I've been using Axel 3.1.2 lite's WM6 (a great ROM)
But I've just come from a x51v running WM5 Classic (no phone).
I'm so confused on how to use WIFI vs GPRS vs UMTS.
How do I switch on GPRS/UMTS service (and how do I switch it off)?
Your question doesn't make much sense to me.
Back to the basic - why do you want to switch on GPRS/UMTS service? What do you want to archieve?

I flash the jasjar's rom on the MDA Pro. but unfortunately, I have lost the ability of connecting to the internet through 3G/UMTS (the settings are gone).
Can someone post the settings of T-Mobile MDA PRO UK to connect to 3G network? (Normally automatically being chosen when there's no wifi around).
Anyone has the settings??
Called 150 and get their customer service.
The scary thing is.. the 40MB that I get on Web n Walk is only with the use of GPRS. Not 3G.
I repeat, GPRS not UMTS.
Back to the main question, who has the 3G settings?
I was advised to use the settings provided for WAP because "3G is expensive" (I quote from the guy who talked to me).
Hi all
I experienced some problems since I upgraded to WM 6 (official Tytn Europe Version)
If there is a active Datatransfer in HSDPA Mode, i cannot make or receive a phone call. I already tried several Radio Versions (1.43/1.48/1.50), but no success. When I disable HSDPA, it works fine.
Does anybody has same issues with HSDPA?
Thanks
Marc
Vodafone issue
Hi - are you using a vodafone network? I know that there are issues on the network that are preventing some operators from supporting voice and data at teh same time over HSDPA....
The operators I know about are planning network upgrades or patches to solve the issues (which are not just limited to Windows Mobile devices apparently)
I can make calls -> versions below I don't think this is just a phone issue though. I think some operators can't do it.
I have the same problem as you have.
It is because of the infrastructure of my provider KPN that I have this problem. When I disable HSDPA then all works fine. So no I only use HSDPA when I want to browse on the Internet.
****ty but now I know why.........
Hi all
Thanks for the confirmation.
I also disabled HSDPA for now.
Now I will the push the guys in the network department to fix this issue......
Just got the answer from the tech guys. Operators with Ericsson UMTS/HSDPA Network Equipment are affected by this. The Operator has to rollout a software update to fix this issue.
Cheers
Marc
I am on AT&T and have never been able to do data and voice at hte same time.
I'm on At-T in Nyc and my HSDPA works just fine calls while on data and vice versa
I'm in South Florida and I'm constantly using Internet Sharing in HDSPA mode while talking on my Jawbone... (takes "jawbone of an ass" to a whole new level, ehehehe!)

OK, now THAT is the funniest thing I've read here! Thanks for the laugh!
I saw the jawbone at the ATT/Cingy store and wondered if I should splurge on it since I already have an H500 and an H700 from Motorola. My problem is I ride bike a lot and the wind noise makes it impossible to have a conversation with an H500. It is possible but a little difficult to talk while riding using the H700. I was wondering if you had any experience with the Jawbone under similar conditions?
Regards,
George
OOPs - That was meant to be PM, sorry folks!
The Hermes is able to do both. Phone calls and data (HSDPA\GPRS\EDGE) at the same time. Your data speed does take a hit due to bandwith.
However if you cannot is because is 99.999% the network NOT the phone. I had a Hermes long before the network here in Canada supported HSDPA. So I could only do one at the time. At the beginning of this year they finally updated it and I have been doing both at the same time with wild abandon no problem.
Check with your provider.
@gmgonzal - the Jawbone will probably be the best you can find for your enviroment. I only use it in my Toyota when driving. People can't tell that I'm on a cell phone. I had a NxZen which I liked for a while but this is better, IMO.
@agovinoveritas - indded, that's the biggest reason I upgraded to the 8525... no more missed calls when I'm using the internet (or receiving an email at the same time..)
It's the network. All operators that use Ericsson 3G equipment suffer from a bug in the Ericsson kit that prevents simultaneous data/voice. All Nokia equipment works fine. T-Mobile in the NL use Nokia and have no issues. KPN and Vodafone NL use Ericsson and have this issue. KPN are currently upgrading their Ericsson equipment to correct this issue (ETA end 2007). I do not know about Vodafone NL. It is safe to assume that in other countries these providers use the same kit so you should be fine with TMO, regardless of where you are.
Does this issue include that my telephoneconversation can be disconnected?
I had this problem with the WWE WM5 HTC rom using the Vodafone NL network. Now I have uograded to the Dopod WM6 ANZ version it's all fine...
All:
I just got a Cingular 8525 and immediately upgraded it to WM6 (it had WM5 on it for about an hour). I am in a 3g covered area but I do not think I am getting a 3g connection on the phone. I have the big upper case U in a box, and then I have the signal indicator with an E over it. This makes me believe that I am connected to Cingular's edge network. Also, if I am on the phone and I try to run a sync with activesync the phone tells me that I have a voice call in progress. Any suggestions? AT&T support was clueless.

The U indicator is UMTS - that is 3G. However, most of the newer ROMs replace it with a 3G icon. What ROM did you use? Anyway, also, you may try the reg tweak to enable the BAND tab in the Settings > Phone menu. You can find that tweak in the wiki.

I have the same thing with my rogers phone, what I'm guessing is the phone is designed to pick whatever signal is strongest, (which is usually Edge) and not often-rescan for UTMS/3G.
If you google and download Band Switcher, you can force UTMS/3G at your leisure.
I wasnt aware the USA had 3G yet? I was always told that Edge was the best they had out there from a few mobile operators in the UK.
What Radio stack are you using?
Cingular, now known as "The New AT&T (AT&T)" has 3G up and running in some of it's markets.
No one seems to be answering this question.

We have quite a bit of UMTS and HSDPA coverage here in Massachusetts on Cingular/AT&T.
Cant see EDGE (the E icon) on my GPRS/EDGE connection. It always shows the "G" icon whenever it connects. Using the schap's Advance Config, the setting to show EDGE icon is enabled.
When i insert my SIM on another HTC Touch phone it shows the "E" icon. What may be the issue?

I understand that my Radio is ancient (i think its 2006). I am experiencing no problems with connectivity. Would you mind expressing a few advantages upgrading it? Which version do you recommend? (my country doesnt yet support 3G)
Well just comment, i'm using 1.47.30.10 on my Dopod 838 Pro bundled with K's WM6 Final. Before it, i use 1.47.00.10. Both working well, either on 2G or 3G band. On latest radio i've got edge symbol
I even flashed with the dopod pro rom turns out nice for both the jam and the dopod pro sorry in bed posting from my jam
hey guys, newbie here
i went throught the forums but didnt really find an answer to my problem with the TP2
my TP2 looses connectivity to the network pretty often. even though it shows a good connection to the network and i have good signals, i cant make calls or send sms until i switch to Airplane mode and then back to Phone mode. i read on the board that this problem might be because of the phone trying switch between 3G and GSM, so as they suggested i made the default network band as GSM and im still getting the same problem. plus from the past few days, i have pretty much stopped recieving international sms, which can get pretty fustrating if your girl is in another country
also i been looking for a way to reset the network settings
just for info, i am still running the with the original WM6.1 that came with it. th only updates have been for the radio version (gps thing) and sms hotfix
ROM : 1.19.415.1 (51489) WWE
Radio: 2.46.25.30
the network im on is Etisalat (3G network)
any help would be really appreciated
anyone
