How does one place shortcuts on the Today screen and on left hand side of the comm button?
Thanks

You can do both in "SBSH iLauncher"
Without 3rd party apps?
So there is no way to do it natively without using 3rd party apps?

Amazon's parental control Freetime app does not appear to be very useful. It seems to allow me to select only those apps downloaded from the Amazon app store, and not choose from all installed on the tablet (including the ones from Google Play).
has anyone found an alternative? I'd hate to have to go through a paying service (although, Remote Screen Time seems to work best, but still costs $5/month).
thanks!

Have you tried the "Screen Time Parental Control" app? I use it.
Kids Place would be great, but the home button can't be locked by the kids place app, because the fire launcher always starts if pressing the home button. So it is not a parental controled app...
Has anyone any idea how to make the lock possible ? Are there root rights necessary ?
Thanks,
Klaus

I deleted ghee fire launcher and am using another launcher and so the home button works fine on kids place for my son. Yes you need root to delete the fire launcher.
How habe you deleted? Which launcher do you use ? Do you habe the fire 5.1.1 ?

I use Smart Launcher. My device is rooted and it's running 5.0.1. It was a birthday gift for my 4 year old. I rooted it and disabled updates and deleted the fire launcher after I installed Smart Launcher. So I don't do anything with it now myself unless it's installing some new game for my 4 year old. Is 5.1.1 not able to be rooted? I'm not keeping up with the scene on this tablet because I don't use it myself, only when I set it up for my son, and it was on 5.0.1 after whatever initial update it got when I first turned it on.
Anyone a kids Place or secured APP running on a 5.1.1 fire?

ok, with supertool (see link at the bottom), just install google playstore and novalauncher. Permanent root is not necessary ! It worked perfectly for me and kids place doing well !
Please notice that a factory reset and a 5.1.1 version is needed before using the super tool from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=64358332#post64358332
I tried AppLock from Qizmodo, has been perfect, but isn't working with 5.1.1 anymore. Really sad. So maybe Mobile Fence will work, website says it is compatible with 5.1.1.
I don't wanna just lock apps, but set a time limit for e.g. games so that my daughter is able to use the musci player all day, but will not play games for several hours. If someone has an idea how to get AppLock running again, would be great. I contacted the company itself, but doesn't seem they are working on the app anymore.
Have you tried supertool to get novalauncher ? Maybe that can cope with applocker.

I don't see the benefit of novalauncher. I can hide unused apps, ok. But I want to use some apps with a predefined time limit. So I installed some nice games, want to define the group "games" and set a time limit for their usage, let's say 1h daily. I find no way to do that with novalauncher...
Try Nester, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.mindquake.nester&hl=en
I used the free version of dinner time, but the pay version(3.99) adds a couple non essential stuff.

Same here. But it's still possible for the kids to use "parent apps", when they let list the recently used apps (right symbol after swiping up from the bottom).

You can simply disable that via the Kids Place - Parental Control app!!!
I found a good one: lollipop launcher by mobint. It allows you to lock apps on home screen and hide others on app drawer. It's free too. I recommend it.

Really a great gestures app to mimic iOS gestures. I use the navigation gestures option because I could not deal with the navigation bar not matching my keyboard. The gestures work pretty well and I got used to them, but I did not like the Back option. Too many times trying to go back ended up with me opening recents or going home.
I really wanted a gesture to swipe the screen from left to right to go back and this app allows me to. Works great with a few customization options. It was removed from the playstore but the apk can still be sideloaded

Thanks for sharing. IMHO The OnePlus gestures are the best I've tried on any phone. The more options there are, the better off we are.
Thanks for sharing, I love the Swype from the left to go back feature
Hey Guys, if you wan't, you can also try an app called 'Fooview', which is available in playstore (No need Root access) and its amazing, you can set the swipe option from right to left for back in this app as well. it also comes with a browser, file manager, and allow to take screen short of any specified portion on your screen. It will also help to convert the 'letters' in an image to edit/copy. The main advantage is it work with very less battery drain and comes with small in size. this is one of the best app I have ever used. and I'm using this for the last 2 Years. Just try it, it is amazing.

Never mind, Ignore it. It will work perfectly.
I found both of these apps to be scetchy and not any good.
I rather sugest the app called Fluid Navigation Gesture on play store.
It gives you the Miui10 Navigations that work great without any overlay or stuff like that.

Yea, but this will work perfectly without giving the location permission. And this app is available in play-store, which is verified by the google, then will it be a malicious app ?

You'd be surprised but there are apps that are not checked more in-depth before being accepted on Play Store

There are many apps which get through the checks. Check the news, you'll find many articles about google removing app from the play store every now and then.
Even a seemingly trustworthy app can do a lot of harm. Even if the app is a bit sketchy its better to stay away from it.

I agree. I've tried damn near all the gesture apps but I keep going back to fooview. It's like 20 apps in one with an abundance of gesture options.

I find the navbar gestures severely lacking. Swipe from left or right edge up for back? On which planet? Ever tried this swipe on Chrome with a longish text loaded? All you get is a scroll back and not back. Or maybe I am misunderstanding the directions. How difficult is it to add a graphic to illustrate?
I'm currently using Pixel experience AOSP rom as my daily driver, But i'm starting to miss those old gestures of miui 10. So as title says, Is there any way i can enable those gestures on my current ROM?
Yes, Fluid Navigation Gestutes app from Play Store. It's even better than the stock gestures, since u can customize many things (some are only available in the paid version, but its dirt cheap).

Stock messaging app didnĀ“t have this feature, you have to use a third party app https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sr=ChGCAQ4KDHNjaGVkdWxlIHNtcw==:S:ANO1ljLbV5k and if at some time you switch to a Miui rom, messaging app has it.
Thank you for your guidance. But are 3rd party apps safe to use?

It's the same than any other third party app, just be sure to install it from a reliable source like Google Play.

Hello, how do I fix this problem? My experience on 3rd party launchers is very horrible because of this. I have tried clearing data and stopping system launcher but no results there. After restarting my phone it behaves normally but as I open any app it starts behaving like this.

What are you trying to do in the video. I see you swiping up..... My thoughts are first factory reset or uninstall the third party launcher. First. Get back to full stock. Then try Microsoft Launcher!
