I can't remember where did I get the suggestion to use this program to get a fast GPS fix... but thanks to whoever gave the suggestion...
I tried the program today... first I was trying to get a cold fix on TomTom and iGO and it took forever with no success, then I closed the navigation programs, ran GPS Test software for less than a minute, got a fix, closed the program and then back to iGO.... in few seconds I was up and running...
Tried it several times to make sure its not a placebo
Try it guys and give your feedback

Thanks.
Unfortunately, I'm unable to download it cause it is blocked in my current location... I'll be downloading it once go home...
Did you tried it after 3-6 hours of getting the last fix?
Just to make sure that the software is the one makes the different...

Cab I posted in this thread? If so, you is welcome.

I don't think that the software itself accelerates the acquisition time, but it's still faster than tomtom in acquiring a fix...perhaps because it's only designed to acquire a fix and uses little resources? Maybe someone can shed some light on this? btw press up on the main screen to show more info.
salaam and all that jazz.

Digitalfreeze, I mentioned in my first post that I couldn't remembered who was the one who suggested this software, and now I know it's you... I should really thank you for it.... I also think that for some reason this software is only designed to test the GPS signals so it acquires the signals fast... no matter what the reason is, but it works.... I am sure it will be included in so many upcoming ROMs..... do you hear me bepe ?

Hello,
This program work very well, i couple it with "Mortscript"
And it work fine.

Some guys have issues with TT and TTFF.
If you are just looking for a soft that fix faster than TT, you can also use visualGps (much better), beelineGPS...etc... I have no issue with iGO...
This soft GPStest is not a QGPS soft, so it don't give a TTFF in less than 20seconds. Less than 1 minute is normal.
Anyway, for any GPS solution, for fast fix, be in a clear area (without buildings) and don't move (beware of athermic wingshield), you will have a cold fix in less than 1 minute, EVERYTIME !!!
Update:
before leaving home today I took the battery out for few minutes hoping to enforce a cold fix when I leave home...
Left home and ran GPS Test... UNFORTUNATELY, after about 10 minutes still no GPS fix
Looks like Myth Busted

There is no argument here...TTF is totally hardware dependant, this has been discussed many times. I just find that due to the size and speed of this app, initialization of GPS is much quicker than full blown navigation software.
If it works better for you
I think that you will have the same result with visual GPS.
Could you try it plz ?

For sure. I will try it tonight and report back. Thanks for the input.
Well I've been trying GPS Test for about a week now and I'm extremely impressed.
I've had satnav on many PDA's, onboard, wired, bluetooth and I have been geting fixes from cold in 30 or 40 seconds!
Never had that before - and thats while doing X00mph on the M4!
By far the quickest way to activate and fix the GPS is MS Pocket Streets. I don't know why, but I achieve a lock and fix outside always under 30sec.
Even with GPS Test (better than Google Maps (even runs into timeout before activating with other sw) or TomTom!) it will take almost double as long.

I tried it. It works well and it is fast. I don't like the warning screen or the appearance of the app, however we are testing performance and it does perform well. Gauges are neat too.

Anyone tried this???
To be honest: I find it a little hard to believe: threads all over the place about this SOD. All chiefs searching and searching for the solution.
And now in your first post you have the solution?
Hope it's its true...
Could you please give us some more information than "this is the perfect solution..."?
How does this patch work? any technical detail as to how this fixes the issue?
Great if it does but a little skeptical without any detail?
Cheers

SOD
IN my whole 6 months having my hermes i had never had SOD until i flashed the official dopod rom with matt kitchen. when I traced the source that SOD had came from it was a bad extended rom flash i done. This cause the device to go sleep after the screen time out, and also if i put the phone in idle mode i had to soft reset everytime.
i flashed an original operator t-mobile rom with the extended rom and all my problems went away.
My device has never been quicker no more SOD and battery life is superb with the new radio 1.47 after one whole day with normal use with 3g internet I am still on 70% battery life.
Now I have the perfect device and i think hermes WM6 crave and addiction will be thinned out as there is not much you can do now with the hermes as to wait for PROTON or fully integrated touchflo working ROM.
p.s
TRY FLASHED A AN ORIGINAL OPERATOR ROM WITH THE EXTENDED ROM YOU CAN USE ROMKOCH TO EXTRACT THOSE TWO AND FLASHED YOUR ROM BEFORE FLASHING WM6 AND GUANRANTEE YOU WILL SEE AND FEEL A MUCH MORE RESPONSIVE HERMES. THATS MY 2 cents
Running new official wm6 no more sod here so cannot verify that it works, but I had alot of sod in various other roms and if this is a solution the senior members/cooks should disect it and figure out what is the real cause of them and what exactly this fixes since they are not so forthcoming.
edit, wait reading it again it says that even soft reset fails to start up, if that is true they are not talking about any sod I have ever had soft reset does what it does resets the device and boots up.
There were many quick fixes trying to figure out the sod problem, sd card issues, active sync turning on etc, maybe this is a cab that does that.
Psiodon
I will try this
I have had SOD's several times a week.
Will try this and get back to you in a couple of days
I find that I have to SRS every morning after not touching the device all night. I have installed this cab and will report back tomorrow about the behavior of the device. It would be wonderful if this actually works. I am keeping an open mind about it.
I don't understand why you're being so mysterious about this nittin_sp. From what I can tell using IDA Pro (sorry, but I am reluctant to simply load something on faith based on "100% fix" claims alone), your patch simply sets the DWORD value "DisableAutoSuspend" in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\sys to a 1. Interestingly, on my TyTN running WM6 this is already set to a 1.
Sometimes its easier to just say this rather then create a cab. That way the rest of the community can work off your findings and perhaps explore this SOD issue better.
If your cab does more than this then please share your knowledge so we can further explore this hermes issue.
ok so I installed this. I've not had any BSOD's since doing so in a 24 hour period, when normally I'm getting them alteast every hour, sometimes more than 1 in an hour. Will report more soon. Would be good if you can post what this does though as I'd like the ROM cooks to build it in.

Hi,
Sorry if this is a dumb question - why do you need to extract the ROM and EXTENDED ROM after flashing the original operator ROM and then flash WM6?
Would it be the same if I just flash the official WM6 and reflash with the cooked WM6?
Thanks!

I have not noticed any increase in battery drain, but I did not use the phone much on the weekend. The reality is, the only time I have the problem is when I do not touch the phone and it goes to sleep. When it wakes up, there is an apparent memory issue that SRS easily resolves. But, since I have installed this cab, the issue has not reappeared - yet.
yup over 24 hours and no issue... Its looking good.

I honestly didnt even realise that the epic touch had a GPS problem going on. Mine always locks in less than 10 seconds and says accurate within 6-2m. It usually says 2m but on occasion 4 or 6. what are the symtoms of bad gps? I know it will either not lock on quickly or it wont the correct location. But what tecknically is a slow GPS lock on time to within 6m? Like 30 seconds to a minute? And what is considered not being accurate? Like within 15-30m? Im oretty curious. Maybe my 5-10 second lock on time and 2-6m accuracy is considered a GPS malfunction? I just never use it so i cant really know what is considered good or bad. I know mine uodated my position every half second to tge longest taking a full second when i used the car navigation app after putting in my desired address. Please e, plain
GPS never locks on indoors, and it takes at least a minute to lock on outdoors. Also my gps never locks on in a moving car.

GPS should lock outside in a few seconds, it should lock or almost lock indoors within a minute, and it should definitely follow you while driving so that google maps navigation works.
if it is not doing that, take your phone to sprint and get a new one. my GPS was fine when i first got the phone, then a month later it started doing what people complain about, slow lock or no lock, and not following when moving. i complained to sprint twice, paid $35 and got a new phone and now GPS works fine.
the gps tool kit, flashing drivers from the wrong phone, and editing files never gave me a permanent fix. go exchange your phone.
^This except I didnt have to pay anything (tep)

I've had a lot better results by using GPS Status. Before I use anything that requires GPS, I let GPS Status lock on, and I have a lot better results.

Speculative on indoors.... Multiple factors to account for to get an accurate and true lock...
Well I've flashed it and it actually works in my experience. I've let me phone sleep for hours and it has been an improvement over previous fixes.
Still intermittent gps though.
How is everyone going about getting a replacement E4GT? I bought mine on launch day if that changes anything.
Is this something I can do over chat?
For those of you with GPS "problems"...try the following fix next time you have issues. Not sure what causes it, but anytime my GPS starts to suck I do the following and it fixes it instantly.
Menu->Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>
Click on the "All" tab
Click on "Maps" -> Clear cache
Back to list of programs
Click on "Network Location" -> Clear cache
Exit back to home and all should work much fast....at least it does for me
Let me know if this works for you guys...
I am not sure if it is a hardware problem or software but I rooted my phone within the first 24 hours of owning it. I run Calkulins ROM V2.6 [EL13 Kernel] and EL13 modem.
I have no problem locking indoor/outdoor fairly quickly. I did notice the indoor accuracy is slightly less accurate that the Evo 4g I had, but when it comes to locking time, and outdoor accuracy or moving "target" accuracy/lock I have ZERO complaints as of now **knock on wood**

That really helped. Thanked
If your Nitro is like mine, then its' compass couldn't find North to save its' life. Or worse yet it might be in the vicinity, but is very sporadic...Makes it just about impossible to use apps like Google Star Maps or get a proper bearing on direction in Nav when you're at a stop.
If you're also like me, you've tried doing the compass calibrations with the whacky waving your phone in a figure 8 to calibrate. But this hasn't fixed my issue.
But then I tried the rotate-all-axis calibration method and now my compass is much better! Here's what to try:
1. Install GPS Status from the Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
2. Open the app, then bring up the Menu and choose: Tools > Compass calibration
3. Rotate the phone along the 3 axises a couple of times, like in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNJJPeoG8lQ
4. Press okay and your compass *should* be better
NOTE: I just noticed that when I went to test on another phone to compare (I also have a Nexus One), that my Nitro went out-of-whack again and only after a short while from previous calibration! Another calibration and it's working again, but that sucks that it lost its' bearings so quickly like that.
Give it a try and good luck!
Didn't really work for me. I really think this is a hardware issue. Do you think we should demand some kind of rebate for this or something? I know (its somewhere on the threads) that LG officially acknowledged the problem and have yet to come out for a fix. They are knowingly selling a defected phone.
anybody test the phone with any of the new official software?

Yes, it works after reboot. But calibration will be lost after flashing new ROM. I dont know where its data is stored.

still sucks. all jumpy and not accurate.
I calibrated mine acouple of times yesterday. The compass worked, but it was very sluggish or spun too fast, and unless I put it on a table, wouldn't stop spinning.
I tried today, and it worked but was very slow to catch up to my movements.
Tried some sky map apps, and it just sucks. Same with the augmented reality apps.
wish there was a fix - or we at least new the problem.
thinking I may go back to stock and send it in to telus and see if there is a fix. Anybody have a working compass after a hardware swap? or repair?
The calibration did fix (even after reboot) the compass but I've noticed it takes sometime to settle after starting an application that use the compass.
At first it looks like the infernal spinning madness is about to start over again but after a few spins it stops at the correct position and stay there.
Weird...

Dowload a program like GPS test from the play store and see if you can tell more about the problem. Any sats showing at all? Etc.
Certainly it is not a normal problem, normally it locks in seconds.
Wellllll i downloaded this app "GPS status" and i think it fixed my GPS nice !!! :good:
mine has the same problem with GPS. The issue occurs randomly. I have tried using some GPS test apps and they showed some satellites over my location but my ZL didn't get any signal from them, that's why ZL couldn't lock my location
Other times I tried again and it worked like nothing had happened. This issue happened before the 4.2 update, so I guess the update doesn't solve any thing regarding GPS issue
My ZL work a bit better when im outside my house. and when i get inside the accuracy really sucks........

yeah, we all know that it works best outside rather than inside. However, my ZL has problem with GPS even when I stand outside.
Today I ran the GPS test app while driving from work to home, it didn't lock my location, even once. It was frustrating for me
Well I also have GPS locking issues... It simply refuses to lock on to sats.. I used GPS status but it didn't solved the problem either. It shows abt 20 sats but the accuracy sucks Sky high...
But i got a solution... If I restart the phone then it locks real quick...
Hit thanks if I helped u
yehh I normally use Waze when driving... but on this ZL it seems not to lock my location :S........ is this hardware or software since many are having this issue :/
marks feresu
I have tried reboot, re-install the firmware but it just doesn't work for me.
I sent it to Sony once and when i got back, I was so happy that it worked instantly but it only lasted in few days and the issue occurs again till now.
I'm not sure if it is a problem of hardware or software either

Don't think there's a need for the info. It's a known issue. Fixes are in progress. That's pretty much the last major issue left. Camera, Data, GPS
all are working.

I was just wondering if y'all have tried the 12/20 build... It should help fix the wifi crash/reboot issues. (edit: Sorry disksteele... Didn't see your red text... I really should start paying attention before posting... lol)
When using the gps, the phone will run hot. It shouldn't get hot enough to do any damage in most conditions, but if you're using gps while charging with the phone in your pocket or on the dashboard during a sunny day with the heater on... Who knows... Good luck!

Awesome Thank you !
Hey guys,
Ive given a new chance to this ROM and ive gotta say that it runs pretty great!
However, despite a minor bug at the charging logo, ive hit 2 bugs that kinda annoy me.
-Netflix: stay on the opening page and calls a fault code after 5 mins.
-Music while plugged on headphone/car audio jack: songs just stops to play all of a sudden for no apparent reason.
Anyway, this build is pretty great while waiting for the official update.
Thanks for this beauty!

I think there's a drm issue with the lollipop builds for now preventing Netflix from working... But I could be mistaken.
The headphone issue is probably the same "OK Google" issue that popped up in the KitKat builds. Disable "OK Google" in Google Now/Google Search and see if that helps with media playback through headphones. Good luck!
Have a good one!

Thanks for the quick reply! Ill be trying this out tomorrow while Ill be on the road!
For the record, ill point out something real quick that did happen to me yesterday.
Ive been going kinda far away from civilisation to go at my Xmas party. Ive got to mention it because I wasnt able to get my data from time to time.
Got to mention that went i was stock on my phone, everything was normal. I wasnt getting a full signal but my data was on all the time.
It is possible that Ive got to a shorter signal range with this mod?

I have found that the lollipop builds are slow to switch from LTE to 3G or below, so there can be a fair bit of data interruption while LTE signal is low or drops out. In some areas around me, I have to manually change to 3G in order to have a stable connection, because the LTE signal isn't strong enough to remain stable, and the phone wouldn't switch automatically to the stronger 3G signal.
Have a good one!
Here's a little update concerning certains bugs that Ive mention above.
Music player:
Even with "Ok Google" turned off, there's still a noticeable glitch while a song is playing. After 2-3 minutes, the song would just pause itself. Ive even tried playing with the equalizer (Audio FX in this case), turned on or off, the result stays the same.
Data loss:
Changed manually to LTE to 3G that it worked. I had to wait 2-3 minutes before having it back tho.
Hope this helps!

Ok, here's a MAJOR DEFECT on my day 2.
The phone keeps rebooting in this particular order; 3 soft reboot and normal reboot.
And it's keeps on going like that non-stop.
The GPU is ****ing hot right now, dunno if this might help but I'm going to flash the old cm11 on it; im just unable to use the phone...
Keep me updated, thanks.

I flashed CM12 quite a few times already. Here are the problems that I have been facing.
Email app takes a long time to sync. And I cannot use corporate account.
When I touch something, the running application would be interrupted quickly like flipping the lights on and off.
And most importantly, the audio on the phone is too low. I tried many ways and could not get it to go higher. I can't even carry a conversation on it.
So now I'm back to my old rom.
netflix not an issue
just follow this post replace exactly the lib files , rename the old one in the folder as *backup...and netflix will load

Gotta admit that Ive been facing the same issues right here and Ive got some more to add on, unfortunely..
Navigation with Maps/Waze.
I better use it the old way which means, directions by directions. As a trucker myself, this is really annoying since my deliveries depends on it.
Incall volume.
It's low and to fix it, you have to go out of the phone app while calls is still on, get the volume up to keep going. Still dunno if my voice is okay on the other side.
Data/signal loss.
You don't have to go really far away from big cities to complety lose all lf your signal bars.
Plus, the fact of losing data pretty easily and having to switch from LTE to 3G make thing slightely better, doesn't really helps...
Unfortunately, i really loved this ROM on the first sight and wish hard as hell to give a second chance. But right now, i had to go back to my old one.
P.S.: I am posting these informations to help OP/developers where to look at. I dont want this to be seen as some negative feedback from my sorry ass...
Hope this helps once more!
Gotta say I'm loving this ROM. I'm on AT&T i317, coming from AICP Kitkat, and this thing is definitely a daily driver. Been on it for 3 days now. Good battery life, camera works, video playback is good (except embedded within browser or apps sometimes, but that has always made my phone crash while on Kitkat, on occasion.) In Chrome, I get some "distortion" or artifacts when scrolling up on down on pages where images or video are embedded. Have never seen this behavior before. Baseband is good and strong on LTE. I did notice one or two times where it lost signal for about 15 seconds then reacquired. Netflix is a no-go but I will try crislleen's suggestion and posted link above. GPS seems right on, but I haven't done a turn-by-turn trip yet. Everytime I open Google Maps, it snaps right to my location.
I only needed to clean flash the 12/23 ROM and then applied the sensor patch as mine were not working. But working great after that patch. Netflix patch is next.
Is support for this ROM going to continue? Or was it just an experiment?
Big thanks to all involved in development. Great work guys.
