XDA ll Frequency - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I saw a post here asking if there is anyway to modify aone of these phones to work with the 850 band. There was no reply and I also have the same question. Also, will this phone work in the US on ATT (1900,850) even though I live in an area that is primarily 850. Thanks and this forum is pretty good, especially since the ATT tech support is not too swift!

it'll work on 900/1800/1900 as far as i know

CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THAT THEY HAVE A DIAMOND WORKING ON THE 850 3G BAND FOR ATT?
I have been told that the "DIAM130" diamond will work for the 850 3g att band but I am yet to have anyone confirm this! I really wanna get a diamond but 3g is a must for me, so please let us know ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.
Geez, double posted. When there are already several threads addressing this.

Is this guy serious? Can we just like, vote to ban him now? 2 posts in the Diamond section asking the exact same question, so here's the answer you get.
Yes, I HAVE MY DIAMOND RUNNING ON 3G ON BOTH AT&T FREQUENCIES, 850 AND 1900. It runs perfect with no issues whatsoever. So Lewi, all you have to do is buy any tri-band or quad-band Diamond and not modify it one bit, it'll work flawlessly in the United States. Go get it buddy, it's yours for the taking!
(note: for any user besides lewi, this will not work. don't waste your money.)

Frequency Change?

Hello,
It has been a long time since I even dared to visit this forum. Last time I asked a question here I was met with so much ignorance and stupidity I swore I would never come back or recommend this site. But Xda has a lot of excellent info, and I refuse to believe all members are nasty. Hopefully I get a much kinder response!!!
My question is: can a phones 3G frequency be changed internally or via software? I plan to buy a Rhodium which has European 3G freq (2100Mhz). I wanted to get it thru T-Mobile but they are going to change the color and shape of the phone and I would rather get the original from either "On the go solutions" or I am open for suggestions. Is it possible to change it's freq so it will be US 3G for T-Mobile?? Please be gentle with me. I am not sure what I can ask here, without being chewed up!!
I have the same question. Does anyone know the answer?

The answer to your question is no. 3G radios are hardware dependent, not software. The only Rhodium that can access T-Mobile's 3G network is the T-Mobile branded one (Rhod210). There is no other Touch Pro2 that operates on the AWS band that they use. EDGE and GPRS will work fine, however.
T-Mobile US operates on the AWS 1700/2100 MHz frequency band. European 3G operates on the IMT 2100 MHz frequency. I know what you're thinking: "You just said T-Mobile uses the 2100 MHz frequency; why won't the European TP2 work?" The answer is not that complicated. 3G operates on two different frequencies. There is one for uploads and one for downloads. T-Mobile's US market uses the 1710 - 1755 MHz spectrum for uploads and the 2110 - 2155 MHz spectrum for downloads. The European market is said to use the the 2100 MHz band, but this is only partly true. It uses two different frequency ranges and just markets it under one band number. It's uploads are in the 1920 - 1980 MHz range, while downloads are in the 2110 - 2170 MHz range.
Hopefully this explains everything for you. I liked the look of the European one too, before I got mine. It's grown on me. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I would like to have a PTT button, and a front facing camera, but video calls don't work in the US on this device anyway, and I have no real need for a PTT button. On the other hand, T-Mobile owners have a big advantage when it comes to flashing. Our reset button is on the outside of the device. Other devices have to remove the battery cover to get to it.

tmobile tp2 - does 3G work in Europe?

i see specs: 1700/2100, and it is 2100 band in europe
can anyone prove 3g works well in europe?

From what I understand the 2100 frequency band in Europe is different than the one in the US. Typically 3G needs both freqs (1700 & 2100) to work properly.
So I don't think you'll get 3G in Europe from a TMo US TP2. Just my take.
Cyph
I second that, in TMO US3G u need 1700/2100 to work.
I actually heard that it did work just fine over there, with an international phone (such as the TP2), but just keep in mind, I've heard stories of people leaving on their data connection and coming back to the US with a bill at about $2,000.
So are we all just going to assume that the original poster is referring to TMobile US ?
I mean, his location is not US and TMobile is a German company that has interests all over the world.
This board may have the rule that you should post in English but there is a world (most of it in fact) outside the USA you know.
Or do you, it's questionable

He's quoting specs for T-MoUSA 3G bands 1700/2100 -- only T-Mo USA runs 3G on that pair of bands. What else can we assume other than T-Mo USA???
Obviously that assumtion has absolutely nothing to do with the language he's post in since everyone from China to Chile post in English here.
Assume you knew that...or do you?
I'm not criticizing the language posts are made in. Of course English is the world language (although Spanish is the language spoken by the largest number of countries).
I am criticizing the fact that it only seems to be posters from the US who will fail to mention which country their mobile network is from. Especially TMobile users since that company has interests in a number of countries under the same name. And then the people who reply all assume that they're talking about the US.
I mean, someone from Germany would have mentioned that they're on TMobile Germany, for instance
Seems a rather inwards looking attitude when this is an international board. A quick look on the Google machine will show that US mobile networks don't make up a very large percentage of the total world usage
yeah, guys, im speaking about tmous tp2
since 3g in kazakhstan is planning to start working by 2nd Q 2010, im asking about the ability of its usage on my device.
and yes, ive heard about 2100 band is only for download, and 1700 is necessary anyway. so, im asking to ensure its true. and it will be very pity if it is.

anyone here from europe using TMOUS TP2?
I am in Turkey and 3G works fine for me on my T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 maybe this information will work for u

No, you're wrong -- most posters don't explicitly mention in their post where they're located (including you). Many people already have it included in the info in the upper right of the post -- including me. And yet you say that that USA posters don't indicate where they're located. Is there a piece of dirt or food on your monitor covering the spot where my location says "Bend, Oregon" and the USA flag is showing???
Seems like it would be best if personal-political attitudes could be kept out of this nice forum. You know...there are forums about politics where you might be able to contribute.
Yes, 3G works in Germany and EU

To answer your question, YES, 3G works here in Germany. When I got my TMoUS TP2 shipped to me in September, I put my DE T-Mobile SIM in it, and it worked out-of-the-box, no SIM unlock needed. I live near Mainz and travel to Frankfurt, and get 3G connections all the time.
Hopefully this helps answer your question.
Cheers!
Lando
thank you guys, that was what i wanted to hear
germany and turkey are using euro 3g bands, so it will work in kazakhstan as well

I have no idea how you have managed to drag politics into this. I have said what I think is a problem and how it might be improved. I have not given my details here because they're not important here. I get a local network sim whenever I land and so my questions aren't necessarily all based around a single country or network.
Are people from Bend referred as "Benders"? lol

Saying that personal-political attitudes should be kept out of these forums is a personal-political attitude.

[Q] i747 W-CDMA Band 1 (2100MHz) or Band 6 (800MHz)

Hey Everyone,
I'm flying to Japan for a couple weeks soon and was thinking of picking up a B-mobile Data Sim for my GSIII i747 (Sim unlocked of course). B Mobile states that the phone must support W-CDMA Band 1 (2100MHz) or Band 6 (800MHz) to function.
I didn't see any mention of CDMA on GSMArena's page on the i747 (http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii_i747-4803.php), but then I stumbled across this thread that mentioned it should work but there seemed to be some uncertainty, and the reference PDF mention is a broken link now (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1872038)
I've been searching through the forums trying to find an answer to my question, but I'm getting a little blown away by the radio discussion and I'm not quite sure what the answer is. So if anyone could let me know if my i747 will work with the W-CDMA Band 1 (2100MHz) or Band 6 (800MHz) in Japan, I'd really appreciate it. It'd be nice to have google maps handy in a pinch!
Any help is much appreciated.

Perfect! Thanks much. I noticed the MHz listed matched up, but assumed there was more to it than that so I thought I'd ask in the forum
Galaxy S GSM phones are all quad band. So you shouldn't have any issues roaming around the world.

[Q] T-Mobile Refarm PCS/AWS HSPA+ Questions

So I spent all night going through threads looking for more information on this (probably had 20 tabs open ), and just want to make sure I understand everything correctly.
As I understand, they are moving the DC-HSPA+42 from AWS (1700/2100) to HSPA+21 (1900), but because there is no room for dual channel PCS can only support HSPA+21.
Moving HSPA+42 from AWS to PCS will free up the 1700/2100 spectrum for LTE support, which ultimately they will phase out support for HSPA+ on AWS and only have HSPA+ on PCS (or minimal HSPA+42 on AWS).
So how does this affect me and you who only have a T-Mobile S3 that some of us were told *WOULD* support LTE, but it's obvious now it won't .... well sounds to me like we are getting the short end of the stick. I've already noticed since LTE popped up in my area that my speeds have gone from 15-25Mbps to 5-15Mbps if that.
Can anybody please confirm what I said above is correct and I am understanding all of this correctly?
Does anybody know of any apps that you can use to see what frequency the phone is using to be able to tell if you're on PCS or AWS? Or maybe an app that shows which version of HSPA+? I tried a couple on the app store but most of those only would tell me UMTS(WCDMA)....
I was very happy with the phone when I first got it but now I almost feel shafted by T-Mobile who didn't add LTE support for the ORIGINAL G3 they released...which you can no longer purchase from them. Same specs and all, just with LTE support ... I mean come on wtf t-mobile.
You sound pretty close on most of it. I'll try to offer a better answer when I'm back on my computer where I can reference a few things a lot easier.
