HTC home contacts and Pocket Informant - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

How do you set the HTC Home contacts to choose Pocket Informant contacts instead of the default Windows contacts?

I'm not sure where you're looking to put this, but if it's an editable menu, just point it at PocketInformant.exe, which if your device is like mine, lives in \Program Files\WebIS\PocketInformant.
There are a raft of optional start commands which will bring PI up in Calendar, or Contacts, etc. The plain "PocketInformant.exe" will bring it back up wherever it was last time.

On the HTC home screen, under the contacts tab, when you tap a "+" sign to add a contact, it used to pull up PI contact list which let me choose which phone # for a contact I wanted to use. Now for some reason it pulls up the default Windows contact list which automaticall puts the first phone # for a contact there. There is no menu or place to make it point to PI.

Windows Live Messenger Contacts integration

There's a way to remove the windows live messenger contacts from my contacts list?
I don't want thats messenger contacts on my FONE contacts LOL!
I already have a lot of contacts ad that contacts are a crap!
Please, someone can help? thanks
I think there's a bug and if you remove them from your list they'll be removed from your msn acount...
That's not a bug, it's how it is supposed to work so that your contacts are integrated.
I don't think it's something you can turn off, but then, I haven't tried.
You can always add a category to your non-messenger contacts, and view by that filter if you don't want them showing.
I have more than 200 non-messenger contacts.
That messenger contacts on my PHONE list are crap

You can bulk highlight them in Outlook and add a category to them.
To *you* it's crap
I have about 150 contacts, 50 messenger contacts, and of those, about 30 I had as real contacts anyway. I like the way they are both integrated into one thing, and that the information is with me wherever I sign in.
I want the msn contacts hidden from my phone contacts list without selectiong categories all times... Or just dont add these contacts to my phone...
just a setting
It is a setting in Windows Live. When you set up the Windows Live connection you can choose if you want to sync mail and/or contacts. I only chose mail and my contacts did not appear in my address book.
You can change it in Windows Live: Menu/Options/2 Sync Options - Deselect contacts and messenger.

On mine, it still puts the contacts in, it simply does not synchronise my address book online.
That option is about the online sync with Windows Live services, not about placing them in your address book.

Basically, tough. In this instance, 'I want' doesn't get! Microsoft have designed it this way, and until a new version of Windows Live is released that doesnt do this (unlikely), that's the way it will be
Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks
What you need to do is when it asks you if u want to integrate the contacts you say Cancel, you then go to the right hand menu at the bottom of the screen and select windows live. It will open a search box with a login button underneath.
Log in to windows live and it will give you 5 screens, 1 of which disables the syncing of the contacts into your address book..
Sorted

That option is to do with synchronisation with the windows live address book. This is not the same as your contacts/address book on your device.

HTC Home problems/questions

I have a few problems with the app and I was wondering if there was some remediation for them (including fixing my ignorance)
The automatic profile engages vibration mode during any calendar item, including free events
The weather doesn't auto update on its own, when I open the tab, it is either old or empty and starts to update then.
there is no snap back to the main tab
pressing the mail indicators doesn't take you to the account with new mail, it goes to the last account viewed
I have used HTC Home Customizer, but that mainly does colors and icons. I know it is free, but I'd like MORE from it for my convenience

First of all I use the standard/non mod HTC Home from this link, I also installed HHC from here.
I do not understand your first concern.
I guess with the second, it is a good point not wasting data when it's not needed, you only want to pull down data when required. So I actually like what it does and how it does it.
With the third concern, I put a device lock button and it snaps back to the home screen.
I have two email accounts set up for my device, one is a windows live, and another is a google apps account, basically Gmail via IMAP, so when I click on the mail it brings up the two accounts and let me see which one has the blue with 1 on it, indicating the mail box with new email.
Sorry can't be much help but just sharing what I experienced.
If I have an all day free event... like "Pay Day", it stays in automaic vibrate all day. If I delete the event, is switches to normal. It should only change into meeting/vibrate mode during "busy" events
I haven't found any switch back settings, where did you set that?
I have 4 accounts, 5 including sms/mms, so I have to page back and forth between accts looking for unread email. I suppose I can try to set the account picker as messaging start
I am now not following your 'switch back' function. I put device lock, and when I touch on that it locks the keyboard/screen and puts up the home screen
With events I set my diary and set it as 'free' it didn't interfere with the profile, but may be I have spb phone suite installed.
again I use the standard one and modified it with HHC.
Look at this! It might your profile that you selected.
I just uncheck that tab in the HTC Home options... Then I don't have to worry about it automatically changing my ringer to vibrate
I thought that I could just settle for HTC home, as it seems pretty light weight... but I need more functionality, so back to PhoneWeaver I go...and iLauncher I suppose

Google Contacts sync

Hi all,
any of you ever tried to sync only one (or more) specific contacts group?
I remember of such a function in Android 1.6, and it would be great to have it back on 2.1 too (maybe it's there and it's just me who cannot find it).
I don't like to have ALL the Google contacts sync'ed.
Thnx
Can't be done. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=662949
Thanks Cleargrey,
would you tell me if you ever tried to sync Outlook with the phone did you manage to do so? It seems my HTC sync won't sync, telling me no errors but no contacts sync'ed as well
I also tried to sync Outlook with Goole, and found a good prog to do so (Go contacts sync) since I don't want ot go over with CSV import/export, but it states it syncs pictures too, and it doesn't...
Cleargrey, just a little info to better understand the following HTC answer:
A1. It is not possible to sync just 'My Contacts', it would always be 'Google Contacts, or 'All Contacts'.
what do they mean with "Google Contacts or All Contacts"? Is it just basically a different way of referring to the same "All Contacts" group?
I'm asking because I just checked on Google Accounts and I didn't see anything like "Google Contacts"
There does seem to be some confusion over the various contact lists/groups on the phone and on Google Contacts.
BTW, Google Contacts can be accessed through your Gmail account (left side menu -> Contacts) or directly at www.google.com/contacts.
Basically:
All [phone] = My Contacts [Google Contacts]
Favorites [phone] = Starred in Android [Google Contacts]
Co-workers [phone] = Collegues [Google Contacts]
Family, Friends [phone] = Family, Friends [Google Contacts] resp.
user created groups [phone] = user created groups [Google Contacts], and vice versa.
All Contacts [Google Contacts] is never sync'ed on the phone.
All the above get sync'ed together, you can't cherry pick.
Sorry to correct you JT, but if I access Google Contacts on my desktop I find "All Contact" contains 643 contacts.
Now, doing the same on my phone (Contacts -> Menu btn -> view) I see "Google (643)".
Hence my phone sync'ed All Contacts.
It would be great if it would have sync'ed "My contacts" only, cuz even if it's not a subgroup, it only contains contacts I want to carry on the phone
Two very quick questions I'd love some help with.
1. Whats the quickest way to type a new sms message? When I open the messages icon and choose "new message" it lists ALL of my contacts. Anyone I EVER emailed in my life. 1000s. I justwant to see my 100 or so SIM contacts as I want to write an SMS message. any way around this?
2. I clicked on new message (in the messages icon) and typed in an email address. The phone then sent the email as an attached MMS message via my phone service provider? I assumed it would use my gmail details to send it? Am I set up wrong?
Thanks, Got the desire yesterday. First time on android. bit lost really. not as intuitive as expected, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.
fastest way to send sms to a specific contact is to go to "Contacts", look for the person you wantto send the sms to, and then click not on the name but on the picture (or on the pic placeholder): some icons will show up so that you cna choose what you want to do. Click on message and you're good to go.
your problem is the same to me: I DO NOT want all my google contacts on my phone cuz everytime I have to do something with contcts (apart from phone, where I checked "show only contacts with tel number") it will fill my eyes with unwanted persons

Hmm, glad mine doesn't do that! Anyhow, go to your "All" contacts list on your phone, then MENU button -> View, un-check "Show auto Gmail contacts".
Seems I may have been wrong, Google Contacts' All Contacts do indeed seem to get sync'd in their entirety but this check box allows you to mask what you don't want to see.
checked that, and will test functionalities for some days, but going to "search contacts" still shows up all Google contacts.
This is something really pissing me off.
For real: I can't understand why 1.6 had the opportunity to select the groups and 2.1 does not!!!
The Contacts/People feature seems a bit confusing to me.
The best way I've found of managing contacts is to create a group called 'Phonebook' and just use the People widget to display that group on one of my home-screens.
I can then add or remove anyone I like in there and it's easy to pick someone to call/text. The widget looks pretty cool too with everyone's facebook pics.
Seems much easier than viewing all People and scrolling through loads of Facebook contacts I don't need or Google contacts with only an e-mail address.
I can manage it all online under my Google account as well so setting it up only took a couple of minutes.
See here for a workaround for syncing just my contacts:

Is there a fix to the Peoples (contacts) where I found not synced all my contacts

Hi All,
I found by accicdent that not all contacts from my gmail account were synced into the WildfireS.
I have tried > Setting > Contact data base > clear data.
The WildfireS then came in completely blank contacts (peoples) and sync again. Unfortunately, the contact that I am looking for still not sync into the wildfireS.
Thank you
Edmond
In the standard Sense UI, the contact list can be filtered. You can set which contacts you want to display and which not.
If the contact(s) you are looking for is (are) not in the right group, it will not display them.
Check if all is set well (I'm translating from Dutch, so I might use the wrong link titles):
- Open Contacts
- Press the 'Menu' button
- Press the 'Display' option (the 'eye' icon)
- In the list that opens, press on the 'Google' option to open the drop-down
- Select the right groups
Also, of course, check in Gmail if the contact you are looking for is in the right group there.
Hope that helps.

Can't edit Google contacts on phone? Halp!

Hi guys. I am having trouble editing or adding info to my contacts.
I have google contacts synced and am only viewing those in my contacts. When I go to edit a contact, like adding a phone number or changing an existing number, I press the save button and it's like nothing happens. I can't press the back button or menu button. If I hit the home button, it takes me to the home screen but if I go back into contacts, it's like its stuck on the contact I was trying to edit. The only thing that functions is the Cancel button, which maddeningly asks if I'd like to discard my changes. If I do that, it simply discards my changes and the info I attempted to add vanishes.
If I go to gmail and edit the contact there, no problem. It syncs to my phone and all is well.
Why can't I edit contacts via the phone itself?
NVM, problem appears to be haxsync related but I still can't edit contacts that are linked to haxsync.
I don't use haxsync but here's an idea: Make sure that when you are viewing your contacts from your phone-that you are actually viewing the entry of the "google account", (and not your haxsync account, or other)
To test this, open Contacts, click on the bottom left Options button, scroll down and select "Contacts to Display". Click on your google account name, and then your will be viewing your google account records only, and you should be able to edit those from your phone...
Let me know what happens.
Some related background: You can't edit a facebook account entry from your phone - even if it is joined with a google account entry of the same name. When you display a contact who is both a google account and facebook contact- (depending what your settings are for "accounts to display") the same contact might have multiple sub-screens: eg. the google one which is editable, and facebook one- which is not.
