Blueangel Siemens SX66 discussion - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I notices there is not a post that discuss issue specificly for the Siemen SX66.

That's because the only real difference between the SX66 and any other BA is the lack of camera and the Cingular software.
For customized SX66 ROMs, go to the SX66 Standardization Project.

I know that is the difference, but are the upgrades in this site be use for the SX66.

Many of them can -- in fact, the SX66 standardization project started with files from this site.

I notice that most of the Blue Angel is PH20B, and the SX66 is PH20B1. Many of the Rom and Ext. rom are for PH20B. I want to know if it is still able to be install for the SX66. I am new with this so if some questions I as seem dump. please forgive me.

You should be able to install the other extroms -- the only hardware difference between the SX66 and other Blue Angels is the SX66's lack of a camera.
However, the extrom files may need a bit of tweaking to install on the SX66; for example, removing the camera applications. That's basically what the SX66 standardization project does for you.
I've never done this myself, but if you look through the Blue Angel forums for threads related to "baking" or "cooking" extended rom, you could probably figure it out. I'd rather not go to that much trouble, so I just go to the SX66 standardization project.

Imate PDA2K Vs, IPAQ HX4700 + SPV C500 Phone

I have a new PDA2K from imate (also known as the XDAIIs MDA III, QTEK 9090 amongst others). On a recent trip to Toronto I could not resist picking up an HX4700 on my credit card.
I've been using both now for about 2 weeks, but I need to make a decision. My wife says one has to go on eBay. I agree I can't keep 2 devices on the go.
I'm looking for some thoughts from you Blue Angel users to help me make my decision.
a) HX4700 + Orange SPV C500
For: The gorgeous screen, wifi, bluetooth
Against: No phone functionality built in
b) Imate PDA2K
For: Phone functionality
Against: poorer screen, phone and bluetooth issues
I really like the idea of 1 device solution, but the beauty of both the HX4700 and the C500 phone are sawying me.
The Bluetooth issues are not a big factor in my decision as a ROM update shoul address them.
Any help would be appreciated
Regards,
Mike
The C500 is a Smartphone, why use a Smartphone with the 4700?

Questions from a TOTAL beginner

Folks,
Sorry if this is real basic stuff, but hey we all gotta start somewhere!!
Work is buying me a O2 Orbit for some development (actually buying 2) and I have just a handful of questions that I'd really appreciate an answer.
1) Is The Artemis 3300 the same name for the 02 Orbit? I'm 99.9% it is, but some big-headed person I work with is causing all sorts of grief saying the phone must be a genuine Artemis 3300 and the Orbit is a cut down version. True or false?
2) Is the GPS on it Magellan / Garmin compliant?
3) OK, touchy one this, I'm hearing great reports about Crossbow and want to know if 'flashing' the WM5 ROM that comes with the O2 Orbit is legal or not (don't worry, I'm not clean cut, just don't want to cause any problems with the boss!). And likewise, if I mess up the installation, is it easy to revert back to WM5?
In a nutshell, we've a dozon or so bespoke programs for SmartPhones, all developed on a SPV M3000. These SPV's are getting old now, cracked, chipped, damaged and the O2 Orbit looks perfect (especially as we're just doing GPS stuff, hence why I ask if it's Magellan / Garmin compliant).
Whilst WM5 is still widespread, naturally it would be an advantage to use the latest technology and to ensure compatibility (have one Orbit running WM5 and the other running WM6), but obviously need some roll-back if things go wrong.
Would really appreciate some feedback before I make a purchase.
Cheers.

No, the orbit is not a cut down version

Its a std Pocket PC serial emulated GPS feed. All pocket PC software that works with WM5 would work.
3) OK, touchy one this, I'm hearing great reports about Crossbow and want to know if 'flashing' the WM5 ROM that comes with the O2 Orbit is legal or not (don't worry, I'm not clean cut, just don't want to cause any problems with the boss!). O2 has not released an updated ROM for the Orbit, let alone an update to WM6 (crossbow). It is very unusual for providers to provide an update to a major version of Windows on a current model, so would assume this won't happen. Flashing an WM device with an unlicensed OS is technicaly not legal. In terms of reverting back, it is easy unless you have screwed the boot rom, in which case you have a new brick

There are two types of Pocket PC with phone functionality. Those that use the OMAP chipset, and those that use the Samsung/Intel chipset. The OMAP ones normally have more reliable phone sides (although this is changing with the latest Samsungs and Intels) but far slower for running applications (although, again, this is changing with the latest OMAP chipsets). The Orbit is an OMAP chipset, and although works well as a phone and GPS device, you should check whether any custom software runs at satisfactory speed.
Whilst WM5 is still widespread, naturally it would be an advantage to use the latest technology and to ensure compatibility (have one Orbit running WM5 and the other running WM6), but obviously need some roll-back if things go wrong.

Open Letter We are Interested in Sponsoring a ROM Chef

Through my recent purchase and aggrevations with the O2/MWG/ XDA Flame (love, hate, need wm6)relationship, it is unlikely the new owners will step up to the plate and release Wm6 or similar fixes to their new to some markets phone.
Calls to O2 appear now to be fruitless, with polite, nothing we can do support responses.
The issues are mainly 2 fold SHDC limitation on some 2GB, cards, and of course everything above 2GB
Issues with BT Radio cut-outs. etc.
These are the same EXACT issues hermes owners had pre-wm6 ROM.
So in my course of whinging, blogs and more whinging, I have a pretty good list of O2 Flamers all interested in sponsoring a ROM fix.
Up to the challange, let me know
digg(dot)this(at)gmail(dot)com
Interested in paying towards such a ROM email me there as well.
chefs see where things are up to

2020i upgrade

Hi
I am totaly new in this line of hardware, i just received an qtek 2020i to try if i like pda.
but this thing is running on win ce2003
can i upgrade this PDA to wm 5 or wm6, and if it's possible how dies it work?
and what do i need?
Hi,
Congratulations for Qtek 2020i. It is one of the best PDAs available, hardware-wise.
However, I am afraid that there is no upgrade to WM 5 or 6 available...
Some say that there never will be...
Head off for the Alpine forum, for more details.

P.

what is the alpine forum?
and why is it so good while it cant be used voor wm5 or 6, it's a rather old PDA I geuss and i have to soft reset quit often.
i read in some forums it should be possible to upgrade using w, 5 from another system like an htc.
and another question what kind of software could be used on it?
cause after every reset i've to insert my appointments again
Here, at xda-developers, we have several generic sub-forums (like Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking, where we are currently posting) and other sub-forums, model specific, where the model is discussed in detail.
Alpine is the internal HTC codename of the Qtek 2020i. And, yes, here we have model specific sub-forums for the Alpine/Qtek 2020i. Here is the link to them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=249
Qtek 2020i, despite the 2003SE that it was shipped with, has very good hardware details (fast 520Mhz CPU, 128 RAM, Wi-Fi, large screen...) that might make it a good solution for someone who is not dependent on the latest operating systems... Even today, is is still competitive, which is rather interesting.
Also, keep in mind that many great software still run in 2003(SE). For instance, Resco Explorer, Tomtom6, SK tools, most of SPB software... etc.
The Alpine could never be upgraded to WM5 because no WM5 OS drivers for the CPU and other details were ever released or found... There are several threads in the Alpine sub forums about this.
If you have issues with yours, like spontaneous (soft) resets there are several possible causes, like depleted (back-up) battery, conflicting software, etc. Use a good back-up software, like SPB backup, and read a lot in the Alpine forums.

P.

Is there someone working on Imate 8502

Hello' guys
I am pretty satisfied with my 8502 with Wm6.1, Spb home and other appl, but there are still some minor issue that I overvome on my old Kaiser with Wm6.5 or even with a 6.1 cooked rom.
I see lots of people working, cooking, flashing different type of mobile, but no one on this 8502.
Nevertheless it is not a bad phone: Touch, querty, Gps, Wifi, Microsd... what else?
Since Imate closed, I think that lot of people have bought this phone due to the extremely low price, so many people could be interested in upgrading and developing a specific rom.... isn't it?
thanks

i-mate 8502: Anybody sells display or phone? /alguién vende pantalla o teléfono?
Good afternoon, folks
I was relatively happy with my i-mate ultimate 8502 till I dropped it and the display broke.
As I'm against buying new stuff if you can at a reasonable price fix something, I'm asking:
is anybody willing to sell almost altrusistically a display or even the whole phone? We could do it through the normal channels (paypal, google, ebay, whatever). Or in person, I'me based in Spain.
Warm regards,
Manuel
