????Was there something about every post above yours, the link provided, and the 100's of times this question was asked before you didn't understand?

Just look at the chaps location before putting someone down - T-Mobile did indeed leave the WiFi fitted to the Artemis they sell in Holand, it is only in "rip off Britain where they can get away with a stunt like this, probably because we are all stupid enough to pay for the Web-N-Walk as an extra (me included) - Mike

Thanks for the review Mike, but the OP is not in Holland, nor does the post we are referring to, discuss the differences in devices. It tells him to go to his connections settings to find WiFi on his device. This is purely incorrect as had been stated before.

Blackberry for XDA2s

Has anyone got any news on this topic, 02 say January?
How about a search on this site? A great number of us have been using BB service since 1.72.181 came out.
BB for Blue Angel... not XDAII
Dear k_kirk,
I believe that houssie was looking for BB for Blue Angel (since he posted his question on the BA forum), not for the XDAII serie (an 1.72 is clearly an XDAII rom).
I am looking for that too.
You're right of course. Apologies to Houssi & all offended.
I've been in touch with O2 who advise they are planning on a ROM upgrade at the beginning of next year to include Blackberry Support for the XDA IIs.
I was in a store in Glasgow and they advised to download the XDA II rom as this is effectively the same(!) but needless to say I didnt download it and sought advice from O2 Data support.
T-Mobile are only pushing Blackberry on the RIM devices at present, no idea if they are planning on extending to the MDA and Orange are just trialling Blackberry with the business customers at present - again no information on the SPV.
On a sidenote, it took almost 6 phone calls to various "customer service" individuals until I got a definitive answer.
Also, does anyone know if Vodafone are releasing their version anytime soon as the Company I work for use Vodafone and I'm pretty sure they'd be interested in it.
Thanks
D
justa little note that i have a xda2 device with blackberry on it. could someone tell me what its for?

FWIW, T-Mobile DE just released the BlackBerry Connect software for their MDA II's, so hopefully that's a good sign for the rest of the T-Mobile international companies!

Its 'push' software for email, it'll send your mail rather than having to dial up and sync with your mail account

Blackberry and XDA IIs
Is there an alternative to Blackberry for the XDA IIs in the meantime. I was using BB on my XDA and is was excellent - having just upgraded to the IIs, and found no Blackberry I'm in a slight dilemma.

See this post:

Unfortunately, the demo its offering appears to be scheduled retrieve rather than push - although if you go onto the smartner website, O2 UK is listed as being a partner. Strangely enough there's nothing on the O2 website about them or the service.
I've signed up to the demo and it seems ok, although I'm not convinced.
Oh and the demo will only allow you IMAP or Pop3 access, no desktop client or anything for corporate email.
Maybe once O2 offer it properly it will be a proper push service.
Have you looked at O2's xmail? Again its a retrieval service, although they're offering a 3 month free trial and it will hook into your existing exchange environment by way of a desktop connector - downside is that your pc has to be on permanently for the service to stay connected.
http://www.o2.co.uk/xmail
Cheers
Ok, I'll give the smartner a bash - got to be worth trying for three monthst - by then, maybe BB will be available on the IIs
Thanks
Ahhhhh.....seems to work....interesting.
Only allows one email account though :-( Shame!!!!
Give xmail a bash - its not restricted to O2 customers from what I've read in the [email protected] on the pages, and you can add up to two other accounts to that for it to poll them for you.
Just about to test it meself, I'll let you know what happens - problem [email protected] got is that my SSL certificate is self signed and their servers dont like it - time to enable non-ssl comms i think.
Added my home email to the xmail profile, but it still only accesses the part of the setup thats connected to the desktop connector.
It is possible to access the other mail via the web portal, but not much point since I can just configure it via pocket inbox.
Roll on Blackberry
Tried xmail when it first came out - was a bit flaky to say the least. And of course you needed the desktop client to be running for your XDA to get the mail!!!! Which is no good for me.
Like you say - bring on the BB rom update - cannot be that far away now really - especially as it works on the XDA II - how different can it be!!!!!
t-mobile releases blackberry for MDA III
t-mobile has released an update to the MDA III with blackberry i"m using it and it's great note that the rom is 1.22.01GER I tried loading the cab to the english 1.22.00 wwe but it doesn't work. iT DOES DOWNLOADING OF ATTACHMENTS and calendar updates over the air.
I take it you have subscribed to a T-mobile blackberry data plan?
Oooooo sounds interesting...not sure I want to learn German though for the use of Blackberry!!!!!
Yes, the 02 version on XDA II will do attachments too - very cool indeed.
We just need 02 to get themselves into gear and release a rom update!
Not sure if you've seen it elsewhere on the site, but apparently O2 havent arranged a support contract with RIM, so until they do I suspect we may be waiting.
But if they can do it for the XDA II then they must have something in place for it!!!!!
I have emailed a few people I know at 02 this evening to try and establish what the state of play is.
Quite frankly the more I think about it, I can see me sending the IIs back to them within 14days!!!

News on T-Mobile MDA III (UK) Rom Update

rI am told by a reliable and senior source within T-Mobile UK that they are shortly releasing a further ROM Upgrade. Thank heavens for that
And before everyone says that they have already upgraded etc.. this is of specific importance to:
1 Those who don't feel comfortable puting a different ROM on; or
2 Those like me who use Blackberry which won't work with any radio other than 1.0 and 1.6 (unofficial confimation).
Anyway watch this space because I am told end of June will be
the date. Please also pass on this news through the other fora as a lot of users are posting wanting to know about T-Mobile MDA III updates.
Thanks
J
Thanks for that info - I wait in anticipation.
Do you know any details of what issues the new ROM will address? Does it have WMP10?
MDA Unlocked ?
Jiggy
I notice your signature mentions Tmobile MDA III Unlocked.
Havin just got one yesterday I want to look to doing bloody everything on it.
Firstly, use it a a phone.
2nd - Sync it with my Mailbox on Our Exchange 2003 server which is fully accessible from the Internet. - I' think i understand that to access this server, i need to use GPRS (and also seen how expensive it is - 7.50perMb).
But what/why do i see all this unlocking terminology on these boards.
I assume there are benefits ? if so could you tell me what.
Thanks in advance.
David.
The "Unlocked" simply refers to the phone being either locked to a single provider (E.g. TMobile etc) or able to accept SIM cards from any telecoms provider. If you put a different telecom providers SIM card in your phone it either works or displays a locked message with a request to put an unlock code in.
A great number of supplied Blue Angels (And other XDA type devices) are being shipped locked to the provider who supplies it. For people who are travelling abroad and use foreign SIM cards or people who simply want to swap SIM card for a different provider are stopped from doing so.
This I feel is a very annoying situation as most providers lock you into a 1 year contract if the phone is subsidised and then refuse to provide an unlock code for that year. This is unacceptable and is simply a money generating exercise in these situations (Providers will tell you it is to stop people purchasing the phone and then disappearing with it without paying but they can block the IMEI number of the phone to stop this anyway!)
Hopefully that answers your question and allowed me to have a little rant!
Jiggy
Thanks. Totally agree with your comments.
David.
MDA III Updates/Unlocked
As regards the post quering my device being unlocked - T-Mobile UK will unlock one of its devices for £15 after 1 month's use. They did not make me wait for 12 months (the term of my contract). I happily paid this, as it is a relatively modest amount, compared to buying out the contract . They are one of the cellcos in the UK who will do this.
On the updates thread I will keep everyone updated. My contact as much as admitted that they view this site as a helpful way of getting the updates to end users. So unofficial Kudos, as always, to xda-developers

So he has worked out were he can download the cabs to install in the T-mobile Ext Rom, think he will be able to download a radio version that is newer?
I can also confirm this as the nice man at t-mobile who assisted me with enabling blackberry last friday told me that there is a patch coming soon., and that we should be informed by service message
MdA III user
LOL and Bump I like your thinking MDA III User . Good to hear from you haven't spoken in ages. You never know they may just about have taken the hint.
I am one of those high maintenance customers but I spend a fair amount so they humour me!!
J
Hi,
does anyone know what level the update will go to as I am unsure whether to wait for it or just go ahead and upgrade to 1.40 now cos I really cant be bothered to do it twice if the tmobile one is going to be better somehow :?
Any help would be appreciated
i spoek to t mobile last week while sorting out my mda 3 and they said that they thought the update would be about in september. She said that they were currently doing testing on it before the release.
however, she promised me that when available it woud be published here!

Currently they have the rom i am running.
Keep your eyes peeled for it!
Thanks for the link I have updatred wiki
Any more news on this subject??
T-Mobile have gone silent
My contact at T-Mobile has gone silent on me. Despite voice mails and emails requesting an update on a) what is in and b) release date of an update. Never a good sign :?
Can all T-Mobile customers start bugging them with me as this is the only way to raise the priority of this issue.
We still do not have WMP10 or an updated radio stack (you cannnot use BB connect with anything other than 1.0). Although with the no sound problem on certain ROMs perhaps we should be thankful!
Stength and safety in numbers on this one
I've been checking this link weekly since this thread began with no joy. Now even the link no longer works! I gues this won't be happening then!
it works
you should go on connect and then mda3 then rom upgrade and download it

Blackberry Connect on the XDA IIs

I am currently a Blackberry user and a former iPAQ user. With the Blue Angel now supporting Blackberry Connect, I will finally be able to have a Blackberry and a real MS PDA all in one.
I called O2 to confirm that the XDA II supports Blackberry. I was told that the XDA does but the XDA II does not and will never.
Can I just update the XDA II software to get the Blackberry Connect?
Thanks.
I'd phone back and hope you get someone else.
As I understand it the XDA doesn't support blackberry, the XDAII does (as I have it working on one) and the XDAiis will support it in early 2005 (supposedly).
I'm waiting on the XDAiis Blackberry Connect myself as I have two devices sat here useless without it (or at least useless in so far as I could have bought XDAII's and a WiFi SD card)
On http://www.my-xda.com site, the XDA II supports Blackberry but no mention of Blackberry on the XDA IIi/s pages.
In the O2 Business brochure that I picked up from the O2 shop yesterday, it says "Blackberry Connectivity Coming Soon" for both the IIs and IIi.
That is the problem I always had with O2, depending on who you speak you get different answers.

There's a bit just down the page which says:
Coming soon... From early 2005 the Xda IIs will support BlackBerry® connectivity so your email messages can be automatically pushed to your Xda IIs - with no dial-up and no waiting. Come back to this site soon for more information.
So it's there, which makes it even more suprising the guys on the phone don't know about it. Might be worth reading it back out to them when you phone
I've quoted the website in numerous emails to o2 data support.
the problem is that they have had a lot of compatibility issues between the device and RIM which apparently they are working on.
If I hear anything I'll let you all know.
I went into deatil with Blackberry on this @ TechED and also since then. They called me backn in response to my inquireies @ TechED. They even got a Cingular Rep to call me back and that was amazing in itself. The Cingular Rep gave me another contact and I have left him a VM (today).
I personally saw it working on an O2 Blue Angel @ Teched, I played with it a while, maybe I should have ROM dumped it but I was there for legitamate business and getting kicked out would not have been wise on my part.
Anyway, Yes it works on it!!!
Blackberry is going to contiue not giving us the SW, while Cingular is back in bed with GoodLink, so by the time Microsofts solution has fully matured, Blackberry is going to wonder where all of their clients went. Seems to me that they would hold onto us and keep the revenue flowing for as long as posible. Bad move on Blackberry's part in my opinion.
Raptor
With my current O2 Blackberry, I used the Vodafone realease to upgrade to version 4.0 from 3.7. In 4.0 there were some new Internet features that were not available in 3.7.
I used the Vodafone upgrade as O2, just like the XDA II x software, is always a few months behind. In the case of Blackberry it is 6 months and counting.
Can I proceed the same way with the XDA IIs? That is can I use the latest T-Mobile MDA softare to upgrade the O2 XDA IIs?
I don't really mind having a T-Mobile user interface as long as the BB Connect works.
Thanks.

I've got the T-Mobile software on mine. It talks to the PC no problem and it becomes my blackberry device but I can't get GPRS connection.

You need to set the APN to blackberry.net and have O2 give you access to it (for a fee).
Sorry for being dense but how do I set the apn?

No idea. I am still using the Blackberry 7230. The XDA IIs is still in the box. I should start setting it up later this week or next week.
Check out this link:
http://www.pdagold.com/articles/detail.asp?r=50&a=224
This was written when the BB Connect was only released with T-Mobile Germany.
Note that to use BB, O2 will need to add the BB Bolt-On to your plan.
OK ta, will give it a go tomorrow and let you know how I get on. I wouldn't have thought that T-Mobile will want to play ball though as I'm not there customer and am trying to get a competitors device to work using their software. But again will give it a go tomorrow.
I've already got BB on my plan, it's a sim card from a 7730 that I want to use in the XDA.

IMEI

Basically i want to change my IMEI on my XDA 2s
i bought the xda 2s about 8 months ago, but it developed a fault.
So i called o2 and they said send it back in and we will exchange it.
I ended up getting an xda 2i instead as they didnt have the 2s in stock.
But my xda2s never made it to o2 it got "lost" in the post some how and ended up being returned to me.
So now i have my xda2i and my old xda2s
According to o2 its classed as stolen.
but its not as i paid for it.
so does anybody know of how to do this? or could point me in some sort of direction
Against the law in the UK, £10k fine, 3 years in prison so I'd be careful where / how you ask, as IP addresses can be traced....
If they replaced it, it no longer belongs to you, regardless of what they replaced it for. AFAIK it is impossible to do anyway in all but early wallaby models.

fair enough.
thanks for the reply thi
will have to just ring o2 and tell em ive got it then.

In this situation, I find that telling them you need it un-barring while you get info off there works best. The monkey answering the phone doesn't know it will boot without a valid sim in place, just tell them you need it on the o2 network long enough to backup your files.....;-)

02 XDA Exec in the UK

...does anyone know if and when 02 are going to release a new ROM for the Exec?
I've had mine running now for a while with the Blackberry Connect software and it's not what you call stable. The service stops for no reason, or hangs or simply wont connect, I have to reset frequently.
I used an 02 Mini-S for a while and that was rock solid... shame the Exec isn't.
Thats the million dollar question.
Various posts about this with no answer.
I emailed O2 a week or 2 ago asking the very same thing. I did get an answer which basically said they don't know with no plans. O2 Cust service said they usually know a few months in advance but haven't heard anything.
How long is a peice of string????

Guess your company should of pressured O2 into confirm/agreeing upgrade commitment contract etc...
Sorry, I wished O2 were better ie they release some great phones/PDA devices but still think of them as 12 month contract phones. Don't see the big picture.
Company I work for (one of the big banks in the UK) where trialing the XDA EXEC but couldn't really get what they wanted from O2.
Shame as all IT guys love the machine - just software was a bit pants.

...feel enclined to agree... it would have been useful to be able to browse the web on them, but they tell us as we're on a Blackberry tariff Internet access is unavailable... tried several technical work arounds to no avail.
Odd really, previously we had some T-Mobile MDAIII's with Blackberry functionality and we could browse the web with them quite well.
We were hoping for some kind of Terminal Services remote control of our services over a VPN of some description with the Exec..but the lack of Internet access on them put a stop to that.
I don't think, this is a problem specifically with the O2 company. I beleive the entire HTC Universal device provider whether O2, IMate, TMobile, QTEK, etc... HAS NO PLANS OF RELEASING ANY ROM UPDATE FROM NOW ON. Why? To them, our device is a thing of the past. They are concentrating more on their current NEW or UPCOMING devices.

We decided to scrap the BlackBerries in favour of Mini S and Execs. That effectively brings in Exchange Push E-mail synchronisation, Phone Service and Internet access as well... not to say you can install GPS Sat Nav on them and other good things.
Granted, I had to understand how to make a Certificate Based Authentication to comply to the Corporate Policy, and having strong password is a real pain in the proverbial -- but still it beats all devices.
My only grudge against Exec is not so much free RAM; as a result Navigon MN|5 requires a reboot beforehand if you're going somewhere far - to prevent nasty surprises during the trip (esp. considering the goddam strong password which you can't enter with your finger...)

... Which is really SHAME, because there are so far NO "New" or "Upcoming" Phone Edition devices with VGA screen... Universal is one of a kind. Granted there are VGA devices with GPS - but no phone; or nice phones with GPS - but only QVGA or even 240*240 screen.
We've paid shedload of money and... once again guys, tough, go buy another one. ARRRRGHHH!!!!
Or shall we?
Screw this.
I guess during the Christmas holidays I'll just go and try one of the ROMs that can be found here - got nothing to lose and all to gain, and a good experience of flashing ROMs on previous XDA II Himalaya.
If these hold Push E-mail updates, screw the O2 updates altogether.
