Original or cooked - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

As I noticed that Black no longer releasing new build (becuase the official is out) I started thinking - maybe I should go for the official...
Till now I tried SCHAPS 3.57/3.54 and D-Lite. How is the official compared to these two in terms of speed and stability? What does it come with (HTC home, what dialer, etc).
Thanks

OK, the answers to your questions can be found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=355

If the oficial roms where fast and stable we wouldn't need cooked roms would we?
Official roms are like a new major brand windows pc...they come with so much "bloatware" that you will never need. So cooked roms are custom roms built so you don't have to deal with that crap with extras. Some are "lite" editions which basicly means no extras, just the rom itself.. others throw in some very good useful apps that are widely used.
So i'd suggest not to go official.

I prefer lites because i install what i want, and almost everything can be found in a cab file somewhere in this forum.

what is the stablest rom for hermes???

is the official wm6 the stablest than others cooked rom ???
No, quite the opposite. In most cases you will find that cooked roms included fix's / tweaks that improve the reliability of the official rom.
And which rom is the stablest ???
stability issues normally occur when you start to install 3rd party applications. I recommend you try a few out, customize them and then see which ones you find stable. Obviously the more recent the rom, the more stable they are likely to be due to them including the latest patches etc.
for stability I like vp3g rom
Nobody can actually tell you which is the best because it`s all depends on individual device taste, performance, radio and app preference. So, you need to start reading the cooks threads, do some testing and decide which one works best for your device.
No doubt here.
I have installed nearly all cooked roms, and as conclusion ...
One fail here the other fail there.
Now I'm on last K's rom. For me the most stable and reliable.
More than two month without flashing...
Roms are like flawours, but if you want to flash and rest for a while, for sure K's is the best choice.
Regards
for my choise there are 2 roms:
1) K's Rom WM6.0 Final (I'm using the lite version for 2 months now)
2) Olio's Rom 3.54, also lite
both are smooth, small and really fast
vp3g all way. PLEASE COME BACK!!!
K's Rom for me is the best one. Tried TNT WM 6.1, It is a good rom, but 6.1 has its bugs, which I haven't been used to for months so I went back to K's. vp3g's is a awesome rom also.
Like TNT SE myself.... Dont forget to sim/cid unlock your phone before you Hard SPL it though, could cause problems otherwise.

Is there a naked ROM based on the Official AT&T WM6 ROM?

Does anyone know if there are any completely naked ROMs based on the official AT&T WM6 release? I used vp3g for a very long time, but it really isn't naked. I want something along the lines of CRC's naked ROMs (not even a commm manager) but using the offical AT&T WM6 release.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Just build your own ROM or re-cook from CRCs ROM.
Do you need a ROM WM 6.0 or WM 6.1?

That one isn't naked, it just been "stripped" of the radio, to make flashing from a big storage, to it, to another big storage easier. Other than that, it's the official AT&T with all their stuff.
There is no official naked ROM. Either you learn how to strip and cook naked ROM or use one of the naked ROM from matt. You will have to search for it using the link below in my sign!
Thanks for the replies. As I said, I am looking for WM6, not 6.1. I was really hoping to not have to cook my own WM6, that's why I used vp3G's for so long. I had already made a "stripped" version by removing the radio, but I didn't go as far as removing everything else (this is the one I use between flashes of other roms). As for searching, have done that, but like I said, there are no naked wm6 roms out there. Guess it's time to put on the chef's hat. Once again, thanks for the replies.
Try K's lite - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350695
Or matt's naked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360289
Not to be an ass or anything, but asking for a stripped official is like asking for a condom at church. You won't find one. It will be cooked by a user or you won't find one at all.

I don't think so. There were many cooked roms that used the official ATT WM6, they just weren't as naked as many now are. I mean, just look at CRCs ROMs, the naked ones don't even come with a comm manager now.

The nature of an OFFICIAL rom is one released from the carrier. If it is cooked, it is no longer an official rom. It may be BASED off of the official rom, but it is no longer official. So again, get an official is like asking for a condom at church. It just won't happen.
My apologies for the misunderstanding, although, I'm sure if you asked around in church (to the other parishioners) you could probably find a condom or two. Unfortunately, asking the church of AT&T for a stripped rom will probably will get you just as far as asking the priest or minister for a condom. In that respect, you are absolutely correct. But since I am not asking AT&T, would it then be appropriate to say, "are there any cooked roms based upon the officially released AT&T ROM 3.62.502.3 containing OS version 18128.0.4.4 that have been completely stripped of any unnecessary software?"
So, now that that has been clarified (cooked based upon official), do you know of any cooked roms based upon the officially released AT&T ROM 3.62.502.3 containing OS version 18128.0.4.4 that have been completely stripped of any unnecessary software?
Thanks

Basic ROM update ques

Hey everyone,
Is it necessary to HardSPL before every ROM update?
I have dutty rom but bbc iplayer dosen't work on it so thinking about changing to another one...
Also what is the best way to pick a ROM? What do you compare?
Thanks
No, once you've installed a Hard-SPL it will work for every ROM update. Well, Hard-SPL's that support unsigned ROM's will work for every ROM update. Hard-SPL's that only support signed ROM's will work only on signed ROM's.
As for comparing ROM's; that is very personal.. Most popular ROM's are very much the same if it comes to speed. Differences are mainly in functionality, stability and the way they look out of the kitchen. Read the ROM topics and find out if what they have to offer suits you!
Do you want a tweaked and full functional ROM with a lot of applications cooked in? Or do you prefer a light or naked ROM, so you can save your space for just the applications you prefer and tweak it yourself?
Do you want it to look like a HTC stock Diamond or do you like what some cooks have done with the way the taskbar and TF3D look? Remember that you can install all applications, do some tweaking and change the look of your Diamond yourself.
As for stability, read the member remarks in the ROM's topics! That will give you a clue what to expect.
Just a question from my side which I cant seem to find an answer for (might be using the wrong search syntax). A ROM update should not affect the workings for your cell provider? As long as you know the MMS and other settings you can use any English (home language) ROM and your device will still pick up your service provider without a hitch?
My reason for asking is because I have noticed that even though HTC has released a new ROM past 1.93, if I go to the website enter my serial the only ROM I can download is still the 1.93. Thats why I am asking this n00b question...

"Factory Original" Rom

This may seem like a silly questions.. And Maybe I have done a poor job searching. I am looking for a very basic near Factory Original Rom with no bells and whistles. My Tytn is being used on the Rogers Network in Canada.
Can anybody point me to a link for a basic ROm
Original Hermes ROMs
Look here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
The factory ROMs are in the Upgrading & cooking section under:
Available Original Shipped WM5 ROM Versions
&
Available Original Shipped WM6 ROM Versions
Cheers!
Or, if your meaning you want to go with a cooked rom, that is where you'll have to try them on your own to see what you like, or dislike.
I suggest looking for lite roms, not naked, naked roms are missing everything that you have to add, probably not a good place to start. Anyway, lite roms should have most of the basics, then anything extra can be added later.

Another "what ROM" topic...

I'm sure everyone hates these topics, but I'm just looking for advice on what ROM to use as I've looked and can't really see any that suit my needs.
I'm after a ROM similar to Duttys 6.1 (E.g, it appears "stock"), but with the new calculator, notification manager etc from the Topaz, TF3D2, WM 6.5. There are a few ROMs that do include all these, but most include third party apps that wouldn't be in a "real" HTC ROM, or have custom TF3D2/tray icons.
Are there any ROMs available that suit this critera, or will I have to cook my own?
EDIT: Phone is GSM, and is currently running Dutty's ROM, and HardSPL. My radio and splash are fine.
i'd appriciate a good recommendation too. need a similar rom for my missus' diamond. normally i'd just try out a few but she hates setting up her phone again when i flash new roms so i have to reflash it as little as possible!
Just found this ROM, which would be perfect if it came without the extras (Then I can install which extras I want, i.e. YouTube).
looks good, seems to tick all the boxes, might give that a try!
Well then you found your own answer .
