Hi all, this is my first message on this forum.
I've a question: is there a way to disable EDGE on artemis?
The operator i use is doing experiments on EDGE so my pda goes from edge to gprs very often, but on edge no data exchange is possible, so i would stay always on GPRS . Is there a way to do this?
Thank you for attention.
Hi,
i not sure if this Helps... or, is what you are looking for.

Maybe i didn't explain well the problem.
The pda switch automatically from edge to gprs also without a data connection.
I would have the possibility to switch manually between the two kind of networks. SOrry for my bad english

I have been trying to login Messenger Live with Wifi...but it always use gprs instead when my connection is active...
and even my gprs is on...its times out..saying that i need to find a place for better connection and so on..
but why it doesnt connect directly using wifi??
Is there a way to fix the issue? it never happen with wm5's msn
Thanks again
Mike
when the gprs bubble pops up... press cancel.
then it uses wifi. problem fixed. why it tries gprs by default i would assume is due to mobile.
once i cancel works perfect over wifi until i move out of range.
I'm using Black 2.0 and changed the connection settings to 'Work network' (settings-connections-connection-advanced-select networks-my work networks) now I dont get the annoying gprs connection trying to start, just uses the wifi I have set up. Let me know how that goes.
dear all...thanks for the great help
falum...i did ur setup and i dont have the gprs pop up again...many thanks
but the other issues comes in...it often say that i cannot connect..(even when i was on gprs)...do you have the same problem beforee??
Im using the live version that is cracked (no time limited) that i download from here..im really confuse to which version i should get (since some said it expired)...
if its possible...can you direct me to the thread to the correct one??
Thanks again!
Mike
Hello!
I believe I saw a thread that addressed this problem a few weeks ago, but I can't seem to find it now...
If I forget to turn WiFi on when I start IE, my Dash automatically starts to browse using an EDGE or GPRS connection. Is there anyway to disable the unit from using EDGE or GPRS for internet browsing? Or at least make it stop going to EDGE if WiFi is off? I don't have a data plan and don't want to be charged for access.
Thanks!
i also have the same problem and have had to resort to altering the gprs settings so that it cant connect. This is obviously not ideal as I would like to have it working in an emergency etc.
Thanks for any help!!

How did you do this? I have skype mobile installed, but it has a setting that is easy to figure out. Basically i only want to run IE over Wifi.
I'd be interested in a solution for this too. I've been deleting the GPRS settings and only entering them when I need to use it, which is less than once a month.
me too...
I'm in the same situation... is there any software to disable GPRS .. EDGE.. when the WIFI is off??....
Hi there,
I have the problem that EDGE doesn´t work on my hw6915. I believe this is a technical defect (I´m waiting for feedback from HP Hotline) but I´d like to know if there´s a possibility to turn off EDGE in registry in order to use GPRS only until the reason for EDGE not working has been identified.
Thanks for your help!
I hate to dissappoint you, but if EDGE isn't working than neither will GPRS. They're the same radio, same frequency; EDGE is just an extension of GPRS.
Are you absolutely sure about that? GPRS data transfer works perfectly fine. Would mean that it is not a technical problem but ....
Dear all,
since one week I have the TP2 and like it a lot. Until the TP2 I used to have an Iphone3G and now of course I have to change my user behaviour a little bit.
There is one big topic I would like to discuss here: DataConnections!
I have the problem, that I dont have a flat option for data from my provider. I have to pay by time and not by traffic. Hence I like to keep the time I am connected to the Net to a minimum!
Is it possible to realise the following with the TP2 (maybe with extra software)?
1. Mobile data connection only manually with immediate cut off after the transfer (for example if I press send/receive for mail). If I want to manually access the net there should be a short message box asking me to connect. Currently I have to use the CommCenter to switch data connection on/off. As I already use nodata to really cut off the automated connection behaviour, maybe this tool can also be used somehow to allow access and cut it off after the sending/receiving is done.
2. Wifi Scan constantly in the background (after manually switching it on) to scan for open networks or prefered networks. If some network is found, it automatically connects, checks internet, do all the other automated updates and stays connected until I manually disable wifi.
As you can see, I want to have some kind of automated, cost efficient, connection behaviour of TP2. The tool nodata, which I currently use is great to cut off the automated connection but is not very flexible
I am looking forward to exchange with you on that topic.

dvdjimmy
...does really nobody else need something like this? Or am I just too stupid to use the onboard tools of wm6.1 correctly?

dvdjimmy
take a look at bandswitch or commmgrpro...
you can use this registry entry,
for example this will kill automatic the connection after 10 seconds,
or if you dont use...
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
CacheTime = 10 (sec.)
SuspendResume = GPRS_bye_if_device_off

Dear all,
thank you for your suggestions. The registry is already a good start for me. Many thx. The commgrpro also looks very good. It seems to allow also the disconnect after a certain amount of time.
Anyway, I think I have to program it on my own: My dream would be to have a software which I can tell that I allow Access to the net from now on. Then the software is switching on wlan in the background and constantly scans for open or prefered networks. If such a network is found I would like to get connected to it. If somehow the WLAN connection breaks down and access to the net is no longer possible, the app should ask if I would like to use UMTS instead of WLAN right now. If I answer yes, WLAN is switched off, the data connection is switched on, the transfer is taking place and afterwards the connection is cut off completely and WLAN is switched on again and hopefully finds another open access again
So the main benefit would be, that automatically only the WLAN is allowed to connect. All the dataconnection by UMTS have to be allowed and are immediately switched off.
I would like to program something like this if you can help me on how to start with it, as I have not programmed a lot for the WM Platform until now.
With best regards,
Joachim
Hi, hopefully someone here can help me. I want my tp2 to disconnect from gprs after updating weather etc. I have tried hd tweak and gprs auto connect/disconnect but none of them work. If i bring my phone out of sleep mode the weather updates automatically, fair enough. but my gprs connection stays connected, sometime for 5 hours+.
I am on an unlimited internet tariff but with it being connected all the time I dont want to be charged for overuse. Can someone suggest something please.
I am currently on latest energy rom.
Thanks.
Stu.
Anyone help?
I used to have this problem of the data connection being left activtaed after use, until I found WMLongLife:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519
You can customise it to auto-disconnect idle data connections after a certain amount of time, switch to 3G upon a programs opening and back to 2G upon close and more.
Hope this helps
Here it´s gprs autodissconnect
Also if you have advanced tweaks you can enable that
