I am trying to copy a tomtom 6 map file onto my storage card. Every file in the map folder transfers fine, except the "cline.dat" file.
The PC to phone copy application shows the progress bar of the file being copied over, but after a certain number of blocks on the progress bar, the transfer seems to reset!?
As it resets the progress bar goes back to 0 blocks and then slowly counts up again until the magic number of blocks is reached and then resets again.
Not sure if it's tom tom or the transfer software.
I have tomtom 6.01 (which seems to work fine), am connected via a usb cable to a PC with Activesync installed and tomtom home.
Is it because the cline.dat files are so big? (116mb and 535mb)
Any help much appreciated!
Problem solved.
It was just the progress bar playing up - the files themselves have now copied across.
Although it took over 20 mins for the 500MB file - does that sound right?
Are you using the phone itself to transfer files on to the storage card or an external card reader?
I was told by someone (who was helping me with it in person) that it is better to use an external card reader because there could be problems transfering it though the phone.
I should add that he uses a different model phone than the Artemis family.
it was through the phone. It looked like the progress bar wasnt calculating properly so it kept resetting, which coupled with a slooowww transfer speed meant it looked like the transfer wasnt working, whne in fact it was.

hey guys, i'm trying to figure out the best way to transfer a big file (~200mbs) to my storage card... it takes a very long time if i just drag and drop it into my storage card while i'm in active sync... any other ideas? thanks
omar
take out the storage card and put it into your computer's card reader. get an external usb model if necessary.
Bluetooth file transfers are more reliable than mounting it via activesync (or markspace missing sync for mac people), but both are vastly inferior to physical card readers.
Anyone know of a way to speed up the sync of music to dash? Sure, if I take card out and put it directly into computer -then that works - but that screws up the playlist i.e. "storage card" is not put on playlist directory path. So, transferring 2.5 gigs (4gigs SDHC) takes about 4 hours using the phone and about 3 minutes directly in computer.

Copy files over with the card in the PC, then just update the library to 'import' all the music and make available. easy.
jes, tis a good way to do it....whenever you have to transfer data through a cable rather than through a direct bus connection, its ALWAYS slow as hell. Plus the Excalibur is only USB 1.1 which doesnt help out alot either.
Thanks
Thanks for the help.

OK, I just don't get it. I've tried different PC's/Cables, etc. I have files/folders (mainly CWM, larger stuff) that will NOT drag and drop onto my PC from my GN. It makes no sense. I can view the virtual SD PERFECTLY FINE, but when I drag and drop, nothing happens. When I try to drag and drop certain things onto the virtual SD, half the time I get told that the device can't be found/has been disconnected.
I mean, this is a HUGE issue that I can't just drag and drop my entire SD Card to make a backup and then transfer those contents back on. What am I missing? I've tried connecting as MTP and PTP, makes no difference. Both of my boxes are Win 7. One is 32bit, the other is 64 bit. On top of that, I was just trying to transfer some data and the ENTIRE Virtual SD got deleted (luckily most everything was backed up). This is seriously borked. I've RTFM for days now and I can't find a solution.
Try reinstalling your drivers even if they installed fine.
Tried that. It's like the only solution is to reboot my PC. I'm fine with doing that, it's just general frustration with not understanding MTP. Is this a mass file header issue with data transfer? Something on my computer's end?
"Copying: 23 Hours Remaining"...from an SSD to Virtual SD
Less than 8 gigs of data. FML
That's odd I've always been able to just drag and drop without issues in W7.
Use Airdroid from the market. It works.
also had the same issue and gave up until i discovered Airdroid. It's also free

I second this. I don't have any problems with MTP myself but for most file transfers it's just easier to turn on AirDroid than retrieving my usb cable and hooking it up that way.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
airdroid FTW
Hi this may have already been answered but I'm having trouble locating any information on it.
When transferring from my laptop to my tablet, some of the time my files transfer fine while others won't.
Now before someone says the formats are different. I have made sure the file formats are the same.
I have included a picture of what is happening.
I have reformatted the sd and managed to get a few files on, then the same thing happens. Even previous files which have worked before come out the same way.
Please help me its doing my head in.
Can you explain what the photo is showing, It looks like you are trying to play a movie in some strange multi-windows player that i do not recognise, maybe even a streaming movie service, not copying a file from your notebook to your tab.
The only problem i have see is transfer times can me quite long, though windows transfer optimizations may be off by a bit, my brother-in law was copying a load of movies to his new 128gb, and he was getting estimates of 14 days copy time, for big transfers i take out the microsd card and use an adaptor and plug it in my notebook.
John.
Am I the only one experiencing issues with USB connection and file transfers? I'm having a very hard time using my sync tools to automate transfer of entire internal shared storage. Windows sometimes shows two internal storages. Sometimes if i copy the entire internal storage over, it will only do a few files and then crash or stop. My automated tool for syncing directories can't even access it reliably. It reads the contents and then just hangs or crashes. I can copy files over manually no problem, but sometimes if I copy bulk folders over it will crash or have some kind of issues and I have to do it again. I feel you have to manually navigate inside the internal shared storage to really get it to work, like windows can't really dig deep into the filesystem on its own.
God I miss TWRP
But what is with the usb mounted storage?
I haven't had any troubles with accessing my Pixel 6 Pro from Windows unless I accidentally hit the cable the wrong way, but then once I fix it, it works reliably for me again until/if I have another accident.
Are you using the cable that came with the phone? Is this a laptop or desktop? If a desktop, are you using a USB-C connector on the outside (top, front, or side) of your computer, or are you using a USB-C port that's directly on the back of your computer?Do you have a spare cable you can try, even if it's a different type (USB-A instead of USB-C, etc) - as long as it supports USB 3.x Gen 1 (5 Gb/s) at a minimum.Do you have access to a spare computer to test if you have the same problem with it?
Also, I don't use Windows Explorer at all. I find file transfers of any type work much better through GPSoftware Directory Opus (I have nothing to gain advertising them - I've been using Directory Opus for 30 years, so I'm very experienced with it).
There may be other Windows file managers that also work better, or there is even TeraCopy although I haven't touched that in years.
Good luck, I hope you get it working better for you. Let us know either way.
I use DOPus also!
Man, I have tried all the usb slots. The one directly on the motherboard and otherwise. If I use DOpus, if i try to copy the internal shared storage folder as a whole, it crashes part way through. But I was able to succeed if I used DOpus' synchronize tool, which digs into the directories before copying. I don't know why, but that helps. That is what I'm saying. It seems windows needs help digging into the folders before it can do anything with it.
I have also tried multiple cables including the white one that came with it. No big difference.
Cool that you're a DOpus fan too!
Is there any chance you can have temporary access to another computer to try with it? If necessary, you could try a computer at the library just for testing purposes.
Back when I used CodeSector TeraCopy, it had a way of more easily integrating with DOpus, specifically, if you end up trying TeraCopy and see if it helps.
Also, is this Windows 10 or 11? (I'm on 10)
