gets way with expandable storage, Microsoft claimed this was a feature requested and supported by the carrier, in this case AT&T.

I ended up getting the 16GB Class 6 from NewEgg for $49. Cost was my discriminator. I could not bring myself to spend half the price of the phone on memory. I am going with the 16GB until the 32 or even 64 is available at under a hundred bucks and class 6.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...16GB_microsdhc_class_6-_-20-211-379-_-Product
Never buy an SD card off ebay. The sellers re label cards to misrepresent size and almost always misrepresent the class of the card. They even display the correct size in a pc or phone, but when you try to write data past a certain point, they error out.
Always purchase SD cards though a reputable dealer.
I figured the re-usability was worth the extra cost. My current 16GB SD card has been used in 3 phones now, so I figure if I spend a little extra on a nice 32GB it will last me a while.

Nov 16th? Are you waiting for the Dell? Is that the latest date for that model. 1 Week for me to the 8th.
Oh and MS only requires a class 2 minimum. You will see all sorts of speculation about what difference the class makes to the card. Most speculation seems to be that the higher classes are more important on the smaller storage sizes, but I have not seen that personally.
The only empirical proof I have is there was a huge difference going from a 2GB class 2 to a 8GB class 4 in my Fuze. I am looking forward to checking out my 16GB class 6. Similar to going from dial up to high speed, I simply could not stomach risking going to a 32GB class 2 on the off chance it really does feel slower.

Kingston 32GB microSDHC (class 6) - is it real?

I have just bought this for my Desire:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/32GB-KINGSTON...AsAccessories_MemoryCards&hash=item230c6c00d1
(scroll down a little cuz the listing is over, but u still can see the description)
It says that it's a brand new 32GB class 6 microSD card by Kingston, but I could not find anything about it on the net. The only 32GB Kingston cards I could find were class 4.. so, can it possibly be a fake? The seller is with 100% positive and is from UK.. What do you guys think? Maybe it's sort of a new product still to be introduced or something?
Chances are is it not a class 6 as Kingston does not list it as a product available from them.
10 Year Warranty ? I 've never heard As far as i know here we only 've 5 years Warranty for SDCards I don't know much about UK One
Well, I'd take it even if it was a class4, I would be disappointed though. I'll of course let you know about how it all went when the card arrives.
More opinions perhaps?

That is extremely cheap.
16gb cards go from 70+ USD (52 euros)
I bought one as well - mine is coming from Japan however =)
Ebay item=220707787049 (I'm not allowed to post outside links yet since this is my first post.
True though that Kingston does not seem to have such a product... we'll see when it gets here =) If you get it sooner, could you post a speedtest?
Yeah, I'll do that. Hope we both get lucky with these cards..
Yeah me too. Mine has just been mailed, in about a week I'll report back =)
well.. I bought a similar item, a Kingston 32gb Class 6 SDHC. It was cheap, so I had to try. Got it today, and tried a few speed tests, and only got about 2 mb/second
made a complaint on ebay, and the seller is now offering me to send him the card back, so I can get a refund... I'm more interested in seeing, if this really is a 32gb card.. so I start to copy... this is going to take a while, so I will be back with more results later
So, is the capacity real?
Ok, so I got the card. The markings look cheap and fake, the packaging - too. But the card is indeed 32GB. And, of course, not class 6. Mor like class 4, though at the very beginning the writing speed was less than 4MB/s. I can't make up my mind if I should keep it. If it's really a class 4 card, it's okay. But I'm afraid that it may corrupt my data or eventually go bad.. So, is it safe to call it a class 4 card? What would you guys do, would you keep it? Rememeber, it's price was under 50 bucks, so maybe it's worth the bet?
I attached the benchmark of it.
Ok so, isnt there some benchmark that tests if the full card is undamaged and writable? If it isnt, you still got a cheap 32 gb card... right?

Don't know if this test tests that. Dunno any other tests u can run on Ubuntu either.
It turned out to be a complete fake with less than 5GB available.. He is not getting his money. And nor is he getting that piece of **** back, for it belongs in a trash can.
I hope those *****es rot alive.
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully I will be a bit luckier. I'll report back when I've received mine...

I bought that exact same card.
When the card arrived it was slow (around 1-2Mo/s instead of 6+) but after only 3 days of regular use it stopped working.
It wasn't recognised anymore by any reader (tested in PC, Wii, camera and Android phone) and I couldn't even format it.
So I had a close look at it and noticed the product number was SDC4/32GB which is in fact the product number of Kingston's class 4 32GB micro SD. (since they never produced any class 6 32GB micro SD, only class 4 and 10). Also the inscription was a bit different from what I could see on goole image for Kingston microSD.
Finally I sent it back to the seller who gave me back my money.
Here's a pic of the card: http : // hpics.li/09be9f2
Edit: As far as my opinion goes: this card was a fake, although it's just me and I can't really prove it.
Your picture is a proof.
So I just received mine as well, package looks real but no idea if it is... Will test it tonight, no computer nearby...

Lexar 32gb micro SDHC class 10 card...failx2

ok so I am now about to be on my 3rd 32gb Lexar class 10 micro sdhc card. I am thinking that the first two since they were in the same shipment batch that they were just a bad bunch of cards. Thx. I decided to try the Patriot version instead (not that it has any better reviews, but a few Atrix owners have reported success with it). Cheers.
Been running lexar since first week had the phone, no problems yet. What batch yours come out of? Also, ordered from provantage, shipped from new jersey or georgia one, will have to double check.
couldnt tell ya. I do know it was the very first shipment of them that came into our store like a week or two after CES. Im just thinking it was just a bad first batch. 3rd one is going fine so far...
I got mine through Beach Audio via Amazon. It's been working fine so far.
I got my Lexar class 10 a few weeks before the Atrix, it has been in the phone since the first boot and has worked great.

The highest capacity model of any data storage device always has a higher per unit of storage cost than lesser models... but it also holds the most. You've got to pay to play.
If you wanted to have access to 32 gb of data, you wouldn't want to be swapping out two 16 gb cards as needed to get that capacity would you? To me, that seems silly.

And I understand that. For me personally, taking 15 seconds to swap an SD card isn't really a big deal, especially since with this phone (thank science), the card slot is easily available under the battery cover, instead of the battery itself.
But, if I can get a decent price on a 32gb card I'm all for it. The price difference just doesn't seem worth it (to me) to save the 15 seconds
If you want to carry all 32gb with you, where di you put the extra 16gb card? It gets old remembering to put accessories in your pocket.

Anyone else getting VERY SLOW transfers speeds with this card? Average I'm getting is 3.5mb/sec which is well below normal!! Therefore, it takes awhile to transfer a movie from my PC.

Like I said, it's really all about personal preferrence. I carry a shoulder bag around with me everywhere I go, so remembering accessories isn't really an issue. I always have my Lapdock, charger, bluetooth mouse, etc. with me at all times. This phone replaced any need I had for a netbook.
Still no word on prices people have got for these?

I thought are phone only support up to 32GB of removable memory. I had a 16GB, but decided to get a Samsung Class 10 32GB since it was a great deal and I think that's more than enough for me lol.

It is only supposed to support up to 32gb but I am pretty sure I read somewhere that someone was using a 64gb. I wouldnt be surprised if 64gb worked just fine.

What are the potential pitfalls of using a 64GB card in the E4GT?

Ok from what Ive seen, the camera and camcorder no longer tells you how many pictures/video time is remaining. Is that atleast correct?

I ordered two and have used these befofe the sdxc system in the micro sd cards seem to be read as sdhc so that these phones can support it. On an evo even it reads perfectly fine. On the ET4G I havent checked the camera information but it does transfer at 30mb/s (read/write fluctuate between 15-20mb on actual transfer and write is just a bit higher).

Too much disk space, therefore more time spent taking pics/vids/watching movies resulting in angry wives/gf's feeling neglected?

Not if you are taking pictures of them.
ordered.. thanks!
I have been using the 64gb sdxc card for about a month now. It works great!
When I first installed it my phone did not recognize it. Easy fix....
1.menu
2.Settings
3.Storage
4.Unmount SD card
5.Format SD card
The only minor issue I have had is "media scan" can sometimes take a little long if I have too much media saved on the SD card. I usually just place a period in front of large folders that contain movies and private photos. This will hide the contents of the folder from the "media scan".Then I just access them with ES file explorer. The media scan never takes anymore than a couple seconds and its NOT really an issue.
Also for some strange reason Windows will not recognize the card when plugged in to the computer directly but My Mac will. When transferring files from Windows I just use the USB cord and transfer via mass storage or MTP Application.
BUY IT NOW!!! You will not regret it.
I forward this to a few techy friends, we always share deals. One of them stated that this site is known for selling counterfeit SD cards...any truth to that? I would hate to dish out this type of money for a fake card.

Don't know if it's widespread or isolated incidents.
http://photo.net/digital-camera-forum/00LQNF
The above is from 2007 though, so I don't know if it's relative to today.
After extensive Googling, I have come to this conclusion:
There are hardly any incidents about fake SanDisk cards from Adorama.
There is the one incident above, which may have stuck in peoples minds over the years, but is not indicative of a widespread problem.
Most of all that I read about Adorama is positive, or neutral.
Adorama is in NYC, and is in direct competition with B&H Photo, another reputable Dealer to buy electronics from, so I don't think either wants to blow it, so to speak.
The above is just my opinion, but if Adorama had issues with widespread SanDisk problems, I likely would have found it.
Out of the 2 stores above, I usually shop at B&H Photo, whether in store or online. No particular reason other than I went to B&H Photo years ago, and have continued to go there if the price is right. I've been to Adorama once also, and had no issues. I actually purchased recently a SanDisk 16GB Class 6 card from B&H Photo, but purchased the Samsung 32GB Class 10 card a couple of weeks afterwards from another Dealer.
Adorama advertises a lot on 660 AM WFAN sports radio. Pretty big name. I'd be surprised if they wouldn't work with someone who received a bad or fake card.
Found this video with the card being used HERE
Thanks Biker1 & The Root for the feedback... I am yet to get let down from buying a product that I heard from a member on xda developers...even more recommended.
They call them mensches. As a chosen person I'm sold. I believe the store is closed on Friday night and Saturday for sabbath.

Anytime.
I don't have the card, but from what I've read, I wouldn't hesitate to get it if I was looking for a 64GB card, and Adorama seems like a safe bet
