Hello,
Wanted to share with you a solution I found to an annoying problem. I have the "Orange SPV 650" with French WM5 loaded. I previously owned a PDA with which I was very accustomed to using "Letter Recognition" as an input tool instead of the keyboard.
The problem is with this new P3300 phone, I couldn't write accentuated characters (like é) or punctuations (like : ; ). It seemed that "letter recognition" input tool immediately recognizes the letter once you remove your stylos off the screen, hence typing a colon ( : ) that would require two strokes would end by an apostrophe (') or a dot (.), it wouldn't wait for you to complete an eventual second stroke and adjusts recognition accordingly, which for me was a perfectly normal behavior with my PocketPC 2003 PDA.
The solution, though strange, is:
In the general settings menu, when you select "Today", you can choose between two layouts:
1. Default WM5 one, where you can put programs on your desktop such as calendar, messages, tasks, etc.
2. an Orange layout where you have a task bar at the left where you can have easier access to your applications..
As you might have expected, choosing the Orange Layout, would cause the the above problem with letter recognition don't ask me how, but I've changed this several times back and forth and the behavior is very consistent. A friend of mine has experienced the same behavior with his similar device.
Hope this helps,
Ksu

I installed VP3G's latest ROM last night, and everything worked smoothly. However, today I ran across an annoying issue. I am not sure if this issue is from VP3G's ROM or anything else causing it. So let me give you a lowdown...
Device: AT&T 8525
ROM Version: Vp3G 3.62.3
Repro Steps:
1) Go to Compose a new email message and type into the message body
2) From the slider keyboard, hit the blue-key to insert symbols in the message (the symbols are represented on the keyboard with blue characters on top of the alphabets. Example, alphabet 'F' has a blue-key '?'. So if you active the blue-key button and press 'F', the symbol '?' should be inserted.)
3) Active the blue key and hit 'F'. Instead of '?', I see '-' (hyphen) inserted into my message! This happens with a few other keys too ('~' inserts '!', etc).
Does this repro with anyone else too? Can someone suggest me a way to fix this?
Thanks!

Use the cingular keyboard map. Use HTCustom v1.7 located http://bgjobconsult.110mb.com/cab/HTCustom1.7.cab install and use it to set your keyboard to cingular.

and a friendly advice: next time try the search feature of the forum before you write such a lengthy note. It will save you a lot of time.
Good advice about the searching or try the wiki.
The ROM customizations already contain the mapping corrections, so either you cancelled something or it didn't install properly. There is also a version of HTCustom included in the System Tools folder which can be used to set the keyboard, although it shouldn't be necessary.
Thanks guys... that fixed the problem.
Sorry for the inconvinience. I will ensure that I search and/or check the wiki next time.

I uninstalled HTCustom after installing your ROM... I think that must have caused it.
I recently purchased a second hand O2 Orbit and hated the keyboard input, so I have been lookin for the best text input for text messages, having installed about 5 different input options, I found an HTC diamond interface which is fine. However, having unistalled the other input options they still appear in the list when select which input I would like, but just show the keyboard when selected.
I was basically wondering how I can remove these options from appearing on this list so th\t when i come to choose my new input option, I dont have to scroll through a whole list.....
Also, since installing these it has slowed the XDA down loads and is really annoying, is this due to the amount I installed?? I havent done anything else in the mean time.
Cheers.
I use pockettweak for that. The homepage says it's for windows mobile 2003, but it still works fine on WM6.1
Hi guys,
Bit of an annoying one this that I hope one of you extremely clever registry devs can tweak for me.
When writing emails / text messages i always use the physical keyboard, however I like the XT9 setting as it automatically spell checks and inserts capitals / punctuation etc.
The problem is i can easily set it to XT9 in the settings or by opening the software keyboard and pressing the ABC / XT9 button
or
by using the green function key, space (XT9), XT9 English
but as soon as I've completed my message or turned off the handset etc. it's forgotten, meaning I have to do this manually each time.
Is there any way to set default as XT9 in registry?
Kind Regards
Darren
Anybody got any ideas here? Driving me mad doing it manually every time.
I've just got my new TouchPro2 and I'm suffering from exactly the same problem. I love the new phone but this is the one thing that's driving me nuts!
I used to have it in my TPro and now it's gone missing in the TP2
I know, well you can still use it but many keypresses per use.
Slightly annoying.
I find this highly annoying too. I don't see why it can't be in XT9 as standard or at least just remember the last setting used!?
It's working!!! I've just found out that if you activate T9 in the Full QWERTY virtual keyboard, you'll get it work using the hardware keyboard.
did you not even read the original post?
of course it works like that, however only for that session. as soon as you're done and try and send another text or email etc you'll have to press those buttons again to activate it.
I don't have any problem typing using T9 messages after another using the hardware keyboard...
Even after I soft reset it, it's still working
haha brilliant, worked it out.
Here's the fix...i think.
Open new message in portrait, open software keyboard, click XT9 and then OK to close the window.
Rotate handset and do the same, open software keyboard, select XT9 and quit using "OK".
After this it should default to XT9.
You need to use the OK to close though and save the setting. If you send or cancel your settings will be forgotten.
This will save for all portrait and landscape modes. You'll need to do it for each area but i can agree that i have it saved in texts and emails now.
No more having to repeat actions over and over again.
Edit: seems to only save sometimes, also totally unable to save the XT9 setting in Touchflo conversation mode with text messaging.
bump...
I really enjoy using the functionality of xt9. And subsequently would greatly appreciate it having it available while using the hardware keyboard. any thoughts of having this available by default without having to set it to XT9 each time i open the keyboard
There has to be a registry setting somewhere...

It does "per session" but it does not stick on program close/reset.
boooooooooooooooooooo....man i hope someone can figure this out
Has anyone figured this out? It's really annoying that I have to enable XT9 with several different keystrokes at the beginning of any txt msg...
(Using the 9/14 NRG 2.1 STD ROM.)
HD/WVGA Tweak
On some customer ROM's I have seen a program called WVGA or HD Tweak. I searched and found CAB file for this as well. In this software, there is an option to turn on X9 all the time. You can also set how many suggested words to pop up. It reminds me of how the WING would operate when it suggested words!
Wow, thread starter, you read my mind. I've been looking for something like this since the day I got my phone.

This turns on Windows Default X9, which makes phone SIP & compact qwerty SIP inoperable (only outputs numbers). So, this in no way is a fix.
And, the cab you're referring to is EZInput 1.5 specific, has 0 affect on EZInput 2.x.

same thing happened to me when I tried to use it. Turns the phone SIP inoperable.
no solution for this issue yet? (aka, bump!)
Hi, I have got a UK Touch Pro 2 branded Vodafone but it has the latest standard HTC WM 6.5 ROM installed (after Hard SPL).
I have installed TomTom and fixed the BTTrayCE error that created and also patched the clock which annoyingly wants to always show a time 1 hour and 2 mins behind, before flipping down like a 70s alarm clock to the correct time. I’m sure the programmer thought this was fantastic, but it’s just annoying and pointless! (/rant).
My problem is that I can’t find the spell checker. On my older XDA phones and my Touch Pro 1, in text messaging after typing a message, I just did Menu --> Spell check. It even allowed me to add words which it stored in the custom.dic file which I have been carrying from device to device as I upgraded phones.
However, even using the ‘proper’ text messing in Messages-->All Messages --> new message, when I click on the menu button all I get is “Add Recipient, Insert >, Quick Text, Save as Draft and Discard”. There is no spell check option!
The Vodaphone ROM which was slow and full of bloatware and incorrect settings for my network did have a spell check under menu – as did all the previous versions of WM.
I have tried enabling the XT9 feature and it does the XT9 thing of suggesting words and selecting them when you press space. This is quite rubbish for two reasons, it doesn’t auto correct i to I and you have to watch each word carefully, because if you type “hell” it might autocorrect it to “he’ll” depending on what you last chose. This results in having to go back and change about 5 - 10% of words, which is really annoying.
I have fiddled with the XT9 settings under Start/settings/all settings/personal/input/options and the only selectable input method is “Touch Input” although the hardware keyboard works and the options don’t seem to make much of a difference.
I have been searching for 4 hours now and hope that you might be able to help, please!!
Does anyone have a similar problem? Does anyone know if the standard HTC ROM should have a spell checker or not?
When I try to enter the destination address/city/postcode, the predictive search takes over and cannot enter my address. It doesn't show what I am trying to type but only shows what it can predict, sometimes wildly different than mine.
I have the option to select a word from the predictive search bar but this then gets added to the END of the text I have been trying to type and I have to delete everything and start again.
Even entering a simple address is unbearably difficult.
Here is a quote from another forum where another user has the same problem and describes it better:
"When I go to enter a destination, CoPilot starts recommending possible locations. Let's use Leicester as an example. I type in "lei" and the first box shows "lea", while the second box displays Lea in London. So I delete the "a" and try typing in "i" again, but the system automatically corrects it to "a" again.
If I just type the complete name, the third box (XT9's auto-suggest section) shows "leicester" as the first entry. Easy, you'd think - just click on that and it'll appear in the destination box. But it adds the "leicester" to whatever is already in the search string rather than replacing it, making CoPilot unusable."
Still no response from the copilot support. I am not using Swype just the normal Samsung keypad with xt9. Does anyone else have the same issue? Or better still, is there anybody that can make copilot work on galaxy s2 properly?
