22 WM6 dialpad skins for:
WM6 today themes only
WM6 Basic dialpad
WM6 Standard Dialpad
WM6 3G Video Dialpad
WM6 3G Video screen buttons add-on
If you have upgraded your HTC Hermes from WM5 to WM6, your smartdialer application is not installed by default. Use this to get it back:
WM5 HTC Smartdialer cab (Extracted from Hermes)
(this skins are for wm5 and wm6 devices. they are named wm6 because of the buttons which are from the default wm6 dialer)
Note: Today theme is included in cab. You may install your own today theme after installing one of these dialpad skins.
Chart for reference: Which dialpad for you?

Installed the smart dialer cab and restarted the phone...
I now have no phone skin... its all white apart from a blackoutline of the back arrorow!!!
Is there any way to uninstall this cab????
As much help will be appriciated..

Install the smartdialler cab then the skin cab. You should get what you see in the screenshot.

Brilliant.... thanks very much for the assistance..
All worked ok...
Just need to get my 3g network avaliable....!!!

Thanks for the update, djstegges. You got me worried.

FYI for everybody:
Hermes users don't need to use WM5 Standard dialpad.
WM5 Basic and WM5 3G Video call sets are suitable.
WM5 Standard dialpads are for Wizard type ppl.

No problem..
Glad to help you out.

I've updated the today themes pack - 5 of the backgrounds did not load when you change themes.
Link's the same.

EXCELLENT Skin Packs.
Incase some of you don't READ. It contains the today theme, smart dialer skin and the dialpad skin.
All you have to do is to pick the color you want and install the file and you are Set.
The Video call/Phone Call button looks NICER than the screenshots posted. Highly recommended.
Thanks alot for your contribution!

swampy... nice skins/pads, etc... would you be interested in making a dialpad that will work for PTT as well? It uses a couple extra buttons.. let me know if you are up for it!

Hi Shogunmark
Sure, I'll take a look, can you point me to a PTT skin which i can use as an example?

thats the fun part.. no one has made any dialer skins for ptt yet... but i have all the files you could possibly want for it.. i can pull them all out of the rom
btw i love the black dialer... very good work indeed!

Hi Swampy, love your skins..very good work.
I checked out black 3g, and the backedition 3g dialpads, and noticed that the buttons on the blackedition were a bit darker, so I went with that one, but I wasnt a fan of the background..well really of neither..But I definitely wanted the darker buttons, so I proceeded to modify that one.
I ended up with this
and
my today being
I dont have a way to make transparent images..flaky software on mobile, but can your dialers use them? I was thinking it would be neat if the "indialer" stuff could be tansparent backgrounded then maybe an app could be created that people could use to set their today screen and dialer screen by the app, and then their dialer and today would always match, and just release colored button sets for people to customize with their own background could be released.
Like my dialer now matches my today screen, and it could always match with just changing the 2 today background images, and the 3 dialer background images, which I imagine could be done with a very simple app, but those inidialers are a pain cause they are background colored too.
I dunno maybe Im way off course.

Large Dial Buttons?
Hi,
Firstly - thanks for these skins. Look fantastic.
However I was wondering if anyone knew of any skins that used more of the screen for number keys and less for the other buttons - to allow fat fingered guys like me to dial easier...
I've had a search around but have not been able to find anything that also larger numbers and the smart dialling and video call features. Any help would be appreciated!
Many Thanks!
T

This is interesting: I'm using this on an 8525 which doesn't have Video Call. I installed one of the standard dialpads, and where the Video Call button is on the Video dialpad, there's a hole in the skin. That means that whatever app that was on screen when the dialpad is activated still shows through where the Video Call button should be. I don't need the Video button because I don't have a front camera. Is there another button I can put there?

what im saying is that the cingular dialpad doesnt use the video call button, but it DOES NOT have a ptt button there either... so a ptt dialpad would solve your issue

have not tried PTT but i'll be happy to put together a skin when you get the images. i also need any registry keys/values related to PTT. not really necessary but if it can control font colors and such, we might as well include that in to make a base template for others to tweak.

Unfortunately, the smartdialer graphics cannot be transparent. as you know, i faked the transparency , since changing background images does not change the smartdialer. It is a huge pain to do as well.
You can design a smartdialer in a way that no part of it has anything to do with the background then you can just change the 3 images you mentioned.

Usually, what is there when you're not using the skin? And where is your back button located? Same level as the numeric keypad or one row above?

There are some skins made by Basiling for Hermes whose dialpads have larger buttons and i think the smartdialer works too.
Go here:
http://hk.geocities.com/s3bl6/qvgaindex.htm
and click on hermes section
very cool stuff!
a note: basiling's skins differ from mine in that it does replace certain phone dlls.

There is usually nothing there, as the back button is on the same level as the numeric keypad. It's as if there's an extra button space added on your skin; unless I use your video skin, that extra button space shows a window to whatever app was running before the dialpad was activated (aka, a "hole" to the app behind the dialpad).

Backing Up
I've just picked up my Hermes from T-Mobile here in the UK. The buttons and skins look great but I need to back up first, what are you guys using to back up WM5?

[how to] Dialer skinning (in progress...)

I noticed that a lot of people like another dial skin instead of the standard blue WM5 dialer. There are some problems with the current custom skins available on different WM5 Phones.
So I like to start a "how to" on dialer skinning, so more people developing skins for different kinds of phones.
I would like to invite everybody with some experience to help me complete this thread, so it becomes a sort of Wiki on dialer skinning.
I would also like to invite "graphic designers" to create a database with skins.
Oke let's start:
Edit the DLL
Edit the DLL
If you want bigger buttons you have to edit the DLL
Tooling:
- Resource Editor / Restorator
- signtool.exe (included in .NET 2.0 SDK)
- Certificate (I use the SDKSamplePrivDeveloper)
Steps:
1. First you have to find the right DLL, in most cases it's the phcanrc.dll in the Windows map.
2. Open the file in a resource editor like Resource Tuner or Restorator. In the dialog map you find the different dialogs (portrait and landscape) wich you can edit, in the edit mode you can modify the fields on the dialog (unfortunately you cannot see the edges of the fields, temporarily use of borders can help).
Probably it's better to define a standard size and position for the buttons, so the dll's and graphics can be reused by all our developed skins and dialers.
Momentarily I use the next positions:
Portrait (top-left corner of button)
horizontal positions: 2, 81, 160
vertical positions: 84, 122, 158, 194, 230
button size: 78x35
3. Signing the DLL
The DLL has to be signed before you can use it, I use the signtool.exe from the .NET 2.0 SDK and the SDKSamplePrivDeveloper certificate in the same SDK.
Start the signtool in wizard mode using "signtool.exe signwizard" -> select the dll file -> custom signtype -> select the certificate from file -> browse for the corresponding key file.
I leave other settings default.
DLL Ready.
Hmm.. it would be a very interesting discussion.. And I have a small question.. Is it possible to extract the part of Phone application from Eten Roms and add it to MDA roms??.. It is the part where you can change the skins.. http://smartmania.mobilmania.cz/images/recenze/EtenM700/captures/06.jpg
here is the image sets, I used for my SmartDial BigKey Grass (see post).

Hmm.. it would be good if you were to state specifically that the skinning app you are refering is the Ethen skin. There are the other dial pad skinning, which I think the buttons are a bit small to my liking. I use the Ethens.
BTW, since we are in this topic. I used to have an idea to 'do' my own skin (Ethen dialpad), but I find getting the buttons to be exact and save to the specific names and such, is a hassle. It would be good, if there were to be a way that I can have 2-3 skin for each screen where you have the 'release' and 'press' of buttons, in calls, etc, that one can easily Photoshop them. Then, there were to be a program to just cut, rename and save them, and possibly generate a preview as well.
Is there software that can do that? I can do that in Java (my C got rusted away long time ago), but I need some precise x-y of the buttons.

Not the Eten Skin but the standard WM5 Dialer.
The buttons and other (label) fields of the standard dialer can be resized and moved with Resource Editor or Restorator as described above.
I made a dialer myself for my QTEK9100 but people with a Verizon XV6700 have a problem sending text messages, so I give them the opportunity to adjust their dialer to a nice looking skin.
It's a hassle, you are right...
In Photoshop you can use slices and layers.

If you were to moved those buttons as you described as above, and refering to your black button skin, isn't that the Eten skin? Or tell me, whats the difference between your dial pad as compared to Eten dial pad?
As for the xy for the buttons, the information you provide
horizontal positions: 2, 81, 160
vertical positions: 84, 122, 158, 194, 230
button size: 78x35
Can be used for me to get a dial pad slicer done. But you've missed the xy for the 'backspace' button as well as buttons for the 'status screen'.
And while we are on this topic, we may be well able to see if anyone is free enough to get us a dialpad changer. AFAIK, to change the dialpad, all you need to do is just replace the BMP files in \Windows (for Eten skin), so it is quite easy to do. I'm so lazy to switch dialpad as per my Today theme, I end up using a grey pad instead of coloured ones.

Some people don't get the ETEN dialer or my dialer see post to work properly on their machine (Verizon TyTN etc.) see the messages in that trhead. So I would like to give them the opportunity to modify their own standard WM5 dialer to a nicer/usable skin.
And it works, because in version 1.3 of my SmartDial BigKey dialer I modified the DLL of a standard WM5 dialer of user "Trinergy" (see also the previous mentioned thread).
Btw. all the xy positions in my dialer are in the attached txt file...
And yes a dialpad changer would be very nice...
Also need WM 5.0 SDK installed?
OK, I modified my phcanrc.dll file using Resource Tuner, and started up the signtool.exe wizard. Everything went OK until the wizard asked for the certificate, which I couldn't find.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you also need to have WM 5.0 SDK for Pocket PC installed to get the SDKSamplePrivDeveloper certificate that is required for certifying the .dll.
To download the WM 5.0 SDK for Pocket PC from Microsoft, you have to "validate" your installation by downloading Microsoft's WGA spyware.
I'm stuck here, since I really don't want to install the Microsoft Validation / "Windows Genuine Advantage" spyware stuff on any of my computers.
Sigh ...

Here are the necessary files...
I also found another way to sign files, in fact a whole tread about signing files... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=848131#post848131 and look for the signcode_294.zip (haven't tested it yet)
this is cool!
i havent yet done any of this and am still unsure where to get all the files. i really want the Vista II by JPL4 skin from paulya on my cingular 8528, except it does not include support for the smart dialer. how can i get it to work? is there a way i can install it and the smart dial modifications you have so it can work properly?
Bummer! Hit another roadblock ...
Well, I modified phcanrc.dll, signed it and loaded it into a .CAB file.
I also added all the Black Key images and some registry keys (assigning images to buttons, etc.) that I found into the new .CAB file as well.
So, I loaded the .CAB file to my XV6700, and ...
... none of the new key positions worked. Rats!
It seemed like the old standard WM5 keys were still in effect, and some of the new Black Key images were in the wrong spots.
I did a little experimenting with webpatrick's existing Big Key Black .CAB file, and found a registry key that "fixed" the problem (sort of):
HKLM/Security/Phone/Skin/ext = \windows\phcanhtc.dll
If phcanhtc.dll gets loaded, the phone keys work! However, when phcanhtc.dll is loaded, I experience other problems: Can't access phone settings, no text messaging, can't call voicemail sometimes.
Does anyone know anything about the phcanhtc.dll file? It isn't loaded by default. And, the registry key above normally looks like this:
HKLM/Security/Phone/Skin/ext = PhoneCanvas.dll
Does anybody know what's going on?
¿GotJazz?
2 webpatrick: I have installed your Black version on my MDAC 3 ... And it's working just fine. Thanks for that Cheers ...
Does that mean you can change this
Code:
CONTROL "", 23008, "MS_PHONE_CONTACTPICTURE", 0, 197, 25, 39, 52
found in phcanrc.dll to make the picture bigger?
Question : How to hide the word of speed dial in wm5 dialpad
I want to hide the word of speed dial & call history in wm5 dialpad, can it be done by edit registry? or i need to modify the dll? which dll should i modify and how?? Thanks.
Also i want to ask how to make the speaker on display in 2 lines.
Thanks in advance

Download the ZIP version if you have trouble installing .CAB on your device.
If you are using Ricky ROM v24 with CHome Configurator preinstalled, unzip CHomeConfig_Ricky_ROM_v24.zip to \Windows folder of your device.

Just downloaded and installed. Tried a few tweaks and works great. Its simple to edit the panels and also seems to work well with NRG's weather panel. Awesome app, man!

I Must Say:
This is really nice, I do have a reg editor, which is really all this is. But it has a great GUI, and unlike the OldSAPFavorites, it actually works like it's supposed to work.
I am really impressed by the author, and heck I might even try to improve on this. Although I don't really see how.
Props to the author, and to everyone who hasn't checked this out, it's definitely worth the time. It takes you to exactly what you want to edit. Updates it perfectly.
Rock on!!!
Aww man... This GREATLY eliminates the headache of having to do this through the registry! It's pretty much the same process--just a more user friendly interface!

Ops! Stupid me. Should try the apps first before commenting.
Anyway how about a module to modify the layout - changing the cpr file's fontsize, text placement and slide size. Make a visual presentation of changes being made.
Currently in order to see changes made to the cpr file, require changes in the settings>homescreen.
Thanks and thanks for such a useful apps.

And how do you propose he accomplish that ? You STILL have to reload the CHome plugin to see your changes. Besides, making a GUI editor for the CPR files could prove to a huge pain in the ass, probably not worth his time

Just responding to his comments. Too bad I'm not a coder. Well, if it can be done without hurting anyones's a$$,well and good. Otherwise....
Only suggestions I could think of for an improvements is perhaps getting rid of red for the disabled ones. Its a non-standard GUI practice. More commonly the disabled would be grey, or struck through, and an icon pair, like perhaps an eye & a circleslash (or similar) would denote the visiblity of the active ones. And maybe some way of not moving them to the bottom if they are enabled-invisible, but letting them stay in place.
Still, rather trifling things, and very nice app, that should be standadrd in any 6.1 ROM, as of now, IMHO, and should probably be in the settings Cpanel! Good stuff.
There is no software without bugs
There was a bug in version 0.9.0.0 which prevents Softkey2 URL to keep it value after the settings are saved. So I have updated the software to version 0.9.0.1. Please read the first post for more details.
Anyway how about a module to modify the layout - changing the cpr file's fontsize, text placement and slide size

It would be nice but it would be more like a software running on PC not on the phone because of its complexity and I don't think I'll have time for that for awhile

Belive me, grouping the panels by their visibility is more difficult to do than leaving them in place but I chose that way because it represents exactly what the user will get on the homescreen.
*Off topic*The version number starts at 0.9.x.x: because I haven't had enough time to implement every features I have planned for version 1.0.
Features still not implemented:
Changing page order on Customize window
Adding/Deleting page on Customize window
First of all, thank you for making such a great app. I installed it on my Vox and it works great. The only question I have is: How can I add the CLinks page? When I make it visible, it's not on the homescreen, because it's just not present in the reg. Is there an easy way of adding it?
so i was messin around with it because it diddnt seem you work i hid all the panles and now it wont load even a blank screen when i reset it it freezes at with the start menu bar showing and the windows wait symbol anyone got an idea or am i F'd
Can you still open it with Active Sync? Because if, you might wanna delete the sliding themes and then reboot. It'll probably show that it can't load a layout, but you can acces the startmenu again.

I tried that myself and it required a hard reset to fix the problem. I didn't expect the homescreen to crash like that when no panel is visible (typical Microsoft QA
To do a hardreset:
- Turn off the phone
- Remove the battery for a few seconds and put it back
- Hold both your soft keys for a couple seconds and then while still holding the 2 keys, press power on.
I'll make sure that there's must be at least one visible panel in the next release.
Top Bar Gone
When I install either this one or CHome Weather, the top bar with the status icon disappears. If I uninstall both, the top bar reappears. I have tried it several times, and I get the same results. Any ideas?

Does it just reload the homescreen? If it does, it want work with for people using the TestUIPlugin(like CHome Weather). If this panel is being used, then a reboot is needed to reload the homescreen. But I could be wrong, I was once before.

------------------------------------------------------------
THEME FOR STANDARD TF3D ( DO NOT INSTALL ON DUTTYS ROM )
This is my first post here. Thought I share this wt you all. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank some folks here which has made this possible. Below is a complete dump of my post in modaco link.
PLEASE READ INSTRUCTION HERE BEFORE INSTALLING
Here it is.....the complete TF3D package for your Touch HD. This theme has a fully functional analog, a working mini-flipclock, extended appointments, all 15 tabs and wallpaper can be updated with a press of a button for all background. The bottom bar opacity has been fixed. It is now 100% solid and I have done the same for the top bar as well.
Operator text now works. Read further below.
I apologize for the earlier mistake that during the rush of releasing this, I've overlooked and messed up some files. My intention here is to enable a fully customizable TF3D theme for everybody. So, pls read carefully and follow each instruction to get to the theme that you desire.
FIRST STEP......RESET TO ORIGINAL THEME FIRST
If you do not do this, there's no guarantee that this theme will work properly
Reseting To Original Theme Guide
Thks a million to Blessed HD. Here's the easy way to reset back to your default theme. Install Diamond TF3D Config program. You can find it in XDA. Go to the "Appearance" Tab and do a restore to default. It will automatically delete all the manila and related files.
PLS CHECK THAT YOUR ORIGINAL THEME WORKS FINE BEFORE GOING TO THE NEXT STEP!!
Installation Guide
It is not easy to make everybody happy but the closest I can do is to allow you to choose what to install. I have now broken down the key components that you need to install step by step. Drop whatever you don't want and only select those that you need. Below is a list of files and their description.
To install these files, simply copy the cab to anywhere on your mobile and click on it. Soft reset afterwards. Should you have any difficulty re-installing after multiple times, go to \windows\appmgr and delete the folder "Max Your Application Name".
1. Max Complete TF3D - Main.cab
This is the main file which will give you the analog clock, extended appointments and changeable wallpaper. The number of tabs remain as the original 11 tabs. This will the basic of my theme. You will still need to download the analog clock package which I will make available. In future, I will also create different configuration theme so that when you are bored wt this, you can always change to another look.
Remember to go and download the analog clock package to complete the theme. I have attached one analog clock package for you here. There's a selection of analog clocks on my modaco link.
NEXT, select a wallpaper to fill up the background. Go to your SETTINGS tab and choose a wallpaper ( anyone that you like ). There are already some default wallpapers that comes along with your phone.
That should complete the whole installation!!
Below are some pictures of how the theme configuration looks like. More theme configuration will come later.

AGAIN, DO NOT GO TO THE NEXT STEP UNTIL THIS PORTION WORKS FINE FOR YOU!!!
NEW UPDATE : Operator text has been solved.....finally. It now works perfectly and refreshed realtime. All cabs have been updated with this fix since 15Feb except for the main cab. Since some of you preferred to have your own text up there, I will leave the current main cab available.
----------------------------------------
2. Max Complete TF3D - 15Tabs.cab
THERE HAS BEEN REPORTS THAT THIS MAY NOT BE WORKING PROPERLY IN SOME PHONE CONFIGURATION. IF YOU ARE REALLY DYING FOR THIS, DO AT YOUR OWN RISK. SHOULD IT FAIL, RESTORE YOUR PHONE BACK TO ORIGINAL WITH THE ABOVE RESTORE METHOD.
This cab will extend your tabs to a total of 15. Even without installing the Main cab, you should get the additional 15 tabs minus all the goodies that you get with the main. Additional tabs added are as below.<br />
a. Calendar
b. Sound Setting
c. Call History
d. Comms-Manager
-----------------------------------------
3. Max Complete TF3D - Main Config 2.cab
If you are already bored with the original main theme, here's another one for you to play with. You can install this cab with or without the main.cab. Here's a pic of how it looks like.
------------------------------------------
4. Max Complete TF3D - Main Config 3.cab
Another configuration with optimized space for a slightly larger analog clock. Clock position now swapped. Date placed on titlebar. All analog clocks on goodies section should work. You can install this cab with or without main.cab
------------------------------------------
5. Max Complete TF3D - Ultimate Theme
This theme is an enhancement of the main.cab theme. It has the same positioning as the main.cab but with an additional feature and one easter egg.
1. You can now edit your own text on the top left corner. Default "My Touch HD". To change the text, pls refer to my tutorial in my modaco link.
2. Operator text works perfectly on your top right corner.
3. Analog clock will trigger your alarm settings.
Easter egg - Your analog clock can move by press+hold on it. However, I could not make it to stick after releasing. If anyone manage to find a way, pls let me know
. Only way to get it back on position is to relaunch your TF3D or soft reset.
The "Ultimate Theme - Basic" cab only changes the settings for those who wants to setup their own theme entirely. You will need to add your own analog clocks, etc.
However, to further enhance the theme, I have released another cab which I named "Ultimate Blue Theme.cab". Unfortunately, I do not know why I could not upload the cab here. So, you will have to download from my modaco link.
In this cab, I've changed the bars and bubbles to blue and add a new transparent clock with blue tip and white on transparent flipclock. I did not touch the taskbar and tabs icons as this is very much a personal taste and it will be very difficult to please everyone. So, I would rather let you customize yourself.
In addition, I have selected some of my favourite wallpapers which will be installed on your \storage card\max wallpaper folder. By using the "Diamond Background Changer Installer", you can now automatically cycle your wallpapers over a periodic time through all your tabs. The installation process is as below.
1. Download and install "Diamond Background Changer Installer". ( could be anywhere on your phone )
2. Startup the Diamond program. Change the folder destination to : \storage card\max wallpapers\
3. You can also set periodic time here. Press "Schedule" to activate it once. Then exit.
4. Now install the "Ultimate Blue Theme.cab" on your device. (Cab can be uninstalled ). Soft reset.
5. After re-boot, your theme should look like below screen and your wallpaper will cycle through based on the periodic time that you set.
------------------------------------------
PROBLEM REPORTING
Should you come across any problems ( I suggest you chk thoroughly by following my instruction above first ) before you post them. If you did, pls consider sending a screen or more information or else it is very difficult for me to fix the problem if I don't see it myself.
GOODIES
I am slowly putting up goodies like analog clocks, flipclocks and others packages for you to dress up the theme. You can download frm the modaco link above.
could you please upload cabs here also ?
Thanks, the analog clock looks really nice!!
Could you explain to me how I can change back to my provider name in the right top corner (now it says: my Touch HD).
Thx!
Furthermore, how to remove the theme??
It doesn't show up in "remove programs" :S
Hi.
I installed it and it looks very nice but i have one Problem. After Softreset i cannot change something in CommManager Tab. I cannot turn on WiFi etc. After Pressing Menu and then go to Wifi Menu and turn it on Wifi turns on and then i am able to change everything in Comm Manager Tab. Perhaps you can explain it.
MfG Uro
Would it be possible to apply just the clocks? I don't really want the rest of the theme but the clocks look nice.
thanks
thanks great work, specialy the orginal htc theme
WOW... thnx Maxycy!!! You sure did something amazing for us
Your analog and flip clock works great on my HD (CHT HK ROM)
It works great with my still under-construction "Metal Glass" theme and taskbar (which on-hold for 3-months, that's another story )
Keep up you great work mate
Most of the issues mentioned so far has been addressed.....I hope
As for the future, there's plan to only release clocks and other things minus all the other files. That's the whole reason for this as you can now more or less customize your own theme to your own liking.
Ok...I call it a day for now.
yeah, i love the clock most too~~is there any way i can just install the cloak?

Nice work.
Can we have a transparent slider on the black theme?
The theme works well with black wallpaper but if you choose another the effect is not as great.

Hi Urokinase.
Installed with no problems, the Comm-Manager screen works ok I like the slow sliding animation when a feature is activated.
Hi, I try this and now my TF3D don't start ( any solution?
My screen keeps being white.. even after i changed the wallpaper to black or abstract.. it stays white / grey?
working perfect for me, no white background or other stuff ppl have reported except the wifi thing which i havent tested yet, it shows in the new 15 tab, other than that its abit slow i kno its called the touch flo 3d but this may sound strange is it using any 3d acceleration cos i'm using the ati driver posted somwhere in the forum.
EDIT; the wifi does not work in the comm tab, also there is no data connection there, other than that its ok, and looks slick, good job.
what does 15 tabs mean? What other menu items are added?

Dafunk's Bits and Pieces

Hello, I opened this thread just as a "container" thread for the little things and mods I'd like to do and I already did. It's not so much,... but a little is better then nothing .
Ok, let's start.

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

I use Max Manila 2.5.19202525 Ultimate 2.5, and like in the "older" versions I don't like the 4 notification icons. Don't get me wrong...I don't like the way they are undersized and flattened down, and not the icon style.
I digged a little into the file "7c60907d_manila" and I found out that the size of these icons is set to 60x55 pixels, but the original size of the notification icons is 64x64. This way it's obvious that the result will be a flattened icon.
I tried to start to design the icons from another "point of view", in a way that they have to be perfectly squared and not undersized, without any quality loss given by resizing. We also will have a quality loss because of the compression when importing the *.PNGs into the manila graphic files, but this is another story...
After many tries I found out that the real notification icon size should be 59x59 pixels, so this is what I did:
The image talk better then words....I designed an icon of 59x59 inside a 64x64 image canvas, leaving 5 transparent pixels to the right of the icon and 5 below.
Then I edited the mode9 file 7c60907d_manila setting the size of the notification icons at 64x64 (and no more 60x55) and realigning to X and Y positions, being sure that this way I will have perfectly squared and spaced icons (59x59) without no stratches or no undersizing and flattenings.
I hope you can understand me...
So I started to design for fun and pure passion some icon set you can see and download . The icons sets are mostly the same, but with little differences like the buttons borders, the glossy effect over the button, the corners more rounded and so on. I also added to the majority of the sets a little shadow of 1-2 pixel to give the icons a better smoothness and "depth".....these are the little things that makes the difference: probably you will not notice, but your eyes unconsciously will catch anything.

George...I know that you would have done more beautiful, ehehehehe.
Inside each *.CAB there is also the file 7c60907d_manila with the corrected size and X/Y pos of the set.
Which I like most? I like Glossy3 and all Dusk Def sets....but I like also Noborder...
I tried to do these sets in many different ways to give you more choice, and to best fit your taste....hope you like it.

EDIT 17/11/2009:
Added CAB to restore original notification icons
Reserved for future use
Reserved for something...
Let me be the first to say -- Right On, Dude!!!
It's about time we got a bit of variety for the Ultimate notification/alert icons. No offense to g10 or max -- they are awesome -- but I've always though those default icons didn't do either of them justice. (oh, and bnm7bnm & djcedric have made some nice ones too, but it's great to have more choices)
Keep it up, Funk, these are excellent!
can you give us a cab with the original icons, so that if we don't like them, we can change back?

hey thanks.
can i have one more request?
i love the noborder icons but... do you think you can make them almost transparent?
what i mean is...
they are there, but opacity is low , so that they won't look like they take too much space of the screen. the home tab will look cleaner and bigger. IF there is a notification like 1 or more messages then the message notification icon becomes 100% visible, if it doesn't have any new messages then it goes back to 20% visible (for example).
and this goes for the other 3 notification icons too.
i am guessing that this will be easy to be fixed.
i would be thankful
Excellent work dafunk! Adding it to my list of 2.5 bits...

1) I really like TeDeV's idea for transparency, but to add one more twist -- it's always been a pet-peeve of mine to have calendar icons with a number(date) on them, it find it distracting (unless it is the REAL date, which is a great feature in manila 2.5) -- if you could possibly create a no-border version with a blank calendar icon that would make my day!
2) I think it may benefit many of us if you put all the _manila files in a "MaxTTM\Components\..." format .zip file. that would be much more convenient than the individual .cab files.
Take your time, though, I know you're busy -- just a couple of suggestions in case you get bored in your spare time

Just to say really nice icons, but FYI if you try to uninstall the icons it completely screws up maxycy theme, perhaps you can provide the files so we could install them using maxTTM, that way we can try it, if we like it...

gwbard, can be easily done. You should ask to maxycy if you want the right number over the blank calender notification icon....I think it has to be coded into a LUA script and I'm not a good coder, sorry...I don't know where to start from; these are my very first attempts with manila files

[Mod] WP7 Default Theme Reg Keys + Values / Dark Email Mod

Perhaps it is just me, but every time I go into the email app I am always bothered by the colours of it. It is actually physically painfully white at night - going from a dark themed homescreen to a pure white screen. Finally, I had enough of this and decided to fix it.
We've known the registry values for themes for quite some time and people have performed keyboard colour changes and a background colours, but I've never really modified much other than that. After playing with different theme colours for over an hour I decided I really just wanted my email app to match messaging.
WP7 uses the light theme for email, even when the rest of your phone is using the dark theme.
This is rather obnoxious.
I decided I was going to record the values of the individual themes and document their effects - this is so I can always revert to normal - and I figured these values could be helpful to others for creating their own themes.
Here are the keys I played with and their default values:
Local Machine / Control Panel / Themes / [O for Light / 1 for Dark]
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
By mapping all the dark theme values to the light one - we can have a dark themed email app to match the rest of your dark themed phone
Yes - I realize that mapping both themes to Black eliminates the point of having 2 themes - but this way your email app matches your dark theme - which is what I wanted.
I played with a series of other theme colours and could never find one I particularly liked.
So play with it and post your results, I'd love to see some cool themes that actually look nice.
Note:
You must have a way of editing the registry on your device to do this - personally I use WP7 Root Tools 0.7 Alpha, but you can use whatever method you prefer. For Nodo+ devices this means you'll also need Interop Unlock, but if you have a way of editing the registry you probably already have this.
Don't ask how to edit the registry here - there are already many threads for that.
We can go on and on about how this is better for AMOLED screens but not helpful to LCDs and all that jazz, but honestly, I just want my the applications on my phone to match and not blind me at night.
ok so this is great.... but how do I fix office? the double dark theme messes it all up cuz the office background stays white. Like where is the background image stored and can it be edited?

These are really just for reference - I imagine it may be possible at some time to change that actual background picture - but until then if you map the black theme colours to white you'll need to tone down the text colour.
The text is chosen by ContrastColor - so you can tone that down to a light grey if you want - I went with #ff383838 just to see it.
Keep in mind - there is also transparency that is going on with a lot of these default values.
Yeah, everything is perfect aside from Office. I also changed all the image values from thier 'light' version to the 'dark' (like 'ButtonBackground' for example) I just wish I could fix the Office background.
EDIT: Anyone know how to remove Office from the app list? I hardly/never use it and since it's all messed up I'd like to know if it is possible to remove it from the app list? I'm super anal about these things.
With that mod Office is wrong Background hides the content.

Yep, I had to change it back. I'm gonna see if there is some registry value we can change to just get email to use the dark theme.
Hi,
I just realized the problem you solved for yourself, but i think there must be a key what tells email app, wich theme to use, don't you think?
I wil start search for it, but i do not have the time for it for a few days now.
really nice!
could someone boil this into an xap and/or setting?
I found a reg key that is interesting.
HCU\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Main\UseThemes = 1
I made chromecolor transparent in dark theme to find out it it uses a theme in real and it uses the current theme.
Next is to find out what happens if is et it to 0.

I havent noticed a thing... i'm gonna try adding that value to "Email' and see what happens.
EDIT: and... nothing happens when the key is added under 'Email'
I have runned into a little problem.
I messed around with the white and black themes but decided to take it back to the original hex codes. So I found this topic and matched the hexes on my phone but there are still som missmatching colors more in particular in two spots in the phone.
Now, I have now idea what these areas are called in the registry and I dont know if they're the same.
If someone have any idea at all please tell me!
Where is the office file
man... I have just spent the last 2 hours meticulously going through every picture file (png, jpg, etc...) on my phone using WPDM and I found no file that contained the OFFICE BACKGROUND...
I have to think that this would possibly be defined in one of the executables for office contained within the phone as the image itself does not seem to be a separate file... It may also be defined through some of the OFFICE UI files (.dll and .mui files) also within the /WINDOWS folder...
I am posting this so you guys know this has been done and dont waste hours of your life looking for image files... We have to go past that... (Past quamtum physics... j/k jejeje)
Well, that was a waste of time... jejeje

The Office background is stored in a .dll sorry to say. The only way to fix it is to use a custom ROM.
The office background image is stored in officeres.262.dll.
You only can edit it with a resource editor, on a running device this isn´t possible... => cook a custom rom
Edit:
OMNIA 7 owners can use the full-skinned mi7ROM from mirolg (skinned by me), I´m able to update the officeres.262.dll with cabsender if needed... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574431
The problem is the black font of the office hub...

Yeah, you have to do what I did on my contable skinned ROM and change the light theme to a dark one. Then you can use office with a modded dark background.

Please send me a .rgu and the modded office background...
Here is my dark office background...
I had to edit the ShellServices rgu (C5F302AF-97F8-42B0-A119-8FFC5433D02D.rgu) to replace the default Light theme (0) basically you can just replace all the Light theme values with the copies of the Dark theme values and you will be fine. I used my own 'Night' theme for my ROM. Also if you want it I can give you the office background I made but all I did was a flood fill of black, nothing special.
Thx. I will check it and create an Update cab for the mi7ROM...
