I-Mate PDA2k Freezng problem - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi there im have just brought a second hand i-mate pda2k and it is having problems with locking up. i have tried updating to WM 5 which still had same problem. i down graded back to 2003SE problem still occurs.
it happens randomly but so far longest it has been without crashing is about 10 min.
its very frustrating can some one please tell me if its something they have heard of or come across.
are there any tools to diagnose memory or things like that for PDA's?

Locking up...
You got this second-hand... Any chance the previous owner over-clocked it? If the device has had heat-related damage to either the memory or the processor... it is cumulative, permanent and irreversible.
If the problem is a loose connector, assembly or component, then you may find that the connection separates as the unit warms up... then regains contact as the unit cools. This is common in PC's and anything else with interconnected components in a thermally dynamic environment (wide temperature changes).
If you have the means, open up your PDA, look at all ribbon connectors, micro-caps, etc. for obvious damage (discoloration, breaks, disconnects, etc.). If there is no obvious culprit, you may have an issue that requires professional attention... in which case, you'll have better luck buying another unit on eBay.

Hey thanks for the info. I have jsut sent the unit away for be evaluated for cost of repairs, are they really that expensive to fix?

If you have the unit repaired at a factory authorized shop and they charge the full hourly rate, then yes, it would be cheaper to purchase this on eBay.
However, if you get lucky and the problem is obvious and easy to repair (short bench time)... then the repair will be cheaper. Be sure to get an estimate before authorizing the work.
GSM units are $400US new-in-box and you can find them all day on eBay... Compare this to your repair estimate. If for whatever reason you opt to purchase another unit in lieu of the repair... be sure to keep the malfunctioning unit for parts. Or sell it on eBay to a geek like me...

Is this fraudelent or not?

Hi guys, I'm currently on my second one x as first was faulty.
This handset is also faulty and I have a replacement due on Tuesday. I booked the replacement within minutes of getting the handset as the same issues occurred (graphical corruption on most screens, like a garbled cartridge game lol. Also signal dropping not reconnecting)
Annoyingly, my gf handed the phone to me in town today, we fumbled and dropped the thing (headbutting each other in the process, not graceful lol) and now there are several minor scratches on the screen. Not immediately noticeable but you'd see em if you looked for em.
So, in a longwinded way my question is thus. Is it fraudulent to continue with the replacement? I'm hoping they'd right the phone off as a manufacturer fault anyways without much of a check, I'm only on day 9 of my conteact so replacements are easy at this point. Bit fearful they'd just charge for a repair though. Can't afford that,..
What say you fellow xda members, Is this wrong or fine considering the handset was unquestionably faulty on arrival?
Just send it back again, mine has that graphical corruption u r on about, but very rarely happens, it usually on the browser, I'm gonna wait for my SLOW o2 network provider to push the updates out before I decide to send back, just incase that fixes it

[Q] Removing the flash storage chip

Hi all,
the wife's HOX died suddenly, won't turn on at all, wont recoginse being plugged in into either the wall or the PC, no lights, nothing.
Unfortunately she has taken a number of pictures of our 5 month year old son on it, which obviously we would like to have back!
I'm competent with taking the phone apart and putting it back togther, however what I want to know is how the Samsung Flash chip is connected to the mainboard.
I can see black glue around the outside of it, but I am unsure if the underlying pins are also soldered down.
My intention was to razor blade the glue away and then buy a knackered (but working) HOX and transfer the chips over.
Obviously I wouldnt be able to do this if the chip is soldered down. I have monkey hands when it comes to soldering things.
Is anyone able to offer any insight?
I've had a google and read the datasheet for the specific chip, but it says nothing about how it is connected.

I really can't see this being successful, sorry. I'm fairly sure the chip is soldered down, and the chances of damaging the chip are very, very high if you want to try and get it off.
If the phone didn't come into contact with water a JTAG recovery might be possible. It may not get the phone working again but it could get your data back. Alternatively companies like DriveSavers have an excellent reputation for getting data off flash chips, but it'll cost you in the region of $400 - $1400 (I got a quote a month or so back, when I thought my HOX was finished.)
I really wouldn't recommend trying to remove the chip though. You could do irreparable damage to the chip, which would render it completely unreadable.

Try first change the battery to see if the phone will start again it is the cheap way and most secure
de4life - thanks, I've had a quote for data recovery from Kroll. They want £95+ to look at it and provide a list of what can be recovered and then between £195 and £395 for actually recovering it for me. Far too expensive!
As for JTAG, there's been no water damage whatsoever; I've had a quick Google and it says this is more for Routers. How could I do it to my phone? Im not fussed about getting the phone working again, just want the contents of the flash storage back.
Thant - alas, the was the first thing I tried. New battery has made no difference. Which is annoying as her old Desire Z showed the same symptoms, we bought a new battery and its works again. She's currently using that until we decide what to do.

First thing's first, if you do go down the data recovery route try to avoid companies that charge any type of analysis fee. Kroll are a well known company but I've not heard much good things about them. I went through an extensive search of companies when I thought I'd killed my HOX and found DriveSavers were the best in terms of reputation, and they don't charge a fee to look at the phone. They are very expensive though, perhaps more so than Kroll, and you have to send the phone to the States which is daunting and costly in of itself (I assume from your £ quotation that you're UK based?).
It's good that there's no water damage. It's difficult to say what can cause the motherboard to suddenly stop working like that, but it's unlikely there has been a serious short circuit that could have affected the memory chip. Have you tried dissembling the phone completely and putting it back together? It may sound ridiculous to even try it, but when one of my older phones suddenly died I managed to get it working by taking it apart and then just putting it back together again. There are a lot of connections within the HOX motherboard framework that could easily have come loose. You might already have done this, but just a thought.
In terms of JTAG, it can be done on mobile phone motherboards with the right equipment. It's usually used for soft bricked phones to reset the software back to its original form if it's been corrupted, but I have seen cases where hard bricked phones were brought back to life using this method, including the HOX. It's not really something you can do at home (not cheaply, anyway) but there are companies that provide this service. One of the more popular services is here: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/htc-one-x-jtag-brick-repair/ - I believe they post on here from time to time as well. Again, based in the States, but significantly cheaper than data recovery and as far as I've heard very professional. I don't know of any mobile phone JTAG services in the UK, though they probably do exist.
Keep in mind the data chip on your phone is likely fine. Even if the motherboard has stopped working, the memory chip itself is unlikely to be affected and will still contain all of your data - albeit in a scrambled form. If you send it out to companies then they can potentially damage the chip beyond repair, if you go down the route of sending the phone out to repair/data recovery companies I would urge extreme caution. If it's still on the chip the data itself isn't going anywhere. Take your time and make sure you're sending your phone to the right people, because one false move and your data is gone for good.

[Q] The thin vertical piece on the mainboard that leads to USB connection cracked

Hello to anyone reading this,
This crack in the board happened after it went through the clothes washer, and it was gf's phone so i feel really horrible about it :crying:.
Anyways i have yet to even find out what this piece of the board is named. It's cracked in two places on the vertical part of the board that leads down
to where the usb connector is located (everything else appears looks ok just these two cracked pieces). I'm just looking for any help at all, hoping
someone might be able to offer any help at all, or if it's even possible to salvage. I have an uncle that is got a good amount of experience in
soldering/electrical stuff and can handle the soldering/fixing since im still a bit of a noob, but he was unsure about how to go about it since it would
require some very small wires to fix the connection traces, so if anyone can offer any advice or instruction on mending i would greatly appreciate and
can send some BTC for your help. I attached 2 images, and can supply more if you need more detail.
So far the only thing i can think of is to get a broken board and remove the part i need at the easiest location it could be re-attached... no clue if that easier area exists though..
Why not just bring the phone to some phone repair shop (or a samsung specialized one), if available in your region. They should be able to repair it (if the price is ok with you), or be able to sell you the part you need (order it).
**It looks like even some chip is chopped... at the very least, probably too much water damage on them. You don't want to do this repair by yourself (or you uncle)... there are cases of phone components getting too hot and on fire if there are faulty wires/connectors.

LG G3- Warranty Void After Dropping Phone

Some advice please
So a while back my G3 suddenly wasn't able to find any coverage most places I went. Nothing else was wrong with it, it was just that there was no mobile coverage 80% of the time. The problem occurred one day as it was just in my pocket, nothing was wrong with it beforehand.
So, of course, I took it to the warranty service to get it repaired. Now, the phone's been dropped a bunch of times and it has some tiny scratches on the display and one on the back. It's definitely possible that the my problem occurred due to dropping it but, as I said, when it broke, it hadn't been dropped in some time.
In a few days, I get a phone call in which they tell me that the phone has been repetitively dropped, as can be seen by the scratches, and the motherboard and some module(don't know what exactly they were referring to) must be replaced. Now, obviously, the warranty doesn't cover mechanical damage so it's a paid service. The amount they asked for was around 430 dollars. Now, I'm obviously not going to pay a 430 dollars as I can just get a new phone for that money but I just came here to ask, if I take it to another service, would it be possible to be fixed and, theoretically, for what price?

Contacting LeEco after phone just died

Phone just quit charging the other day. No water damage or anything, it just died. Holding the power down trying to boot it after letting it charge for a while doesn't do anything. The phone is cold to the touch and I think it just went kaput.
No biggie, right? I have a warranty.
The problem is when I try to email or call them, I get nowhere. There is no response to any communication with LeEco. Does anyone have any ability to initiate a warranty claim and an RMA? I just need a replacement and am not looking for a refund or anything. I'm in the US.
Please help - I feel like I just lost $200 if I can't reach anyone over at LeEco.
Purchased the phone at Best Buy and in calling them they gave me a number that doesn't exist for support at LeEco.
Do I have any recourse with Best Buy?

I dont know if you guys live in a humid climate or not but for the hell of it , put it in bag of rice seal good and let it sit for 24 hours can't hurt. Maybe moisture got in there

Phones don't die just like that, in your case, it's either the battery, or a hard brick, or a defective screen. You should better change the battery and try to flash stock software afterwards if battery doesn't work, then you go for the screen, also the chargers that LeEco provides are crappy so it maybe went "out" and afterwards you went out of battery, try to charge with a different cable and charger. Well the phone is in with some rice and a silicone packet thing that absorbs moisture. It never got wet before it died, but figured what the heck, I have no other options.

@filippos96 - phone is fully stock and I've tried several different chargers. The phone doesn't get warm at all - like its not even receiving power. If I open it up to replace the battery that might not fix it if the issue is with a component before the battery.

It doesn't respond to ANYTHING? Like if you press the power button for 10+ seconds does it vibrate? Like it doesn't even show boot screen or smth? Need more info for a better diagnosis. Also, doesn't matter if the phone is fully stock, anything could have been a factor leading to hard brick, which is most likely your case.. It's like most certainly the battery or a hard brick, may be a bad screen, one of those 3 for sure though. I vote for hard brick and dead battery . Happened to me on my 1+1.. I had no hope that the phone was ever gonna be usable, though that the cost would be higher than the ceiling, it turns out that it was just 8$, a new battery.. I have much much experience with smartphones, used to run my own repair and sell shop. It's up to you if you wanna follow my advise for free, or visit a fellow repairman . No screen on at all. No charge light. Imagine a brick. This is similar.
Did you purchase your phone with a credit card? Most have extended warranty programs. I'd go that route and see if you can get your money back. They generally don't kick in until the manufacturer warranty expires but it looks like the manufacturer is out to lunch. Doesn't hurt to try.

Legally, Best Buy should honor the warranty and most suppliers would.
For example, Just a month ago, I have returned one of my LeEco phones (5 months old) that was damaged by a faulty cable. and I received a brand phone under warranty.
Unfortunately, Best Buy is notorious for not honoring factory warranties or even their own Geek Squad extended warranties.

You bought a phone with a published warranty from a company that is still in business. Most likely Best Buy received extra margin to service the warranty themselves.

Since you cannot reach the manufacturer , you should keep contacting Best Buy, stay on the line and do not take no for an answer, keep asking for the next person up and record the phone call ( they are recording you) if you keep pressing they may give in. Important, remain polite and professional. If you are rude, they will do nothing for you.

Alternatively, get another cable and try unbricking your phone by following the unbrick guide. ( its works but only if you have a x727 or a x720) Its also possible that you have a hardware issue like I did. Worst case you can buy parts for these phones on Ebay and Alibaba

Which charger were you using?
Hi, I purchased 2 LeEco Le Pro 3 phones, and both have broken down completely manufacturer's fault. One, the battery inside the phone started to expand and push out the front screen glass out of its edges. The other one, which I purchased as a backup, the screen auto rotate does not work. I think the sensor is broken.
Now, I have no way to contact the manufacturer for the warranty repairs, none of the contact info are working. I purchased the phones directly from the manufacturer LeEco Mall (just as OnePlus sells directly to the consumer), so I can't even try to return it to the distributor or the seller.
PS: how long is the warranty period on these phones?
PPS: is there a reason that many distributors are still selling the Le S3, and other models except for the Le Eco Le Pro 3? I can't even buy the Le Pro 3 any more. Anyone else having the same problems mentioned above?
Guys give up, we are ALOT of LeEco Le Pro 3 users who got this problem. Everything started from nothing

we have exactly the same, try to search our thread on it. One user fixed his phone by "re-powering" his battery. I bought another battery and nothing happend for my phone sadly.

Unfortunately, all of these recent issues are likely due to manufacturing. If you take a look you will find that quite a few people who never used a custom rom are also having these issues on stock. Probably alot of the issues are the battery. Ideally the battery should not go over 100F / 38C
For these cases a battery will likely resolve the issue, of course there is also the issue with burned ports.
Custom Roms
But many of the Roms made within the last couple of months are based on Pie and there are too many unknown factors, such as permissions being reset for unknown reasons, edited thermal settings reverting to default etc.
Recently we have seen chip damage. But the cause of chip damage has been found and resolved.
If you are reading this post and your phone is fine. Take every precaution to ensure that your battery stays cool and if on Pie make sure that you have the very latest thermal patch installed.
