HTC Camera 4.03 - GPS PHOTO How to Activate? - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

HTC has this function listed (on the cooked ROM as well). I'd be most grateful if anybody can tell me how to activate it?
I searched the forum and found one where there is a long discussion and registry changes without success.
Thank you
When searching the web (google the great!) found this info. Has anybody tried it? However it is for HTC Tytn.

Well I descibed my problem and solution in the first thread you mention;
If I exit the camera and the storage is set to my SD-card, GPS Photo doesn't work the next time I start up the camera.
If I set the storage to the Main Memory and then exit, GPS Photo does work the next time. Even if I switch back to SD-card before activing GPS Photo.
I've tried out all possibilities and this quite logical order seams to work.
I didnt install the fix or replace any DLL-files since I hope that Meschle can cook the solution into a next release of his ROM when hes got more time.
Let me know if it works for you!

GPS-Photo works only when your main memory is selected.

Thank you all . I will try this.
I found out another operation that doesn't work when you use the SD card .
When you choose a picture to set the background for 'Today' screen the 'Transparancy' option doesn't appear if the picture is in the SD card. However it appears if the picture is in the 'Pictures' folder in 'My Document' in Main memory.

Use this CAB, it changes some drivers for gps making it usable by the camera
PS: to work properly ensure (COM3) starts automatically, if doesn't start it manually... (TaskMgr can help you to see if device it working or not)

GPS co-ords not stored in EXIF data on Oribt

I came accross a post on pocketgpsworld with details to change a reg value that would enable storing of the GPS location in EXIF data for pics taken with the built in camera....
I made the change but nothing in the EXIF data and i'm still missing the GPS icon in the camera view which suggests this doesnt work on an Orbit.
Does anyone have any more information or if this is/isn't available to use on the Orbit or if it's dependent on the version of the camera app?
It should work (well I know it works on the Orbit hardware) what OS are you using on your device I have only seen this work on WM2005, not too sure about WM6 if that is what you are running - Mike
Sorry, would have helped.
I'm running the standard O2 WM6 rom that is now shipped with the Orbit and also available for upgrade on my-xda.com
It works in the orbit - its enabled in my cooked o2 roms - which registry change did you make?
Thanks for replies guys.
In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/HTC/Camera/P9 key i changed the Enable value from 0 to 1

Yes thats right - you get a new mode like sport mode not an icon. From normal photo mode scroll with trackball to the left and new mode will appear.
Thanks for your help!
The screenshot i'd seen of the camera app showed a gps/satellite icon that i'd been told toggled on/off but you're right...on the orbit it's a different mode you have to select.
It seems to work OK despite for some reason the GPS LED on the left of the ear speaker not flashing.
In fact, it will create a gps photo with exif gps cords, but the cords are nulls
this has been bugging me for a while, but yesterday i was out walking and already had a gps fix with anotehr app in the background, tried gps photo and it didn't seem to do anything new, however i selected the phone to save to memory instead of sd card, and then restarted the app, now i get a little box saying 'intialising GPS' and a little icon appears next to the mode seletion (the top left) witha little siginal indicator, now the photos get saved with gps co-ords! i can switch it to sd and it saves fine, butwhen you start the app it has to be selected as main memory for storage, gonna look to see if theres someway to fix it, also i found a freeware app that lets loads the picture and then makes a kml file for google earth, can't remember what its called now tho

Photo GPS

Hi everybody,
I have the Artemis touch 4.02 full 4 sided rom.
When I want to use the GPS photo, with HTC Camera, I have the sentence: "Initializing GPS...", but it never stops.
So I cannot take Photo GPS
Do you know how to do to solve this problem?
Kind regards,
Cyril
set memory card to store pics..
then works.
Can you explain?
I don't understand your sentence :s
I try to choose Internal storage or Mermory card storage, it's the same thing?
Hoping news from you,
Kind regards,
Cyril

Try with setting camera to store photo in internal memory (not in SD), close the camera application, reopen camera application and set "GPS photo" mode.
The GPS Photo driver doesn't work if camera starts in "external memory"!
Yes, it's the solution I found, but it doesn't work on my ppc
Can you pick up gps signal? If you have a navigation software, turn it on and make sure you have signal for a few minutes.
Then when you turn on gps photo it should find signal straight away.
Note: I haven't tried this but when I had two navigation softwares for comparing purposes, I realised gps data is somehow shared.
Might help
Good luck
I tried your solution in opening first:
Port splitter,
TrackMe,
VisualGPS
With all the different software, when I launch the GPS Camera, I have still the "Initializing..." problem, moreover, when I close the HTCCamera, the GPS software (that I used to launch GPS connection) is frozen
Maybe it's time to hard reset!...

update GPS data first.... try again and if not working reset the thing
I did a hard rest with Artemis Touch Rom 4.02,
I have still the same problem.
My GPS is OK with Tomtom, VisualGPS, Port Splitter, TrackMe...
But the PhotoGPS doesn't work
Do I have to update the GPS or to update HTC Camera?

Few Problems, can anyone help?

Hey hey everyone. I have just got myself an XDA Orbit. First few hours was working ok, then it started to not load/gps would not work atall. So i decided to get the official o2 WM6 and that seems to have done it.
But now the programs i thought were standerd arnt there no more. I had a GPS program that had some like bar graph type things, and telling me how many satiliets i was connected to. Cant remember the name now.
Other GPS tester programs ive found cant seem to connect. Is this a problem with my GPS ? As it did work for a few hours, or is there certain points where there are "blind sots" ?
EDITI just tried the GPS Test 1.04, and i got 1 green bar and one yellow. Keeps changing to either 2 yellow or one yellow. The fihures at the top still havent changed though. Not sure if this is good as this is my first phone with gps inside. If it helps my settings are:
COM Port: COM4
Baud RateL 4800.
These are what i have seen in settings looking around. I havent changed any of them.
I also have a 4GB micro SD card. This card used to work ok, but now the phone shows there is no card, and the card reader on my laptop does not pick it up either.
EDITFound out that the card i have is SDHC, and i understand that it cant run without drivers. Tried to find some but they dont seem to work. the card worked before i put the official o2 update on there.
Any advice/information/answers would be great. I apoligies for any spelling mistakes.
Hi Vildar,
Since no Orbitites have answered you I will
I was just lurking from the Diamond(Ignito) forums, I have an old Orbit too, just feeling nostalgic
I see from your edits that you are starting to find your way around the Orbit slowly
I guess that, unless there's a backup file somewhere on your SDHC card then you can kiss all the original apps goodbye after your WM6 flash. In a lot of ways that's not such a bad thing as these machines tend to get full of junk after a while (my Ignito is already)
Your GPS COM4 4800baud settings are correct, I suggest you install some GPS apps to test such as:
GPS Cycle Computer - A superb app which is what XDA-Dev is all about
Try the QVGA version of course or how about:
GPS Skinner which has the satellite signal page that might help you.
The Sirf chip in the Artemis/Orbit is much better than the Qualcomm integrated one in the Diamond IMO (and a few other peoples') so you should be able to get a good signal and a quick fix (*You HAVE run QuickGPS to update the ephemeris data haven't you???) - Search the Artemis forum to find out how to point QuickGPS at the best server.
I also found a good file manager such as Total Commander or GSFinder to be very useful
A task manager like FdcSoft this one
And/Or Magic Button
I also used RhinoLaunch
You could try running chkdsk etc. on your SD card if it won't show in your card reader, even if you have to format it you haven't lost anything after all.
If you do need to Hard Reset make sure you have kept all you application cabs somewhere safe and use the excellent Pim Backup 2.8 to backup your personal data, SMS, call history etc.
The main thing is SEARCH IS YOUR BEST FRIEND (login first for best results) read EVERYTHING and welcome to the club dude

Thanks for the reply . I have managed to get both the GPS and my Card working. Found the right driver after a while. As for the GPS, not sure how i fixed it but it all works now. But i know have a few more problems.
I have 2 navigation programs. Tomtom7, and Igo8. Igo8 freezes and dies when i go to put an address in. Works ok with postcode.
Second, is there a way i can make files i recive from bluetooth go to my storage card instead of my phone? Just a pain having to move it all to the card.
BTW Thanks for the apps. Downloading them now

BIG problem with Activesync & memory card

I had a perfectly working TP2 (except a few irregular freeze, but I assume like everybody has) until this morning
I installed the splash screen shown at the therad below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=516013
(I installed through installing the cabs)
A while later my device froze, I soft reseted it and... Two huge problems:
1. Activesync doesnt work. When I launche it it is grey and diappears nearly instantly from the screen (I can relaunch, the same thing happens. I would expect it to stay on screen)
2. When acessing my microSD card with explorer, after going in a folder, I very quikly (a few seconds) lose my card (an see it anymore)
I do not know if it is related to the splash screen installation (It may be just a coincidence and I do not see why it would have an effect). It;s more likely teh reset ****ed up something in the registry. That's why I post here and not in the thread I just referenced
I am just hoping the issues I am encountering will remind someone about a classic problem
FYI I removed the software (of course) and also tried to disable Manilla 3D, but didnt change anything...
In Manilla, whenever trying to launch SMS from the tab or emails from the tab, it crashes Manilla (But trying to launch them with Manilla disabled doesnt work either, so I do not think it is a Manilla issue... Just manilla doesnt manage to make them strat and reboots). If I am on contact tab, trying to look for events (lie Facebook) crashes Manilla
Hope this rings a bell to someone. Thanks in advance
And obviously without a SD card or a working Activesync, Backing up the device is going to be a F*@!%# pain (if not impossible). Plus all the crap to reinstall...
AAAHHHH this never happened with my Hermes !! (Granted, I was using trusted cooked ROMs and not the garbage original one...)
I liek this device... but hate the sh%$t that seem to happen with the sofware...
It seems
Sometimes it goes through... I managed to finally synchronize (finally !!) after trying 50 or 60 times to launch ctivesync. Things went well but I needed to reboot, which I did
And now back to the problem...
It looks like if Activesync doesnt ahve an immediate conection, it just "dies" and doesnt stay on screen...
Interesting (but depressing) to notice: If I launch PIM Backup it sees no email/MMS/SMS account
I just cant (_*!^*^$
OK, problem narrowed down to potential dtaa corruption on my microSD crad (Could be linked to my phne crash). when the card is out no problem (And I am storing my attachments on my card so this explains a lot...)
Going to try to read it directly on my PC and try to save what I can
It's been a long monologue, hopefully this will be helpful to some people

IGO 8 - "failed to reserve virtual address"

sometimes with no actual reason when i start up IGO8 i get this message , ANY SOLUTION?
i have searched many threads but with no luck every thread says to disabled the TF3D or soft reset or clean ram utility (all solutions are a waste of time) , i am searching for a diffrent solution ...
You have to disable push internet and go through the steps to clean out as much of the redundant services as possible. That will fix the problem and make it run better. If you don't do this you have to reboot every time you want to use iGo.
There are a number of HTC default services that don't need to be running. You'll have to search sorry I forgot all of them
the message apears even though the push internet is off , which services do u refer to?

What he's saying is iGO is a pig and needs hoards of ram to run. On my Kaiser I've found that iGO will generally run at will but will crash later unless there is lots of free ram and not much stuff running. It's a very nice nav program and display, but it's just not robust.
//ok thank
igo8=ram eating program=no solution;
I had the same issue with my unbranded TP2, very annoying.
I seemed to have fixed it by merely disabling Push Internet - didn't use it anyway. Since then, no more virtual address errors, no reboots needed.
Mind you, i do prefer IGO as the favoured GPS app, it is well thought out and simple to use....
If that fails, try TomTom, works well on TP2, as does Garmin.
Hope this is helpful.
I asked this elsewhere, but does the TP2 have the same annoying lag as the TouchPro with TT or iGO8? Where it'll place you about 5 seconds behind where you actually are.
Also, does it display full screen or because of the high resolution screen, it doesn't display full screen?
