I apologize if this is a dumb question. I thought I read some where that with root access there's a way to have USB debugging enabled, without the ugly icon in the notification bar. I've googled and searched the forums and I can't find it.
Is this possible?

It is a security risk to leave it on. Thats why the icon is there to make sure you disable the debugging.
Remember when usb debugging is on you can easily send ADB commands to your phone.
Thank you. I guess I'll just have to switch it on when I need to do adb and back off again. I really didn't want it in my screen captures that I do with ddms.
use the app shootme for screen captures... works great just have to shake or yell at the phone

Cool. Thank you.
PS.
Cyanogenmod rom has a option to turn off the icon.
you could always modify your framework and delete the icon altogether.

Is there any program that will either remove and or change when you receive a phone call?

What does this mean? Seriously.
If you need help, you're going to have to write in such a way that others may understand you.

Whats hard to understand, he's looking for an app to change the trackball color when you recieve a call or text. Which I dont think is out yet since theres no full root
What the OP is missing in the post is the word notification.
The top battery led indicator (see page 16 of the G2 user manual "Notification LED") doesn't flash as notification of missed calls, e-mail, etc and a fix should be available soon. I contacted HTC and that's what they told me.
Trackpad notification indicator

One more thing, HTC refers to it as a Trackpad, not "Digital track ball".
See post #31.

Cyanogen has written a file than enables notification. It works for me, but would need to be reinstalled at each reboot.
Try the app noLED. Not perfect, but a decent alternative work-around.

I'd be careful with this...this was made for the amoled screens and it worked well because it only needed to light that small portion of the screen. lcd's are backlit. This has the potential to kill your battery crazy fast.

I love this work-around. I only use it for texts tho, but have yet to see any battery drain.
perhaps i'll leave it on for a while and see if theres any big hits.
This free app lets you turn the screen off by waving at the proximity sensor near your earpiece! No Widgets to press! Just the swipe of your hand!
Marketplace Search: ProximityScreenOff
A lil thanks if you like it will be appreciated ;D
The idea is nice but beeing left handed it triggers accidentally too much for me. Works pretty sweet though. Wish the prox sensor was on the right
Be cautious... Just tried playing with this on CM7 #B30, and almost couldn't get it off my phone. Also, didn't appear to work properly (I'm guessing its a Gingerbread issue). Not sure if these results are typical, but I had to reboot 3 times, uninstall through both the market, and app manager, and without being able to do nandroid yet, I was a little nervous.
Idea sounds great though. It'd be a fun trick to show friends, that's why I gave it a shot.
I am LOVING this!
This is the type of app that makes me go week at the knees! <3

You don't follow directions. And it worked fine on my gingerbread build. To delete it fully, you first need to to in to settings, locations&security, then select device admin. Untidiness the checkmark, and select deactivate. Then delete.
Personally this was a bit too sensitive for me, but very cool concept.

You're right, I didn't follow those directions because I never saw them. Regardless, it still didn't work for me, and I wanted to let others know of a possible implication. I even mentioned that I was unsure if the result would be typical.

If you'd read the information on the app market, before just downloading, you'd have seen.
Pretty cool but sometimes I use my left hand and lock it by mistake. And it doesn't disable when I'm in landscape mode for some reason. I had the check box for that feature checked. Is it supposed to be unchecked?

But yeah, I don't know how it'll affect my battery life, and half the time I couldn't get the screen to turn off I wish the sensitivity was adjustable. Uninstalled for now.

Why do you need that ? Just press and hold the power button for a few second, the Phone options will pop-up, just choose restart to restart the device.

You could Quick Boot if you wish. Can also reboot straight to recovery and bootloader. Unfortunately I can't link to it as I've only recently joined XDA.

I dun reboot that much..Just once a day..but I dun want my power button to get depressed because I have to rely on unlocking on the same button..which gets pressed quite a lot of times...
Also if you could suggest me some widgets or apps that can help me to lock my phone..I used extended controls which was not a great experience because when I unlocked the screen remained black till I switched on to some other application ..

I don't think it will harm the proximity sensor, it just that I don't like to see a red light on the proximity sensor light up when using this app as I guess it use more battery...and that's maybe the reason why they have a time-out to kill the app after certain time. Once the app is killed, you still need to press power on. Anyhow, this is my personal opinion only, nothing against the app; I maybe wrong.

Since Apr 3rd, two days after the HOX officially launched in my country. Do not really notice that, maybe because I seldom use the power button as my device is rooted, using quick boot for reboot, reboot to bootloader & recovery, swipe to power on and so on.
Why are you even rebooting once a day? It isn't necessary and will solve all of your problems.

I hope someone can help me out with this (I guess most of my posts arent worth bothering with as they usually go untouched by anyone). I'm trying to figure out a way to disable the touch button backlight on a Google Edition ROM. I have been searching for an answer since the Google Edition hit. All I can ever find is how to disable on GSIII ROMs (non ge). If anyone can please help me out I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!

Screen Filter is an app that can disable the backlight of the softkeys. Set it to auto-start at boot and you should be good. I know its not a direct fix but its a low impact app that shouldnt effect battery life or operation.

Seems to work for me. Did it dim the screen at all (thats its main function)? Did you see the check box "enable softkey back light" (uncheck it) at the bottom of the app ui?

Yes, it did dim the screen, but if i uncheck the enable softkey back light, anytime I touch the screen the backlights still come on. Are you on a G.E. rom? I am currently on Infamouse G.E.

There are options to do this in AOKP and CM roms. Anybody know how those builds pull it off?
