I'd like to upgrade my TyTN with Windows Mobile 6. I've read many howtos but I noticed that different roms use different bootloaders. What should I load on my device to make possible to try different roms?
Thanks!
Borzo
First, use the links on my signature and go to the WIKI and from there to upgrading, flashing ROMs, etc. That will tell you everything you need to know.
As for your specific question, load Hard SPL first (go here)
This will prevent problems when you flash. BEFORE flashing make sure to READ, READ, READ. The links below in my sig can help and include Mr Vanx Upgrade Guide which I highly recommend. Then READ some more and get comfortable with what you want to do. Then follow the directions carefully.
Good luck, and have fun!
Thanks! The thousand guides I've read are Mr Vanx's.

Ok, i just flashed my hermes to WM6 the offical by HTC, but i want to flash it to one of the great OSes here.
I am scared to death of bricking my device, and i want to go ahead and learn how to go and emulate these OSes first.
I am running the SDK emulator, but i realize i need a dang .bin Os file and not the ones you guys are putting out.
You can't flash a Hermes ROM onto an emulator. Period. However, if you're that afraid, flash HardSPL first, it will protect you.
I'm not sure I understand your problem. If you just flashed the official HTC Rom the process is exactly the same - so you've already got over that problem.
I do agree with koterpillar though, flash hardspl first to help recover from any bricks you may make.
Check out Mrvanx's guide in my signature for procedures.
so theres no way i can test the firmware first and see if i like it by emulating it on my normal PC?
I am rather scared and want a guide on how to do all of this personally
i went to go load the wrapper, and it errored on it (loaded it on my PC)

do I need to unlock and flash my verizon vx6900 before I can put any roms on it. Can someone help me with this I have never done this before I would like to upgrade to 6.1 and activate my GPS.

MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERY LITTLE DETAIL AND MEMORIZE IT!!!!!!!!
To simplify what you should be doing (DO NOT FOLLOW THESE STEPS! FOLLOW THE ONES IN THE ABOVE POSTED THREAD!):
1.) Unlock your phone to allow the customization
2.) Upgrade the Radio, very important, you MUST do this step
3.) Upgrade to a custom ROM, I used OMJ's WM6.1 ROM
Just read the read linked above, READ IT!!!! I can't stress that enough, if you do not pay attention, you can ruin your device!

And after you do that .... reread again and again until you are very comfy with what you are about to do ... or .. jump right in and risk bricking the phone ...

Don't forget to read it all again!

I am aware there's threads about this, but I have searched a lot around the web, and there's many different replies to this.
I wish to root my Wildfire, running 2.2.1 with 1.01.0001. I want a more smooth-running rom than the stock, and would highly appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction
I don't know if it happens automatically, but would also like to have Livewallpapers enabled.
I'm aware there's always some kind of risk when doing such things, but I rather ask here as it seems like the best site for it!

You are correct, there are millions of guides. Any of them are fine to use, but you need to read up, loads. Learn what you are doing.
Visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
It has everything, well nearly everything you need to know about rooting. Read it ALL. Also search 'how to root wildfire' in google and read some guides. Problems only ususally occur if you dont follow the procedure correctly.
Learn the terms that people use, for example, what HBOOT is, how to access it, what a kernal and radio do, what recovery is, how to flash, what a ROM is. If you dont know what i'm on about, find out, because you will need to know.
In regards to ROMS, look for something that suits you, try different ones until you find one you like because each offer different features and styles.
Popular ROMs are Cyanogenmod 7, Rempuzzle and DKs ROM. But you can modify any part of them
Its all part of the fun of rooting.
Good luck in your quest for root access!
that's the specs of my wildfire and your lucky because it's easy to root !
these video help me to S-off first, trust me, it works on a wildfire -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvg0i8in96M, thats your first step in rooting..
then you can also view this link for the succeeding steps (never mind the downgrading step).. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
do it on your own risk
I've found this in many other forums, but can't seem to find any threads in here.
Anyway, here's a list of threads I found from other forums and I'm wondering if it's also applicable to DHD.
If it's applicable, I can just follow these lists, or should I be careful? I assume if it's required to run in other phones, it's probably required to run in DHD as well. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I intend to just follow these lists and selective remove some of them.

Appreciate any input! Thanks!
You can always dirty reflash if you delete something necessary. That XDA thread looks about right.
So, I'm new at this whole Rooting/flashing thing
My questions would be to just get some simple instructions on how to flash a new ROM over to my phone
And how to flash a new recovery over from CWM to TWRP from using odin
I see all these threads about bricking a device, so I am being overcautious lol.
honestly don't even know what I am doing, been trying to get more involved in this field, so i decided to take the leap and root the device!

The how-to is pretty simple.
How-to: flash recovery - Find which recovery you wish to use. Follow flashing instructions in the recovery's OP.
How-to: flash a new ROM - Find which ROM you wish to use. Follow flashing instructions in the ROM's OP.
It's literally that simple, just make sure you follow the most important step. It's a step that isn't listed in any of the instructions. No matter how experienced you are or how many times you've flashed any number of devices (or lack of experience thereof).. That step would be reading. Read the first post especially. I know that some ROMs will have threads that are hundreds of pages long... I'm not saying read the whole thread, but at the very least read the first post, maybe the first few pages, then skip to the end and read the last few pages. In threads with many, many pages, the OP and the last few pages will be the ones relevant to the current version.
Use Q&A for questions. There's even a "Noob Friendly" thread for dumb questions (or ones you think might be dumb), and actually is a wealth of knowledge. Use the threads in the Development section for reporting problems (and steps to reproduce them, logcats, etc), providing solutions, and offering input.
Read.
