Extended Roms???? ok i am a total n00b can anyone explain to me what these are or what you do with them?
Or at lease point me to a tutorial or info?
I also would like someone to explain what the kitchen is for?...............(& dont say cooking food ....)
any help point in the right direction would be a big help...
Thanx PPL
This is in the Wiki, I learnt from there.
Just for you, because you asked nicely, the extended ROM is what is loaded onto the phone that is non-essential to operation (basically, anything that isn't the operating system). When you hard reset, and then it starts installing software after boot; that's your extended ROM being loaded.
A lot of people make their own because they don't like/want/need the software in the extended ROM (see: O2 Active, iMate bundling Skype).
The whole cooking thing I don't really get either, I think it's just another word for rolling your own extended ROM.
Chris
Lewisham..
thanx for your help heading on over to wiki now to look a lot harder.
Cooking is all about customising your extended ROM to include the files and registry settings you want straight away after a hard reset. You will need to cook an extended ROM if you want to upgrade to 1.40 and keep your operator settings for GPRS etc.
Hi guys,
I only found this site a couple of days ago and I have already unlocked my XDA2s, stripped the O2 software, and tried out a few little tweaks.
However, I am really not confident enough yet to do anything more serious, despite being an IT & Communications engineer.
Could you please help me? I am looking for your latest ROM version to use on my XDA to completely remove the O2 stuff, hence stopping it attempting to install software after a reset. I am also missing some useful utilities, such as the battery monitor etc.
Are there any extended ROMs readily available for anyone to use, with some useful programs/utilities included?
I have looked at the wiki but don't really know what I am doing!!
Many thanks,
Bret
Oh, and I forgot to ask... is there anything available to debrand the XDA2s? I would love to stop it displaying the O2 start-up screen.
Maybe there should be an XDA-Developers start-up screen instead.
If you look through the wiki you can cusotmise your extended ROM to whatever, I ontice you have an xda 2s with vodafone- have you got any installation files (CABs) that set up GPRS, MMS for Vodafone? If not, there are cab files that are easy to add to your extended ROM, the files are here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13498&highlight=orange+mms+settings
Other useful files are things like Pocket MSN and Resco Explorer, which you have to buy, along with O2 Plus (free download - search for it, I haven't got a link!)
If you wan to make sure all the o2 rubbish is gone for good, check out the Extended ROM kitchen , find your ROM version and then unlock your extended ROM and delete all the Operator Customization CABs that install all that O2 crap.
If you want to change the startup images (better known as splash screens) have a look here...

Hi Findus,
That's brilliant, thank you. My images have been changed and the only thing O2 now is the fascia which I can't do much about unfortunately.
I have also installed the Vodafone GPRS settings but none of them work for me, not even the straight forward dialup connection. Not sure why but the same error every time just says "No modem at this location" or something like that.
Many thanks anyway, I'm much happier now. I just need to find the correct iMate ROM. The only one I can see in the Wiki is the Asian one. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
Cheers, Bret
Relative newbie to this forum extrom Version editing
How can I edit my version numbers of the extrom now that I have it the way I want(sorta)?
One other other question, I have all the registry settings for my personalizations, how to I place those in the Extrom to be invoke after a hard reset. Do I create a cab file for this like the other programs or can I just exec REGEDIT4 personalized.reg? I also can not seem to find where the speed dial entries are stored.
heading says it all really - i'm cid locked btw.
cheers

Yes, thanks to This thread.
Worth noting again, that first time around under Vista did not work, I had to dig out an XP based PC to re-flash the original T-Mobile UK WM5 ROM. I then ran the procedure a second time under XP and it worked. The OS may or may not have been the factor, first time round might have been something else. XP was required to restore the original ROM.
The update to WM6 was well worth it in my mind even if purely for the instantly noticeable speed increase of the software.
thanks gajet - i'm gettign more and more tempted. one more thing - where could i get hold of the original t-mob uk rom - just for safety.
cheers
si
if its anything like finding a WM5 tmobile NL rom i'll wish you good luck. couldn't find one after bricking my own MDA CIII trying to upgrade it to WM6.
if you brick it your only choice is to wait until the official WM6 release from tmobile UK or send it back to them for repair
hi fout
well looking at gajet's post it seems there is a uk rom out there in the wild - just wondering where i might find it....
si
I actually found you the link in the main WM6 WWE topic, it links directly to the file on rapidshare.
here you go: http://rapidshare.com/files/17854890/art_tmouk_11311001_024990_wwe_ship.exe
and good luck upgrading your device, can't wait until mine gets back
thx fout - i thought i'd seen it somewhere - you found it - cheers!
si
ok guys - i did it! worked first time - heart in mouth for 15 mins but well worth it. got all my apps working no problem and remembered to write down the t-mobile gprs settings for once!
one other benefit for uk t-mob. on web&walk standard you can't use your phone as a modem - but with this setup you can fabulous!
cheers
si
Installed it today on my MDA3c T-Mobile
But where can I configure the SMS messaging center # (+447958879879) ???
solved
from another thread (Hermes WM6) :
start>phone>menu(softkey)>options>services(tab). Select "Voicemail and Text Messages" then tap "get settings".
Hiya, that rom you posted, what rom is that? Is it an official t-mob one or is it converted from somone else? Thanks
Oh, and how does it work on the UK MDA with its missing wifi?

hi danny
it works fine with the lack of wifi - just doesn't have a button in comms manager as before. the rom we're talking about in this thread is the official t-mob uk wm5 (five) rom - which is good to have in case the update goes wrong.
i'm using bepe's rom on my mda c iii and it's tons better than the original. just make sure you read the threads first for instructions.
good luck.
si
thanks, which wm6 rom do you recommend?
If anybody interested in my few hours expirience with MDA C III UK + WM6 here it is:
Device: MDA Compact III UK original ROM,
Unlocked before wth IMEI Check
First I used the USPL as advised by Pof here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311479
It didn't work first time. I had errors 260 and 270. I repeated the process and it went OK after second time. Then I flashed with the B&W V2 rom. It seemed to end OK.
Notes: Before the play I used latest SPB Backup and made full backup in FlightMode. First thing I did after waking the device in WM6 was restore from it. The process went OK. After restart I got tens of notifications about installing untrusted or something DLLs and EXEcs. After that it hanged and didn't even wanted to wake up anymore.
So - hard reset -> partial restore -> PIM data only and it worked.
Excel and Word are buggy in terms of file handling. You can forget about them for now or use only as readers.
Comm Manager was working only up to the first reset. Then all buttons are hiden under the last one in upper-left corner. You can actualy see them rendering one after another.
GPS checked using iGo 2006 - working fine.
Conclusion:
I'm going to check how it synchronises with Missing Sync on my Mac. The latest version sould work with WM6. If it works I think I'm gonna stay with it longer. Word & Excel is not used by me often enough to stop me trying this Rom. Comm Manager - though, can try to live without it.
I have just flashed with the black and blue rom and all is well apart from the comm manager, yup, all one big mess in the top left. think its something to do with wifi, it was fine on the first boot, it showed the wifi icon but now its reset its gone all funky.
I don't think I ever saw a resolution to this problem, is there a solid fix to the soft reset problem exhibited by Dopod's WM6 Rom. Currently running rom version 3.00.707.18 (07/24/07)
The problem is simple, set up some IMAP devices, configure, Push Email, Pair a bluetooth device. Soft reset the device a few times and eventually one or all the settings get lost. Added email accounts get lost, Paired bluetooth device is no longer paired, ActiveSync loses the password... you get the idea
Hi,
You should try the latest ROM releases, i never had that problem again since.
I'm currently using build 18533.0.7.0 without any loss of information after a soft-reset.
Bye.

for mail account being lost after few softresets, you can try the mail account recovery software
http://nicolasmauri.blogspot.com/2007/01/wm5-utility-recover-your-lost-mail.html
it have repair after softreset feature, which give you auto repair your mail account with your provided info.
it works for me using pdaviet's rom
Hi, just tried last build 18533.0.7.0 (faman 3.6) but i have the same problem.
lost email accounts can be repared with the mailaccountrepair.exe app and works fine. But GPRS settings, wifi keys , BT paring disapear too on soft reset.
we realy need a solution/fix
regards.
Up !
all new roms cooked with the dopod official wm6 have this problem
can't find a solution, except don't soft reset...
people can live without softrest ?? lol
does this affect all new wm6 build on other phones? or just dopod's trinity rom bug?
anyway the first wm6 "leak" rom for trinity is not affected by this problem.
We allready know that!
All the rom's based on Dopod wm6, have that problem.
It is something from XIP section and not from the OS.
I have allready contact with mun_rus and ervius!
Mun_rus think's the problem is from the Dopod nk.exe.
So this is a bug found only on Trinity device's cause the fault from Dopod wm6 XIP!
All the new cooked rom's today use the XIP section from Oficiall Dopod wm6 rom's.
The only think sometimes changed in XIP section by cooker's is
coredll.dll-(From change the OS version) and
flashdrv.dll-(To merge the extended_rom)
Also sometime's edit the boot.hv and boot.rgu.
All the other file's in XIP stay the same.
The first wm6 leaked rom for trinity is not affected by this problem cause mun_rus use XIP section from ovosleep (Dont know where ovosleep found it).
Thank's
This is what I do and it really works for me:
[!] For prevent password and account dissapearing u should (you should make this procedure immidiatly after first soft reset ):
1. Set up your connection settings
2. Open IExplorer / Set up Ineternet connection / Open some internet page
3. Click Disconnect button to close internet connection
4. Hold power button and turn off your phone
5. Power on your phone.
After that procedure your password wont dissapear. I think that you should repeat the same for mail account (set up mail account / try to send or recieve your mail / hold disconnect button / turn off your phone)

Yes this is what mun_rus say on his first wm6 release.
Maybe that help but...
In many time's after you flash a new rom and after the auto-costumization end the device auto soft reset.
So after boot again maybe you allready have corruption your registry!
Thank's for the solution but we have to focus at these problem and find the real soution!
I allready make my XIP test's but i nead help from someone to really know how.
Thank's
I know that ausdim, but that´s what I do and afterwards I clean the registry with sktools.Seems to work. ;-)

I agree, problem needs to be figured out and corrected, makes WM6 on Trinity pretty useless otherwise
Is any one to know about XIP's for help??
I upload the two xip's.bin
The one is from the first leaked wm6 for trinity and the other is from Dopod wm6.
We whant to replace the nk.exe from the new xip.bin with the old nk.exe.
Also we whant to merge the extended_rom.
Please these is very usefull for all of us couse make the trinity doesn't loose after any soft-reset tha mail acount's the wifi data and few other think's.
So if any one know (Bepe,ervius,mun_rus.....) please help.
Many thank's
i'm a bit confused.. i've tried almost every ROM for the trinity, and i've never lost my account/connection settings after soft reset...
racerx_ At you it is established SuperSid? At the some people passwords are lost, at the some people are not present. It can it is guilty?
I Am sorry for my English
no, i haven't super-cid'd... is that the cause of the problem?
I have the same problem with ADW's ROM. He suggested that I only soft reset by pressing the powerbutton and really close down the device. I now use this procedure always for a softreset and since then I did not lose any passwords or pairing info.
I agree with most of you that there is no sense of upgrading ROMs with every build release if we don't solve this BIG bug. We are releasing a rom every week but all of them buggy.
In my case I've seen that even only using PowerDown Button reseting, somehow registry corruption happens.
I don't know if someone could fix this, but in case someone does and does need some help, count with me.
I manage to port the old good xip section...
So i open a new thread to deal with that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342269
For now we have to build all the new rom's with that rom folder in kitchen's.
Thank's
racerx_ You have not understood - at whom is SuperSid at that passwords are lost. Who does not have SuperSid that has no such problem.

Hope this help and excuse for my english.

got it... thanks!
Hi all - sorry about this, but I'm new to this. Got an Orange M700 - still running the original Orange branded WM5 OS: yup, Orange have mangled it. I've been reading the (many...many...many) threads and the wiki and... well I think I'm more confused than ever.
So, just wondering if someone can advise me on the best route to upgrade, and bear in mind I'm a graphics guy....
So, briefly
from the Orange WM5, is there a straight one-step upgrade to WM6?
What .cabs/versions should I be looking for? -> I know there are many you guys have tuned. I guess I'm looking for a fairly standard one? Unless you think otherwise!
Are there any major caveats (other than warranty/support invalidation)?
Need a little hand-holding...
Thanks in advance.
Hi, welcome..
I have M700 too, took the plunge a while back and loaded one of Mun's ROM's.
All I did was install activsync onto my pc and hook up the phone for the first time, once that ran its course I unplugged the phone powered down and removed the sim & sd card and then powered back up again.
Once up n running I plugged it back into the pc and ran the rom I had chosen, yes I was worried it might go wrong but I have to say it was and is very simple n straight forward. There is a WM5 Orange backup rom on here so if you ever did need to send back then you can flash this back onto the phone so it "looks" normal, tbh I'd doubt it would come to that.
I was using XP-SP2 at the time, not sure of anything different for Vista but that's where others here will put you straight, since then I have altered rom many a time and finally settled for Tom's Black'n'Blue - nice and fast and room to add what I want to add rather than be given. Oh and also update the radio rom to the latest version too, pretty much the same method.
Have a look at the roms and decide what you want Happy modding...
Only "gotcha" try and flash from XP, it is rumored to be problematic on a vista PC.
Also be warned flashing ROMs can be addictive, think i have tried 8 or 9 on my Trinity to find one i like, have yet to try the MUN one suggested in the previous post, looks like it will be next.
Ah, twas an early Mun rom and was WM5 - like I said the very first rom I'd flashed so I wouldn't flash to that now
Also realised why i hadn't tried it, i have tried several 6.1 ROMs and none of the WM6 ones. Probably will now i think about it though.
spv m700
Just joined the forum, thought I'd say hi.
I've just bought an spv m700 (following 2 years of the great spv m600), mainly because I wanted inbuilt gps.
The previous owner flashed it with Windows Mobile 6.1, I've yet to really test it.
First of all, I'm going to re-install all my Spb software (spb time, spb backup, spb mobile shell, etc) and transfer contacts etc via active sync.
If anyone has any advice or tips n tricks that you feel may benefit me, I'm all ears.
Cheers,
Matt.

First of all, welcome!
You have to know that the key to knowledge is searching, reading, and if none of those work, asking through posting!
So, happy enlightment and enjoy your device!
OK Monkeybox - hold out your hand - here's mine.
First thing - choose a ROM (sorry, you'll need to make your own choices). Judging by what you have said a LITE ROM would suit your needs.
I have tried most trinity ROMS. I like ADW's ROMs, am currently on Akeo's ROM but have tried LVSW, mUn, black and blue, PDAVIET, FInixNOver, ervius etc etc etc (Sorry if I've tried and forgotten your ROM!). Once you have your ROM, you should unlock the phone
1. (Hard-SPL - Service Providor Lock). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299659 This will enable you to flash a ROM with different carrier ID to you SPV M700. OK - Once you have hard-spl'd your phone, find the RUU (Rom Update Utility) exe file within the ROm that you downloaded.
2. Connect your phone (windows XP is best) using activesync and when activesync is connected, run the RUU Updater. The phone will switch off and go into "bootloader" (coloured bars on screen). If you get a connection error here, just run the RUU updater again. this time things should get going. When finished - your new ROM is installed - no more Orange!
3. Next update the Radio - search xda-developers.com using google for Trinity Radio - and choose 1.46 or 1.5x.
4. Install missing software (generally you'll need a GPS navigation software at least).
5. Enjoy.
6. If you like a ROM - donate to the cooker
7. Get a flashing addiction
8. Read all of the Kitchen threads
9. Cook your own ROM
10. Share it with us

Thank you, and all others who have responded, for your greatly appreciated advice! I've been trying to get my head around the process. Have backed up using PIM backup and settings saviour... and with your hand holding, am about to dive into the world of modding!
It's a little daunting for a newbie (and I really do mean a newbie!), but with everyones help, and this fantastic community as a resource, bah, watch me fly! (I'll probably be back tomorrow asking how I can de-brick the phone ;O) )
Thanks again all.
Cool. Upgraded to WM6.1 - Akeos latest black one.
Have to say the functionallity is 10 times better already. Upgraded to the latest radio too.
HOWEVER... and this is where the newbie kicks in, I can't seem to start any data sessions. IN COmm manager I don't have the option to turn the data connection on (this was also the same prior to the radio upgrade)
Don't suppose anyone knows how to resolve this do they?
As I say, taking my first steps on the modding ladder, and it appears I may have slipped...

You have to define your data connection from "Start, Settings, Connections, Connections, My ISP, Add new" according to your carrier (ie GPRS, 3G). Same goes to configuring MMS, just that you do it at "Start, Settings, Connections, Connections, My Work Connection" and you also have to define it in Arcsoft MMS.
You will not be able to start them from the CommManager as they connect on demand as needed, but you can STOP the in the CommManager when they are connected since they don't disconnect automatically.

Once more, thanks to all who've helped me over the threshold - the data connection must have been an issue with the signal, as this morning it was happy to connect to mms/internet via 3G/GPRS and HSDPA (which I didn't even know Orange supported).
Cheers all. Your help has been absolutely spot-on. It's refreshing to come to a community where you not only happy to help newbies, without the usual sarcasm or pomposity you find elsewhere, but you do so in a clear and concise way that really does help.

have fun with your spv
I have a problem, and the more I search the forums, the more I worry it may be due to an upgraded Rom.
The original owner of the spv m700 I just bought has by the looks of it debranded it and installed WM 6.1:
Device name: HTC_P3600i
Model NO: TRIN100
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
ROM version 3.03.751.5
ROM Date: 04/01/08
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.53.7018.01H
With Tomtom 6 installed and seemingly working, the GPS receiver is not being detected. I have done what the forums say, i.e. selected "NMEA GPC receiver", get a screen with:
COM3: GPS in COM9
COM7: RIL on COM6:
S2410 IRDA
I have clicked on the first option (COM 9 is recommended), but still no GPS device found, indoors or out, after 10 minutes of trying
Like I say, much info says the above should solve it, but others say an upgrade can knock out the GPS and it needs to have a different ROM reinstalled. Never done this before, and there may be an easier solution?
Help anyone.... please.......?!
I'm not 100% sure but I think your radio rom needs upgrading to support GPS - I'm sure the one's that do have 11 at the end of them..
Really?? It would be great to finally reach a soultion!
Can someone verify if this is true and if so, what do I have to do??
Thanks.
Hi Monkey Boy and all.
I think I'm in a similar situation that you were...
The original owner of my new spv m700 debranded it, unlocked it (by flashing an old radio ROM) installed WM 6.1. I now fear that the reason tomtom detests no GPS device is because the radio may need updating too... (see below for the spec on my phone at the moment).
Have you discovered which is the best radio to update to?
Device name: HTC_P3600i
Model NO: TRIN100
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
ROM version 3.03.751.5
ROM Date: 04/01/08
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.53.7018.01H
All advice and recommendations welcomed. I have never flashed anthing before so this is all new to me, but I like to think I learn fast...
Thanks,
Matt

Original owner would have done this to unlock it, so all you have to do is search for the latest radio rom and flash that to your phone - there are guides how to do this in here..

Hey Trixter.
Thanks for the reply.
I managed to get in touch with the original owner and he sent me a link to an an .exe file which I downloaded, ran whilst activesynced to my phone, and voila! I now have radio ROM 1.50.08.11. Tomtom 6.03 now successfully works using settings "other NMEA GPS receiver" with "GPS baud rate 115200" and "GPS in Com9"!
I'm a novice and bought the phone as a "pimped up" spv m700. But I'm learning loads since joining thanks to people like your good self answering posts, so thanks.
Matt
Thanks to seeing your signature I'm sorted! If you read anyone else with the same problem, I hope my experience helps them.

Then rather spontaneously I was unable to access some of the settings and would get a message saying the settings couldn't be opened. So I re-installed the ROM. It fixed the settings access, but only for a couple of days and it went back to not being able to access the settings. I searched the forum and found one thread that recommended deleting a registry folder, which I did without luck. Any ideas? I am presuming that this is a software issue rather than a hardware issue.
Thanks in advance.
Why don't you try switching to another ROM? Mabye this one; |ROM||WWE|| ** EnergyROM Series 1.0 21040 - HTC Snap based ROM ** || Build 50909 |
Thanks Bigmannyjr, but that ROM looks like it is still owrking out the bugs. I need something that is solid now.
you wouldnt by chabne be doing a restore using sprite backup would you? sprite backup while being a good restore program, has done things like this to me too after i switched to WM 6.1.
On a side note.... BOOMER!
sorry for the plug.
Actually was using Sprite, but did not re-install after the second ROM update so I don't think we can consider it related to Sprite.
SOONER!!
