WM6 - Two Qustions About Custom Setup - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I have spent a fair while lookig at the Wiki and also searching this and other forums.
Q1
I have WM6 installed with one of Austin's modified roms. My mobile provider is T-Mobile in the UK.
Now I know the code from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code but I will be damned if I can make it appear as T-Mobile as I stuck with UMTS T-Mobile. I would apprichate any advise, I have a regkey with 23430 and T-Mobile listed, but no luck.
Q2
One of the quick launch keys defaults to Calendar on the bottom right of my screen. Can this be changes?
Thanks.

1) go into the registry:
HKLM/Software/OEM/Phonesetting
Change the entry "Enable3GLongNamePrefix" to value 0 instead of 1.
The reason you get UMTS in your network name is becuase your attached to a 3G network, when you roam into a GSM area it will revert back to 'T-Mobile' again.
2) the calendar key can be changed easily...search for a softkey changer.

Excellent.
Thank you for a quick reply here. Much apprichated.

Can GSM Network list be updated?

Not an essential and there is definitely no hurry (I'd rather have you guys researching/developing than doing website management) but I did notice that there is no Nigerian GSM network listed.
OK, we're new and don't even have GPRS  yet but we're one of the fasrest growing mobile markets. We have four networks by the way: MTN, Econet (now Vodacom), M-Tel, and GloMobile).
If I can help (with icons or anything else) I'd be glad to.
Aide
Vodafone from the Hungarian operator list is missing too. And Westel's name changes to T-Mobile now.
Of course, it is not important thing, but a nice feature.

GSM Frequeny

I have a Orange SIM card which I got in Israel, I am now in Canada and that SIM works fine on my friends Nokia 6600, but when I try to use it with my XDA IIs I can't find any networks or anything. I am guessing its the GSM frequecy although the phone supports all of them. Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to get the SIM to work here? Does anyone know how to manually select a GSM frequency?
XDA IIs
ROM Version: 1.40.00 WWE
Radio Version: 1.15.00
Protocol Version: 1337.45
Hello psytech,
I believe you're roaming. Sometimes, you really cannot just plug your sim card then voila its working. If you are roaming, most of the time you really have to manually select the network.
anyway, i'm currently using windows mobile 2005, and no longer using windows mobile 2003 SE. i hope i could still help you or atleast you can see the pattern on how to do it.
here what you do:
1. click on the signal strength icon (the icon located on the upper right most portion of your screen just beside the speaker icon)
2. a dialogue box will appear with a clickable 'settings' button (located on lower left part of the dialogue box.), click the 'settings'
3. you will then see 3 tabs on the bottom part of the screen, 'phone', 'services', 'network'. click on 'network'.
4. you should find something like 'find network' button there, then just but before you click on it, choose 'manual' for network selection.
the rest is self explanatory, i hope i was able to help you. cheers!
You say your orange sim works fine on your friends nokia but does not work in your IIs.
Is it possible that your IIS device is sim locked as in will only work on the O2 network in the country you got it from.
If so unlock it via wiki (link in sig)
not it
I forgot to mention that the SIM worked fine in Isreal, my original SIM is orange (I do have an account with) I just can't get support cause I didn't buy the phone from them (capitalists).
About the network search. Thats what I've been doing for the last couple of days but I can not find ANY networks at all. which is what leads me to believe that its a GSM frequency problem.
What happens if you put your friends sim in your phone
GSM in Canada is generally 1900 http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_ca.shtml
doesn't work either
My friend's SIM doesn't work on my phone either. If canada is 1900, how can I make sure that my phone is currently using 1900. (I know it supports it, but how do I actually see that its actually scanning with it?)
What happens if you go to Settings->Phone->Network and then change Network Selection to Manual.
You should then get a list of networks. This will list all networks even if you cannot connect to them.
[edit] This has already be suggested earlier in the thread
If you do get some networks then the only reason that I can think of that you are not connecting is that under Prefered Networks you have a network selected that your carrier does not have a roaming agreement with.
Check your provider's website to see who they have agreements with.
no networks
My provider (Orange) has agreements with Rodgers, but my problem is that I am not listing ANY networks, I tried manual and even added the Rodgers network to my favorite networks, but when I try to search for networks I can't find any, I just get a blank window. This is very odd to me and I've never heard of anyone with that problem.
Like I've mentioned before, I updated my windows to TuMa 1.4 and my radio to 1.1.15. If there's anything else I need to do or anything I may not have done when I updated my network please tell me.
btw when I installed that TuMa windows I change my ID thingy to Tmobile.
Problem solved
Attenttion everyone:
It has come to my attention that there is a problem in the Band Selection CAB when it comes to certian cellular providers.
The problem so far appears on a Cellular One network that only supports 850Mhz. When the North American Option is choosen in the Band tab, the phone can not find a network to register on. I'm not quite sure why this happens yet, but there is a solution to fix.
http://relaysgoldens.com/sx66/ext_roms/BandSelect-fix.CAB
By installing this CAB, it provides a fourth option on the band tab, "Reset Value to Zero".
By selecting this option, the phone will be reset to it's default state, and will work normally.
I've trapped this as a bug in the 1.40.124 extrom and will be working to figure this out.
Note: the band selection setting is persistant, and will not be reset even if you downgrade the ROMs on the phone. If you are experiencing this problem, the ONLY way to reset the value is to use the CAB above.
-Chris
P.S. I've also updated the 1.40.124 RAR file on the website to include the updated bandselect CAB.

Cingular 8525 / WM6 / UMTS not working

All:
I just got a Cingular 8525 and immediately upgraded it to WM6 (it had WM5 on it for about an hour). I am in a 3g covered area but I do not think I am getting a 3g connection on the phone. I have the big upper case U in a box, and then I have the signal indicator with an E over it. This makes me believe that I am connected to Cingular's edge network. Also, if I am on the phone and I try to run a sync with activesync the phone tells me that I have a voice call in progress. Any suggestions? AT&T support was clueless.

The U indicator is UMTS - that is 3G. However, most of the newer ROMs replace it with a 3G icon. What ROM did you use? Anyway, also, you may try the reg tweak to enable the BAND tab in the Settings > Phone menu. You can find that tweak in the wiki.

I have the same thing with my rogers phone, what I'm guessing is the phone is designed to pick whatever signal is strongest, (which is usually Edge) and not often-rescan for UTMS/3G.
If you google and download Band Switcher, you can force UTMS/3G at your leisure.
I wasnt aware the USA had 3G yet? I was always told that Edge was the best they had out there from a few mobile operators in the UK.
What Radio stack are you using?
Cingular, now known as "The New AT&T (AT&T)" has 3G up and running in some of it's markets.
No one seems to be answering this question.

We have quite a bit of UMTS and HSDPA coverage here in Massachusetts on Cingular/AT&T.

Wrong mobile carrier name while roaming

I'm Usually using Orange as my carrier.
I'm currently in Hungary, where there are 3 different mobile carriers. somehow, when I wish to know to which mobile carrier I'm currently roaming into, I'm always getting... "Orange" which is impossible ofcourse.
I'm using AX3L 3.0.8 ROM with Radio 1.50.X.X
Any idea what is wrong?
I am using AX3L 3.1.1 Lite, and its the same.
I am stuck with my home network name, where ever I roam to.
But at the the triangle icon appears on the top to tell me that I am roaming.
I have to do manual select to ensure that I get on the preferred network.
I am using 3.1.2 with Radio rom 1.50.x , I have similer problem, I have problem when using it at main land china with a China Mobile sim card, I can send and receive SMS, and dial out voice call but cannot receive voice call ? Why ? But I have test it in Hongkong with a 3 ( dual band ) sim card, and it works fine ...
try this patch....(soft-reset after install!)
it didn't solve the problem
I installed the patch, the problem remains. I'm Still with impossible Orange carrier.
Update: The same problems exists also with MARY 3.1 ROM.
Is it only happening to me?
Another update: On HTC Original WM5 ROM it's OK. So something in the cooked ROMS is not good.
wrong operator name
After days playing with registry editor, I got my phone showing the name of the local roaming operator (A1) followed by orange. The bad news is that I do not know how I achieved that. Just before the miracle happened I was playing with the phone options, changing manually the carrier, and that's it... I have no idea.
I have a self coocked ROM by Pandora (5.2.1622 build 18128.0.4.4) and radio 1.54.07.00 on my Hermes. the sim is from Orange SK.
I would like to see a fix for this too, very irritating when you don't know which operator you're using. Same problem here with ADW 1.1 rom...
Hi, I'm with AX3L_WM6_WWE_v3.1.1 LITE and I have also the same problem, when I was in roaming. Any idea?
Solution anyone?

To enable the correct names change:
HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting/Enable3GLongNamePrefix=1
HKLM/Software/OEM/RIL/ShowSPNOnly=0
HKLM/Software/OEM/RIL/ShowSPN=0
(thanks to Mosquito)
I'll go abroad and in roaming in two days, but if anyone gives me a real feedback on this 'till then, I'd appreciate

I just checked, with the AX3L 312 full rom, it is now showing the correct carrier when roaming after this fix. Thanks.
I can't check, since I will not roam for the near future, but thanks anyway.

Fixed it, thanks

With this trick work perfect now ! Check by myself !
THANKS !!!
Here's a quick explanation of things:
HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting/LongNamePrefix
(REG_DWORD)
this value is usually set to "UMTS" or "3G"
HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting/Enable3GLongNamePrefix
(REG_SZ)
This one is for displaying (value=1) or hiding (value=0) the LongNamePrefix in front of the operator name, ie.: UMTS Vodafone
HKLM/Software/OEM/RIL/ShowSPNOnly=0
(REG_DWORD)
This one I believe reffers to showing service provider network only.
HKLM/Software/OEM/RIL/ShowSPN=0
(REG_DWORD)
This one I believe reffers to showing service provider network.
HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting/ONSDisplayRule
(REG_DWORD)
This is responsible for SIM provider name overriding other settings. Basically the device uses the operator names stored on SIM card rather than the ones over the air.
Bottom line: for correct operator name display, these are the settings to use:
HKLM/Software/OEM/RIL/ShowSPNOnly=0
HKLM/Software/OEM/RIL/ShowSPN=0
HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting/ONSDisplayRule=0
P.S.: Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong!

HTC HD2 Restricted connection to T-Mobile

I have an unlocked HD2 with an o2 sim. When I try to change GPRS connection settings I cannot select any network other than the original T-Mobile. The auto option is disabled. I'm not fussed about the T-Mobile splash screen but I do need to be able to connect to the o2 network (GRPS). Phone / text is fine. Any suggestions? I would like to avoid flashing the rom if poss. Roger
I have a HD2 locked to T-Mobile, all of the internet settings are obviously pre-configured for that network.
I'm not sure how to change them but I'm pretty certain you can get O2 to send you the GPRS the settings directly to the handset as long as they have the device or they may not support it.
T-Mobile
Unfortunately that isn't possible (HTC & o2 advised). Also there is no option on the connectivity wizard to update the list of telephone providers (that surprised HTC!). Presumably there is a regkey missing / overidden. Any ideas out there?
Rog
i got the same problem. theres no alternative to write a new rom to your hd2.
after that i could easily download the o2 settings...
theres a thread somewhere here to show you how its done
good luck.
