a question with broken lcd - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Accessories

hello and merry xmas!i have a qtek 9000 and all of a sudden some days ago while having it in my pocket my lcd broke.i found some lcds in the ebay for about 130 dollars(90 euros) and as i m from greece i searched in greek forums and found a qtek with a broken m/b(something happened and the m/b "burned, toasted" from humidity etc) and the qtec doesnt turn on.he is selling it for 40 euros.i want to ask if there is a possibility and the screen to have a problem from the "burned" motherboard.i dont want to waste these money.thnx a lot for ur time

That's a good question, the answer?
Nobody can tell you if the display isn't tested first, ergo, you have to buy it to know it.
A more detailed answer (with no warranties whatsoever), usually displays are very resistant (electrically speaking), so, it should have suffer any damage because of a burnt PDA due to humidity (???), but if humidity means that it has gone to swim to Lindos's Bay, well, that's different, water can penetrate easily inside the glass "sandwich" of an LCD display, so...
Whatever you choose to do, good luck!

SX66 Touchscreen Cracked - need info please!

Hi there
I have an SX66 with a cracked digitizer/touchscreen.
The LCD is ok. I removed and replaced the battery, unit starts ok, but, of course, I cannot get by the alignment screen (makes sense).
I have a couple of questions.
First, I have an opportunity to buy another SX66 that has a cracked LCD, but there doesn't "seem" to be a crack in the touchscreen. There is a "spider's-web". Can this be on the LCD? Or I'm thinking that maybe it's on the underside of the touchscreen. Any opinions?
Is it possible to have a cracked/broken lcd and not have an affected touchscreen?
So, the touchscreen 'looks' to be ok, but is there anyway of testing this without removing it? Any opinions? Should I buy his unit and try it?
Second, there are some instructions for replacing touchscreens in an earlier thread. However, there was one comment that said that if I buy the proper touchscreen, soldering/desoldering is not required. Can anyone clarify or confirm that?
Third, is there anyway of determining which touchscreen I require by just the unit serial number? Or do I need to remove it?
I want to take this apart and fix it, but I would rather gather all the info first. Any help would be hugely appreciated!!
Thanks!
Richard
Hi Richard,
Well first off all, let me put your situation into other terms...
You have a really expensive suit jacket with a cashmere liner inside. You snag it on a nail, and now there's a big rip on it. You have the opportunity to buy another really expensive suit jacket with a good exterior, but the cashmere is ripped to shreds inside. Do you buy it and try to sew the two together?
I don't know exactly how crafty you are, but retrofitting a touch screen onto an LCD sounds like a daunting task. Buy a new OEM screen outright and fit it into your SX66. You'll have a lot less to worry about in the long run.
This might help

Looking for Motherboard QTek 9000!?

Hello all Universal Users, I am Loooking for a Mother board for My Qtek 9000, maybe some one can help me to find one?
Are tey all the same Qtek->I-mate->Dopod...
Many Thanks,
Jean-marc.
All boards are the same, (only different branding, and of course G3/G4 difference)
need parts too !!!
Hello, If you can find a dead uni (with MB ok) we can buy it together , i need a part (little board next to the screen) for my second uni.If you find one, pm me (sorry for english, i'm french).
Good luck for your searches ...
My Mother-in-Law got my Exec wet... arrrgh!!!
so I have a water damaged one (not wet enough to blow the warning stickers though). The damage is only to the screen the M-board is fine & in fact the phone is fully functional unlocked and not subject to an insurance claim (more fool me for not insuring it!). The phone is less than a year old, the case has the usual pocket wear and a couple of tiny dents on the top most centre panel and one of the two little rubber bits by the led’s is missing
The damage is the screen has gone smokey and darkened and does not turn of the light fully as a result the battery life is shortened.
I needed total reliability for business trips to the Far East so I have had to move to another phone for a bit.
I had the whole thing apart to see if I could track the damage and repair it and as far as I can see it is just confined to the ribbons attached to the screen and digitizer. I am happy to break it for spares if you are interested.
Any parts (no guarantee offered) make me an offer – I even have the original box & manuals.
Wouldn't trust the screen or main ribbon - these are now available on ebay.
Happy to advise on dismantling,
Cheers,
Newton

[Q] HTC Desire Digitizer replacement

Hello,
My wife recently had the misfortune to drop her newish HTC Desire A8183 on the kitchen floor, thanks to my daughter's over eager grab. The digitizer has some lovely cracks all over it now... :-(
Needless to say, my wife is dismayed, and my daughter (she's only 3 and didn't mean it) is very sorry.
I thought I'd try replacing the digitizer myself, having read many tales of repairs taking 3 weeks and costing 300+ dollars.
Bought a new digitizer, took phone apart (even had a handy little "oven" that I could set to 60 degrees to melt the glue).
Phone taken to pieces quite happily.
Put in new digitizer, reassemble.
Now start up phone, all looks good.
BUT... only a small section of the screen is responding to touch (where the 7,8,9) keys are when entering SIM PIN. The row below has also worked (although intermittently) and the emergency call button too...
So my question:
Is this a problem with the digitizer I bought? Is there a particular model number of digitizers that I should be using? I note that the old digitizer had an "I2" printed on the pcb, whereas the new one has an "E5", the old one has a sticker with SHAB1 on it whereas the new on has SHABN...
I'm not sure that this is important - but given that the thing only partly works, I think it might be.
Anyone got any ideas/hints for me to try... I'll phone the supplier tomorrow and suggest to them that the part is faulty, as I can't see any threads out there where this has happened to someone else.
EDIT: I thought I should add that the old digitizer despite looking like a spider's web, still actually works - which really make me think it is a problem with the new one...
Thanks for any help!
Chris
I can't really help you from experience all knowledge.
But I did read somewhere that you have to use specific digitizer for specific Desires.
I could be wrong
Did you work out any solution for your replacement digitizer issue?
I have a similar problem and I just realized the different ghost pattern of the screens (original has diagonal, new has square arrangements of dots) and also the electronics of the digitizer is slightly different (Original: Synaptics 940-663-1R1, replacement: Synaptics 940-682-1R2)
Hello,
I'v got the same problem, i even bought two digitizers from different sellers. I thought that it is because i did something wrong when I disassembly and assembled the phone but I put my old digitizer again and it works ok ( except the corner where it's crashed ).I asked my sellers if there are some different digitizers and they replayed that no and the one I'v got are checked and ok ( the electronics is identical, the only difference are white big number E2 and G2 ). What can I do more to repair my poor thing?

[Q] GNex Screen Replacement from another GNex

Hi guys,
I searched the QA section but I didn´t find anything suitable. So here´s my issue:
I have a broken screen on my GNex GSM. The digitizer and the OLED is fine, only the outer glass layer is broken.
That´s really annoying so I want to exchange it. Here´s my plan:
Buy a broken GNex GSM on eBay where the screen unit is still ok. Do the replacement with my current phone and be happy again
I´m not quite sure if this will work. I teared my GNex apart and found out there is some electronic circuits glued between the OLED and the magnesium frame.I don´t know if the circuits affect any data or IMEI or anything like that.
Is there somebody out there you has experience with this procedure? Will I lose data? Will I lose root capabilities? Will my IMEI change?
Kind regards
Christian
Changing the screen will not affect ANYTHING else on the phone - only changing the mainboard would do that

Hiya I in the same boat have a very scratched lcd screen and best qoute I had so far is 80 quid from a repair shop at the top of Sutton high street. Anyone have any improvement on 80? Many thanks in advance.
The digitiser and screen are glued together. As per HTC's official instructions and parts most places won't replace the digitiser by itself, they'll replace the whole screen assembly which is the reason for the higher price.
Some places will cheap out and heat gun the two bits apart so they can replace just the digitiser, but the end result is usually quite sub-par compared to getting the whole assembly replaced. The screen ends up feeling tacky and weird.
