Bike helmet and earplug+mike - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hello,
I don't want to spend in a bluetooth specialised set for bikers.
I'd like to use the stero headset provided with the P3300, but change the earplugs, will any standard walkman-like fit ?
The mike may be more complicated stuff to choose, right ?
Thanks for your help,

Ya mean...
something like this?

Half the way home
Sure !
Thanks !
The question remaining is about microphone :
Is it possible to wire out one from the control commodo in order to fix it to the wind shield of the helmet, and glue the commodo on the helmet side to control answering and volume ?
Sounds possible, but I'm not sur of wiring and mike choice...
Merry Christmas evrybody,

Hmm.. What is commodo by the way?
If you're adventurous enough, you can actually cut and extend the wire any way you like it. Just need to re-join the right wires in place.

I meant the 'little grey plastic thing" with the buttons of volume control.
How would you call it, switch ?
Does someone know what kind of microphone to buy ?

bluetooth head set
hi try this lets you put any head phone you like in your helmet and you can play music or have sat nav directions in stereo

Thanks Mr Jimmy,
But the purpose is to drive out phones and mike out of the plastic control.
I'll try some welding, but still wonder about the mike to use.

Own headphones handsfree connector

The sub-standard quality of the supplied earphones prompted me to look for a better alternative. The 2.5 to 3.5mm adaptor is a good one but it negates the use of the control console (phone buttons, mic., etc), so I decided to make my own connector which I fitted above the control console. I can now use any 'quality' headphones to listen to music and use the phone handsfree function.
Its pretty easy to do, if you know how to solder, which is not difficult in itself. If anyone wants more detail of what I did or wants me to make a connector for them, let me know.
Yes, what a great job.
i am thinking the same thing, please tell us more information how to do that, and more pictures.
thank you.

Superb!! Way to go, M8!
2.5 to 3.5 adaptor based on std earpiece
Please can you let me know how much, I want to use my sennheiser earphones.
Richard Racer
nice i wanted to make the same but a few things held me back
1 canabalizing the working headset could cause problems if the stereo wiring in the xda headset were poor quality and i could end up having to listen to music in the bus played by the normal speaker on the xda adding to the enjoyment of the rest of the pasangers
2 if the length of the mic and buttons had to be near my mouth the length of rest added headset would be added making me look like a d00d who were a bit too much into rubber and of cause the added lenght could cause music quality loss not that i would notice with the music i listen to
I would like to see the details and more pictures if possible. Thanks.
amaaaaaaaazing!! can you please show us how did you make it? :?:
well i asume he just strip the wires and solver them on to the connector of the female 3.5 minijack connector
not sure what he pictures should show some light on
I've been asked to formally write up the process and include further pictures. I shall be doing this this week and will post it when complete.
I would like to know how to do this also.
Don't waste your time soldering, and cutting, and fixing up your existing wires.
The wire is already available on the market.
I use in in my AUX-INPUT in my car so that the sound comes out the speaker system in my BMW, and the microphone remains enabled. The sound is fantastic. In addition, you can use the wire to listed attach to headphones, (listen to music) while the microphone stays enabled.
Here are the two places you can purchase the cable... (I am in no way affiliated to either).
www.arkon.com : the part number is ADPT04 - and it cost $9.95. You have to call in the order - it's not on their website. (it ended up costing me $13.95 shipping included - to CANADA!\)
www.handheldcanada.com - Same part number... different price (17.95 Canadian PLUS shipping).
Enjoy.

How to make a xda2 car kit

Hi,
I'm planning to make a car kit for my xda2 using a second-hand car kit from another phone, a spare cradle and some creative thinking.
My aim is to make an installed car kit with the following features:
1) Charge the phone from the car battery.
2) All phone and pda audio to come from the car speakers, not the pda speaker.
3) Easy to put in and take out of cradle.
4) Able to use voice activated software via installed car mic.
I will document what I do (with photo's) here and try to put together a step-by-step guide, but I could use some help.
Has anyone tried this with any amount of success? I have seen the connector pin diagrams etc on the wiki site. Can anyone add to these?
Just as imporantly, has anyone tried this and fried their xda2??? :?
Please post your advice here and I'll let you know how I go.
Cheers,
Hooligan
Have tried it with a nokia cark91 but with no succes because the nokia cark91 uses the FBUS to activate certain features.
Didn't have enough knowledge of both to write a program which could emulate the FBUS protocol.
Will be watching your progress. Very interesting!
Success.

T-mobile can't build one, O2 can't build one, Catcomm can't build one, even i can't build one
Why do you think you would succeed ?
Serious : All the info needed is on this site, and/or in my head. Theoreticaly it should work, but it doesn't.... Biggest problem is that the XDA2/MDA2 ONLY gives audio trough the bottom connector if you're in Call, so forget voicedialing or TomTom over the carkitspeaker.
Easyest solution is to build a carkit with you can connect to the headset connection.
Connectors ?

Hi Jpiek,
thanks for the words of encouragement!
I'm studying the circuit diagrams for the nokia car kit I have obtained. I'll let you know how my experiments go...I have to agree, I think that the earphone jack may be the best way to go....
Hooligan
I spent many hours doing this with an XDA I, and got something sort of working but not what I really wanted. Here are some notes...
The XDA I has a horrible ground loop problem on both the input and output. I don't know if the II has the same problem, but I imagine so.
The output is very low, requiring a pre-amp. And because of the above, it had to be ground-isolated, which adds a lot of complexity (for someone like me who is MANY years past high school electronics class...).
Ericsson and Nokia car kits require some proprietary signalling in order to function, so they were useless as a starting base.
The built-in mic is actually quite usable in-car, producing a slightly hollow and distant sound but not horribly so. It has quite effective echo cancellation.
Thank you very for this address

OK, looks like zapro has beaten me to the punch.
He has updated the connectors page in the wiki with a car kit wiring diagram and has started a new post - "Finally !!! DIY car-handsfree for XDA"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=11063
I'll keep experimenting as I don't think he has all of the audio output through the car stereo yet.
Well done Zapro!

Ofcourse not, his solution allready worked over here, but it wasn't good enough for me. For phone i use a BT headset. I want all audio !!
(Yes, i'm still trying..)
Yes it DOES work !!
Hehe, my homemade carkit DOES indeed work flawlessly !
I Have an extra box besides the electronics shown in the diagram, a box with a amplifier and some relays. when the phone rings, i press a button, that powers the amplifier and the relays, disconnecting the speakers from my car-radio and over to the little amplifier. i promised you some pictures here a day ago, but i don't think it's nice enough to show off yet. i need to make a new case for the amplifier and relays. the one i am using now is just a box from the junkcase.
I Will be back soon !
// Per
My XDA carkit was relativly easy ;
I opened the Tomtom cable on the XDA side and wired pin 2, 3 and 4 to a general Car-amplifier...
I used the internal mic, with a brodit holder: perfect!

Wanted: A Wired stereo hands free kit.

Can anyone recomend a replacement for the standard stero handsfree kit that comes with the MDA Pro.
I've seen these http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/10098.htm, but was wondering if anyone knew of any better ones?
I'm also looking for such a headset. The one on your links looks nice, but is there a volume control on it? I can't see that.
The one in mobilefun.co.uk is just the same as the one came from the box.
There is no other alternative so far I could find....
Though I found one (and I ordered already) from
http://pc-mobile.net/pqtaa.htm
that is for a 3.5mm headphone/mic jack.
So, I will post again if this really fits the Universal....GOOD LUCK!!!
Cheers,
Yeah, the headset fits without any problem.
That is the same as the HP Ipaq 54xx/55xx/63xx/65xx, Toshiba e75x/80x.
Although its a bit expensive, USD33 including postage....
Cheers,
Just out of curiousity, what happened to your hands free kit that came with the unit, guys?
The original one comes with the package is excellent except that it is too lengthy and the pair of earphones always messes with others.
I would like to have a single lead earphone that I can change to stereo when I want.
So, the one that I just got is perfect but it is quite easily to be damage....
Cheers,
  My over excited dog snagged them with a paw when I got home from work and I think she snapped the cable inside the sheathing.
Wired headset with headband with wires
Can anyone recommend a headset for the Universal that
IS NOT BLUETOOTH
Has a headband with good sized speakers, not earbuds and dangly wires
IS NOT BLUETOOTH
Microphone, PTT switch, volume
and isn't bluetooth? i.e. it's wired to the 4 pole jack?
Thanks
Nick
Hi Chris,
Thanks for the info!
I have one of this headset that I bought few years ago for my XDA/Wallaby (with the 2.5mm plug). Yes, its very easy to be damaged (very delicate) but yet mine is still functional until now. Some part of the wire is already torn and I have to put some tape on it.
I use it mainly to connect my XDA/Wallaby to my car stereo system.
Thanks that you share this info, now I know that there is a suitable version for the Universal as well.
Do you mind to confirm back that the headset indeed works perfectly with the Universal:
1. The call answer button
2. The microphone
3. Volume control
4. The stereo jack
I will definately get one if you can help clarify that every point is working fine. Thanks in advance.
Yeah. Everything is fine altough the answer key need more practices.
Good to hear that the info is usefual.
Cheers,
Thanks Chris!
The answer button, you just press it once to pick up a call right?
What special practice do you need?
I sticked my old one (for the XDA) in my car dashboard near the stereo system. So when the phone rings, I just press it once and the call then will be in the car speakers. The microphone is not that great, ppl usually complaint me that my voice is so low, but guess what, they indeed can hear me.

This is exactly what I'm trying to set up in my car,how do I do it? I tried using a splitter (one 3.5 mm male plug with two female 3.5mm openings) and running one end to my car stereo, and the audio from the call comes through the car speakers nicely but I can't use either the mic from the included (in the box) headset for voice nor will the device's mic work...

[Q] [almost Q] Stereo speaker mod [almost Request]

Yeah, it is correct. I'd like to know if there is a possibility to add anothe or a whole two speakers to nexus 5 for stereo music :cyclops:. Yeah, it IS possible, but would it be fairly easy to do? Is there enough room to put there another speaker? Or maybe I would need to remove microphone, put it somewhere else, then rewire headphone jack wire to the additional speaker and the phone would think that I am using my headphones all the time..? Would I need a custom circuit to reroute headphone jack and still use it (amplifiers etc)? Would anybody risk their phones to get a decent stereo on their device? I don't have N5 yet, but I am planning to get it in few weeks (1 to 3 weeks). What is your opinion on this? Are there any experts in DIY electronics to help me (and probably other users) with this? Yeah, a lot of questions, but maybe someone is competent to answer these? I would be really happy Thanks
EDIT: Is this right section?

Wrong section. But good luck.
I don't think there's enough space, you don't have a stereo amplifier for the speakers and I think you'd be better off with a phone that was designed from the beginning with stereo speakers.
Also, having stereo speakers right beside each other kind of defeats the purpose. The OPO does this and there is little to no discernible separation between both the speakers on the bottom.

Exactly. It would be mono x 2 ... Though some pple don't realise different sound comes out each spker.NOT XDA readers

Autopumpkin head unit SWC resistor values

Hello Everyone
I've a head unit from Autopumpkin: MTCC-KLD6-V2.91 RK3188 Android 5.1.1, and I'm really happy with this head unit.
No crashes and also no hangups that suck your battery empty over night (i had this many times with other, first headunit).
So I'm actually try to make a CAN->HU converter for the steering wheel buttons.
I've my ATmega microcontroller at the moment in the state where he is able to decode the can-signal of my car and filter the steering wheel buttons out.
So, now I'm on the interface between microcontroller and head unit.
I try to do that with a digital potentiometer like MCP413X so that I can digitally setup different resistor values.
Now my question:
Does someone know the resistor values that are usable for this or the space between certain values?
Is there a standard for that?
Thank you in advance

No shame in taking the easy way out, you obviously lack the technical skills. No need to be butt hurt.
