what is it? i have windows mobile 2003, do i need it is it useful? thanks in advance :?
1: It's named "Windows Mobile 5"
2: WM5 is not for all devices
3: It's like an update from Windows 2000 to XP, you may update if you like (and the device is upgradable!), but it's not necessary.
thanks for info, i really don't have a clue about my xda2. its wasted on me. waaa!
where do you get it from, anybody know?

thankyou rudegar, i hope they'll be able to help with my orange while im there!
Hi,
I'm sure this has been covered before, or is a silly question, but is there any way I can connect an external CD or DVD drive to my XDA Exec ?
Thanks, Huw
Pretty sure the answer is "almost no"
You can, within limitations, connect a hard disk:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280062
Maybe you could run a CD/DVD ROM off the IDE controller in that? Although how the drivers would cope is anyone's guess.
Alcohol 52% in PDA?
There are some aplication like
"Alcohol 52% (CD & DVD emulation software capabilites) to a pc" for ours Xda Exec? Something to install in the storage card?
Thanks.

By this u mean that v can attach a cd rom to exec.
What I am trying to say is:
if theres any posibility to execute any simple aplication (like a Iuris Dictionary or a Dictionary) under WM05... but simulating Windows xp (for example)....
Thanks
That's a very different question: like asking, if I paint a go-faster stripe on my car, can I fly to space like the Space Shuttle?
Mamaich has done some work on running Windows on the PDAs, but they can barely run their native OS fast enough, they're not really very good at emulating foreign OS. You'll be better off finding a native app that does the same job, if you can.

Yes thanks... The cds that I need, I don´t if they really need Xp or similar versions... but they need to be execute in my pc always in the cd or whit a iso image whit alcohol...
So if there is some thing to run a iso image in the pda will be fine...
It's in the e-club section so you need to sign up.
I'm downloading now, i'll post feedback later today.

RE:
Cheers to HTC for finally releasing the code. Downside: No Office Mobile. Here's the link I found in these forums for the Office Mobile cab:

Trouble downloading?
Anyone else having trouble downloading? I signed into my e-club account, clicked on the phone software upgrade link, selected WWE and HTC Europe download site, then clicked the download button. After a few seconds, I got the usual Windows download dialog, I clicked save, selected a directory as usual, and then OK. So far it's still sitting there at 0% progress.
I downloaded the Office package from the previous thread in this link (of course, from a different site), so I know my network is working OK.
So is anyone else experiencing this? I've been patient up to today, and now chomping at the bit to get this downloaded and installed on my S620.
Thanks,
Gary
Please can someone post in this thread what are the relevant changes in wm6 for smartphone?

Sweet Thanks for the quick response.
RE:
JSP, you rock!
People are still having problems downloading from files-upload.com. Is it possible for you to upload the ROM to rapidshare or some other free source? I'd like to see the ROM spread around.
Thanks,
Robb

You switched the two links around.
What's the 'SPL' program do? I have a T-Mobile Dash -- does this program let me apply the HTC ROM update, or is there something else I also need to do?

anyone having problems of hanging on windows mobile splash screen?
Yes, I thought mine was hung on the Windows Mobile screen, so I popped the battery and restarted. It did the same thing, so I waited it out. Eventually another configuration app kicked off and everything was good to go after that.

Hello
I'm looking for a way to install java runtime on pocket pc (windows mobile 6.1 on hp ipaq hx2495). I've been looking all over the internet for a specific download, but I'm not very experienced when it comes to java, and I don't know what to download. To be more specific, I'm trying to run this java program called DGuitar (http://dguitar.sourceforge.net/en/index.html). Thanks for the help!
Woot! Something I can answer...
There are a few answers though;
First you can use IBM's J9 which works just fine on the WM standard versions (no phone).
I find that Jbed is a much superior JRE for the Pocket PC but there are a few files you need. There was a post awhile back here on the boards so credit goes to who ever figured this out (a freaking genius!)
You need to have two dll's in your windows directory. They are SMS.dll and Phone.dll. You simply need to unzip these files, copy them to your pocket pc's windows directory and restart your PDA. Once you do this you can install many of the HTC apps like HTC home, HTC today etc and Jbed.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks very much I'll try it.
That´s perfect! Thank you very much.
Now it works on hx4700 with WM6.1.
Glad to hear it!

1. welcome to xda-devs
2. read my MIDlet Bible in the General forum (and, as a rule of thumb, make sure you always read my new - and past - articles & Bibles).
Thank you very much. It work for my HP4700+wm6.1

Help
CAn u plz tell me how i can install win 6 on my i mate jamin ????
Hi everybody! I recently got an HTC Universal from my brother (he has a Tytn 1 and 2) and I use it more often than my pc. Im wondering if I can use it to do simple programs that I cud run on WM. I've searched the XDA forums but I'm still unsure where to start, and if its possible. I have also searched at the Windows Mobile site, but it seems that I'm required to use a pc to make a program. I travel a lot so all I have most of the time is my pocket pc.
If doing an app for WM would really require a pc, is there a way for me to at least minimize it by using my pocket pc?
I'll also appreciate any help on links and downloads for this.
Thanks!
I used to program with my Tytn.
The program was named basic4ppc
Hope it helps!
