I spent a whole day yesterday learning to unlock my new Cingular 8525. Then I tried it using HTC Hermes SIM Unlock v2a, and I followed closely discussion threat between crazyut and pof (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-286248.html), but I failed!
Steps as follows: I directly run RUU until ERROR 114 appeared. Then tried to copy HERM_Unlock_v2.exe to the phone, but found that I need to install the software to enable transfer of file from computer to the phone, so I install it. Unfortunately, the installation failed. In Device Manager there is item Windows CE USB Devices, with sub-item: HTC USB Sync(!). There is message: This device cannot start (Code 10). Then I tried uninstall and reinstall, but did not work.
So I use another computer. It can be installed, and connect the phone to this computer, and transfer the file. But I could not run it (I double click it; and also tried to run from: Start, Run, but no response).
Question: (i) Can the phone still be unlock (since the process was interrupted), (ii) Can I continue the process using another computer?, (ii) how can I transfer the file to the phone that can be executed, so I can complete the process.
Appreciate your help.
what bootloader do you have??? one of the first lines in the hermes unlocking thread is this:
It can be used in all HTC Hermes devices, the only restriction is that the device must have bootloader version 1.04
How to enter bootloader can be found here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Resets
there is no need to post the same question in different threads. I have deleted your other post in regards to this matter. Next time make a post in the device specific thread
Many thanks finally a response to my posting (noted also your note regarding second posting - thanks). My bootloader is 1.06.
My understanding is that I can downgrade the bootloader from 1.06 to 1.04 using MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program, is this correct?
During the process, there is already a message "ERROR 114" as mentioned in Install instruction.
as an FYI you would have gotten a faster response in the hermes upgrading board.. but here is a post you need to read about downgrading your bootloader.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284401
when you follow those instructions make sure you follow #3 as stated.. if its not done as stated you will not accomplish this correctly...
Thank you, I will check and read the info from the link you mention. I.ll get back to you later. Thanks
I have googled the DownGrade_SPL.rar for more than a couple of hours, but could not get free file. All website that I found, we should pay, and some of them $35 - is this really the case? Is there website that can provide free file? Thanks
you dont need the downgrade....
first flash your phone cingular 1.6 bootloader phone with this..it will change your cingular phone to bootloader 1.4..both files are from cingular roms which makes you abe to downgrade your phone from cingular 1.6 to the 1.4 bootloader..understand??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277664
Then follow instructions from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282073
after that you're phone should be unlocked and supercid...
it works.. i have done it to my cingular phone.. just read read and read some more.. everything you need to know is adressed on this website....
Enjoy

Re: Unlocking the 8525
Why not just call Cingu;lar and ask for the unlock code. If your a customer for more than three months, they have to give it to you!

I understand wrong, or I made a mistake, ok… sorry guys.
No one is perfect.
Don’t crucify me.
If you give me some minute’s maybe you can help me.
I try to install the” Artemis_wm6_black_blue”
After the installation the screen froze as I said to you before.
Thank you for your time anyway.

Can you give me some explanation?
I didn’t use or install any SPL.
I read the SPL of my device when I turn it on:
SPL 1.12.000
Should I install a different?
I saw the USPL before I install and I download it, I was not sure how to use it.
I’m having the same symptoms as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=312920 is writing.
Right now the only way to connect my phone with my PC is to reset and press-hold the button on the left side.
It gives me 3 coloured bars and I hear the sound the connection with my PC.
Thank you again for your help and I’m sorry if I make you angry.
Honestly there was no intention.

I'm trying to use HardSPL to upgrade my SPL on my AT&T 8525 from this link
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=27
and running into problems.
When the bootloader is trying to upgrade my SPL, it seems to to disconnect my phone from my computer in the process of upgrading. I've tried it over 10 times and the same result everytime. I've also done a master reset on my phone just ot make sure it's nothing that I may have changed in the settings.
Does anyone know what the hell is going on? I really want to upgrade my phone to WM6 and running into a problem already by just following the instructions given.

Not easy to help you if you do not give more details... Are you running XP or Vista? Is it the first time you try to flash a rom (did it work already?)? Which version of Activesync are you using? Is your USB cable directly connected to a port of your PC or through a "long chain" of hubs?...
Nevermind, I finally got it. It doesn't state inside the instructions but here is some info to anyone new who has the same problem as I did.
Make sure to check your phone when the program will be searching your phone for info. You will need to give the program a "Yes" or "No" option on your phone. So watch out for that as it will save you a lot of heartache of the whole upgrading process.

I always wanted to reinstall WM6 but i don´t know how. i don´t understand the wiki. can somebody help me with installprogram and how to install it?
I can´t activate the wifi and I already tried hardreset.
...and I can´t turn off the device either...
can somebody help me?\\gnops
do you mean re-flash/upgrade?
please be specific about your problems,
on what you are trying to solve.
we would gladly help you but still the WIKI is there to have all the information you need.
there's an upgrade wizard there in which there are steps to be followed.
making it the most concise source of information on how to upgrade.
we could post the instructions here BUT that would be a redundancy of data.
best advice? know our WIKIs.
You'll never know what problems you might get around with or not encounter, from knowing things on our WIKI.
now... im being redundant on WIKI.
P.S.
on powering on/off the device... you could always unlatch the battery notch to cut the power from your BA... then latch it again then power it on.
well...!
I want to turn off the device with the botton. but I can´t why?
and the wiki? well...I don´t understand a thing... where can i download the latest Rom and WM6? can you help me with a proper "how to do guide"?

The wiki has a how-to guide, it's the 'wizard style wiki' link under the Blue Angel WM6 home page. It really doesn't get any easier.
You also said that you "always wanted to reinstall WM6 but i don´t know how." and "I can´t activate the wifi and I already tried hardreset". That sounds like you have already flashed it with a ROM.
So, I'm kind of confused.
As to where to get a copy of the ROM, check the thread for the ROM you want to use. They "might" be listed in there.
Besides, you didn't list who your carrier is. For all we know, you have a Harrier (used on verizon or sprint), which will not work with any of the ROM's mentioned around the site.
Honestly, what many people do with their phones and these custom ROM's is not for the faint of heart, there is a very real chance that you will ruin your phone and have an expensive paper weight. If you are unsure about taking this chance, don't try it.
I am having so many problems trying to root. Im going crazy.
Quick info - I'm running 1.47.651.1 and have hoot .79, not .76
I've read all the threads here, and over at the androidforums, in regards to rooting. I've tried the ota simpleroot method, toasts method, etc. I've followed step for step w/ YouTube videos, etc. NO LUCK.
Currently I've just got a basic root, with unrEVOked3, with the clockwork mod. I only.used unrEvOked for a partial root, because every method has failed me so far. I'm a wreck! I've done one nandroid backup, after installing unrEvOked. I know that I need NAND support unlocked in order to flash custom roms, such as cm6. This is what I am trying to accomplish now. As ive said, I've tried several methods, and have done all the reading my brain can handle. All my drivers are up to date, including my adb drivers. I've got the Android sdk installed as well.
Simpleroot seems to work up until step #4, but then after rebooting, & going into the hboot screen - where it should load the pc36img file, & I should see the blue progress bar along the right side. Unfortunately, this never happens. Instead, it says the image cant be found, & displays that in green text, then just takes me back to the hboot menu. Yes, I am in charge mode. Yes, usb debugging is on. -- what's this I read about being in HTC sync mode? Is that crucial for performing step 4? i havent read this anywhere else, so im just curious. Trying to explain my situation/scenario as best I can, bc I'm really frustrated trying to root my new evo. I do have the HTC sync installed, FYI.
I know unrEvOked worked successfully, & I've at least got a partial root, since i can wifi tether no problem. I just need too unlock the nand. I end up going in circles reading the forum posts related to my issue, as they all say use simpleroot ota to gain nand access, or part 2 of toasts method. I've tried, trust me. I wouldn't be posting here if I wasn't rly stuck.
Please, someone help! I would be forever grateful if you can get me full root and gain nand access.
Everyone else is doing it, i just want to join in!
Thanks.
If there's any other information I can provide, i would be more than happy to assist. I've seen others with my same problem as well, but haven't found a solid fix yet. So thanks again on behalf of them as well!

Stop being a rent-a-mod.
Have you installed .net framework 4.0, htc sync, and disabled virus scanners on the machine you are using?
There were no error messages you overlooked on step 3 of simpleroot?
Does step 4 bring you to recovery by itself or does it sit there hanging and you manually do it yourself?
Use this method it only requires ADB and the 2nd part of Toast
Utilize the thread mentioned below. I am a new user for posting and can't do links yet but it has method in which you utilize shell commands via adb.

Thanks for your honest help. Sorry this isn't in the q&a like the above user suggested. This seemed to be the place where I would receive the most help.
Yes, I've got framework 4.0 installed, and HTC sync. All virus protection is disabled.
There were no error messages on any of the steps. I've followed it multiple times, very carefully. Even step for step with YouTube videos.
Step 4 does not bring me to recovery. Sometimes it reboots, then reboot again into hboot, but doesn't load the pc36img as it should. Just brings me back to the menu. Other times on step 4, it will reboot, but then won't reboot again into the hboot.
Hope I've answered your question.
Thanks again to all, for the help.

+1 I came into development on Saturday and there were 8-10 questions/comments at one point. I mean really with the attitudes of people what's the point of having a Q&A section... really? And to top that there seems to be this underlying assumption that if you post a question in dev that you'll get more(?), better(?) help. *shrug* Honestly, people can call me rent-a-mod, or that annoying guy who jumps on people if they post a question in Dev, I don't really care.... I get annoyed when I specifically come to a subforum (Dev in this case) expecting to see a particular subject and instead I find myself double checking to make sure I haven't clicked Q&A by mistake.

I can understand it being annoying, I am in no way saying it is acceptable. I am simply referring to the attitude people have taken toward the noobs of xda. It is not necessary.
Your statement quoted above is bull****. 9/10 threads in this section ALWAYS contain things like [ROM], [KERNAL], [METHOD], [HOW-TO], [PROGRAM] OR [TUTORIAL].
Honestly, you are trying to say that you come into this section after knowingly clicking on it, get confused as to where you are and it upsets you so much that you have to be a **** and tarnish the reputation of these forums to new users?

Next time I will take a screenshot since Toast moved all of the threads now. And, NO, I knew I was in dev, I was being sarcastic and trying to make a point.
Also, I used no profanity in any of my posts, although I was direct, and simply stated what I felt. I do not feel that any of my posts degrade or tarnish anyones name. Truth be told my very first post in XDA was in dev asking a question, and someone posted "wrong forum" or whatever.... and it was a learning moment. I didn't feel degraded or tarnished. I guess these days there are a lot of sensitive people on XDA. read: everyone should mind their p's and q's. *shrug*

Hey,
I'm pretty new here but I used Simpleroot for my first root as well. Sounds like if it is not loading the PC36IMG file it's either named incorrectly or it's not on the SD card. Can you verify that you have a file PC36IMG.zip in the root of your SD card?

Yes, I've got the pc36img.zip on my SD card, and it is named correctly. I've even tried formatting my card.
As to the 'argument' that's going on within this thread, its pointless. SORRY I didn't post in the correct place. Not like I'm the first. No need to bicker back & forth about it, that's just childish.
