Hi there,
I have the problem that EDGE doesn´t work on my hw6915. I believe this is a technical defect (I´m waiting for feedback from HP Hotline) but I´d like to know if there´s a possibility to turn off EDGE in registry in order to use GPRS only until the reason for EDGE not working has been identified.
Thanks for your help!
I hate to dissappoint you, but if EDGE isn't working than neither will GPRS. They're the same radio, same frequency; EDGE is just an extension of GPRS.
Are you absolutely sure about that? GPRS data transfer works perfectly fine. Would mean that it is not a technical problem but ....

I have been trying to login Messenger Live with Wifi...but it always use gprs instead when my connection is active...

but why it doesnt connect directly using wifi??
Is there a way to fix the issue? it never happen with wm5's msn
Thanks again

when the gprs bubble pops up... press cancel.
then it uses wifi. problem fixed. why it tries gprs by default i would assume is due to mobile.
once i cancel works perfect over wifi until i move out of range.
I'm using Black 2.0 and changed the connection settings to 'Work network' (settings-connections-connection-advanced-select networks-my work networks) now I dont get the annoying gprs connection trying to start, just uses the wifi I have set up. Let me know how that goes.
dear all...thanks for the great help
falum...i did ur setup and i dont have the gprs pop up again...many thanks

Hello!
I believe I saw a thread that addressed this problem a few weeks ago, but I can't seem to find it now...
If I forget to turn WiFi on when I start IE, my Dash automatically starts to browse using an EDGE or GPRS connection. Is there anyway to disable the unit from using EDGE or GPRS for internet browsing? Or at least make it stop going to EDGE if WiFi is off? I don't have a data plan and don't want to be charged for access.
Thanks!
i also have the same problem and have had to resort to altering the gprs settings so that it cant connect. This is obviously not ideal as I would like to have it working in an emergency etc.
Thanks for any help!!

How did you do this? I have skype mobile installed, but it has a setting that is easy to figure out. Basically i only want to run IE over Wifi.
I'd be interested in a solution for this too. I've been deleting the GPRS settings and only entering them when I need to use it, which is less than once a month.
me too...
I'm in the same situation... is there any software to disable GPRS .. EDGE.. when the WIFI is off??....
Hi all, this is my first message on this forum.
I've a question: is there a way to disable EDGE on artemis?
The operator i use is doing experiments on EDGE so my pda goes from edge to gprs very often, but on edge no data exchange is possible, so i would stay always on GPRS . Is there a way to do this?
Thank you for attention.

Maybe i didn't explain well the problem.
The pda switch automatically from edge to gprs also without a data connection.
I would have the possibility to switch manually between the two kind of networks. SOrry for my bad english
Has anyone been able to set up Gizmo VOIP on AT&T's 3G? I have tried everything and cannot get it to connect. Gizmo and VoipStunet works fine on WiFi; also, VoipStunt CONNECTS on 3G but doesn't work properly. Is AT&T blocking Gizmo and if so is there any way around it? I've considered Fring but the lack of DTMF support renders it useless with Grand Central... and the Gizmo5 Midlet seems like a dirty attempt to play into the hands of the service providers (i.e.- AT&T)...
Any advice??
[EDIT] BTW-using Schap's 4.3
Sounds crazy, I know you've already tried it, but....
Proxy is off if using wap.cingular?
ISP setup is isp.cingluar to get a real ip (not 10.whatever...)
Ive used the wap.cingular for everything but that and have had no problems
(slingbox, orb, etc.)
I only use wap.cingular. With no prxy obviously.
I, too, have been able to use everything else with no problem.... but cannot figure this one out...
What softphone do you use? Here is some softphone to try, I test them all on my hermes. They are all working.

Exactly what symptoms / behavior occurs when you try to dial VOIP over AT&T's data connection? Does it connect? What's the error message? Can you NOT send / receive audio?
This seems like a common issue. So far I haven't found anything decisive in the forums to indicate anyone is successfully using VOIP with AT&T's data network (Edge or 3G) on the Hermes. That is, when using the integrated phone dialer.
Even when the same VOIP configuration works with WiFi, for whatever reason it fails on AT&T's network. When I had the Wizard I did have this working with a Faria ROM. But since switching to the Hermes I've had no success. I don't really think it has anything to do with AT&T blocking any services, ports, traffic. I'm almost certain of it since VOIP will work on AT&T's network if you use a 3rd part VOIP application like SJPhone or XLite.

Tested all 3 of them and, while they can make calls, none of them ring/receive incoming calls...weird...
So nothing at all??
Is there a tool that disconnects EDGE after closing internet explorer or opera mini? S60 devices as well as the iphone has that capability and it's quite strange why windows mobile doesn't.
Hi there,
sorry, but, what for?
EDGE (as GPRS) is charged per volume ... This is quite an increase of usability. Do you remember using the internet by phoneline? When you were charged by the time you were online, no matter if you did something or not? Would you pay for gas even if your car is in your garage at home with the engine not running.
???
Sorry, I should have mentioned earlier that I'm in the US. So when my phone is connected to EDGE, I can't receive any calls. I have an unlimited data plan, so that's not my problem. My issues arise when exchange uses EDGE to check for emails, EDGE will remain connected and I won't get calls unless I manually keep disconnecting EDGE. My alternative is to use manual checks for emails and then disconnect the data connection after that. Do you see the inconvenience here?
Hi,
aah, ok, got it. But still don't understand, for blocking calls while edge is running is not the default behavior. In my case, these two work together very well, when receiving a call, edge is cut off and reconnects after the call is finished.
What kind of mobile are you using? Maybe there's help for you in the appropriate subforum. Hope you'll get this soluted, that's really inconvenient.
Best regards,
