Faster Boot Up Time? - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

Anyone know how to speed up boot up time? My Artemis takes 80+ seconds to go from power on to useable. I'm using Vanilla 2 and SPB Mobile Shell.

Vanilla 2 boots up fast as it is.
Spb shell will slow it down.
2 things you can do
1. Overclock inc at boot
2. delete wifiinit.lnk from windows\startup
only downside of 2 is that you'll need to click wfi on in comm manager twice to activate

B&B 4.3 vs B&B 5.0

After testing during a few days B&B 5.0 I decided to downgrade to B&B 4.3 due to performance mainly (and also due to view style ).
What do you think, guys?
I didn't and am on 5.0, but yes, did notice performance degrade a little, and few bugs with Task Manager, Big Start Menu, and the setting og Gmail using IMAP.
For now I am looking forward to Artemis Touch 4 ROM .... hope to see it soon.
i moved to meschles vanilla 4.01 due to B&B 5.0 doing stupid things e.g. phone keeps turing itself on, reandomly soft resets etc. - and i had flashed it quite a few times.
waiting for Touch 4.0...
B&B 5.0 is very slow.
I can't agree with you guys that B&B v5 is slow. I make comparison this two roms with coreplayer benchmark, and Vanilla 4.01 is only ~2% faster than B&B v5, so this isn't too much IMHO.
Yeah, maybe I should be more clear. The GUI responsiveness of B&B 5.0 is very poor (slow). If somebody is calling me, it takes about 8 seconds for the phone to start ringing and few seconds more to display who is calling. Also the icons on start menu and settings load very slow. Sending SMS messages takes longer too. Programs load slow but when they are running, the speed is the same as on other ROMs. I guess becouse this depends on CPU speed which we all have the same.
I agree with you
- Battery lifetime is much less with B&B 5
- GUI is acting strange sometimes

mine work like charm. it could due to some application you installed. Download this Task Manager and check which program take up CPU time during problematic situation (e.g. phone ring)
I guess WM6.1 is too much for our Artemis
I was thinking of downgrading to 4.3 from 5 due to all the bugs (such as phone getting stuck after entering standby mode whilst running a full screen app/game). I think Tom rushed B&B 5.0, and therefore did not test it, which has caused all these problems.
Instead of going back to 4.3, i decided to switch to Meschle's new Vanilla rom, and it works perfectly so i'll probably be staying with this until his full artmeis touch 4 rom comes out.
I think tom and meschle should join forces, making a fast, well performing (meschle) rom with good applications with an awesome GUI (tom).

Auto Close Program Disable

Folks,
Does anyone know how to disable WinMo's Autoclose feature on the Rhodium? It seems as soon as I have a large number of programs running on Stock Tmobile WinMo 6.1 it starts to automatically close down some, which is a problem.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
This can be done with Advanced Config tool. Under "HTC Task Manager" you can disable "Autokill".
However, I have no doubts that this is a bad idea. Your programs are closing because they're using up your available RAM. So if you disable autokill, your device will most likely just lock up and you'll have to soft reset.
Thank you for the note, has anyone tried to disable this function, will it really freeze the device under high usage?
I tried to open as many application as possible and got up to around 80% CPU usage before the application started closing automatically, but I feel I can squeeze more out of the device by disable AutoKill.
Any thoughts?

Haha, seems like you might want to talk with this guy.
It also happens with my Hermes and Raphael..
It also happens with my Hermes and Raphael..
My Hermes (Dopod 838 pro) running official WM6 ROM
My Raphael (HTC Touch Pro) running stock WM6.1 ROM (Version 1.9)
It's a big problem, I can't keep my Twitter, downloader, and Messenger app to run at the background..
I have disabled the "auto kill" in HTC Task Manager with "Andvanced Config"..
I also have change the "memory thereshold" to 0 MB, then tried 1 MB, but the problem still there..
And this guy.. (me..) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=575663
Yeah, sucks. I dunno if the Rhodium sudddenly launches a bunch of programs every X minutes? Where would that be besides in the notifications? I have lots of calendar entries, so kinda difficulty to look through that on my Tilt 2.
I can get mine down to 23-24 processes (minus a few standard things, but plus arielbattery, s2u2, a couple misc things) so one would THINK that gives you 8 or so free slots so if you're just running 2-3 more things no problem but that's NOT the case.. It seems like no matter what if you're running a few 'large' things, something goes.
In my case, I run Flexmail from 0800 to 23:30 and if I run 1-2 more things, Flexmail exits. Very annoying. I once wrote a Mortscript to detect this and re-run Flexmail, but guess what happens... Flexmail runs, one of the other programs exit. Sigh.
At one point I disabled autokill, reduced some memory cache stuff, etc... Nothing helps unless I exit several of my background apps and free up more slots.
Anyone know of anything that could monitor background processes, like battlog does battery info? Like it'd be interesting to see a snapshot every 1s of number of processes running or something.. be interesting to see if it's 22,22,22,30,22,22 all of a sudden.
BTW, I don't run TF3D, I run my Today screen stuff I did in 6.1.. PocketPlus, PhoneAlarm, GPSToday, PocketWeather, TodayAgenda..
I never had these problems on my Tilt, as I describe in my thread above.. With the same number of processes at 'idle', but with only 25-40M of ram free vs my Tilt 2 at 70-85M free my Tilt 2 drops programs constantly.
If I didn't see Flexmail exit (not *crash*) I'd think programs are crashing and there's some serious OS bug or something but Flexmail clearly cleanly exits..
Very effing annoying, I'm hoping someone can figure this out at some point. Perhaps I should try a cooked ROM, although otherwise I have no problems with my current ROM.

common touch pro 2 issues

list the issues that you having with your touch pro 2 and the OS (rom) you running.
what apps you have installed, if any.
im having some issues ant trying to figure out if they arephone related.
had the phone for 3 weeks now and had to do a hard reset 3 times.
im pretty much doing soft resets every 2-3 days.
the phone slows down randomly to a point that it takes about 10 minutes for it to finish bootup. it will show the today window but when i push the button the it takes about 5 min for the menu to appear.
it doesnt connect to my PC in mass storage or sync untill i reset it few times.
i already deleted all apps except the framework 3.5
when i install any apps it seems to work even slower.
gyrator doesnt even work for a day it just freezes everything.
i had original tmo6.1
i had energy rom very slow
i had another rom that was ok
im now using leaked tmo 6.5 rom and same issues
It is slow even if you do hard-reset?
what about T-mobile stock programs that runs in the background? had any?
I have seen comments complaining about slow speed, but mostly were because of many programs running in the background
I suspect it's a problem with the ROM you've used.
NRG's ROMs are cutting edge and look pretty. But they tend to be too bloated and unstable for me.
US carrier ROMs also tend to be bloated with unnecessary programs and services.
The stock WinMo 6.1 ROM on my unlocked European TP2 was excellent. I get infrequent occasional lags but I often can last about 4 or 5 days before it slows down enough for a soft-reset.
Can't say the same about the official WinMo 6.5 ROM released by HTC. Lags were more frequent and I sometimes reset more than once a day.
Try Sergio's Cell Pro series of ROMs. I've been using the Cell Pro v9.5 Lite for a couple of weeks and it was perfect in terms of performance. There's only one tiny negative. The HTC volume control wasn't included. The chef acknowledged this was a mistake and it will be included in the upcoming version.
If you're adventurous and want Sense 2.5, try ark666 Rhodium_AF. I've been using it the past couple of days and it is indeed stable enough for day-to-day usage. RAM usage shoots up over time but doesn't seem to effect performance much.

Losing Service after long periods of time

So I have xdandroid running pretty good now without any major problems except for this. When I leave my phone idle for a long period of time, usually when I go to sleep, and come back to it I loose service as soon as I go to make a call. I tried playing with the airplane mode but it wouldn't allow me to disable the radio. Is anyone else having this problem and is there a solution? Thanks.
What phone? RHODxxx?
Build info would be helpful as well. Kernel, rootfs and system image version/date.
I quite often lose service, but there is no pattern to it! Sometimes it come back, sometimes it doesn't. If it has gone, then it won't go into airplane mode either - it seems to need to say goodbye to the network!
This is different to the scenario where I lose data connection, dispite having signal. In this situation the airplane mode trick does the job. When in this state, ifconfig doesn't display a ppp network.
Rhod100_uk, latest everything!
Well that makes me feel better, that GSM guys are experiencing the issue as well
Im also using RHOD100_uk and having this same problem aswell.
Only thing i have done that fixes it is to restart Android.

I have ATT tilt2 and i seem to have this issue from time to time. Sometimes i can toggle "airplane" mode and it will reconnect. If not its a full reboot.
Yup, I see this issue from time to time on my Rhod400 as well. It will show as connected to 3G but then unable to actually transmit data. I always have to reboot to resolve this.
My bad for taking so long to reply to my own thread, things got a little busy.
Anyway, I have the Rhod210, tmobile US version. Rebooting the phone wouldn't be much of a problem, accept for the fact that this usually happens when I'm asleep, and I don't realize I need to restart it, but rather think I'm not getting any calls lol. Is there a way I could rig it to reboot every so often maybe?

maybe once a day here with a rhod 400 on the latest frx03 build updated with sov's tool. i notice that the available memory in the advanced task killer will go from 102 when everything is running fine to 80 or 85 when is starts goin to crap. the only 2 apps i leave "alive" are task killer and juice defender.

Well, for one... you're *not* supposed to use "task killer" apps in 2.2+. Feel free to keep using them, just be prepared for data loss.
Two, the mystery process you're looking for is system_server. Every time I've had complete and utter unexplainable slowness, it was this process stealing 90+% of the processor cycles.
We still have some bugs to work out
so what should i be using for such an app?

The way Linux and Android handle applications, you shouldn't need to... At all. The only time you really *need* to kill an app is if it's misbehaving and it's frozen.

[Q] speed up cold boot or hibernate

is there any possibility to speed up cold boot or suspend to disk the zenfone 2?

Use the Autostart Manager to decrease the time it takes before the phone is fully functional after starting it up. Disable most of the apps you don't even use right away.
sorry, but it didn't change much of the boot time.
