Hi all !
everything is said in the title of this message ...
how many times can we flash before the memory starts to have issues ?
I'm not sure but I think about 1000 times.

I think we can do it very often, because of the use of a transcoder which map "randomly" the cells in the flash chip, in order to preserve them. So you don't use always the same cells.
the rom memory and the storage memory is using the same space.
so i believe it will break down earlier because of your daily use then flashing rom.
you know, even make a call, recieve a sms, they change the data in the memory either.
if you keep flashing rom all the time, official info of the memory shows you can flash a full size rom(128M) for 1 million times or a normal size rom(60M) for more then 2 million times. if you change average 100KB data everyday of your mobile, the memory can hold 1000000000 days before break down.

If this information is right, and I believe so, I can only use my trinity for only ~2.7 Million years ...
Maybe it's enough for me, or not...

but some times, because of hardware or software falts, your mobile will keep writting one of the block (cell) on and on and on and on......
one cell broken, all memory broken. so that situation will kills the memory much faster then you think, and that does happen.

theoretically i think you are right! 10K times is expectable without any suddenness.
just enjoy flashing the rom as you want before you change the cellphone.

Heyo, thanks for the fast reply
I tried it out, and i have to say it works pretty well.
But i'd really be happy if there would be such a programm that runs in the background all the time and clears up my RAM whenever i end programms like skype or so...
Is there any such programm?

Yeah man no problem. I'm not aware of anything that constantly runs in the background. I used to use this program all the time on my old wing, so I'm used to running it several times a day. If anyone knows of anything out there, I'd love to know.
Try HTC Addicts cleanRAM, you can set it to clean every so much hours.
http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2009/07...e-memory-from-your-windows-mobile-device.html
I'm not sure wether this is the newest version...
Really thanks a lot! This app cleans my RAM down to 60% usage every 3 hours now! That's the best result i had ever!
Even after a Soft Reset i have about 51%, so everyone looking for a good cleaner, take this one
Wow i just used htc addicts clean ram and it took me from 57% used to 48% I did the level 3 cleaning.
Is it possible for someone to explain why it is that your phone slowly fills up the ram with normal usage and you have to do this?
Also after a soft reset it uses like 54% how did it get it down to 48%?
Thanks

Can be downloaded from this post cleanRAM v1.6

Here's a new Russian release thanks to 4pda.ru
This fixes the Swype/SMS problem.
My understanding is that this is a final release candidate, and that it has the mini-bug (for non-Russians ) that the Russian T9 is missing. But if anyone is in the mood for experimenting...
It is recommended you install it whole.
(As you can see, the modem and csc files are identical to the JG1 release)

hope this one is even better
Any changes except
"This fixes the Swype/SMS problem."?
Becouse I didn't have this problem anyway.

Also installed. No Laggy/STall Bugs anymore. at the moment. Testing more with many apps open.
No lag WITHOUT the modaco "fix" ?
This would be awesome =D
@Aweb it's to early to say hurraa.....at the moment all is smooth but I'm testing the next hours. At the moment no problems. But it's a fresh wipe new install. I run now a game in the background and make some calls. there i have allways laggy dial menu during the call.
//Edit and no modaco NAND copy fix-only default ODIN install with wipe after it.
//Edit2: It's defintily better and smoother. But when i stress the phone with 2 games in the background and make internet browsing.it makes a little bit lags. But on the desire (without froyo) it makes much more lags if i do the same.
//Edit3 After stressing with more applications-the lag comes again-not so much like other firmware, but it makes a little bit pause when oping more apps. But at the moment this is the best firmware for the SGS.

Did you install all 3 files?
Can you comment on the GPS quality. Did you have GPS issues before, and are they any better now? Needs GPS Test to see whats going on, running Google Nav doesn't tell you anything useful.
Thanks for the review, dahool2008
I hope they'll finally get this lag problem fixed in future firmware revisions, sounds annoying and it's one of the reasons I haven't bought one yet.
@TravUK I has the gps issue before when i ran with copilot or navigon. the problem is definitly gone.... tested 15minutes by car.
But The Lags are all again on the phone. The Problem was only gone after flashing. I think more&more that this is really a hardware problem with the chip.
//Edit
@Tyxerakias I installed only the code&modem file
What do you think is a hardware problem? Is this the GPS again?

Lag caused by a hardware problem? Is that even possible when it has some of the best hardware around? Do we know the specs of the flash memory?

No, he means the lag reported, which [email protected] has fixed by moving data from /data to /dbdata . It seems like it's a slower memory chip causing the slowness.

some i agree with and some just give it up... or dont buy. like expanded storage that can be removed you most likly if you are apart of xda flash your phone at lease once a month when there is a new rom so this is not what you make it to be. the thing is msft has moved to the future of storage try to do the same...

Lol. That seems like a step backwards imo. Now, if you had the ability to remove your sd card and put it in other things (like it was made for) without having to wipe your phone while also still having gigs of data onboard, that would be the future of storage (even though other phones do that already.)

Microsoft won't be able to allow switching of memory cards now that they have chosen to go down this route. (Unless they release an upgrade that forces everyone to hard reset their devices) This is a problem wp7 users will always be stuck with.
Sounds like WM would be a better fit rather than WP7.

Anyway, on topic as to the leak, I've not yet experienced anything below that free ram, no matter how long my phone was on before rebooting.

A quick tip for you.
If your phones rooted, then use a file explorer with root permissions and go into /system/app & delete system apps that are pre-installed that you dont need... Only delete whats safe, for example Google Search, Zoe, etc
Is this normal ? After update to 5.1 system ram usage around 1 gig !!!!!! on 5.0.2 was 500 m
